CMSS with Audigy 2 ZS on Li

Hi,
I want to switch from my currently used Windows 2000 to a Linux-System.
Therefore support of my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard is very important for me.
On a little research I made in the web I found out, that the Audigy 2 ZS seems to be generally supported under linux.
Currently I use a Creative Gigaworks S750 soundsystem with CMSS enabled in the EAX-config.
I don't want, that I can only use 2 of the 8 speakers of my sound system under Linux.
Does anyone know here if a CMSS-like feature is also supported under Linux for my soundcard?
TIA,

Yeah, that'll work. The control is called "Surround" instead of "CMSS", but the effect seems the same to me. (This is based on experience with an Audigy 4 Pro and an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook).
You'll also be able to dri've them in a 5. configuration when watching a DVD, if you call mplayer like so:
mplayer -channels 6 dvd://
Note that -ao hwac3 will only result in a pure AC3 stream on the digital outputs of the card, but silence on the analog channels. I must admit that I haven't tried whether -channels 7 will result in 6. output for DTS-ES & Dolby Digital eX.
I no longer have my Audigy4 Pro but the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook is still available for testing purposes.
Should you have the Platinum or Platinum Pro model, the infrared remote is supported, as is headphone jack sense on the bay. It'll take some work to set it up properly. (Most folks on the internet do not seem to have realized that jack sense is reported over MIDI just like the remote events)
Basically the only thing on my Audigy 4 Pro that I could not dri've properly were the LEDs on the bay.

  • Just need 1/8 inch to RCA for digital coax out with audigy se right?

DJust need /8 inch to RCA for digital coax out with audigy se right? Hi there,
I need a low profile soundcard that can deli'ver digital 5. through either coax or optical, looks like the audigy se will do just that. I have a yamaha receiver with DTS, DD, etc with a coax input that I want to use. I want to confirm that all I really need is a cable that has an /8 inch plug for the blue digital out on the soundcard with an RCA end for my receiver.... sounds simple enough to me but I want to make sure. I know I can get the digital I/O module but don't see a point if I just need the cable I mentioned.
    Thanks.

Let's take Battlefield 242 for example. The game will not allow me to specify hardware sound.
That would be because that card DOES NOT have any hardware on it, it is a totally software dri'ven card.
And yes your old Li've card is much better than the Audigy SE. The Audigy SE is nothing more than a re-named SB Li've 24 bit, which is also a software based card (same applies to the X-Fi Xtreme Audio, a POS card that should have never been given the X-Fi name).

  • Frustrated with Audigy 2zs drivers

"Frustrated with Audigy 2zs drivers\ Hi,
I really need some help with drivers for my Aud 2 ZS Plant card as i am very frustrated. A couple of months ago I reformatted my HD and subsequently re-installed all my drivers. When I was ready to install my soundcard drivers\software I could not find my installization disc as I moved to a new place 6 months ago and I guess they got lost in the unpacking. Since then I have tried to find drivers for my card and in the process have?used 3rd party drivers ie. KX, PAX, and daniel_k but could not get them working or they (KX) were hard to understand. Anyway, I am to the point now that I just want to have sound with functioning software where I can get back to doing some hobbyist home recording as I did before with orginal drivers. In saying that, can anyone please point me in the direction to find the most up to date drivers for my card? Iam running WIN XP Pro sp3. I am to the point now that I want to take the card and front dri've bay out of my system, chuck it, and go and buy a $20.00 generic card.
    Help would be much appreciated.

