CMSS-3D in Audigy 2 ZS Notebo

Does the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook have CMSS-3D? If so... How good is it compared to the X-Fi's CMSS-3D?

It does have CMSS 3D, that includes upmixing algorythms but not so good as the X-Fi. The HRTF part, is the same with X-Fi as far as surround systems are concerned, the headphones though being inferior.

  • New Vista install of Audigy 2 ZS Notebo

On 8-2-08 I emailed tech support under category "I am installing for the first time." I've received no response. Can someone help me?
The instructions for the 7-7-08 downloaded Vista driver SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe, tell you to launch the exe and follow the on-screen instructions. I plugged in the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA (no "Found new hardware" prompt) and launched the exe. I got the Installshield unpack, then this error msg: "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before using this Setup program. Setup will exit."
Should I first install from original Win XP CD that came with my Audigy 2 ZS Notebook in June, 2006 and then "upgrade" with this new driver, or is there a Vista-specific install utility available?
Finally, what other Vista-upgraded downloads do I need apart from the driver to get basic functions from card? I have the driver, above, plus WAVESTD_PCAPP_LB_7_0_24 and DVDA_PCAPP_LB_2_00_78 -- is this sufficient?

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I check my "Suspected spam" folder (Outlook 2003/Spambayes) thoroughly every day (which is how I found this message, since "Community Mailer [[email protected]]" is not on my white list). But I've noticed no robotic reply to yank and tag. I must have missed it.
This is a pretty straightforward question, though. Should I try email help again* or, now that "Community Mailer [[email protected]]" is on my safe sender list, wait for a reply from you or someone else in the forum? Surely others have had to upgrade from XP to Vista (whether we wanted to or not. New computer usually = Vista. Although I did make as extensi've a search as I could of FAQ and forums, but simply couldn't find anything.))
*I didn't note an advisory during my original 8-2-08 email help query, but what is the whitelist entry I should put in my safe sender list to assure I don't miss any reply?
    Many thanks,
    Travis

  • How do I enable SPDIF pass through on Audigy 2 ZS Notebo

I'm trying to pass Dolby Digital from a DVD played through Cyberlink Power DVD to my home receiver. Power DVD is set to output SPDIF. It seems that the Audigy 2 ZS is doing the decoding, then passing it to my receiver as 2 channel PCM. I can't find anywhere in the documentation where I can pass through the bitstream. It's just a regular movie with a standard AC3 soundtrack. Thanks for any help.

  • Docking cable for audigy 2 zs notebo

where can i find this cable for my soundcard

An IDE cable can be used, but it's possible to plug it in backwards. If you did this with the older AUD_EXT of the SBLi've and SBAudigy, you'd short +5V straight to ground through the cable, which could cause physical damage. I <i>think</i> this is fixed with the AD_EXT pin rearrangement, but I'd favor getting a replacement cable from CL Customer Service as a replacement part (look for a toll-free number for replacement-part ordering or for non-technical questions).

