CMSS 3D and

I enjoy the CMSS 3D option on my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro, and it works on all my MP3 audio in all players.
Except OGG music files, either stand-alone or within AVI files. How can I enable CMSS 3D to apply to OGG VORBIS files?Message Edited by Punistation on 04-5-2006 02:36 PM

Thanks for the info, but Winamp is just where I noticed it the most as there was constant music playing with the crackeling. I would even get the sound crackel when it played Windows audio that goes with the recycle bin or mail notifacation or just about anything that made noise as long as the "Stereo Xpand" was used in the CMSS-3D. Since moving it to Stereo Surround, everything seems fine other than this feature is not as nice as the Xpand feature. I mentioned the Audiodg.exe because I am new to Vista and this was new and it seemed to have a high amount of useage for something I didin't know what it was doing. A little research and I am smarter now and seem to understand, although I am still looking for any new info I can get. Thanks.
PS, the high CPU usage happens even when there is no sound playing...just the CMSS-3D checked and in the Stereo Xpand Mode.

  • Possible to convert existing MP3 using CMSS-3D and Crystaliz

I'm quite impressed with the way CMSS-3D and 24-bit Crystalizer can upmix lower quality recordings but I'd like the effect to be permanent on some of my existing files. What I would like to do is to resample my existing audio files much in the way super-rip handles the conversion of CD's to WMA. I have not yet found this option or even know if this is possible. I'd appreciate some pointers.
    Thanks in advanced.

    # SuperRip? allows you to rip your CDs into Xtreme Fidelity quality.
The X-Fi 24-bit Crystalizer and X-Fi CMSS-3D features allow you to "SuperRip" CDs into Xtreme Fidelity quality so you can now enjoy permanently enhanced music instead of low-quality MP3 files!
If previous suggestion didn't help then the only possible is to try, if recording your audio files while playing with these effects applied, using Creative Media Source with recording source select to "What U Hear" can do the job.

  • CMSS-3D and modes quest

I've bought a XtremeGamer and being new at it I'm wondering about that feature. If it is enabled, does it have any effect in games that have 5. surround built in? I know it produces virtual surround from stereo so it should not interfere with games that aren't stereo?
The other question is how important is it to change modes? Entertainment and game modes to be exact. How big of a difference does it make?
I've tried UT3 and it doesn't crash and works fine with OpenAL enabled which is good, I suppose.
[edit] No, it doesn't work. Random freezes and weird sound constantly.
Thanks in advance.Message Edited by Veky on 0-26-200807:24 AM

  • Dumb question on cmss and

so if I have cmss on and then actually play some 5. content does it still use cmss or is it using the true 5. format.
just wondering if I should turn cmss off when watching dvds or if it automatically gets overwritten when something is in true 5. format.

You may get a reply faster on this by emailing creatives tech support... I'd imagine they could readily provide that info for you.
Response time is usually day for your first message on an issue so it's not that bad of a wait.

