CMS Installation being blocked by

I'm trying to install creative media source on XP SP2, I've downloaded the latest version, but on running the installer, I get amessage saying that the software has not passed compatability testing and will not be installed - I get no option to allow installation.
The popup window appears in the task bar as a windows media player software installation
Any ideas how I can get round this?

I had already set my options to allow installations, I rebooted and everthing went through ok, the only thing I can think of is that I had used media player earlier and that in typical microsoft style, it had left a process running that was causing a conflict.
I install/uninstall quite a lot of software and have never come across a complete block before - the givaway was the media player icon in the task bar when the popup appeared.

CMS Config on DEV XI

We have landscape of four XI with SLD for each instance. And we are in the process of Migrating Sand, Dev and Q into one SLD. On Dev XI, we have portal instance running and CMS already configured to work for Portal Transports. For XI, we are yet to config.
My Question is: Can we config the CMS on same DEV XI to work through the transport, is there any conflicts between Portal CMS and XI CMS with respect to the transports.
We are trying to meet the timelines and budget, so we may not expect the Hardware for Seperate CMS Installation to take a place and trying to see if there are any work arounds.
Any help is appreciated

Initial BI 4 CMS install

I'm confused how to start my initial BOE 4.1 SP4 install.
This is a brand new install.
I have two empty databases on a a MS SQLserver (one for CMS, one for Audit).
These are Windows 2008 R2 servers.
I will be having a cluster where:
Server1 Web Tier
Server2 CMS and FRS related services
Server3 Second CMS and FRS related services
Server4 Crystal related job server services
Server5 Second Crystal related job server services
Server6 WebI related job server services
My question is how do I get my initial CMS database created?
I can't just do a Web Tier install on Server1 because it will be looking for an existing CMS.
I don't want to do a full install on Server2 because I won't be running the Web Tier components from there.
Do I perform a full install on Server1 and then disable the non-Web Tier components afterward?
It's been a while since I've done a brand new install with the intention of clustering.

To simplify things:
The server numbering that has been done might be the reason of confusion.
Move Server1 to Server6 order, and bump up the rest so that CMS tier 1 is Server1!
1. A CMS repository is created when a CMS installation is performed.
- Therefore, install your CMS tiers first.
- Ensure the FRS is configured.
- You should be able to login to CMC, Launchpad, etc (if you also plan to install a Tomcat on atleast 1 of these).
This is your CORE installation.
You can now install the rest of the tiers atop this.
2. Install the processing tiers.
- This can be done in a parallel fashion.
- These installations (custom, no CMS) require atleast 1 CMS installed to a repository.
- You can use the primary CMS in the cluster during installation to register them to the CMS database.
3. Install the Web Tier (these are pretty much independent as the CMS db plays no role here).
- This should be the basic approach.
- Testing at each phase will allow you to ensure that part of the installation is working fine.
- Then move on to the next phase.
- If you have any additional customization such as SSO, 3rd party authentication, web app customizing, etc. This should be done once the platform is successfully tested.
Hope this simplifies the skeleton plan for the installation.

I believe that the issue you are encoutering looks like the following:
"The CMS installation wizard fails when creating the internal database.
I'm running the installation wizard and it fails to accept the information I enter for the internal database. I'm getting the "Invalid Credentials" error message.
When creating the internal database, which is an instance of Netscape Directory Server 4.1, the CMS installation wizard performs some LDAP operations by calling command-line tools, such as ldapmodify. These tools are invoked by /bin/sh on Solaris. One of the command-line arguments to the tool is the bind password. If this password has any other character interpreted by the shell (for example, #, $, %, *, (, ), -, ', ", ?, \, |, ~, or `), the password gets mangled by the shell, causing ldapmodify to fail (with an "Invalid Credentials" error), which in turn causes the wizard to fail.
To workaround the problem, use an alphanumeric password for the internal database. [# 357672]"
The above information was found in an old FAQ of CMS 4.1x.

