  • Connect the powerbook 15"-Display with a new G5 dual and a ACD?

    hi
i wonder if i could connect the pb 15" display with a new G5 dual and turn the pb off, only the display on?
    that would be fun.
i am working with a pb 15" and a ACD 20" with Photoshop mainly.
the 15" is the palettes‘ server and the ACD is the main working screen where i retouch my pics.
so if i buy a G5 dual now, i would have to buy a ACD30" for example to use one display for all the Photoshop Palettes and couldn use the pb 15" anymore?
any other less awkward solutions i am not aware of maybe?
    thanks"

I'm pretty sure that you can't use a PowerBook for it's display only. You already know, of course, that you can use the PowerBook, as a computer, with an external monitor, with or without the PB's own display running, but so far as I know you cannot use a PB solely for its display.
So, if you bought a G5 dual now, and bought an ACD 30", you could use both your ACD's with your new G5 dual, the 20" and the 30" , but your PowerBook would have to watch the proceedings from the sidelines.

  • New MBP and 23" ACD problem

Here's my situation: when I'm at home I use my MBP with an 23" ACD (alu) and keep the MBP screen closed. I used this combo for over 6 months with a 15" MBP 2ghz core duo with absolutely no problems, including taking the MBP with me and using it by itself. I've now replaced my original MBP with the new 15" core2 duo 2.33 glossy. When I boot up in the morning I get 23" ACD flashing to a solid blue and then back to the regular screen about every 4 seconds until the system hangs. After rebooting a couple of times the problem seems to go away.
I notice there appears to be no screen closed detector on this model like there was on the old MBP. Is this a known bug? Anyone know of a setting etc that I might have to tweak. The new MBP works flawlessly on it's own.

If you want the MBP internal LCD to shut off while using the external display, just utilize clamshell mode. Plug in an external mouse, keyboard and LCD. Close the lid and put the machine to sleep. Wake the machine by either clicking the mouse or pressing a key on keyboard. This will wake your machine and make the external display your main monitor. You can now open the lid of the MBP to allow the heat to escape.
Also, right now I leave the lid open while the two
are connected. I'd like to leave the lid open while
running the machine to allow for heat venting comming
off of the keyboard. But even with the brightness
turned all the way down on the background image, the
image is still faintly displayed. Do you know how I
might bring it to a full off mode?

  • CME 3.3 and ITSP

I have CME 3.3 in cisco 2651 and I have 3 ethernet interfaces.
I can telephone between the internal devices without problems.
If I want to telephone to the PSTN and I don't have PSTN cards installed in the chassis, Is there any possibility to route the calls to a ITSP and going to the PSTN?
If yes, Which requirements I need? Is it possible to assign DDI numbers of foreign countries?

It depends on what kind of protocol the VOIP service provider uses. You may use dial-peers (voip) on the router and send the call as a H323 or SIP call. you can set up either dial-peers and point to a telco's gateway ip address. If they will route your international calls you definitely can set up patterns to route calls to foreign countries.

