Yes, Creative Control Panel to stereo and Windows to 5.1/7.1. The option on Creative Control Panel enables the effect and the proper speaker layout, and the setting in Windows tell all software that the system supports interpreting surround information.
Some versions of the drivers do not allow different layouts, but the newest one works fine if I am not mistaken.
Strangely enough, when I set the sound to 7.1 in Windows, when doing the basic test in the Control Panel, I get the sound only from L and R channels. Is that correct? I guess in that case I should be able to hear them all...

  • Best settings for .mov files on a Data CD or DVD ?

    Hi,
I have a series of sequences in FCP. I want to export them as .mov files and .wmv flies to be played off a data CD or DVD. They are essentially talking heads with a few cut away shots about 5 min each.
I'm finding that when I save them as "high" quality .mov & .wmv files through "Export / Quicktime Compression", they don't play smoothly off the CD. Compression too high I guess?
Can someone recommend some settings for me? Somewhere to start and I can tweak... I'd like to keep the viewing window as large as possible. Some of the streaming settings are too small.
I have Flip4Mac installed for making the .wmv files. Suggestions there are welcome too.
    Cheers,
    P

    Nevermind.
I just found out Snow Leopard can only write HFS+ on CD and DVD for data.
I have a utility called "Burn" that is freeware and it lets me choose the filesystem - including Joliet and hybrid.

  • X-Fi CMSS-3D settings for stereo speakers

I have just gone from a 5.1 to a 2.0 speaker setup and hence I'm interested in a proper CMSS-3D setup (for 5.1 I had turned it off) for gaming (music I will still like to output without any processing)
In any case, as I understand, I should set speakers in X-Fi Control panel to 2.0/2.1.
Then, the question is - should Windows (7, in my case) be set to 2.0 or 5.1/7.1?
Also, how should I set the games? To "stereo" or to some kind of surround setup (5.1/ 7.1)?

  • Exact import settings for .mov files via MPEG Streamclip?

Ok, as I mentioned in this other thread , I'm looking to import some files recorded at an odd resolution into FCE.
Resizing my 512x288 files to 720x480 looks like it works, as well as with my 640x480 ones (don't know how it'll ultimately mess with the quality)... but I did do a test using some footage from 3 different video sources with different native resoultions, a)720x480 Sony DV Cam, b) 512x288 captured by helmet cam on Archos PMA 430, and c) 640x480 captured on Canon SD600, as well as .jpeg photos at 640x480 res.
I changed the odd sizes (Archos & Canon) to 720x480 using MPEG Streamclip, resampling the sound uncompressed at 48 khz, using the Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC compression option. Importing these files into FCE, I mixed them and the Sony standard footage, and a few pictures up on a timeline, rendered it and exported it to a QT file, then burnt a CD. It appears to have worked to my satisfaction.
My question is, before I go and convert about 60 5-10 minute clips to this 720x480 resolution for use in a full length documentary, are there any settings I should be ticking off on the MPEG Streamclip interface to maximize the likelihood that the final project will work as well as the test did?
Below are the options I selected in the test, which seemed to work:
    MPEG STREAMCLIP
    Compression: Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
    Quality: 100%
    Sound: Uncompressed Stereo 48 KHZ
    Frame Size: 720x480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Checked boxes for:
    -Frame Blending
    -Better Downscaling
    -Interlaced Scaling
    Zoom: 100%
    X/Y: 1
    Center: 0,0
    Field Dominance: Upper field first
That's about it. I tried doing similar conversions in a trial version of DIVX Converter pro, but the quality was noticibly lower than in MPEG streamclip. Maybe I just had the wrong settings in it.
Anyway, Tom Wolsky has mostly got me on the right track in the last post "...so the material needs to be a .mov QuickTime file in DV NTSC, at 29.97fps, audio should be Linear PCM with a sample rate of 48KHz, and frame resolution of 720x480 using the CCIR601 digital video aspect ratio... be warned you're scaling up a very, very heavily compressed video stream, so it's going to look less than optimal when you make it DV. I can't believe they can do 192kbps at that frame rate, when DV, which is heavily compressed as well, is 3.5MB/sec."
I have no idea if what I described in my test is heavily compressed or not, so couldn't really say how the settings I mentioned above affect Tom's latter advice.
Anyway, any help would be welcome before I encode all these files. Thanks.

