CMS and JDI

1. I have installed JDI for transportation of XI contents. But in the configuration for CMS (CMS Server) there is a path for transport directory  d:/usr/sap/Jtrans.This directory does not exist on my server. I am using AIX 5.3 server and I installed JDI on a server onto which XI was already installed.Should I create a new folder Jtrans under usr/sap or can I user any path in the transport directory?
2. what are other uses of JDI apart from CMS?

  • WebAS 6.40 SP10 and JDI (SP09) out of sync

    Hallo all,
my JDI installation (SP09) is out of sync with the WebAS on which it is running (SP10). What do I have to do in order to lift the JDI on SP10? Can I go ahead and apply JDI SP10 or is there another way of getting WebAS and JDI into sync again?
As a side note: I have already started to configure DTR and CBS and failed when trying to run the CMS WebUI for configuration purposes. That's when I became aware of the problem.
I greatly appreciate any help on this!

  • Difference between NWDI and JDI

    Hi to all,
Is there any one who can give me answer on next question.
    1. What is difference between NWDI and JDI? I have got confused because I red tutorials how to configure NWDI and there are two roles that use the same UME Actions.  JDI.Administrator and NWDI.Administrator that uses CBS.Administrator and CMS.Administrate actions. Is it the same? Is NWDI is the same as JDI but for NW2004s (NW7.00)?
        Best Regards,
    Aleksandar

    Hi Aleksandar
NWDI is same as JDI but the version difference. If you just use NWDI.Administrator  it should work fine.

  • Creating XI Roles for CMS and NWDI on seperate J2EE server

We are going through the "How to Transport XI Content Using CMS" Guide.  We are runnning CMS and NWDI on a seperate J2EE server.
It's not clear from the guide what we need to do on the J2EE side in terms of the user and roles.  The guide mostly details setting up CMS/NWDI on the same box as XI.  So we created the XIDIRUSER and XIREPUSER on the seperate J2EE server.  We add these users to the SAP_CMS_ADMISTRATOR role/group.
    Questions -
    - Do we need to create any XI specific profiles/roles on the server - or is that applicable only to CMS running on the XI box?
    - Are there any things that we need to keep in mind that is not in the guide when we are setting this up.
If you have a similar landscape (with CMS and NWDI) on a seperate server, I would like to know how you set this up.
    Thanks for your help.

    any progress?
on your environment, have U installed DEV, CONS, PRD?
i will be trying to set DEV and PRD, so i am not clear from guide weather it is possible or not.
and do i register J2EE on JDI BOX to SLD on same box?
or only register J2EE on JDI box to centeral SLD box via data supplier on J2EE engine on JDI box
    so here are some questions i am not clear;
    1. JDI server should be registered to SLD on same JDI BOX? or centeral SLD we are currently using?
    or both?
    2. according to Guide, they provide to make a domain or track DEV,CONS,PRD, but we will have DEV,PRD. so is it possible to configure CMS?

  • Changing CMS and Audit Repository databases from Oracle to SQl server 2008

    Hi guys,
We have a Business Objects Dev environment which was installed with Oracle 10g database for CMS and Audit Repository.
Our database team now decided to change the CMS and Audit databases of Dev BOE from Oracle to  SQL server 2008.
What is the ideal way to achieve this? I'm concerned because the old DB is Oracle and the new one would be SQL server.
Earlier, I have changed CMS database from one to another by stopping SIA , taking the backup of old DB into new and changing it in the Update Databse option. But in that case both old and new CMS databses were on SQL server 2005.
    Thanks,
    Ganga

    Denise,
      Thanks for the solution.
We have done Windows AD and SAP integration on the Dev BOE. Will there be any issue with those after the DB change. I am guessing there won't be, but just want to confirm. Please reply.
Also, we need to stop the old SIA and start using the new SIA after the step two is done right?

  • DB2 UDB9.1 support as CE10 CMS and Audit database

Does any body know if DB2 UDB 9.1 is supported as CMS and Audit database for Crystal Enterprise (CE) version 10?
I know CE 10 is not supported by BO any more, we are in the process of migrating to BOXI but mean while we have a need to upgrade DB2 UDB from 8.1 to 9.1 version.

    Please advise.
    Thanks

    Hello Romain,
Thank you very much for your clarifications.
I guess there was a second question hidden behind my first question.
Here is the whole story, we had a workshop yesterday with some Consultants specialized on BI.4 technologies. We were discussing the architecture, and more particularly which would be the most suitable Web Application Server :
    * It seems that most SAP Customers choose the bundled WAS : Tomcat 7
    * But as SAP Basis Administrators,we had pretty much no previous exposure to Tomcat/Apache Technologies
    * The Consultants told us that an increasing number of SAP Customers are choosing SAP NW AS for deployment of BOE.war and other BI webapps
    * But so are now considering installing dedicated Netweaver AS on Windows, that will be acting as BI 4.1 Application Servers. We do not plan to deploy BI 4.1 applications on any of our existing  NW AS ,as they have been installed on HP-UX ( not supported by BI.4 )
The only problem with that is that you can not install a Netweaver AS, without its corresponding Database, so I was wondering if that New Oracle Database installed only when deploying"NW AS/BI 4 Web application Tier", could be used as the CMS/Audit Database.
Your latest answer seems to suggest that it is definitely not a good idea.
The thing is , that we do not want to end up with two databases per Landscape tier (DEV,QAS,PRD)
I hope it is a bit more clear.
    Thank you

  • Solman and JDI !!!