  • New MBP and 24" ACD

I found this post on another forum and was interested to know if anyone on here has similar issues, I am thinking of buying this combo
"I previously owned the "first generation" of unibody MacBook Pro when it was released back in 2008. I purchased 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display with it. The two worked fine together and have enjoyed the combination.
With i5 processor upgrade, I thought it was worth the investment to upgrade to the new MacBook Pro. Now there seems to be some issues that users should be concerned or at least be aware about, especially if you were to attached an external monitor.
The integrated GPU on the new MacBook Pro is Intel HD Graphics, which is suppose to run under low profile situations or when running under battery to maximize the battery usage. As the information gathered on the internet, Apple adopted an automatic switching between the two GPUs, Intel HD and NVIDIA 330M it ships with, without logging on and off and interrupting your workflow or you even knowing about it.
Switching of the GPUs without logging off is great, but since it's automatic, there's no way of running it strictly on integrated GPU. You can choose to run it strictly on discrete GPU, but not the other way around.
The new integrated GPU is not powerful enough, or it just chooses not to, to run attached display. When the LED Cinema Display or any other external display is connected, even under a low power consumption situation, it will run under discrete GPU full time. Doesn't matter if all I'm doing is just some web browsing with Safari or running the Mail or iCal, it will run under the new discrete GPU. This generates the new MacBook Pro to have excessive heat, cooling fan inside to run faster, creating a loud fan noise. This happens when I'm doing just basic work.
I do use Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Photoshop once in awhile, but not everyday. Discrete GPU worked great, I just changed the setting in the preference and reboot or re-logged to run more powerful applications. (This with my old MacBook Pro)
Now, even if I wanted to run under integrated GPU with the LED Cinema Display attached, I can't do that. It might not be an issue to many, since discrete GPU is suppose to perform better. And it does. When rendering some videos or running powerful applications, i5 processor is much faster than the old Core 2 Duo. And since you'll be attached to the power adapter, it has nothing to do with your battery usage. I liked the integrated GPU I had with the previous generation that I owned, since it was quiet and didn't create much heat. Everyday work with the integrated GPU was more than enough.
I created a case with Genius Bar expert/agent, and have an option to return it or exchange for a different machine. I'm debating now since I like the new i5 processor (again, it does perform better than Core 2 Duo), but don't like the GPUs.
Maybe an iMac + lower-end MacBook Pro/Air combination might be an option for me.
    Just my two cents."

Quote: "The new integrated GPU is not powerful enough, or it just chooses not to, to run attached display. When the LED Cinema Display or any other external display is connected, even under a low power consumption situation, it will run under discrete GPU full time."
Is this an inherent limitation of the IGP itself, or has Apple disabled it such that it can't be used to drive an external display?

  • MBP and 23" ACD Issues

If I start Bootcamp with my MBP screen shut I get all sorts of black screens before Windows Xp sp3 starts completely.
    Sometimes it never comes up.
Also with screen shut Xp will not shut down but hangs on the Windows is shutting down screen.
With the MBP screen open everything runs ok.
I have run chkdsk and all is well.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks ... Ken

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I did not see an option to override the standby option in Xp. But I am NOT an Xp person.
If I am using the MBP with the lid closed and boot into Xp and never open the lid I still get all kinds of black screens before Xp starts. I need to keep moving the mouse to get it to continue.
Then it always hangs on shutdown from Xp.
Perhaps it is sensing the lid being closed and going into standby.
I will look into an option in Xp to disable the lid closed standby option.
Has anyone used an external monitor with Xp on a MBP?
    Thanks ... Ken

  • MBP and 30" ACD

I have a new 15" MBP that I use with a 30" Apple Cinema Display. Every few days, while I'm working, the monitor goes black. If I unplug EITHER of the two inputs from the MBP - the display plug or the USB plug - the display comes right back on and works fine for another few days.
Any idea what's up with that?

The MacBook Pro doesn't use Mini DVI, but Mini DisplayPort. To run a 30" at full resolution, you need the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter

  • 20" iMac and 20" ACD

(I asked this question in the iMac display section, but no one is replying me. Can anyone answer me here? Thanks!)
I'm planning to connect my 20" iMac to a 20" Cinema Display
Will my system slow down because of the extra display (and double the pixels) it needs to drive?

Since OS X does most of the display with GPU, in theory yes it will slow down to drive twice the resolution. In practice I doubt you will notice any slow down except when you are using graphic-intensive apps (e.g. playing HD video on two monitors), or playing games on two displays.

  • Powerbook G4 and 23inch ACD

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me if i ran my powerbook 15 inch G4 in sleep mode and hooked it up to a 23 inch display, what kind of resolutions can I get on the monitor?
    Thanks

You can get the full resolution of the 23", which is WUXGA, which is 1920 x 1200. You get this regardless of whether you run with the lid closed or with the lid open in screen spanning mode..

  • CME to SRST and Licensing

    Hi All,
I have a customer that we've quoted CME (CallManager Express). However, they may migrate to a centralized CallManager architecture at a later date.
Is there an added cost to move to SRST at a later date from CME?
    thanks,
    Paul

They are covered. They dont need to purchase an SRST license.

