CMYK and RGB with a laser printer

I'm using ID CS2 and a Konica Minolta bizhub C353P printer.
I was supplied with a pdf artwork file by a customer. I believe it's CMYK, but am not sure, as Document Properties in Acrobat doesn't give that information. Firstly, is there a simple way of checking whether a pdf file is CMYK or RGB?
I placed the pdf artwork into ID and printed the indd file, but found that the colours were not quite correct. So I imported the original pdf file into Photoshop and changed it from CMYK to RGB. I then saved it as a tiff file and placed it back in the indd file. The colours now printed correctly. Next question - is there a better way of converting a pdf file from CMYK to RGB and vice versa?
When I printed the indd file the print driver would only allow me to print in Composite RGB - Composite CMYK and all the other options were greyed out. However, if I printed to Acrobat, Composite CMYK and the other options were available. Now as I'm printing to a CMYK laser printer, I would have thought it better to print in Composite CMYK. Am I correct?
And can anyone suggest why the printer driver won't allow it?

here are some useful operations by Professional Acrobat 7:
How to analyze image color spaces in a PDF:
Tools > Print Production > Preflight > Digital Press (Color) >
Execute > Overview > Images.
How to convert images in a PDF (here DeviceCMYK to sRGB):
Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors > Device CMYK:
Convert > Profile > sRGB > Embed as Output Profile > Execute
IMO there is no choice for an input CMYK profile.
I don't know whether embedded profiles (not to be expected
for CMYK) or a global Output Intent are honoured.
How to edit images without loading the whole PDF in
Photoshop (which would rasterize everything):
Tools > Advanced Editing > TouchUp Object Tool > Right Mouse
Click on Image > Edit Image > (Opens Image in PhS) >
Edit here > Save > Close (Shows PDF with modified Image) >
Save As by new name.

  • Problems with hp laser printing in leopard- wired and wireless

Printing problems in Leopard are slowly eating away at my last nerve!
Here's the background: I have a Macbook Pro 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB ram, running 10.5.2. Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I've been having printing problems, both wired and wireless. I have an HP Laserjet 1160, which is a wonderfully reliable printer- I've had it since 2005 and have never had a problem.
When I installed Leopard, I began getting a popup message after starting up my computer and logging in. The message has a lighthouse icon on it and reads:
"Popup Error: Failed to listen for incoming Popup jobs. You will not be able to use Popup printing for the duration of this session. Please report this incident to a system administrator."
(for the record, I only have one computer, it's not on any system, and I have the administrator account)
Here are the two problems I have:
-First, wired printing is spotty. Half of the time, when I connect the USB cable and click print, nothing prints. Usually, if I unplug the cable and plug it into the other USB port, then printing works. This is in spite of the fact that the computer recognizes that the printer is there- I can delete then re-add the printer to my printer list and still nothing.
-Second, wireless printing does not work at all. Again, the printer is recognized when plugged in to either the time capsule or the airport express, and I can add the printer, but printing doesn't work: the job is sent to the print queue, but the queue stalls on the "connecting to printer" phase.
This problem is a huge pain, and I have no idea how to solve it. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for posting this problem Cathjock. I have had the same issue with a NEC Superscript 1400. Thinking it wast he printer, which is getting up there in age, I went out and purchased a new HP P1505 to no avail. I have been researching this for a few days now and think that all of this is related to a user permission in CUPS. I have de-installed, re-installed, re-booted etc as prescribed and got three pages hours after the fact via my Airport Express connected new printer. Generally, however, nothing comes out immediately as was the case in the past either on Airport Express or via USB cable. I am stumped and am starting to get worried.
I can't print invoices for my business and am considering firing up my old Windows machine if you can believe it !
Seriously, Apple has created a monstrous situation with all of htese printing issues and nothing is apparently being done, nothing that I can find in any of the discussion forums at this time.
My last option is to re-install 10.5 with an archive and install as I really cannot afford to start from scratch.
Now if you look at this forum, there are 242,847 views logged with 2,514 questions and 13,848 messages.
This should mean something for Apple as many people need help and are getting really really ******-off.
So pleeeeaaaaase Apple. respond and offer a fix for this problem that is plaguing a ton of people.