CMS Migration - Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 & Pool Pairing

Hi all,
Question regarding CMS installation when migrating away from Lync 2010.
Here's a brief overview of topology
- Lync 2010 Pool in Data Centre 1
- Lync 2013 Pool #1 in Data Centre 1
- Lync 2013 Pool #2 in Data Centre 2
- Lync 2013 Pools are paired
Consider the following
- CMS located on SQL Backend server for Lync 2010 Pool
- CMS database installed on SQL Back end for Lync 2013 Pool #1. CMS is moved to this location
Now for correct pool pairing and failover capabilities I would assume that
- CMS database needs to also be installed on SQL back end for Lync 2013 Pool #2
Once this is done then Lync 2013 Pool #2 Front Ends should replicate back into the CMS stored on the back end SQL database for pool #2? Nothing else would need to be done? As soon as it's installed its now a backup?
If I'm reading into this correctly the following from TechNet is basically telling me to do this?
When you establish a pool pairing that includes the pool hosting the Central
Management store, a backup Central Management store database is set up in the
backup pool, and Central Management store services are installed in both pools.
At any point in time, one of the two Central Management store databases is the
active master, and the other is a standby. The content is replicated by the
Backup Service from the active master to the standby.

Correct, when you enable pool pairing on Pool A - if it's a CMS server - it will prompt you to create the CMS database on Pool B. If you move CMS into a pool that is already pool paired, my experience is that CMS doesn't get created on Pool B because the

BO XI 3.1 SP3 Install issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

We are trying to install the lastest Build of Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 on a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit OS (51038908_part1.exe,51038908_part2.rar, 51038908_part3.rar).
The setup never finish! It seems that the setup can't validate the CMS installation and is trying again and again.
In the "Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 - Windows - Supported Platforms" document, the Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise 64-bit Edition is supported.
The antivirus is desactivated and the setup.exe file was launched in the administrator mode.
Any ideas?

We have run into similar issues with that same package (51038908_part1.exe) which is a complete install of "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" for Windows 2008 Server that only installs in the 64-bit mode.
We had a 32-bit Oracle 10g client installed, that BOE did not recognize for the CMS - so the install was hanging at the CMS config...(no clear errors / no simple way to roll-back the failed install).
We only discovered the underlying Oracle issue when we deployed just the CMS with a local MySQL database - and then tried to point the CMS at the Oracle DB instead. It gave us TNS errors even though we could hit the same TNS without issue using SQL-PLUS on the same machine.
This lead us to assume that the 64-bit BOE couldn't connect via the 32-bit Oracle 10g drivers.
We have had trouble installing the 64-bit Oracle 10g client that we downloaded - so are now looking for some advice.
Anyone know which specific 64-bit Oracle 10g client should be used with the cumulative "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" 64-bit package (51038908_part1.exe)...?
I assume that this Oracle client will be used for any connection to the CMS / AUDIT Oracle databases - and any RPT content running on the CR-JobServers that is using an Oracle Native connection...?

Are you sure because SWFLoader works only Flex 3.6 or older SDK right?
Just wait, i have been found because same developers have been got nice trick with swfLoader like omgpop.com or any website with flash content pages with swfloader. Why does swfLoader not work for my FLEX 4.6 SDK? Or I must reinstall Flash Builder 4.6?
Do you know becasue swfLoader will switch loading currect external flash content page.
For Example:
Own Website was created / registered than it didn't write completed sql files by PHP Script than Flash Content Page will load source ( /install/screen_installer.swf ) and an admin will write completed your account once installing process ...
On the Website Flash Content Page find - if his data base was written completed on the website than flash content page will load default screen ( source: /pages/screen_mainpage.swf ) and an admin configured ready with his website. than any visitors come his website and sign up ur new account ( member ) - But Member shouldn't see administratived screen of flash content pages.

Using extended attributes

Hi Folks,
I'm new to sun idm and i need to add some new attributes to user object.
what i have done is updating the idm schema configuration. But what to do next?
I'm really going insane, read hundreds of pages about forms views and workflows but
this does not help for me, argh!
The goal is to be able to enter the values for these new attributes when a user is created.
So i want to adjust anonymous enrollment and user creation by admin...
Can someone point out the steps to go on?

not sure where you extended attribute went; maybe iFS created a DOCUMENT2 class for you by default. anyway, in order to do this the right way:
first, you need to properly extend the document class, creating a new content class with your extended attributes. for example, create the class ARIDOCUMENT that extends DOCUMENT and adds the TITLE attribute. (look at the developer docs or the sample code to see how to do this. there's a complete example on creating and modifying subclasses in the CMS installation at: 9ifs\samplecode\oracle\ifs\examples\devdoc\subclassing)
once you do that, in order to create a new document with your custom fields, you need to perform the following steps: create a new document definition, set the standard attributes, apply your custom doctype, and then set the extended attributes. here's a quick snippet:

FTP dictionary attack - how to prevent ?