  • SRST/CME max-dn and dual-line confirmation

    Hi,
Can I please confirm the following:
If my router supports max-dn of 960 and all of my handsets are registered as dual-line does this actually mean my max-dn is only really 480 as there would be a 'virtual port' to allow the extra channel for phone lines?
If this is the case can I force VG224 SCCP configured endpoints to register as single line only.
    Thanks
    Heath

if we maxed out the the ephones and DNs according to what the platform allows, could it greatly impact the performance of the router upon provisioning?

  • Lab setup- 2911/CME, aironet AP, and 7926

I need to setup a lab for testing / demo 2 7926 phones to call each other.
Do you have a simple sample CME config to accomplish this (ie, ephone command, realtive show commands to prove it connected or not)?
Can I plug my AP directly into the ethernet port on the 2911? If not will any switch do?
Also, there will be a VMXL server added later, where does this get connected physically?
Let me know on this sample config what else I would need to setup the phones. Thanks so much.

You have to plug your AP to PoE switch port configured as trunk port (assuming multiple vlan trunk to wireless network) if you are using it standalone mode (without WLC). If your switch is not POE then you need power injector to power the AP.
Then you have to configure necessary SSIDs to phones to join via wirelessly & register to your CME. In DHCP scope for the phones you need to provide option 150 which is CME IP address.
Do not know about VMXL server connetion.

  • ACD and AA error in CME 4.0

    Hi,
Im implementing ACD feature with app-b-acd-aa-2.1.0.0.tcl and app-b-acd-2.1.0.0.tcl scripts. When I run it on a 12.4-6T IOS (CME 3.4) it works perfect. I recently upgraded to 12.4 XC IOS (CME 4.0) and the service stop working. The symptom is this:
When I press an option that points to a aa-hunt , the call is inmediately disconnected from the caller point of view but the call stays internally in a queue until timeout expires. That represent a major problem besides the obvius , and is that the fxo on the router stays seized and after a few minutes of customers calls , all fxo gets seized.
Does anyone can help me on how to correct the script
    thanks
    I have several debugs attached

  • CME and user services

Can someone please tell me if CME allows users to configure their own speed dials and services using a url like on the CCM? If possible, can you please let me know what I would have to configure to allow this functionality? Thank you.

    Hi Rose,
    My understanding is that the "Personal" Speed dials can only be changed via the User's IP Phone except for User's who are running Extension Mobility (who can use the GUI interface). There is some excellent info in the last doc attached below;
To use a phone user account in the Cisco Unified CME GUI to configure speed dials on a phone that is enabled for Extension Mobility, Cisco Unified CME GUI 4.2.1 or a later version must be installed on the Cisco router.
    Cisco Unified CME GUI Support
The Cisco Unified CME GUI provides a web-based interface to manage most system-level and phone-based features. In particular, the GUI facilitates the routine additions and changes associated with employee turnover, allowing these changes to be performed by nontechnical staff. The GUI provides three levels of access to support the following user classes:
•System administrator-Able to configure all system-level and phone-based features. This person is familiar with Cisco IOS software and VoIP network configuration.
•Customer administrator-Able to perform routine phone additions and changes without having access to system-level features. This person does not have to be familiar with Cisco IOS software.
•Phone user-Able to program a small set of features on his or her own phone and search the Cisco Unified CME directory. In Cisco Unified CME GUI 4.2.1 and later versions, phone users can use the GUI to set up personal speed dials for an Extension Mobility phone. The same credential for logging into an Extension Mobility phone can be used to log into the Cisco Unified CME GUI.
The user name parameter of any authentication credential must be unique. Do not use the same value for a user name when you configure any two or more authentication credentials in Cisco Unified CME, such as the username for any Cisco United CME GUI account and the user name in a logout or user profile for Extension Mobility.
The Cisco Unified CME GUI uses HTTP to transfer information from the router to the PC of an administrator or phone user. The router must be configured as an HTTP server, and an initial system administrator username and password must be defined from the router command-line interface (CLI). Additional accounts for customer administrators and phone users can be added from the Cisco Unified CME router using Cisco IOS software commands or from a PC using GUI screens.