I'm kind of confused because the only settings I could find on the Handycam for audio are 12 khz and 16 khz, and though I think I filmed them at 12, I've captured the footage at both within FCE... I'm not sure either have shown any probs when imported at 48 khz as yet. Not sure if that's because they are a multiple of 48 or I just got lucky. Either way, 1) does the audio bit rate the footage was captured at (12 khz) change to 16 if changed on the camcorder (or is it solely what the original was filmed in, period) prior to capture on FCE, 2) and if so or if not, how serious of a problem will it pose, if I do nothing and keep the FCE settings at the normal NTSC 48khz, in later stages of production considering there will be a lengthy timeline?

  • Language settings for movies

    Hello,
I live in Switzerland and have a Swiss Credit Card but unfortunately speak neither French or German. When I try and buy movies I can only buy them in French or German! This for me and I'm sure many other people is a bit of a pain since the movie I'd like to see is in a language I can't understand. Is there any way I can buy/rent a movie from you in English with out changing my billing details to a UK/US credit card which I don't have?
    Many thanks

    Hussein,
I tried to follow the instructions described in the mentioned docs:
    * Create additional procedure in my package:
    procedure Set_Ctx_Lang_Attr (p_Language_Code IN VARCHAR2) is
    begin
    DBMS_SESSION.SET_CONTEXT( 'USERENV', 'LANG', p_Language_Code);
    end;
    * Granting priviledges connect, resource, dba to the user.
    * Execute this new procedure in SQL Developer just before executing procedure that references view MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_VL.
But it doesn't work yet. I still get an error message indicating missing priviledges. Any idea?
Apart from that, when calling the corresponding web service later on, is it correct that language settings are handled automatically by Service Invocation Framework with Web Service Authorization? So USERENV('LANG') (verified in MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_VL) is automatically set in dependence of Web Service Authorization - right?
    Thanks,
    Carolin

  • What settings for .mov

Hello I've got a 8.7GB .mov video file here and my DVD are only 4.7GBs.
I've got about 7 videos this size that I need to burn onto DVDs. I'm curious what settings you would choose to complete this task.
If at all possible I'd like to not have to end up with two files (1 for video and 1 for sound)
    Thanks a bunch!

    Hello RcBro,
Depends. What are you going to use the file for? Archival? DVD player playback? Web streaming/download?
One thing I can answer definitively is that you will not end up with elementary stream files of any kind (separate audio/video files), for any of the above destinations anyway.
You have several options. Since you did not mention a DVD-9, I will spare you those details.
I am sure the kind people on this board will help you if you provide a little more information, such as:
    -program duration
    -final deliverable/use
The size description you gave us really tells us nothing. It might be a uncompressed trailer or a highly compressed feature. With more information, we can give you optimal advice.
    Please let us know.

  • Export compression settings for mov upload to web

When exporting from FCP for an .mov on the web, what should the compression setting be? I'd like to have a 320x240 QT mov with good quality that doesn't take forever to load. I've tried Sorrenson 3 settings, but a 20 second video clip is 38 mb. Please advise. Thanks.

In addition to what the good Captain has said already, may I also suggest dropping the frame rate to 15 or 12 frames.
Also, try using a Quality of Medium (or less) and see what kind of performance (or quality drop) you're getting.
Although it's fairly old at this point (because it was done prior to QT7), check out this KenStone.Net article for a good breakdown of the trade-offs that need to be made when exporting for the Web. Feel free to extrapolate for use with QT7...

  • Color and output settings for .mov files?

