CMOS PROBLEM

Just want to know how to enter cmos in Ultra 10?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi ,
The equivalent of cmos in Sun machines is e-prom. You can set various parameters of the prom and the nvram from the Open Boot Prompt(OBP).
When the machine starts to boot and after it does the memory check if you press the keys "stop" and "a" simultaneously, it breaks the booting process and comes to the OBP prompt. It looks like:
ok >
You can set the different parameters here. To see the list of different parameters and their values use the following command:
ok >printenv
To have more info. on this please refer the OBP reference manual at http://docs.sun.com
Hope that helps

  • TP I Series 1721 2627-721Boot & cmos problem

I am trying to repair a TP I Series 1721 2627-721(P11 300 /192MB /20GB HD) that will not fully boot on most occasions. It will boot but only after several restarts while pressing the F12 key. When it does the cmos resets to default settings and the system clock reverts to 1/1/1988. I get error messages 0251 (Time and Date error) and 0271 (Default configuration set) as well as a red message stating " save to disk file not found/ save to disk feature is disabled/ run phdisk for info. file: create new. partition: consult manual". If I enter cmos and correct everything the machine boots up perfectly to Windows XP Home SP3. All devices work properly as well. When it shuts down it reverts back to the problem. I replaced the 3volt lithium battery but there was no change. The main battery is dead. I thought possibly flashing the bios to the current one may help. Is there a way to do this with a dead main battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    miradiem, welcome to the forum,
just replace the CMOS (Backup Battery), how to instructions can be found in the Hardware Maintainance Manual. Replacing it will stop it producing the error messages.

  • MSI 6590 K4-Ultra CMOS Problem.

    Hello,
I have a problem with the MSI 6590 Motherboard, There is a problem with the CMOS Jumper.  If it is set to 1-2 the board will now power on.  There isno power going to the board.  If the CMOS Jumper is set to 2-3 the board will get power.  Has anyone had this problem, and if so how did you fix this problem, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance...

    I see.
My board also says 1-2 to keep and 2-3 to reset.
When its on 2-3, and you change a setting in the BIOS, does it remain?
To test this you must turn the PC off and back on.
If it does then you could have made a mistake with the pin numbers.
    It is possible
Is something shorting?, try taking the board out and put in back in.

  • Clear CMOS Problem

I have the Neo 2 Plat
I cleared the cmos the way the directions said by moving the jumper to slots 2-3 when the comp was off. Then I moved the jumper to 1-2 turned the comp back on and got the following error.
    CMOS Checksum error-defaults loaded

That's actually normal.  Just press the key to enter setup.  Basically what that message is telling you that the default settings have been loaded.

  • CMOS problems with overclocking

Hi ya all, I originally posted this in the mobo section, but I am not sure if it was the right place so I will see if anyone here can help
I am about to embark on an overclocking exercise (hehe, first try) but I have snag! The adjustment for the CPU ratio does not appear on the CMOS settings. The mobo's destruction manual shows it as being available tho.
Is it because I have a P4 3.06 533 fsb cpu and it cant be changed? Or is there another solution.
I want to lift the speed of the CPU to lift the DDR speed back to 400 because, as I understand it from previous posts, the ram would currently be underclocking. The other reason is I am a speed junkie, why run at 3.06 if I can go at 3.6? Hehe.
The other glitch I have, is I cant change the voltage settings for either the CPU, the ram or the graphics card. Are these physical changes that must be made or is it possible to do from the Cmos. The indicators in cmos are not selectable. I read an article about altering the resistance of resistors on a graphics card but I am reluctant to mess with it.
I'm grateful for any advice... Ta...Turtle

The CMOS for this board doesn't seem to allow it. The speed is shown "blued" out as it is auto detected. I haven't been able to find anywhere that I can disable the auto detection. The bus speed options can be set, however the only choices are 100, 133 (current) and 200. Since the CPU is 533 side bus, then 133 is about the only option to select ? (133 x 23 = 3.06 - 133 x 4 ~ 533).
Is there any other way of changing things to acheive an overclock situation? Is there anyone else out there with a 651? I cant be the only idiot that has bought one - or am I?  X-

  • Possible CMOS Problem on Tecra 9000?