If you want the latest drivers I'd use Dan K's if I were. None of the old software works with the latest drivers so you're kinda stuffed. Dan K's are based on the 2.8.000 drivers which are the second to latest drivers available. Don't use the 2.8.00 drivers - they cause more problems than they solve.
Before installing any more drivers/software it might be an idea to make sure there's nothing left of any previous drivers you've tried to install. Could be what's causing the problems.
This is how I remove my drivers. May seam a little convoluted but in your case it may prove useful to be as thorough as possible.
You'll need Driver Sweeper, and CCleaner, 7Zip and Dan K's Audigy Support Pack 2.0 (if you don't already have them).
Download these and install; Driver Sweeper, CCleaner and 7Zip.
Now you need to extract all the files out of Dan K's support pack, which should be an *.exe file. You need what's inside that *.exe file. After installing 7Zip, you should see a new 7Zip options menu when you right click on files or folders?
Click on it and then select Extract files to Audigy Support Pack... or something similar. Don't just select Extract files.
Inside the new folder that should have appeared after 7Zip extracted everything, you'll see another folder named Drivers.
Copy this folder to your desktop.
Now reboot and start Windows in safe mode.
Click Start then Run and type cmd.exe to open a command prompt, then type (minus quotes):
    " takeown /f C:\Windows\*.cdf " and hit enter, then:
" cacls C:\Windows\*.cdf /G *insert your logon name*:F " and select Y and hit enter again.
You can now close down that command prompt window.
Go in to the Drivers folder you copied to your desktop and run Setup.exe and this should appear:
    <img border="0" src="http://theliability.googlepages.com/creative_uninstaller.png">
Select the same options as above and click OK and let it do it's thing - when it says reboot your PC click No or Cancel.
Now run Driver Sweeper and do a scan for all Creative drivers then click Clean.
Don't worry if it says things like file doesn't exist or some other error msg. It'll still get a few things.
No load up Add or Remove Programs (personally I prefer Revo Uninstaller) and remove anything related to Creative.
Finally load CCleaner and scan/clean your registery.
Reboot back in to normal Windows.
And that's it. A tedious process I know, but it's the only way I've found of properly stripping CLs drivers out.
You'll know if it's worked because when you now go and install Dan K's pack the installer should just run straight through. When there's still driver remnants the installer always says it's found previous drivers and need to uninstall them and reboot.
tbh I recommend running through this process regardless of wether or not your choose to stick with the old drivers or go with the newer ones.
Creative's drivers are infamous i'm afraid and at least after this your PC should be relati'vely clear or remnants.

  • Replace Soundblaster 5.1 with Audigy 2

I am going to replace the Soudblaster Li've 5. that shipped with my Dell last year with Audigy 2 ZS. Will my Creative Inspire 5200 speakers work ok? Will the woofer volume adjust work? The woofer volume adjust does not work for the Dell OEM product which for some music is just awfull because the woofer is far too loud?

    HJ,
It should work just fine with the 5200's and in 5. mode you will have the option to adjust the bass volume (however the bass boost will be grayed out)

  • Problem with Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Input

0Problem with Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Input? Hey everyone,
Here's the background of the issue. I got a PS3 over the holidays for literally free
I had my computer out in a testbed style. Plugged the PS3 into my monitor HDMI --> DVI cable, and Red/White into the front RCA jacks of the Front Panel (Aux 2). As soon as I plugged in the cable, I got sound out of my speakers and was able to enjoy my PS3 in 720p
I put all of the components back into the case after cutting exhause and intake fan holes. I brought everything back to school, fired up the PC and PS3. Lo and behold, there is no more sound from the PS3. I know that PS3s are temperamental in moving, but I hooked the audio up to my TV and the sound came out just fine. The AD Ext cable looks like it's secure and in place. When I hooked up a mic and headphones to the front, they worked fine as well. However it seems to be just the AUX 2 RCA inputs that dont work anymore. Any ideas about how to fix this issue? Is there a function I have to turn on now in the software to allow sound to pass through? Any information would be wonderful!? I'm going to try an optical cable in the near future, just need to borrow one from a friend =/

    Problem Solved.
I had moved my cards around for better airflow. I moved the SB Audigy card from the bottom PCI slot to the top. Thinking this might be the problem, I moved the video card back to the top slot PCI-E and the sound card to the bottom PCI slot. Sound is now working again. Thanks for the thread views?:smileytongue:
Think that when I have to buy Win 7 for real if the problem would still persist if I moved the card again? Or is this a hardware limitation?

  • Creative Digital I/O Module with Audigy 2 ZS Problems

5Creative Digital I/O Module with Audigy 2 ZS Problems? Hello - new to the forums, but a long time Soundblaster user.
I have read pkc's Digital Connections FAQ, but i am still struggling with my digital setup:
I have had an Audigy 2 ZS for some time. I have recently bought a surround sound amp and want to connect my PC to the amp digitally using the Audigy 2 ZS. So i have bought the Creative Digital I/O Module which understand is perfect for connecting the two, but i cannot get any output from it.
Firstly, the Creative Digital I/O Module is part no. SB0002 and has a 4 pole mini jack. I have connected it to the digital output of the Audigy. I have then connected the i/o module to the amp using digital coax cable. The amp receives no signal from the module and also i cannot see any light from the module's optical output. What do i need to do to get the i.o module working with the Audigy and sound to the amp?
Secondly, i have read in pjc's post that the digital output can act as a digital coax, but how do connect a 4-pole mini jack output to a single phono jack for the digital coax?
Thanks in advance for any advice here.