  • How come I get Dolby Digital decoding, CMSS, and EAX effec

Perhaps this is related to the fact that I use either headphones or 2. speakers. The info on the Vista beta driver says I'll get no dolby digital, CMSS, etc.
But, in PowerDVD I set to SP/DIF and the Creative decoder gives me the DVD audio fine! I turn on CMSS 2 and it expands things nicely for my headphones just like on XP.
Same with the Advanced EQ EAX settings and CMSS 2 with mp3 listening with headphones. The different settings all work, and have worked even before the Vista driver came out when I was using the XP driver.
Is it just the expansion to 5. speakers that doesn't work yet? Because the headphone listening effects seem to not only work, but music and DVD's actually sound better than on XP!
Further info: Vista RC Build 5728 32-bit, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, Vista Beta Driver.
The driver install went perfectly except for some error messages on the first restart about driver access.
The major improvement for me regarding the Beta drivers over the XP ones is that Creative Soundfont Manager and Soundfont midi now works. I custom installed the Soundfont Manager, AudioHQ, and found that for some reason the DTS/Neo stuff gets installed along with System Info and Registration even when not selected. I left out everything else and did not install MediaSource Player.
Audio Console is able to control all the stuff in it. EAX Control in AudioHQ doesn't seem to work properly but Audio Console can switch between the preconfigured settings and the changes take effect fine.
Just no EQ. I tried installing it and it wouldn't run. That's how I found out the DTS stuff is installed. I noticed it when uninstalling the EQ.
The Advanced EQ in Audio Console works fine though.
Apparently the Vista Audio improvements help out the sound quality. At least for mp3 listening and DVD's, things are sounding quite a bit better than they do on 9x or XP.
Now if we could get a new driver/software package from Creative. Heck, they did it for Li've/Audigy shortly after XP came out (redesigning the whole package). Maybe they'll actually make us happy and give us a similar easy to install package that all works together.
I'm sure this won't happen until after Vista final comes out, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have this in mind.
It's just frustrating during the beta period. Especially for those that haven't gotten good (or, any) results.
It's weird. I know I've been lucky but nearly anything I've tried since starting to test Vista with my Audigy 2 ZS has mostly worked.

From what I've seen, the most of the problems with the cards are with the 64-bit drivers. My Audigy 4 also works with the XP drivers of the CD and Vista B2 drivers as much as they should. Many people don't realize that it is a beta driver, on a new OS (which is now in final development) so some things will and will not work. Also many people don't read readmes and such and still complain on things that where stated. Such as the Vista B2 drivers for the Audigy series
    Known issues:
    * Waking your computer from sleep or hibernate mode stops audio output. To resolve this, restart your computer.
    * In this download, the Effects Amount slider in EAX is disabled.
    * To configure your speakers, use Audio Console only. Configuring your speakers in "Audio Devices and Sound Themes" in Control Panel may result in loss of audio during playback in Windows Media? Player. To resolve this issue, close and reopen Windows Media Player again.
    * This download does not support
o Dolby? Digital or DTS? decoding
    o CMSS?-3D
    o recording
    o 6. speaker systems
All thats stated is pretty much what people are complaining. Though its stated what won't work, they may work due to its a general driver and not a specific driver. So some may have somethings working on one card, and not on the other.

If you are listening to stereo content like MP3's or CD's and you would like the sound to be played over your surround sound speaker system, you can enable CMSS 3D on your X-Fi card. If you are playing computer games, the X-Fi's Virtual 3D via CMSS gives a highly realistic surround sound over headphones.
It is important to remember that if you do wish to play a 5. encoded file like Dolby or DTS soundtracks, you will need to turn CMSS off. Otherwise you might not receive each discreet channel.
Please select the mode: (More information about changing the Mode).

  • How to get Surround Sound to work With Itunes 7 and Stop Skipping

A common problem for surround sound with itunes 7 appears to come from Creative sound cards. The way to fix this problem is to right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and open the EAX Console. Open the CMSS 3D tab and check the box that says Enable CMSS 3D and set both CMSS and CMSS2 to 0% in the stereo focus slider. It should work. Remember to have the volume slider in itunes at 100%.
If that doesn't work then open the quicktime preferences in the controlpanel/quicktime. Then go to the audio tab, uncheck the safe mode box. Set the rate to 64 kHz and the size to 16 bit. Then set the channels to 5.1
This should all make it work, after hours of struggling i've found these successful settings and am loving it!
For those of you who have sound skipping during transitions----
Go to the preferences of Itunes and go to the Playback tab, disable the crossfading between songs and you should play skip free!!!!