I'm already searched the board but haven't found a solution for our problem:
During the last weeks the server was being hit by attacks looking like a dictionary attack. Someone tries to log in by ftp thousands of times. This made the server to reboot and finally destroying its mail database, which I rebuilt.
My biggest problem however is how to prevent this in the future ? Unfortunately the server is used by a nonprofit organization, so we can't spend thousands for intrusion prevention firewall hardware.
But isn't there a way to configure something like "Each IP is allowed to try logging in via ftp only X number of times per hour" for the ftp service ? I think this would help us.
I already set to close connections after one wrong password try using Server Admin. By default it was set to "3". But guess that this doesn't really help.

No, the people here are used to access the server by ftp and I can't do much. Unfortunately.
There are alternatives that are (usually) easier to use than ftp. (In my experience, most end-users aren't running a shell-level ftp command, they're running some sort of a front-end or GUI-based ftp client. Finder, perhaps. Which means most don't know they're even running ftp, in any real sense.)
Also aren't most CMS more vulnerable to DoS attacks and intrusion attempts ? It's complex software with lots of security holes.

You do realize that ftp transmits the username and password credentials in cleartext, right?
Anybody that peeves somebody else sufficiently can end up getting hit with a DoS or (worse) a DDoS or a dictionary attack. Sometimes, you don't even need to peeve somebody. I've dealt with a case of a user launching a DoS to get a tactical advantage over another user in an online game, too.
Yes, CMS installations can be vulnerable; pick wisely, and stay current. An administrator need do the same thing with a CMS as with most anything else web-facing; evaluate security carefully, track updates and security notices and generally keep a lid on the riff-raff.
But if you have a situation where you can use, for instance, certificate-based access, you can block most of the trouble and you can block typical open access.
I find http://www.aczoom.com/cms/blockhosts being an interesting thing. However it's from 2005 - is it still actual or outdated ?
I tend to either run fairly locked down with the web server and fairly defensive around, or (where applicable) use mod_security, or both.
And a typical recommendation is to use an out-board firewall, and to house your address-based defenses and blacklists out there. Having users "loose" on the firewall (and I include myself in that) means that a mistake or a configuration change on the server can potentially open up an exposure. I much prefer to have the extra step of connecting to the firewall.
A VPN server can also be housed out on a firewall (or host-based, if you're so inclined), which can allow you to run ftp and other protocols more securely.
I do block some IP subnets. But the attacks I (still) see are from all over the IPv4 address space.

Newbie learning Dreamweaver

Hello everybody - my first post! Really excited to be here.
I'm an Instructional Technology & Design graduate student who purchased Adobe CS5 Web Premium last fall, but didn't have too much time to really sit down with it until early this month. With the start of summer, I've fallen into an amazing volunteering opportunity with a small film production company who wants me to learn Dreamweaver and create a new website for them, at my own pace. I'm both excited, and terrified that I've bitten off more than I can chew (and let's face it, I probably have), but I'm going to do my very best anyway.
This isn't my very first time using Adobe products, but I'm still a beginner. I'm a fast learner, a good researcher, and very resourceful on the web. I've got my Adobe Classroom In A Book for Dreamweaver, Flash, and Photoshop. I have good design sensibilities, but it's all the codes/scripts that make me super nervous - HTML, CSS, JavaScript PHP, MySQL, and the list goes on. I have a very elementary grasp of all of them.
I know that the people I'm working for eventually want the ability to go in and manage this website on their own, without needing to call me or any future designer for every little change. So I know that we're eventually looking at installing a CMS - and since we're with Dreamhost, I've got one-click install access to Drupal and Joomla.
My first few questions: Knowing that this website will *eventually* be managed through a CMS, what are some things I should be doing or be mindful of while I'm presently designing locally in Dreamweaver? I just want to get the "heads up" now on designing for future use with a CMS, so that I don't hit a giant roadblock and have to come back and make huge changes. Also, am I correct in thinking that the designing phase (Dreamweaver) happens first, then the connecting/uploading and CMS installations (Dreamhost) all happen later? Or should this all be a simultaneous process?
And of course, any other tips or comments are very welcome. Thank you!