  • Recording Options with Audigy

Hello:?I have recently purchased and installed an Audigy SE card into a PC running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition.
Does this card support a "What You Hear"/ "Stereo Mix" recording option?.
?I?purchased the card?as an?upgrade from my on-board sound processor, as the Vista drivers available for it'sdo not work properly. I previously used my system under Windows XP Pro to broadcast as an internet DJ and this option is necessary for me to contine. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank You.

I recently upgraded my XP system with Audigy SE to Vista and found that I could no longer record from the stereo mix. Here's what I did to fix it.
I went to Control Panel, Sounds, and under the Recording tab I right clicked and selected Show Disabled Devices. "What U Hear" showed up, but even after enabling it, it still said "Not Available". So I went to Creative and downloaded the latest software/driver pack for Vista 32-bit (dated 9 Jul 07) and installed it. After installing and rebooting, I went to Control Panel/Sounds again and tried to find "What U Hear". It was not there at all, even after telling Vista to show all disabled devices. No stereo mix, no nothing. Nice update.
So I kept the new Audigy software installed but I rolled back the driver to the original Vista driver, which was dated Feb 2007. I went back to Control Panel/Sounds and lo and behold, "What U Hear" was back. However, it was still labeled as "not available". So now I did another reboot.
I went back to Control Panel/Sounds and looked for "What U Hear", and this time it was available. So I selected it to be default and loaded up Sony SoundForge to give it a test, and it worked. I could record from the stereo mix by selecting "What U Hear" in Soundforge as my recording device.
So, in summary, the July 07 Creative update for Audigy SE in Vista 32-bit seems to be missing this key capability, for whatever reason. However, the built-in Vista driver for Audigy dated Feb 2007 does allow it. By coincidence, Creative also has a Feb 2007 driver update listed in their downloads -- is this the same driver supplied by Vista? I don't know. Maybe it is, but now that I have things working, I'm not going to mess with it to try and find out.
So my advice -- get the latest software pack from Creative but use the February 2007 Vista driver, or try the Creative February driver.

  • Decode AC3 Dolby with Audigy ZS or Inspire 5500 digita

Hello, i need your advice, I have Sound Blaster Audigy ZS and Inspire 5500 Digital,
which best to Decode AC3 (6 Channels)
    decode with Audigy or Inspire?
    Thanks

    arturjose,
You should have the sound card bypass the AC3 signal to the speaker for decoding. Remember to also have the DVD software setup to SPDIF bypass the AC3 signal.

  • Subwoofer Problem with Audigy Pla

I recently bought a Speedlink Medusa 5. Headset, which is connected to the soundcard through 3 analog wires. Now the front- /rear- and centerspeaker are working fine, but I can't seem to get the subwoofer working with _any_ driver supplied by Creative for the Soundblaster Audigy Player. The headset itself should be ok, as it works perfectly (=> including subwoofer) with the kX drivers (after enabling "Use Subwoofer Output" and "Bass Redirection") and on the fly with the onboard soundcard of my mobo (CMI976).
I tried to enable "Bass Redirection" in the (latest) Surround Mixer app, but the setting doesn't seem to have any effect on the functionality of the subwoofer. The only effect I got was less bass when I set the frequency higher, so at least the splitting works.
Using kX is not an option, because it doesn't support EAX and AC3 decoding is still buggy. With the onboard solution I can't connect my TV card, plus it eats a lot of cpu time.
Now, do I have to buy a new soundcard for the functionality I paid about 75. for years ago?

i MUST REMOVE THE AUDIGY 4 to play the games and sent to third world as present...
    Anyone can support me?
I think it's the TRUST 800 DV PCI KIT fireware 400/800 that goes in conflict with Audigy..MAYBE (but i need it for hd fw)? Anyhelp?