    Hi All,
<b>Solution Manager:</b>The SAP Solution Manager supports you throughout the entire lifecycle of your solutions, from the Business Blueprint thru configuration to production operation. It provides central access to tools methods and preconfigured content, that you can use during the evaluation, implementation, and productive operation of your systems.
    whereas
<b>Java Development Infrastructure:</b>SAP NetWeaver Java Development Infrastructure (also named Development Infrastructure). It enhances the concept of an IDE by server-side services, which centrally provides the development teams with a consistent development environment and supports the software development during the entire life cycle of a product(Dev->QA->Prod).
can we correlate and establish a linkage between
Solman and JDI if so what points we you will consider.
Your inputs will be highly appreciated....
    Regards,
    RK

    Hi Venkat,
    good question.
Short answer is: the Solution Manager is a tool to ORGANIZE changes in a System Landscape, the NWDI is the tool to PERFORM the task for Java Development.
So both tools are meant for the same task, but on different layers. The Solution Manager uses the NWDI to perform Java Development and Modification. Besides, the Solution Manager is using a few more tools to perform the tasks, that are described by it (e.g. Software Lifecycle Manager, TMS, ...).
    Have a look at the <a href="https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/instguidesnw2004s">Installation Guides for NW2004s</a> --> Installation

  • CMS and Audit DB: DBA Tips

Anyone seen any good blogs, whitepapers, or other info on tuning the CMS and Audit DB?  I am looking for info on things a DBA should consider in keeping the DBs in tip top and good performing shape.  For example, is there ever a reason to partition tables?  When does it make sense to run statistics, if ever?  What settings would optimize thruput?  High availability considerations?  Basically, the types of things a DBA should consider in a large enterprise environment for a BOBJ system that has been running for years or will be running for years?  As a consultant, we usually set our customers up and then we rarely revisit this sort of topic.  It says something for the stability and design that it rarely needs consideration.  But it would be nice to have some valid and vetted sources of information to educate DBAs tasked with keeping these databases in top shape.  Its simple to say that you would do the same things you would do for any other database but when you consider an encrypted CMS, etc. its not necessarily clear what is safe and what is not safe in this department.  Also, what you as DBAs (if looking) do to keep an eye on things and make sure I/O is ok, you give enough threads, account for growth and increased usage, etc.  I can certainly come up with some basics but I have decided to open up a discussion to see what others are doing.

1 account is fine, we consolidate all the time from older docs that used to indicate more than 1.
The primary advantage of using multiple is that when logging on the DB, or other you can see which process is hitting it. Since only yhe CMs would hit either the CMS DB or auditing DB then it really shouldn't matter.

    Tim

  • Backingup and Restoring CMS and Auditing Database

We have a senario where out database server is completely down , we are unable to start services on SQL Server and it is not possible to restore them. Now we have our CMS and Auditing databases on that database. We have access to the file system from which we can take mdf and ldf files and restore the same to a new database. But CMS database cannot be restored in that way. How can i  restore the CMS to original state. We also have a backup for those databases i.e., .bak file. Please help

    Anil,
You should be able to copy the *.MDF & *.LDF set from one SQL Server to another and mount them on another working SQL server.  Once you have validated the SQL Server database is mounted properly simple update the ODBC on the BOBJ box to point to the new server.  Make sure the ODBC name stays the same.
You problem is more related to back and restore/recover of SQL Server.

  • CMS and CTS+

    Hi all,
I want to know the difference between CTS+ and CMS. Is there any additional advantage provided by CTS+ over CMS? Also what is the difference in the procedure to transport IR and ID objects in CMS and CTS+.
Any links to documents related to transporting IR , ID objects via CMS and CTS+ will be very helpful.
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi,
What is CTS+ and why is is introduced:
The Change and Transport System (CTS) is a tool that helps you to organize development projects in the ABAP Workbench and in Customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP Systems in your system landscape.
The XI use case for CTS+ introduces a new transport handling mechanism that offers tighter integration for the transport of ABAP, Java, and Integration Builder objects (Integration Repository and Integration Directory) using the Change and Transport System (BC-CTS) functionality.
As your XI system requires both the ABAP and the Java stack of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server, the following transport tools are available after installation:
    u2022
    The ABAP transport environment (BC-CTS)
    u2022
The file export and import mechanisms or CMS integration to transport Repository or Directory objects in your transport landscape
In addition, you might also have to transport Java development objects by using the SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure itself.
The enhancements to CTS in combination with the SAP Solution Manager Change Request Management (ChaRM) address the following issues:
    u2022
Synchronized transports for mixed systems (ABAP & Java)
    u2022
A unified application for mixed system landscapes
    u2022
Tracking of non-ABAP transports including Change Request Management
For your XI landscapes there will be one central transport environment with CTS+ where you can manage all XI-relevant transport objects from a single entry point.
This how-to guide describes the configuration settings you must make in the CTS+ system and XI systems. The functionality must be set up according to the release version of the integrated XI system. The two configurations will be described separately:
    u2022
Configuration setup for releases prior to SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS12 (also for SAP NetWeaver 2004 SPS14 and higher).
    u2022
Configuration setup for release SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS12 and higher.
Refer the link for CTS+ step by step method of transport:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80bbbd55-5004-2a10-f181-8bb096923cb6
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/03/dcb6b6048711d3b42a00609419f767/frameset.htm