    Hi,
I have a Tecra 9000 that thus far has been superb. However, in the last couple of days when it boots from cold, I see a message which says "Bad Checksum (ROM), and asking mew to press the F1 key to enter Setup. I do, then press End and Y and the machine then boots fine into XP. Time and date are fine. I have tried flashing the BIOS but I already have the latest version and so it won't let me do it.
Does anyone have any ideas? Whilst its not stopping me working, it is irritating!
    Many thanks,
    Greg Thomas

    Hi ,
Before taking your laptop to an ASP , you can try to leave the computer plugged to the mains adapter for 24 hours ( the computer needs to be on while doing so ) , this will help you to charge the CMOS battery , if not then you can take it to an ASP
    Cheers

I built this system myself last Fall.  Operates well, generally, but occasionally, after I shutdown and attempt to restart, my BIOS settings change and my system loses my boot sequence.  It's a simple fix to go in and make the CMOS changes again, but, it's a pain in the butt to have to do this time after time.  How can I run down the problem and save myself the hassles.  Any fixes other than a battery change?  This was occurring prior to my flashing to the 3.5 ver of the BIOS.  Flash went flawlessly.

Per your posts, I have unplugged all USB hardware except my USB Mouse.  I reset to default CMOS settings and then made appropriate changes to my desired boot sequence.  My system clock is functioning just fine and I had replaced the battery in June to rule that variable out.  The last two times I've experienced the CMOS problem is after a Win XP auto-update and restart.  I don't know why this would have anythig to do with my CMOS settings.  Very perplexing !!

  • P67A-GD65 Primary BIOS Failure

    Hello there.
I was playing with memory timings, and after few harmless boot hang ups I'm here...
Thanks to blue flashing LED I know my primary BIOS has failed, however, I cant repair it using secondary BIOS ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=145084.0;attach=7527 ). EFI just hangs up when I try to save any settings.
I did clear CMOS already - no effect.
    Any help much appreciated.

  • Toshiba satalite L305D starts then shuts off. Need help.

Basically the computer will start then about 10-20 sec later will shut off. No display what so ever. Doesnt seem like the computer is getting to POST.
Ive done my research, im just looking for some things to try.
    Things Ive tried.
    * Changed power adapter.
    * Attached VGA to external monitor.
    * Holding the power button for 60 sec without battery and AC (refresh trick)
    * Replaced the entire Motherboard ( yep even that didnt work)
    * Removed and Re-applied thermal paste to CPU and Heatsink.
At this point Im thinking its either the CPU not getting good air flow, or just dead or possibly a CMOS problem. I also tried to remove the CMOS battery, but its Soldered on.
Any help would be appriciated. Also, buying a new computer is not an option.

might be an air flow issue with over heating. might try to take apart the computer and give it a cleaning for dust build up. the other issue is the battery for the cmos could be shot i have had another computer that had this issue before and wouldn't start as well the cmos battery is should be sodered in, like you said. what i did is desoder it and replaced it with another sililar battery from another laptop i wasnt using i'm sure you can purchase one from amazon as well or ebay; and sodering the new on into place. hope this helps.

  • Where is the serial number for the K8n Neo2 Plat?

    Hi guys,
I'm in the process of sending my board in for RMA and I need some help finding the Serial number for my board.
Anybody know where the serial for this board is located?
On the box, or stuck onto the motherboard?
Most of you who has RMA'd the board would know where i can find it.
    Please help...

yup, I found it on the box, but didn't know whether it was the serial or not.
But i've taken the m/b out of the case, and saw a sticker on the back of the board.
Which has identical numbers to the ones on the box :-)
Many thanks for all you replies.
It seems like i'm going to need to RMA this board soon.
Having CMOS problems where I need to clear the CMOS everytime so that tht system can boot up and do its pre-POST testing...
One reader suggested it could be my ps2 k/b causing the failure, but i'm still unsure...
    Many thanks

