CMS for Dreamweaver designed site

HI, I designed an 8 page website for a friend with dreamweaver cs3 and he would like to access the pages himself to make text changes from his own PC.
Is there a CMS that he can download and use to change text and images on a website desinged with CS3, I see from other discussions Webassist and Cushycms mentioned, but are they suitable for CS3 designs.
Thank you

This should have been discussed & in your contract well BEFORE you began buiding the site.  It costs more and requires extra coding to make a CMS site.  I hope you plan to bill for all the extra work involved.
#1 find out if your client's server supports PHP & MySql.  This will be required for just about any CMS you decide to use.
#2 The CMS you choose will depend on 4 things:
     a) your coding skills,
     b) client's  requirements,
     c) your server's programming languages,
     d) project budget.

  • CMS for Dreamweaver and PHP with MySQL

    Hello
I am at a medium level with Dreamweaver MX and 8. I have
created a dynamic website running PHP and MySQL. The site sells
luxury yachts (resales). What I need is a simple, not too custom
code heavy content management system to allow the client to update
dynamic text areas and upload images via a web browser (IE7 PC).
The site needs the ability to input new boats, and delete sold
boats (flush out the database items).
Has anyone got a recommendation for some CMS software,
preferably Mac OSX PPC and running on a server under linux.
I don't mind buying it, in fact rather do that than risk
    shareware going forward.

I have the exact same need. Looks like nobody had any
suggestions for the original poster. Perhaps someone can make a
recommendation this time? I too am looking for a commercial
    product, rather than open-source.

  • Entire Dreamweaver-designed site not showing up in IE

Hey there, I'm a novice web designer building an html website. This is my 4th website I've built using these techniques and for some reason only the background is showing up on Internet Explorer and none of the content. The site works fine in Mozilla. Can't tell what I've done wrong here, can anybody help?
    Here's the site: http://www.lawofficesofeliotgorson.com
I also welcome any criticism of the coding etc. Anything that'll make the site better. Thanks

This is probably the bulk of it right here:
Line 1,         Column 1:     no document type declaration; implying "<!DOCTYPE HTML SYSTEM>"<html>
The checked page did not contain a document type ("DOCTYPE") declaration.      The Validator has tried to validate with a fallback DTD, but this is quite likely to be incorrect and will generate a large number of incorrect error messages. It is highly recommended that you insert the proper DOCTYPE declaration in your document -- instructions for doing this are given below -- and it is necessary to have this declaration before the page can be declared to be valid.

  • Publish a Dreamweaver designed Site to a Wordpress hosted Domain

Hi everyone, I'm very new to this, and been relying on some amazing YouTube tutorials out there!
I've come across a slight problem. I brought a domain name using Wordpress.com and have a rough blog there - very messy.
I've since redesigend the entire website on Dreamweaver CS6 (very proud!) and now have come up against a slight problem - I have no idea how to publish it to the domain name.
I've tried installing wordpress and using MAMP, but havn't been able to find a way at all and been unable to find anyone experiance a similar problem - leading me to belive I'm doing something stupid!
Any help would be very much apreciated!

OK it is pretty easy to do.
    1) Contact Wordpress.com guys and tell them you want to host a static site somewhere else because they don't allow static sites on their platform;  Therefore, they should give the name of your registrar or you could tell us what is your site called so that we can tell you exactly who your registrar is.
    2) You need to find another host to upload your site to.  There are plenty out there; some are pretty cheap and some are little bit expensive.  Some are free and still very good.
    3) Ask them or find out yourself by logging into your account, what the DNS is so point to your your site.
    4) You now need to log into your registrar's website and enter the dns details for your site.
    5) That is it in a nutshell.
I know for sure that wordpress.com WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO UPLOAD YOUR OWN SITE.  They say security risk but it is to do with their set-up.

  • CMS for non-CMS HTML sites

There are lots of nice, attractive HTML templates out there for purchase that can deployed quickly for sites such as restaurants, cafes and the like. While I usually use Joomla and Wordpress exclusively, I wouldn't mind using some of these simple HTML templates simply because there are a lot of them and that gives me more choices. Moreover, they usually come as responsive templates nowadays so you get to charge the client for that without having to install an extension to create a mobile site (even though that's not really more than a five-minute operation).
Since I always market my sites by offering both a Content Managment System and a Responsive Design, I don't want to put myself in a box by having to use Joomla and Wordpress when I could just as easily install a little CMS for basic editing of text and images.
In the past I have always found security to be an issue with these budget CMS, so this would have to be resolved before I would be willing to use one.

  • CSM For Dreamweaver Site with Business Catalyst

I am looking for a way to add a simple CMS to a few sites I have created in Dreamweaver CS5.5.  Can I "convert" a site built in Dreamweaver into a Business Catalyst site so I can use the CMS feature?

    Hi,
Yes this is possible as you can build the site and choose the "start from scratch" option which the system will create a blank site.  Then you can upload all your current page/content/files in DW using FTP.
Once you create the blank site follow the FTP guide for login details and you should be up and running once your files are all loaded.