  • HELP DESPERATE CMSS 3d / EAX

HELP> DESPERATE CMSS 3d / EAX? ok the other day i had done somethign to my settings in control panel and when i went ingame (counter-strike .6) it felt like i was actually there i Could hear Everything Everyware and i could pinpoint everything. It kinda felt like i had tincans on my ears. It had a sort of Echo effect like i was in a dome or a cave it was awesome. but i had problems with the drivers and had to reinstall them because Sound kept cutting out here and there. And now i am trying to get taht same effect again and i've tried everything. CMSS is enabled on my headphones and i select EAX support on cs i have EAX effects checked in CP and crystalizer on and still no " I FEEL THERE" effect and i kinda just feels liek flat sound liek when someones shooting from acroosss the map its eitehr infront of me on the side or right next to me and i cant pinpoint anything the sound is basicly FLAT.(either left or right? or center and i have to turn ingame to pinpoint were its coming from). Help Would be greatly appreciated i've been trying to get this to work for about 2 hours straight now. And thansk for listing to my story.
EDIT: im trying to get it to sound like ENVIRONMENT FX LIKE IM THERE So im guessing EAX is not working for me?

$Re: HELP> DESPERATE CMSS 3d / EAX? I have Vista Ultimate. If you have XP then you will not see that. Sorry for the misinformation.
I guess Counter Strike is not EAX so CMSS 3D may be the best option.

  • AUDIGY 2 ZS bad CMSS in

    Hi There,
) I have the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
    accompanied with Creative Gigaworks S750
speakers (btw. they ROCK!!!). All drivers for
audigy are up to date. I have concerns
regarding the Audigy CMSS function, that
should make the mp3?s sound from ALL of the 7
speakers. The problem is that all the
speakers sound OK except the rears, that have
only about 0% of the volume the other
speakers have (the games work absolutely
properly in surround mode, in EAX for ex).
And the problem is not in the surround mixer,
all the speakers are set to 00%, the rears
too... The CMSS is set to the SECOND option
(makes the best results i think) and the
speaker configuration is set to 7.. And
there is a slider in the right part, by which
you can adjust the FADER, in other words you
can adjust how much volume the front speakers
will have and how much rear. And here is the
problem, when i move the slider down,
naturally the REAR speakers should go louder,
but they remain the same and the SIDE
speakers go louder instead, so there is NO
way to increase the volume of rear speakers
when listening the music (i use winamp 5, if
that matters). All this changes (and works
properly) only when i change the speakers set
to 5. in the THX console, but that has no
use for me (the sides are completely OFF in
that case), as i have 7. speakers and so,
naturally, i want 7. setup. And when you
dont hear the rear speakers, you simply
absolutely dont have the feel of surround
CMSS sound and thats what worries me.
So id like to ask whether you have the same
problem or you know a solution that could
possibly help me or other ppl with such
    problem. Thanks in advance!
    2) Second question, do you know a program
that uses a microphone to setup your
speakers? That program should create a sound
from each speaker and, using the input from
the microphone, set up the dB values for each
channel i think (for example make rear
speakers louder if they are too far behind).
Because as i know, the manual setup console
that creative labs uses doesnt work as it
resets the values after each restart.
    3) Maybe a little off topic, but worth
trying: Do you know a program that can
normalize your mp3 songs (it would be the
best if it had some sort of batch processing,
where you could select a directory and the
program would normalize all the mp3?s in that
directory to a certain level)? Because i want
to get rid of the well known problem: when
you copy some mp3?s to your mp3 player and
play them, some of the songs play a lot
louder, some have relati'vely normal volume
and some play a bit silent on the other
hand... and its impossible to adjust
(normalize) EACH song in some sound editor...
Really thanks in advance for ANY help!!!

The previous post is inaccurate:? CMSS includes many modes, which will work depending on the speaker configuration. This means that CMSS set?to ON on 5. speakers is not the same as CMSS on Headphones. The selection is done automatically, depending on your selected speaker configuration. For example CMSS on headphones uses HRTFs to produce the effect, while on multi-speaker systems it simply maps and pans the sound. From my experience, CMSS works?good on headphones, not only for games, but for music as well. It expands the soundfield, where on simple stereo and headphones you normally hear the sound inside your head. My opinion is, that CMSS sounds much better on headphones than on speaker systems.