  • T410 doesn't power on

My machine: T410 Windows 7, up-to-date will all windows update as of May 2012, i5, 2 years no-issues,
The issue: when I press the power button like usual, it won't start (nothing happens). When I remove the power/battery, press the power button repeatedly, it powers on and asked to update time (F1), i update the time and it goes into Windows repair mode for about 10 seconds then powers down. This entire fix/auto-power-down happens each time I try to fix by pressing power button with power/battery removed.
Please help let me know what I should do.
    Best,

Yep, CMOS problem and likely the battery. Why, they should last at least 5-10 years. More than most people would use them.

= 10200 MHz  --> Never ever.  If you can see that in UEFI Setup, you automatically know that this is not the actual setting.  This is either cosmetical problem or a CMOS Problem.
... and still, you haven't provided any system specifications, said nothing about clearing CMOS or not, have not given any contextual information (which UEFI Version were you using before?  Did you have the same problem with it?) etc.

im going to a smaller case for a DVR setup so i cant use this ATI anymore
    please help me
Bios version is the latest 1.A released  on 2011-01-26

Some of the CMOS nonvolatile memory chips are really difficult to clear.  Try doing a clear CMOS as follows:
    1. Pull the power cord or turn of the rear power switch if you have one.
    2. Pull out the CMOS battery (it looks like a coin)
    3. Push the front power switch several times to clear the power caps
    4. Push the clear CMOS button a few times with something like a bent paper clip.  Make sure you feel it click and hold it in a few seconds.
    5. Replace the CMOS battery - make sure the side with the "+" is facing up
    6. Turn on the rear power switch or plug in the power cord.
    7. Hit the front power switch.
If this doesn't work, you will at least know it's not a clear CMOS problem.  It's actually surprising how many people have to pull the battery before the CMOS will clear.

  • 975X Power Up Edition Hangs on "Initializing Hard Drive Controller"

    Symptoms:
4 month old Corsair Force 3 120GB SSD drive would "hang" the system maybe 2-3x in the last month.
Upon reboot no boot device found. Power cable removed from PC, and plugged back in it would work fine.
I switched off my PC at 8am, come home at 5pm, switch on PC and no boot device found.
    Remove power cable, problem persists.
    Clear Cmos, problem persists.
Removed all other unnecessary hardware and tried different cables and ports, problem persists.
Reach conclusion SSD drive is dead.
Plug back in old Hard drive (Still fixed in bottom of PC, but not attached) and PC loads up fine.
Pc randomly restarts about 10x in the space of 24 hours, sometimes with the message no boot device found. (Power cable removal/plugging back in rectifies fault)
    Now, problem persists also.
Remove all unnecessary hardware, and try again. Problem persists.
    Clear CMOS.
Pc shows MSI splash screen, and hangs.
Removed even hard drive, same problem.
Checked D Bracket and I have RRGG which is "Initializing Hard Drive Controller" "This will initialize IDE drive and controller"
    MOBO: MSI 975X Platinum V2.1
    CPU: Core2Duo E6300 1.86Ghz
    GFX: MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5/OC
    Memory: Corsair XMS2-6400 2048MB (X2)
    PSU: Corsair TX650
    HDD1: Corsair Force 3 120GB / HDD2: Seagate Barracuda 250GB
    HDD3: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
    HDD4: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Currently have GFX, 1 Stick of ram, the CPU and its cooler plugged in, that's it.
Any suggestions? I've searched this forum but there aren't any real solutions, one was dead and required RMA'ed, another one depended on the PSU, and another one didn't have enough power to the PCI-E card. (GFX)

Just to be sure on this: What you are saying is that currently, it does not matter what kind of device is attached (SSD, hard drive, optical drive), you get the ""Initializing Hard Drive Controller" "This will initialize IDE drive and controller"", even though if there are no SSDs, hard drives and optical drives connected to the system whatsoever?