I have just started to use Muse for our design agency and learning how to build ourselves a new site, I have managed to create a basic lightbox which contains sliding images, what I need to do now is have a pop up window which goes into detail about the projects, what I would like is a piece of text  or icon that when you roll over it and then click a separate window pops up with additional information in, once finished reading the info you can then click to close the box, any advice on how to do this?

The best way to do what you're asking is with the Composition widget. Start with the Tooltip preset, which, by default shows the info on rollover. You can change the option to show on click, which is what you're after. You can also add the close button or have the info disappear on rollout.

  • This workflow cannot be imported because it was created in SharePoint Designer for a different Site

Hello everyone.  I am getting this error when attempting to move minor workflow changes from mirror SharePoint development / production environments and hoping someone can help me.
"This workflow cannot be imported because it was created in SharePoint Designer for a different site, or the original workflow has been moved or deleted.  To move a workflow between sites, use Save as Template (.wsp file) instead of a Visio workflow
    drawing."
So basically I have taken an image of our single SharePoint server, Domain Controller, and a client and restored them to an OFFLINE development environment for the testing of workflow changes prior to production.  I've put quite a bit of time into one
particularly and would like to export/import rather than re-created from scratch.
I've successfully created the form template and imported.  This created the necessary list items nicely and the form appears to work as expected.  However, when attempting to import the .VWI file exported from dev SharePoint, I am getting the above
error.  If I change the .VWI to .zip and remove the "workflow.xoml.wfconfig.xml" file, then re-zip and change the file extension back to .VWI I get a dialog that allows me to import, but I have to choose a new name and much of the related content
is lost.  I need to be able to overwrite/merge the existing workflow with the import.  Any suggestions?
One strange thing I ran into was during a test of an export/import from and to the exact same environment. If I simply export to .VWI, then import from .VWI with no changes, SAME everything I still get this error. Very weird. Hoping someone can shed some
light on the subject. Thank you.

  • Has anyone seen a designer's caluculator extension for dreamweaver to measure elements in a cascade?

Has anyone seen a designer's caluculator extension for dreamweaver to measure elements margins' and paddings' in a cascade?

Another option is to also use Firebug for FF:
    http://getfirebug.com/
    and/or Developers Toolbar for IE:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18359
These are not DW based but still can provide a good look (visually as well as css rules) at the various elements on the page and in a sort of cascading view... showing the base css, any overriding rules, etc all the way down into the nested elements.
I use both because sometimes the two browser render things slightly different.

  • HELP:Setting up Fireworks website Background Scroll for Dreamweaver Export

This is what I have designed for my website thus far (image attached) The lime green rectangle is the box that I want to extend for user to scroll down for more information while on the Website. How do I set up this image/function for dreamweaver CS4 html compatible.
Do I use 9 slice scaling or Export a small horizontal image that repeats as the back ground or what.
    Please Help me.
    Thank you.

It's impossible to see all the details you have from the size of the image you show. It looks like you have a small graphic next to each block of text. If that's what you're asking about then you should export just that graphic and use CSS to place that as part of a class for a div. For each block of text + photo, then, you would add another div. Once you get the code right for one block, you're fine. You do not write this code in Fireworks. You do it in Dreamweaver.
You can't use a repeating graphic for this element (if it is what you're asking about), because the text blocks may or may not line up with it.
Try going through this tutorial (the graphics can be done with Fireworks instead of Photoshop)
    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/design-and-code-your-first-website-i n-easy-to-understand-steps/
You can also learn a great deal by looking at the work of others. If you see a site you like, use your browser's source view function and see how it was put together:
    View>Source (IE)
    View>Page Source (Firefox)
    [page control icon]>Developer>View Source
    Ctrl-U (Firefox or Chrome)
    Here's a site full of inspiration: http://cssbrigit.com/
Again, your image is small, I could very well have misunderstood your question. If so, please describe what you're asking for.

  • Muse vs Wordpress for Real Estate site?

I need to make a fairly complex site for a real estate developer who has several subdivisions and offers extensive services.  I would love to use Muse for the design flexibility, but I can't find how I can make a searchable database of properties that the site owner could update.
Do I really need to use Wordpress to accomplish this?!

    Hi
With Muse you can design the site , regarding content management this is done on hosting platform where you host the site as you avail the crm/cms feature where clients can manage the contents.
You can use any hosting platform like wordpress or Business Catalyst, where we publish the site and then manage cms from site backend.
Let me know if you need more details.

  • Seeking: Drop Down Menu Tutorial for DreamWeaver CC (Pure CSS)

    Hey all.
I'm relatively new to Dreamweaver, and web design in general.  I took on a project to create a small-business website for my buddy.
I'll start by saying that I've googled, and have found several copy / paste solutions, as well as several plugin-style solutions.  For various reasons, I'm not interested in other methods of creating a menu (jQuery).  Project 7, before you post (like you seem to do in EVERY thread I've read about this topic...), I may purchase your tool later, but I want to learn the process first.
I'd like to know if anyone knows of a video or a walkthrough of how to create a CSS-only drop down menu for DreamWeaver CC.  An in-depth tutorial will help me better understand CSS and HTML in general, as well as help me navigate the changes in DreamWeaver (namely, the CSS designer).
    Any ideas?