My GH3 shoots either AVCHD, Mp4, or its own variant of the .mov files, up to 60fps and 'all-intra'. Fine and dandy. The .mov files are the easiest to use as they are always just one file, no 'related' files to copy over etc. I'm trying to figure out how to do my grading in Sg, then render for final output so that I can then take that file and port for various possible uses such as dvd, standard computer use, web use ... typical modern stuff.
I've tried setting the timeline to various settings including gamma 1.8 and essentially "none", tried various setting in the render-output panels, using PhotoJpeg or H.264 as the "base" and then trying either no calibration or various choices there ... and still having troubles finding how to match the Sg monitor to the final output.
Any general or preferably specific ideas? I've searched a number of places, and ... this is something that is just mentioned in walk-throughs everywhere I've looked, if it even gets that much. Neither the Adobe movies nor Lynda-dot-com cover this ... and I've spent a couple days doing nothing but this. So ... ideas?
    Neil

Same here, I find it unbelievable this occurs and there doesn't seem te be a solution. Is it something developpers know about but can't solve so ignore all the discussions about it?
It seems so simple to me: whether the monitor is calibrated or not, whatever monitor it is, when I place the exported movie window in Quicktime, and one in VLC, next to the Speedgrade window, all on the same monitor, it all should look the same right?! Ok, so I hear Quicktime does its own calibration while playing.
I'm working on a project now which are product films, the end result is a room where everything is white (not overexposed, all details are in there), the product black and blue, plus a model (brown skin).
I'm including a few screenshots of the same shot in different players. Speedgrade, VLC, Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip. MPEG Streamclip comes closest to the Speedgrade monitor. How can I possibly sell this to my client? This is shown on laptops at presentations, beamers via laptops (probably all Windows), big screens with a built-in mediaplayer etc, and most important: online! on youtube/ vimeo.. Not operated by experts, no control over which player is used.
The films will probably almost always be shown by someone doubleclicking on the file, so it opens in the systems standard movieplayer, Quicktime or Windows Media Player. It just has to look good in this! How do I do this?
When I place the exported clip on top of my Speedgrade timeline, it does change (the whole histogram range shifts brighter).
edit: I now exported with Automatic Color Calibration ON, the results has better contrast/ resembles contrast I see in Speedgrade. Placing this clip on top of my Speedgrade timeline shows almost exactly the same. Export to ProRes4444 AutCC: Histogram expands tiny tiny bit, can't see a change in the monitor it's so small.
Export to ProRes422 AutCC: Histogram expands a bit, you can see a slight change in the monitor (whites bit brighter, black bit darker). But acceptable.
No change in the color differences though! Skin colour varies huge in different viewers, highlights have more green/ more magenta.
    speedgrade
    quicktime
    vlc
    mpeg streamclip
These screenshots look exactly the same as how the colors are in the viewer the screenshots comes from, even when I place this browser window next to it on the same (calibrated) monitor.
    Thanks for any tips..
    Peter
edit 2: The frustration gets worse. Playing the clip (prores 422 with Automatic Color calibration) in Preview (Mac, by hitting spacebar when on the file in Finder) shows EXACTLY what I see in Speedgrade monitor! It feels like the solution is out there somewhere but I can't reach it (cause no one will actually play the video in Preview).

  • Suitable share settings for movie playback

I have a MacBook Pro with dual core I7 2.66 Ghz processor and 8 GB of Ram. Operating system is OSX 10.7.5.
I processed my movie project using Final Cut Pro X. The project consists of a narrator with other media connected to the main storyline.
I had no problem processing the project. I imported optimal media and created proxy media for playback. Playback using the timeline browser works fine.
I just shared my movie using the default “Master File setting.” Playback using VLC player is halting for both video and audio, even when all other applications are closed.
The video is to be shown at a family gathering a few days from now.
    1. I shot the video with a digital camera Panasonic DMZ F150 using the built in-microphone. FCPX decided it was a stereo project and I went along, but I am not sure that much is added by this stereo setting. If I were to change to “dual mono”, the only option that FCPX seems to give, would playback performance of the new movie improve? Would sound quality be much affected?
    2. Another possibility would be to just show the movie from the timeline browser (full screen). Playback would be “proxy media quality”. Does this make sense?
    3. Are there other share settings that might improve playback performance without affecting quality much?
    4. Would using Compressor to create the movie help improve playback performance? If so, that would be a good reason to buy Compressor.
Any advice or guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks. After some experimenting, I found that export as Quicktime movie as H 263 seems to play on the G3 with good video quality.