CMS is generally used to transport Java development objects. The XI Integration Server uses CMS to transport Integration Server content. When the Integration Server uses CMS to transport XI Content, no Component Build Service (CBS) or Design Time Repository (DTR) is used and can therefore be switched off. If you want to transport Integration Server content and Java developments (Java proxies or adapter modules), the CBS and DTR must be running.
If you transport Java developments, you should keep in mind that deployment of Java code can destabilize the runtime environment. Therefore, it is beneficial to install CMS on a separate server, as described in SAP Note 737368 for NWDI.
In this How-to Guide, CMS is installed together with an Integration Server system in the development environment. The advantage of this approach is that you have fewer steps in user management and CMS cannot influence the runtime of a productive environment.
With the enhancements of the SAP NetWeaver Change and Transport System (CTS for short, or CTS+ respectively, if specifically the enhanced capabilities are meant), available with SPS12 of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the CTS has been enhanced to handle any type of object that can be transported in an SAP system landscape. Therefore, an administrator of your ABAP system can now also manage the transports for the non-ABAP parts of your system landscape.
You can now use CTS to transport (almost) arbitrary objects in an SAP system landscape with transport orders of the Transport Organizer:
    u2022
    Enterprise Portal archives (EPAs)
    u2022
    Exchange Infrastructure objects (TPZs)
    u2022
    Software component archives (SCAs)
    u2022
    Software delivery archives (SDAs)
    u2022
    Enterprise Application Archives (EARs)
    u2022
    ABAP objects
Development objects will be deployed according to their application type. Objects in a single transport order can be a mixture of all types u2013 however that only makes sense, if both are intended for the same system because transport paths are defined in the transport domain controller system.
CTS+ and usage type PI (SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure, XI)
    o
If you are not using the Change Management Service CMS of the NWDI, you should seriously consider using CTS+ for your XI transports (CTS+ & SAP NetWeaver usage type PI).
    o
If you are already using the CMS, you should postpone any planned migration to use CTS+ up to availability of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 13 , where integration will be enhanced futher.
    o
In any case you should evaluate the enhanced CTS options of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 comming with SPS 12 and extensions planned with SPS 13/14 for XI transports u2013 in the mid and long term CTS+ is the best practice recommended by SAP for XI tranports.

  • CMS and/or S/MIME library in iOS

    Hello,
is there a native CMS and/or a S/MIME library on iOS devices? If not, are there any third party libraries you know which work on not jailbroken devices?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chris

Then the short answer is yes. It is built into the OS. You can send and receive S/MIME messages in iOS.
The long answer is no. There is no API level support for CMS. But there is also no API level support for mail either. There is an API that will bring up an e-mail editing window to send a message using your default e-mail account. If S/MIME is enabled for that account, and you have a certificate for the recipient, then you should be able to send encrypted messages. If you want to send an e-mail in some other fashion, secure or not, you will have to hack it up on your own using lower level interfaces, many of which are on iOS.

  • Difference between CMS and CTS

    Hi
can anybody give me a fifference between  CMS and CTS .. i know both are used for transoporting the XI objects.. but what is the difference between each other...  and when we prefer each one..  and what are the adavantages and Disadavatages of each..

    Hi,
    CTS
The Change and Transport System (CTS) is a tool that helps you to organize development projects in the ABAP Workbench and in customizing, and then transport the changes between the SAP Systems and clients in your system landscape.
This documentation provides you with an overview of how to manage changes with the CTS and essential information on setting up your system and client landscape and deciding on a transport strategy. Read and follow this documentation when planning your development project.
For practical information on working with the Change and Transport System, see Change and Transport Organizer and Transport Management System.
What ever is developed in sap is assiged to a transport request, it is created by transaction SE09 and then it is released when the data needs to be transported in various other systems.
The Change and Transport System (CTS, SAP NetWeaver usage type AS ABAP) is enhanced with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 12 to be capable of transporting Non-ABAP object types, such as from the SAP NetWeaver usage types PI (Exchange Infrastructure), EP (Portal), etc. The enhanced CTS I will refer to as CTS+. Using its new capabilities further simplifies system administration of an SAP system landscape.