  • Arch workflow design advice for a designer?

Sorry for the ambiguous title, I couldn't figure out what to call this post.
I'm new to Arch, though not Linux, and I must say, this is an amazing distro (I'm on the 64bit version). Dead simple, super fast, and nearly as flexible as a Gentoo system (that can use binaries!). Pacman is rockin'.
I'm a designer by trade: Web, video, and image. And I STILL boot into Windows for important tasks like Flash work, video work, and ftp work. I would obviously like to reduce that dependency, though there is little hope in the video department, right now.
But for web, I see no reason I couldn't do it all in linux. But I'm not sure how to go about it. Here is the workflow I need, and I was wondering if you could advise how I might set up such a system (I have just a base system with Gnome installed right now):
    * WYSIWYG html and CSS editting (NVU/Kompose is fine for html, but NOT for CSS) for the design phase
    * A way to output image slices with html (does GIMP do this?)
    * Accurate web fonts
    * Reliable ftp, preferably one with drag n' drop functionality (I use filezilla on Windows, but I think the linux version lacks the drag n' drop)
It's not a real complicated workflow, I just need to save time wherever possible because I need to work very fast. In windows, it's like having a ball and chain strapped to your leg, but it does work. With linux, I will very much appreciate access to terminal and file management advantages.
I'm not stuck on Gnome, I just like the simplicity. I'm mainly interested in speed and efficiency (NOTE efficiency... I like time savers and fluxbox always seems to add clicks to my tasks). Let me know what you think! I may be able to move my flash work over with a little help from VirtualBox too, but I think I'm stuck when it comes to video . Thanks for any advice you might have!

No offense, but using WYSIWYG to design web pages doesn't sound very professional imo. They just don't offer the control that one would want with the code. I have tried a few (Frontpage, Dreamweaver, NVU, Bluefish, ...) and they all suck. They just don't do what you want it to. You drag something or add some formatting and it just messes up the code. It's better to just use a text editor and view the results in browser. Maybe that's slow or inefficient for you, but I find that's the best way to do it.
As for image slicing, I find that annoying as well. In Photoshop I never really liked the way it worked. I sliced a few images and then trashed most of the others. I tend to go for simple designs and focus on making it mostly CSS, so when I slice images it's usually a 1px wide/high gradient which would get repeated. I don't need image slicing for that. As for graphic intensive sites... well... really, you should review that. People still have slow connections and having a lot of graphics is just bad, even if your client wants it. You might as well go with flash, and waste some more bandwidth
If you really want to do it though, I think Inkscape is quite a nice tool. I do all my designing in it, and though I don't use slicing, you can do it quite easily (though it's a bit hackish) by adding a layer and creating transparent rectangles around the stuff you want, then just select the rectangle and export it. I'm not sure if there's a more automatic way - there are plenty of tutorials.
The MS-fonts should be fine, I just want to know that I am looking at an accurate representation of what I my windows customers will see.
Fonts won't help you much there. You know most people use IE, so you need to view the website in IE regardless, and that means you need Windows (I think wine uses some weird IE version which uses gecko). Maybe there's some good Linux alternative for viewing stuff in IE, but I just view it on Windows. Also the font shouldn't change the general layout of the site... I don't see how that would be a problem unless it's some weird font that not everyone has, in which case you'd use @font-face anyway...

  • What is your workflow for building a site?

I built sites a few years ago and am getting back into it. My traditional workflow would be to mock up a site in photoshop, slice it up, open the html file in Dreamweaver which would have the images put in a table, then do some editing, insert the rollovers for the nav bar, make that into a template and use it for other pages, etc. I realize that this process is now woefully out of date, so how does one go about doing a semi basic website the "right" way these days? I know a little bit about CSS but I've never used divs before.
Also, how wide are people designing sites these days? I used to make my sites around 760 pixels wide, considering people would have their screen resolution set to 800x600. Do people still use this width as a safety measure or are you designing for 1024x 768 these days?
    Thanks.

It's not nessesary to learn all three, or any at all. There's thousands of open-source and commercial content management systems out there, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. They're just about all configurable to some degree or another, some are easy to "theme" (WordPress), while some can be a bit more challenging (Drupal).
Using WordPress as an example (which is the easiest in my opinion), you'd creat a custom theme by editing a selection of php template files:
header.php  - This file contains just about everything you'd  expect that goes into the top of a website. The doctype declaration,  your opening and closing head tags, any javascript links you setup, etc.
page.php  - This file is responsible for calling the appropriate content from the  WordPress database that you setup. It also calls the sidebar and the  footer.
sidebar.php - This file houses whatever  you'd like to appear on the side of each page. It also summons a  admin-configurable "widget" area, that you can manipulate through your  dashboard.
footer.php - This file wraps up the  document with your closing </body> and </html> tags, among  other elements typically found in a footer (copyright info, etc).
Wordpress then wraps all of these files together, inserts the "content" that you enter in the admin section and displays the finished page to the user.