  • SB Audigy Value CMSS Successfully Enabled in Vista, if you call it CMSS

I've been trying to enable CMSS (at least hear sound from all of the 4 speakers) for a long time and finally successed but in a very strange way.
Steps written below are spesific to my system (SB Audigy Value, Onboard Realtek ALC 850) but can? work similar way on others i guess. For SB Audigy Value 6 Feb. Vista drivers are installed. U can use old XP drivers as explained in the forum too.
I've been using my onboard audio device (realtek ac97) since I can't enable cmss on SB Audigy Value, so Realtek AC97 audio drivers were installed on my system. You can download Realtek AC97 audio drivers? from [url=ftp://202.65.94.22/pc/audio/623_Vista_APO.zip">ftp://202.65.94.22/pc/audio/623_Vista_APO.zip[/url]
Download and install it (first enable the device from bios if you haven't)
    After installing the drivers,
-) Open "Playback Devices/Speakers(Realtek A'97 Audio)/Properties" window and open "Enhancements" tab.
2-)There's a "Speaker Fill" effect there. U can take sound from all speakers if u enable it on Realtek AC97 device. And let's import this to our SB Audigy Value device. I say "Import" because i noticed that?"Enhancements" tab is actually a set of registry entries which points to some features from Realtek device. So,
3-) Open registry editor. Go to
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render\
Under the Render key the playback devices are listed as some numbers and letters like,
    {50a7cf0-aad0-444c-a56b-ce655444d}
4-) U have to find your own device (realtek speakers) , for instance my device is represented by {50a7cf0-aad0-444c-a56b-ce655444d}.
(This is for Realtek ALC 850 model, may be different for other models?I guess)
5-) Under {50a7cf0-aad0-444c-a56b-ce655444d} key you can see "FxProperties" Key. Rightclick on it and export to a file. Save it as RealtekCMSS.reg for instance.
6-) Then find your SB Audigy Value Speakers device. (ES/LS whatever...)
    Mine is {5ecbbccc-eca-446-aa2-a7390cf094f6}.
7-) Rightclick on it and select "Permissions"
Go to Advanced/Owner, and change the owner to administrators.
(Don't forget to select "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects)
8-) On "Permissions for {5ecbbccc-eca-446-aa2-a7390cf094f6}" window select "Administrators"
and select "Full Control" to allow. Then click OK.
9-)Close registry editor and open RealtekCMSS.reg in notepad.
    0-) Replace {50a7cf0-aad0-444c-a56b-ce655444d}
    ????to {5ecbbccc-eca-446-aa2-a7390cf094f6} using replace function.
-)Save the file as SBAudigyCMSS.reg and execute it.
    2-)Now go to
"Playback Devices/Speakers(SB Audigy)/Properties" and you'll see "Enhancements" tab.
3-)In "Enhancements" tab enable "Speaker Fill"
Open an mp3 and test your speakers. Other effects work too.
From now on you can disable your AC97 device from bios. But don't uninstall Realtek software.

The previous post is inaccurate:? CMSS includes many modes, which will work depending on the speaker configuration. This means that CMSS set?to ON on 5. speakers is not the same as CMSS on Headphones. The selection is done automatically, depending on your selected speaker configuration. For example CMSS on headphones uses HRTFs to produce the effect, while on multi-speaker systems it simply maps and pans the sound. From my experience, CMSS works?good on headphones, not only for games, but for music as well. It expands the soundfield, where on simple stereo and headphones you normally hear the sound inside your head. My opinion is, that CMSS sounds much better on headphones than on speaker systems.

  • I want to use WMP instead of MediaSource Pla

I've noticed that with the Creative MediaSource Player, which came with my Audigy 2 value, that the music quality is better than it is in Windows media player. However, I like Windows Media better than the Creative MediaSource player. Is there any way i can play music at the best quality using Windows Media?

I think that would be possible only with DDTS-00 decoder. I've read that Dolby Pro Logic II has much better 5. simulation than DTS Neo:6 does. Since there is no Dolby Pro Logic II technology on Audigy 2 ZS I use DTS Neo:6 for my music because CMSS sounds very bad, I can't enjoy in Stereo Surround 'cause it sounds very flat and lame, so Neo:6 is my last resort.
I wish that there was some kind of option to force DTS Neo:6 to simulate every sound that is being playbacked. When not using MediaSource everything is on front left and right channels.
It is said that X-Fi CMSS-3D will change the way we listen music and this picture looks similar to Dolby and DTS up-mix technology:
    <IMG src="http://www.soundblaster.com/products/x-fi/technology/images/music_cmss3dsurround.gif">
Hopefully this will finally sound like it should, CMSS an all Audigy cards is not virtual 5., only card that did good CMSS job was SB Li've! 5. and I regret selling that card.
Oh well, we'll see what will Creative make of it.