  • Do you find CMSS-3D better than Dolby Prologic

Hi! as you all know both CMSS-3D and Dolby Prologic 2 upmixes stereo and mono to 5. surround sound from Mp3 and movies as well. However, I find some interesting findings lately; I know that many of you might argue with this but I believe CMSS-3D outdoes Dolby prologic II in terms of upmixing stereo and mono to 5. surround sound.
My friends and I conducted some tests in our (LOGITECH Z-680 / Z5500) speakers for both video and audio and we've noticed that the sound is louder and fuller and the separation of voices is more precise when played in CMSS-3D mode. On the otherhand, When played in Dolby prologic II even if it's in SPDIF connection sound is slightly softer and lacks some detail on it. Of course this test is ran individually meaning if Dolby Prologic is on, CMSS-3D is in off mode.
Finally, We would like to hear your opinions too because there are still a lot of factors to be added for the findings to be accurate like use of different speakers, amplifiers, maybe acoustically treated room etc.. etc..

Now, the Dolby Prologic II has on my receiver (Harman Kardon) 3 modes:
. Music - for decoding surround sound music that was PREVIOUSLY analog encoded in the stereo program.
    2. Movie - for decoding surround sound movies that where PREVIOUSLY analog encoded in the stereo program.
    3. Emulation - for upmixing the stereo programs form NORMAL stereo sources in 5..
The first two applied to a normal stereo program are not spectacular. There is some fake surround, but bass is weaker that original, surround channels are weak. The movie setting fav the voice in the center speaker.
The emulation mode is better than CMSS 3D in my opinion and is the proper one for upmixing. Right bass, good surround, better instruments separation.
Using first two as upmixing is not the intended scope of PL2. Now, the el cheapo receivers have only one of the first modes, so results may be different.

  • Software and drivers for Audigy 2 Plati

    Hello
I'm reinstalling my audio card and the installation disc has become damaged (scratch)
I went to the downloads area and got confused by all the updates and patches
where do I go to get the basic software and drivers that are the basis of what is getting updated and patched?
    Thank you
    nic

I'm in the same boat. (but have the Platinum 2 EX) I switched computers and can't find my driver installation disk.
I thought I figured out which was the correct one on the site, but when I attempted to install the latest drivers from the board, it said that is couldn't find the hardware or software necessary... something like that.
For what it's worth, the 2nd to last driver updates did seem to install without problems though; so, you may want to try that one.
At the moment, I'm only getting sound from my front 2 speakers, but this may be because I need the additional Creative software to get the CMSS working and adjust the surround balance.
Has anyone received the message I mentioned when trying to install the latest drivers?
    thx

  • Z-5500 and CMMS 3d Surround probl

Two days ago i bought Z-5500 5. Speaker system and X-Fi Fatalty.
Yesterday everything worked fine but today when i went to thx setup console and started to test surround sound i found some big problems like i didn't hear anything from my right front speaker and stuff like that but i searched some old topics about that problem and surprise suprise there was some good information and it helped.
But soon as i started to listen some bass heavy music i instantly noticed that something is wrong my subwoofer didn't sound good as it sounded before (before this problem sub gave very big boom sound but now it only gave very distant and small boom sound..eh).
Then i started to investigate the problem but of course i didn't find any problem but i found one thing, when i turn off CMSS 3d Surround sound my subwoofer goes dead and i can't even hear that small boom sound anymore..i dont think this was the case yesterday when i was fooling with options and i turned CMSS off and on many times.
what could be the problem? is it x-fi? maybe subwoofer? or something else?
What should i do.Message Edited by MakeMonroe on 08-2-2006 09:45 AMMessage Edited by MakeMonroe on 08-2-2006 09:45 AM

It's the Fatalty, I switched from the X-fi Platinum to the Fatality and my bass is not what it used to be. I also have 5. and they are the 5300e and I have problems with one of the rear speakers not giving off any sound every now and then. So the only thing I could tell you is this, get a different brand name sound card. The X-fi series works for some people and not for others. Good luck because you will need it with this card and it will give you a headache you will never forget.