  • Creative Entertainment Center works with Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro

Creative doesnt seem to hav plans to release Entertainment center for Audigy 2 ZS. But theres a way to install and use Entertainment Center with AUDIGY 2 ZS Platinum/Pro. I first installed the Audigy 4 Modded PAX drivers for Audigy2 ZS with all softwares(i downloaded Audigy 4 ISO) , Then i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled Audigy 2 ZS drivers , and again installed Entertainment Center, Guess what now Audigy 4 doesnt prompt me that i dont have the required HARD WARE before installation starts, and i can install ny Audigy 4 software(nothing much new though , only Entertainment center and Smart Recorder). and i am now enjoying ENTERTAINMENT CENTER with my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and with Audigy 2 drivers!!!!.
I think its not proper on part of CREATIVE not to release Ent. Center for Audigy 2, as the IO box and remote control of Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 are the same( RM-500 remote). so wats the point in keeping Ent. Center just for Audigy 4 and Up?

Just set your software DVD player to SPDIF output and make sure the A2ZS is set for SPIDF decode.

  • Pops sounds when Decoding AC3 with audigy

Hi, i want to make audigy zs decode ac3, doing the following:
in powerdvd 6 , i set to spdif out, and in audigy "use internal decoder" is enabled, it works fine with dts decoding, but with ac3 there's pops sounds during loud scenes, if i enable "dynamic range compress" in AudioHQ, the pops sounds disapears but the dynamic range is gone too, something i don't want because i really want to enjoy that sound.
Is there a way to listen the wide range sound of AC3, i mean with dynamic range enable without the pops sounds that produce when decoding ac3 with audigy zs?
someone has tried this or there's no chance to do it at all!

Well, a think all of you are not telling the truth, because you dont' even test it in the scene i mention(Lord of thr rings)
For you to know, there's movies that there's no pops sounds at all, like the original star wars trilogy, shrek , no problem, but in LOTR trilgy there's a problem.
Now for BigBen he said something different in:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=3043&quer y.id=4735#M3043
In that forum, i had and old computer Pentium III 500 MGHZ, that didnt,t work anything, Dvd audio, dts, ac3 decoding. nothing.
    I tried all and nothing.
finally i gave in, and bought another cpu because maybe it was an issue of the mother card,
i bought a Compaq DeskPro En(Pentium III 000MGHZ). now all the problems i had before are gone, except for the pops sounds in Ac3 decoding in LOUD SCENES, now this is common problem for most users, now if you say you don't have, well try lord of the rings Trilogy, Return of the king!

  • Help with cmss-3d audigy 2 NX in win 7

well, i have a problem here. when i installed a fresh win 7, i installed the audigy 2 nx driver, named "USB_W7DRV_LB__0_0099", which is the newest version. at that time before i unpluged it from the usb port, it worked well with all function, cmss-3d, eax ... then i decided to unplug it from the usb port to bring it to my friend house, then back, then plug it again into the exact same usb port as before. however, from now the cmss-3d not working any more. I still can play movies with 5. sound, but the cmss-3d functione makes no effect at all. for example. before I played a song, enable the cmss, that would make sound through all speakers. now i enable/disable, no effect, sound only through front speakers.
i check the control panel/sound and got this message. even i tried to uninstall the usb sound blaster, uninstall driver and reinstall them, still got the same problem
any one can fix this issue? i dont like to reinstall the new win 7.

  • Vista x64, CMSS, and Distortion Problems with Audigy Z

I have an Audigy ZS 2 Plantinum, and I recently upgraded from XP x86 to Vista x64. With XP, I had no problems with the most recent drivers. I used CMSS-3D to output to all my speakers, mainly to make my music sound better when I played it (so it surrounded me, not just in front, even though its just Stereo).
Well, after trying to install the drivers for Vista x64 and having a ton of difficulties getting it to even set to 5. speakers, whenever I have CMSS turned on, sounds within programs are scratchy/distorted (such as Aol Instant Messenger). Music is fine (I use MediaMonkey), and those sound .wav's from programs play fine when opened on their own in MM or WMP. When I turn CMSS off, there is no distortion.
Does anyone have a solution for this I would like to have music played through all my speakers, but I am always using other programs when listening to music and I don't want their sounds to be distorted.

If anyone else is having similar problems: For me it seems to be an incompatibility between Creative Audigy 2 ZS drivers and Philips amBX set drivers. I've started a thread on the amBX forums : http://ambx.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3797
I still need help to fix these problems.