  • X-Fi support farther than we imagin

I had an Audigy 2 for a long time. I upgraded to Vista and ditched XP beacause frankly Vista rocks, and a month later I baught me a brand new X-Fi Xtreme Music. I used the Beta Drivers (then 2.0) and well, the sound was better than Audigy's Beta drivers (even though CMSS worked on audigy and didn't on X-Fi) - so I was pleased.2. made it even better, and now even games had surround sound - so again, I was pleased, and until today I was also pretty much a defender for Creative, saying 'give the dudes some credit'. Today I installed XP back on my machine, for testing purposes mostly. I installed the XP X-Fi drivers, and BAM, it was a bloody epiphany! Could my soundcard produce such a wonderful sound all this time? And all it took was Windows XP driver?Plus - and I have to say this - the Windows XP Creative software, the mixer and consoles and mode switchers.... THEY'RE BLOODY AWSOME! Far better than the ugly Audigy ones, and DEFINITELY better than the placid Audio Console on the Vista drivers. Furthermore, as I said - it sounds so much better! So on almost every aspect Vista is a major upgrade, but when it comes to Creative, it's a step backwards. The Beta drivers are CRIPPLED compared to the full-functioned XP drivers. I'm an audio enthusiastic, so now I think I won't upgrade to Vista until creative make a good sound driver for it, at least as good as XP's. If I knew this was the situation BEFORE I bought the X-Fi, I probably wouldn't have. And furthermore, I would not recommend X-Fi to anyone until it has better Vista support. And if Creative now come out with a NEW line of cards that's Vista-targeted, I'd be REALLY pissed, as I'm STILL PAYING for my X-Fi, which is supposed to be a top-of-the-line and best of it's generation audio device.

I have good hearing and 6 speakers and a subwoofer.Music sounds better on 6 speakser and subwoofer than it does on 2 speakers and no bass enhancement. I'll give you that games in Vista sound same as XP, but music? No way, dude. If I have stereo speakers I guess I could never tell the difference, but adding better subwoofer support and stereo expantion to surround sure does make music sound better, so no way music in vista sounds the same, because music in Vista is only 2.0 stereo!

  • Dtt 3500 Digital OUT doesnt work

The first, sorry for my bad english, its a long time ago
I from Germany and i got the Playworks DTT 3500. But the digital OUT doesnt work. I put the capble in the decoder but doesnt happen. The green diode " DIGITAL DIN, MULTICHANNEL " doesnt glow.
My brother got the DTT 3500 too and his diode glows. He has a normal 5.1 System. I have only the stereo mode.
Can somebody tell me, what can i do?
    Thanking you in anticipation..
    Mfg Arthur

Well, it could be, it's really hard to say.
There is a problem with a center speaker when you use CMSS 2 (with Audigy 2 cards) and have an EAX Effect turned on. Center speaker is then silent and no sound comes out of it, except when you listen to a Dolby or DTS soundtrack.
I don't know if you have a Creative sound card at all neither I think that your options are set excatly as I mentioned, so yes, it could be the speaker. The best way to find out is to replace it with another speaker (for example front left or right) and plug it into Center jack on the back of the subwoofer (or decoder). Play some music and find out if the speaker is working. Also if you have a Creative sound card run a channel test (in Surround Mixer or Speaker Settings).
Let me know what you've find out. Good luck.

  • No Center/Sub from Audigy using Klipsch Promedia 5.1 (analog) - NOT a CMSS/digital output qu

<FONT face=Garamond>I am receiving no center/sub output from my Audigy Platinum card. I have had the card installed on the same system (P4 3.0/ASUS P4800 Mobo/Win XP Pro SP2) for a couple of years with no problems. I recently began experiencing intermittent loss of my center/sub channel. Since I have not changed the connections in quite some time, I was able to rule out an improper output connection. Also, I was able to independently test the speakers themselves and the center and sub are both functioning. Additionally, I switched my Klipsch volume/channel output controller to headphone mode and ran the Creative Speaker diagnostic and I hear four channels (FR/FL/RR/RL) in the headphones (as I do with my front and rear speakers) but I <EM>do not</EM> receive any signal for the center channel (i.e., no "center channel" speech signal). Based on all of the above, I am certain that the speakers are functioning correctly (I am of course using them in analogue mode), there is no "switch" on the rear of the subwoofer for 2/2., all of my Creative and windows software are configured for 5. audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of the creative drivers and software (using Driver Cleaner Pro in Windows Safe Mode) and reinstalled from my original Audigy CD and then performed a complete Auto Update from the Soundblaster.com site. <Still no center/sub even in diagnostic test!!!!
    <FONT face=Garamond color=#ff0000 size=4>
I want to be clear: I am not confused about CMSS 5. gaming/audio issues; I believe this is purely a soundcard output issue. Despite all the grousing I read about the Creative driver series, I have been most happy with the Audigy Plat card. It has performed extremely well with the Klipsch 5. in gaming, DVD, and audio contexts for several years through numerous driver updates. I know how to configure the settings to get true 5. in any context. However, now I am completely stumped. Is there anything I have overlooked or might try so I do not have to conclude that this great card has just "crapped out" and now needs to be replaced?
    Thanks for listening.