  • I can not get 3D surround sound to work with my X-Fi and headhones please he

I have an X-Fi Xtrememusic soundcard and I have been unable to get possitional sound working consistantly with two sets of stereo headphones. I have the latest drivers installed and have creative audio console set to: headphones, game mode, CMSS 3D and I still have no possitional sound at all. Noises seem to come from above my head I can't tell right from left or forward from backward in other words I am completely lost as to were sounds are coming from in games. I used to be able to get possistional sound to function by changing headphones in the creative audio console to 2. or 4. speakers.
If I set the mode to 5. or higher the sounds in games (footsteps, weapons fire) would become heavily muted and hard to hear while I would gain better positional sound for other players and now this does not work at all. I have also tried disabling sync to windows control panel and changing its sound options and there have been no beneifts from doing so. In settings other then stereo headphones no sound was produced at all while others stopped sound coming from one of my headphone speakers. I am at a total loss I can not think of anything thing else to fiddle with.
My system specs: Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego, ASUS A8N-E mobo, 2GB DDR400 2.5CAS Buffalo ram, EVGA 7800GT CO, X-Fi Xtrememusic. No popping or crackling sound at least. Thank you you reading this.

Hay everyone thanks for the advise but i was finally told by one of the support personnel that I actually need the dri've bay insert that comes with the fidelity in order to get the cmss 3d to work with the headphones.
I only purchased the extreme gamer not the extreme gamer fidelity and that is why i cant get the cmss 3d to work but it still advertises on the box that you can use the cmss 3d and get that feature.? Should have done homework but i was out Christmas shopping and i went off of what the box advertised. This is very unusual for me to shop compulsi'vely. The funny thing is that everything else on the box that is advertised such as the increase of the CPU and the EAX HD features are able to be used. Im very upset about this because I particularly bought this card for the cmss 3d. I really don't know if i will ever recommend another Creative Product to any of the people i do computer repair or gamer builds for, unless this gets resolved and the only way to resolve this is to get the cmss 3D to work. By the way I did do a full reinstall even with clean boot so that isn't the problem. I'm really upset and ready to return this product to Best Buy unless this can be resolved. Any admin that comes across this please send me any ways of getting a hold of anyone that can help. Tks and hope yall had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  • How to use CMSS-

I have Headset-detection and automatic activating of headset settings activated in the Creative Driver.
I'm using a Stereo (2.0) System and - of course - my (stereo, too) headset.
When I want to use my Stereo-System, I have to:
    - Set Windows Sound to Stereo
    - Set Creative Sound to 2/2. Speakers
    - Disable CMSS-3D
Now when I want to use my Headset, I have to:
    - Set Windows Sound to 5.
    - Set Creative Sound to Headphones
    - Enable CMSS-3D
(- Set my game to 5. speaker setup)
Enabling and Disabling CMSS-3D and setting the Creative-Panel to 2/2. Speakers <-> Headphones works without problems thanks to the automatic headphone detection provided by the driver.
But automatic setting of the Windows Sound does not work:
    - When I have my headset plugged in and set Windows to 5. and remove my Headset, Windows sound is set to stereo - ok - but now when I plug my headset back in, it is NOT set to 5. again. I have to manually do this.
    - When I have my headset plugged out and set Windows to 5. and plugin my Headset, it stays 5., but it stays 5. even when I remove it again. But with my headset removed I need Windows to be set to stereo sound.
Can automatic setting of the Windows Sound Setup be done
Using the latest beta driver and a XtremeMusic on Vista 64-bit.

    Hey,
When using headphones, you want to set the effect to headphones in the audio panels yes.
The effect works by emulating a head model, and how sound affects the ears in different ways coming from different directions, because of the blocks etc encountered, like for example the water in our bodies, etc
With this in mind, the source can trick you by changing the sound in a specific way, that a sound is coming from behind around, by changing the output of the sound slightly, and delaying it, depending on direction.
Because of this, the game also has to be set to 5. mode yes, to output the different waves to the sound card to decode for headphone mode, and for the head model to work.
    2. mode in games, would only output a stereo signal to the sound card, emulating the effect you get when you listen to music, so in games, you won't get an accurate feeling of surround, but a completly emulated surround, as things behind you could come from infront, etc, as it only has left and right to work with.
    I hope this helps