  • Best Output Settings for movies via iMovie and Quicktime

So here's what I don't understand. I can download a 1080 movie trailer, such as Get Smart, and convert it to Apple TV standards via iTunes and have it look amazing.
    However:
When I digitize my own content, such as TV shows (broadcast TV) from my DVR, or old VHS tapes, why can't I get the EXACT same quality I get as if I were sending these videos to iDVD?
I capture in DV format using iMovie 6 (don't get me started on 08) and, in the past, when that footage is rendered onto a DVD, it's been fantastic.
However, when I take that same DV footage and convert it to Apple TV format, it does not look good at all.
I know the culprit is the FPS rate (24 vs 30), however, I am not understanding how I can take an HD trailer and still have it look great in 720p, but I can't get the same quality from digital video I capture in DV format. That just doesn't make sense to me.
I read that 24 fps will give that "movie" look, but I want a VIDEO look as an option.
I've rendered short clips using iMovie, Final Cut Express, MPEG Streamclip and Quicktime directly and none of the Apple TV output is worth it.
Now a nice, cuddly little software update that would allow Apple TV to play full .mov files would be nice, but I suspect that isn't happening.
Is there anyone who has any suggestions on taking SD DV footage and making a file that will play on my Apple TV AND still look as good as the original source video?
I have Apple Cares on the Apple TV but every time I call them for tech support, I am kept on hold upwards of 1/2 hour each time and I get frustrated and hang up.
    PLEASE HELP!
So ready to put my Apple TV on ebay and run a DVI to HDMI cable from my iMac to my LCD TV....................................

I have a couple of thoughts about your issue.
Firstly while you capture to DV, the broadcast tv shows are more likely to be in mpeg2, this itself isn't much of a problem, indeed I do exactly the same if I'm converting a movie that has interludes within it which I wish to remove (import into imovie and export the reference file to AVC in streamclip). This could however explain a little why you find your conversions to DVD (mpeg2) a little better. You also need to remember mpeg2 is lower quality than mpeg4 and even lower quality than AVC. If you watch a clip in mpeg2 it can look better than AVC because AVC is sharper and clearer and shows all the defects mpeg2 simply blurs.
I also note you might be converting the frame rate to 24 fps, don't do this it will result in jerky video. If you are doing this to retain 720p, you would be much better dropping the resolution to no more than 960 x 540 and keeping your original frame rate, never alter your frame rate. Of note here, if your frame rate is 25 fps it may be accepted by the tv at 720p.
Finally, you might need to consider what is happening to the resolution of these shows as they go through your workflow process. Your source is likely to be 720 x 480 anamorphic and your workflow is likely changing this to 640 x 480, 853 x 480 or even 1280 x 720 fixed ratio pixels, sometimes this conversion can lead to less than perfect results (another reason your DVD's might look better). Unfortunately imovie will drop these anamorphic flags and you may get better results using another application.
My results are quite acceptable and I suppose the question is why when yours aren't, but it may simply be a matter of source since I'm in a PAL region.

  • Sequence Settings for .mov clips from MPEG Streamclip

I'm converting some DVD clips (from old DVDs I created) that I exported to QT using MPEG Streamclip.
When I put them in the timeline sequence, I have to render everything.
Can I change the sequence settings to avoid this? And can I change the settings of a sequence that already has clips in it?
    Thanks.

I set MPEG Streamclip QT Export to:
    QT Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC
    Frame Size 720X480 (DV-NTSC)
    Quality 100%
    http://i44.tinypic.com/29zdhr9.png
    I set FCP sequence:
Frame size 720X480 NTSC DV (3:2)
    Compressor DV DVCPRO - NTSC
    http://i44.tinypic.com/of3h8h.png
I still need to render. And the aspect ration looks squished in a bit. Like I've set something wrong.
What am I doing wrong? How should I change the settings:

  • Field Selection error for movement type and G/L account

I am currently experiencing a field selection error between movement type 601 and G/L account 7140000.  The problem field is 'Segment'.  This field is set to required for the G/L account, but it is hidden for the movement type 601. This inconsistency causes an error when posting the goods movement. According to business requirement the field must be required for the G/L account, therefore we must make this field optional for the movement type.
However, in configuration the field segment does not appear for the movement type 601. Therefore it can not be changed to optional.
Does anyone know a workaround other than making this field optional for the G/L account because the business requirement is to have this field as required?????