<SPAN>Thank you! I had my digital coax connected there with an adapter, but since that can only carry ac-3 and stereo signals im better of using direct 5 chan ( i don?t watch movies on my PC... that?s what the home theater is for) Most games use EAX or some other direct sound, so ill stick with 5. direct analog. who would have thought the digital jack was also for center/sub heh.

  • Help with cmss-3d audigy 2 NX in win 7

well, i have a problem here. when i installed a fresh win 7, i installed the audigy 2 nx driver, named "USB_W7DRV_LB__0_0099", which is the newest version. at that time before i unpluged it from the usb port, it worked well with all function, cmss-3d, eax ... then i decided to unplug it from the usb port to bring it to my friend house, then back, then plug it again into the exact same usb port as before. however, from now the cmss-3d not working any more. I still can play movies with 5. sound, but the cmss-3d functione makes no effect at all. for example. before I played a song, enable the cmss, that would make sound through all speakers. now i enable/disable, no effect, sound only through front speakers.
i check the control panel/sound and got this message. even i tried to uninstall the usb sound blaster, uninstall driver and reinstall them, still got the same problem
any one can fix this issue? i dont like to reinstall the new win 7.
    tks for helping me.

  • Win7 - Audigy 2 ZS - CMSS

    Win7 - Audigy 2 ZS - CMSS7 Hello everyone,
Before you all start thinking, ohh he just registered to get what he wanted, yes your right, thats what i have done.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my computer today, before installing Windows 7 i was using XP Pro with SP3 installed.
I checked creative website for the latest drivers for my sound car (Audigy 2 ZS) and i found some drivers compatible with Windows 7 here, everything is working great, but i decided to install the EAX console so i could enable CMSS-3D, but this application isnt working, i have tried to enable XP compatible mode but no luck so far.
So the point of my post is to find out if there is a workaround this problem and to help anyone in the same position i am finding myself right now.
Thanks for the feedback in advance!

Have you checked in you?re audio console that you?re speaker settings are correct, ie 2xspeakers, headphones or what it is that ?ou use!! because if you have stereo speakers instead of headphones (if you use headphones), that could make the faulty surround you are experiancing!!?
    Hope that helped?

