CME 9 Location of cnf and per phone versus per phone type

Question

Hello,
Seems like most people these days are using flash as the location of their CME phone firmware, config files, GUI, rintones, etc.
However if you dont need to do locals per phone or phone type, what are the benefits of using flash: versus system: for file locations. I guess maybe limits in space and such but doesnt system perform better as a location than flash ?
Also if you are using flash: for the cnf location and again you arent doing locals per phone, why not do cnf per phone type instead of per phone ?
Finally you see a lot of tftp-server flash: commands that use the alias syntax but a lot of folks don't. When do you really need to use the alias syntax

Per phone type— Creates separate configuration files for each phone type and all phones of the same type use the same configuration file. (perphonetype CNF is okay if you want the same locale for all phones.)
Per phone—Creates a separate configuration file for each phone, by MAC address

Alias works as a shortcut , just like you create shortcut on desktop which points to file/folder deep inside in a directory. So when even phone looks for a specific file which is not stored directly to  flash:/ or system:/ but in the directories of flash or system then you need alias.