  • Best Share Settings for YouTube

Hi, Could someone tell me what the best Imovie HD6 exporting settings are for uploading to YouTube? I'm trying to get the best quality image for my 8 minute video but still be able to upload under 100meg.
I've read on the YouTube site that MPEG-4 at 30fps & 640x480 is the best setting for the best quality results. But when I do that I still end up with a rather pixalated video. I've tried using the standard setting of Web Streaming (12fps, 320x240) but that's also rather pixalated.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

    Hi Steve
I don't often drop into Discussions these days as the resident experts are excellent but in the past I have had disappointing results with mpeg4 to YouTube until I used Matt's own QT setting settings.
I have and use Flash and on Sunday I tried encoding and uploading my YouTube with Flash. I used the suggested settings and it looked awful! Flash likes to encode from uncompressed footage and I have learned your footage has to be shot with Flash in mind. I then uploaded the same item using Matt's settings and it really looked passable. I could play them side by side. I am not a perfectionist and as long as my videos look OK I am happy.
Now YouTube is allowing a larger upload size I push the quality higher than Matt's and I keep the frame rate at exactly half. I use Pal so it is 12 but for NTSC it is 15. You can be pedantic and make it exactly half the NTSC frame rate which number escapes me at the moment as I never use it. This is best.
Remember to deinterlace but you know that.
So here they are - credit and thanks to Matt.
'I have found that if you are using "special effects" on your movies they do not reflect very well on you tube- If you make a clean movie with no effects than that comes out better. I use Imovie to Qtime export to my own settings for "movie" or .mov. the settings are:
    Compression: H.264
Frame Rate: 12 fps(smaller file size)
    Key Frame: AUTO
Quality: Medium ( again, smaller file size)
    Encoding: Best Quality
    Data Rate: AUTO
    Size: 320x240
Sound ACC-48 khz( you can change this , BUT my Videos are mostly MUSIC- so this sounds better, If your is only the true sound of what you have recorded, like people talking etc- then you can change to lower settings, thus giving you a smaller file size)
I have found that the key to you tube is
    1) if you use certain GEE THREE or any other effects, NOT ALL MIND YOU- that your movie will look crapy.
    2) if you use higher settings than i have stated here you file will be large(hopefully under YOUTUBES 100 mb limit), BUT if your file is very large the movie will stutter, or stop during playback- and other viewers on YOUTUBE probably will move on to the next video of choice and thus all your hard work will go unseen.
So i use these settings keep the effects to a minimum and they seem to work fine-hope this helps any one,
    matt
Lastly I do use effects sometimes so I make a clean copy of my iMovie, that is I export it to QT then I import it back into a new iMovie project so it is just one clip. This can fool YouTube. I made a YouTube using a slideshow from iPhoto
and I used random transitions expecting the worst and to my surprise it looked quite good.
If you want to look you can go see DIYTVMovies My Secret Garden
    http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ_9Hhg-lRk
which is the director's commentary to show how I did it. Now again this is not Hollywood quality but for a beginner it is acceptable. I like the sound quality iMovie gives. The other version for my friends had sound edited on Final Cut which was compressed and not as good.
If anyone has better settings let me know.

  • How to save the settings (for Audigy 2

    Hi,
Is it possible to save the setting for "EAX console", "Surround Mixer" and "Speaker Settings" and to load them fast with Audigy 2 ZS? I'm using different settings for movie watching (Bass redirection OFF, EAX effects off, CMMS surround OFF etc.) and for music listening (Bass redirection ON, EAX effects ON, CMMS surrounf ON, Graphic Equalizer ON etc.) and each time I want to change them, I have to start 3-4 applications. I remember for the good old SB Li've! 5. there were an application which allowed to remember specific settings for any started application... Is there any way to make my life easier with Audigy 2 ZS?

    Hi
for display of cost in maintenance order you have to customize in IMG>PM/CS>Maintenance and service processing>Basic setting>Settings for display for cost
Here you have to define the value categories and assign cost element to them ,and you have to define the default values value category in maintenance order
Also you have to assign the costing variant for plan and actual cost in T code OIOF