  • AUDIGY 2 ZS bad CMSS in

    Hi There,
) I have the Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
    accompanied with Creative Gigaworks S750
speakers (btw. they ROCK!!!). All drivers for
audigy are up to date. I have concerns
regarding the Audigy CMSS function, that
should make the mp3?s sound from ALL of the 7
speakers. The problem is that all the
speakers sound OK except the rears, that have
only about 0% of the volume the other
speakers have (the games work absolutely
properly in surround mode, in EAX for ex).
And the problem is not in the surround mixer,
all the speakers are set to 00%, the rears
too... The CMSS is set to the SECOND option
(makes the best results i think) and the
speaker configuration is set to 7.. And
there is a slider in the right part, by which
you can adjust the FADER, in other words you
can adjust how much volume the front speakers
will have and how much rear. And here is the
problem, when i move the slider down,
naturally the REAR speakers should go louder,
but they remain the same and the SIDE
speakers go louder instead, so there is NO
way to increase the volume of rear speakers
when listening the music (i use winamp 5, if
that matters). All this changes (and works
properly) only when i change the speakers set
to 5. in the THX console, but that has no
use for me (the sides are completely OFF in
that case), as i have 7. speakers and so,
naturally, i want 7. setup. And when you
dont hear the rear speakers, you simply
absolutely dont have the feel of surround
CMSS sound and thats what worries me.
So id like to ask whether you have the same
problem or you know a solution that could
possibly help me or other ppl with such
    problem. Thanks in advance!
    2) Second question, do you know a program
that uses a microphone to setup your
speakers? That program should create a sound
from each speaker and, using the input from
the microphone, set up the dB values for each
channel i think (for example make rear
speakers louder if they are too far behind).
Because as i know, the manual setup console
that creative labs uses doesnt work as it
resets the values after each restart.
    3) Maybe a little off topic, but worth
trying: Do you know a program that can
normalize your mp3 songs (it would be the
best if it had some sort of batch processing,
where you could select a directory and the
program would normalize all the mp3?s in that
directory to a certain level)? Because i want
to get rid of the well known problem: when
you copy some mp3?s to your mp3 player and
play them, some of the songs play a lot
louder, some have relati'vely normal volume
and some play a bit silent on the other
hand... and its impossible to adjust
(normalize) EACH song in some sound editor...
Really thanks in advance for ANY help!!!

The previous post is inaccurate:? CMSS includes many modes, which will work depending on the speaker configuration. This means that CMSS set?to ON on 5. speakers is not the same as CMSS on Headphones. The selection is done automatically, depending on your selected speaker configuration. • CMSS with Audigy 2 ZS on Li

    Hi,
I want to switch from my currently used Windows 2000 to a Linux-System.
Therefore support of my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard is very important for me.
On a little research I made in the web I found out, that the Audigy 2 ZS seems to be generally supported under linux.
Currently I use a Creative Gigaworks S750 soundsystem with CMSS enabled in the EAX-config.
I don't want, that I can only use 2 of the 8 speakers of my sound system under Linux.
Does anyone know here if a CMSS-like feature is also supported under Linux for my soundcard?
    TIA,
NeptunusMessage Edited by neptunus on 07-30-2006 09:4 AM

Yeah, that'll work. The control is called "Surround" instead of "CMSS", but the effect seems the same to me. (This is based on experience with an Audigy 4 Pro and an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook).
You'll also be able to dri've them in a 5. configuration when watching a DVD, if you call mplayer like so:
    mplayer -channels 6 dvd://
Note that -ao hwac3 will only result in a pure AC3 stream on the digital outputs of the card, but silence on the analog channels. I must admit that I haven't tried whether -channels 7 will result in 6. output for DTS-ES & Dolby Digital eX.
I no longer have my Audigy4 Pro but the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook is still available for testing purposes.
Should you have the Platinum or Platinum Pro model, the infrared remote is supported, as is headphone jack sense on the bay. It'll take some work to set it up properly. (Most folks on the internet do not seem to have realized that jack sense is reported over MIDI just like the remote events)
Basically the only thing on my Audigy 4 Pro that I could not dri've properly were the LEDs on the bay.

  • Vista x64, CMSS, and Distortion Problems with Audigy Z

I have an Audigy ZS 2 Plantinum, and I recently upgraded from XP x86 to Vista x64. With XP, I had no problems with the most recent drivers. I used CMSS-3D to output to all my speakers, mainly to make my music sound better when I played it (so it surrounded me, not just in front, even though its just Stereo).
Well, after trying to install the drivers for Vista x64 and having a ton of difficulties getting it to even set to 5. speakers, whenever I have CMSS turned on, sounds within programs are scratchy/distorted (such as Aol Instant Messenger). Music is fine (I use MediaMonkey), and those sound .wav's from programs play fine when opened on their own in MM or WMP. When I turn CMSS off, there is no distortion.
Does anyone have a solution for this I would like to have music played through all my speakers, but I am always using other programs when listening to music and I don't want their sounds to be distorted.

If anyone else is having similar problems: For me it seems to be an incompatibility between Creative Audigy 2 ZS drivers and Philips amBX set drivers. I've started a thread on the amBX forums : http://ambx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3797
I still need help to fix these problems.