  • Help with HP Laser Printer 1200se

    HP Support Line,
Really need your assistance.  I have tried both contacting HP by phone (told they no longer support our printer via phone help), the tech told me that I needed to contact HP by e-mail for assistance.   I then sent an e-mail for assistance and got that reply today, the reply is as follows  "Randall, unfortunately, HP does not offer support via e-mail for your product.  However many resources are available on the HP web site that may provide the answer to your inquiry.  Support is also available via telephone.  A list of technical support numbers can be round at the following URL........."  The phone numbers listed are the ones I called and the ones that told me I needed to contact the e-mail support for help.
So here I am looking for your help with my issue.
We just bought a new HP Pavillion Slimline Desk Top PC (as our 6 year old HP Pavillion PC died on us).  We have 2 HP printers, one (an all-in-one type printer, used maily for copying and printing color, when needed) is connected and it is working fine with the exception of the scanning option (not supported by Windows 7).  However we use our Laser Printer for all of our regular prining needs.  This is the HP LaserPrinter 1200se, which is about 6 years old but works really well.  For this printer we currently only have a parallel connection type cord and there is not a parallel port on the Slimline HP PC.  The printer also has the option to connedt a USB cable (we do not currently have this type of cable).
We posed the following two questions:
    1.  Is the Laser Jet 1200se compatible with Windows 7?
and if this is the case
    2.  Can we purchase either a) a USC connection cord (generic or do we need a printer specific cord)? or b) is there there a printer cable converter adapater to attach to our parallel cable to convert to a USB connection?
We do not want to purchase the USB cable if Windows 7 will not accept the connection, or if doing this will harm the PC.
We really would appreciate any assitance that you might give us.
    Thank you,
    Randy and Leslie Gibson

Sorry, both cannot be enabled by design.  That said, devices on a network do not care how others are connected.  You can print from a wireless connection to a wired (Ethernet) printer and v/v.

  • CMYK and RGB Issues between PS and AI

I also posted this in the AI forum, not sure if people look at both. If this is taboo, sorry.
    Greetings
I am using AI and PS CS5.
I have an eps in AI that is set for RGB. The colors are how I want them.
When I open the same eps in PS, PS thinks the file is CMYK. Whether I open the file as CMYK and convert to RGB or open at RGB, the colors shift. If I leave the file as CMYK, the colors are shifted.
I can confirm that when I convert the file in AI from RGB to CMYK, I can see the color shift. If I leave the file as RGB in AI, it looks how I want.
I cannot get the file to show in PS as the same color as what I see in AI.
I have confirmed that both AI and PS have color settings set to NA GP2.
I am hoping this is something simple and someone can help me out.
    I hope this helps explain:
    http://img170.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=576032284_colorshift_122_52 4lo.jpg
Basically, the file with AI in RGB mode looks how I want. The file with AI in CMYK mode looks different.
In PS, both RGB and CMYK color mode are the same as CMYK in AI.
I am not sure why PS does not show the RGB colors like AI does.
PS CS5 and AI CS5 are synched:
    http://img157.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=586919644_colorsync_122_199 lo.jpg
I think this is a PS issue? Thanks in advance.

File -> Document Color Mode -> RGB is the default when the EPS is opened in AI. This displays what I want.
When the EPS is opened in PS, the default is CMYK. Whether I change it to RGB there or import as CMYK and then change the mode to RGB, the colors do not change. In PS, they look like what I see when in AI when the EPS is set to CMYK, if do this: File -> Document Color Mode -> CMYK.
So in PS, whether I have mode set to RGB or CMYK, it looks the same.
And in AI, based on the setting Document Color Mode, I can see the difference.
How do I get what I see in AI in RGB mode to appear in the same EPS in PS?
    Thanks

  • Delay in printing with HP laser printer query

I use a I Mac as well as a Ipad and Mac Air.  My printer is a HP 1525nw laser printer.  My network is via a Time Capsule Router/back up.  When I print, there is a long delay before the printer starts.  The Imac printer app says it is printing, but it doesn't seem to be reaching the printer. My printer is connected to the Time capsule with a USB cable, but my computers are all connected via my Airport wireless.   When I check an hour or so later, the printing is usually finished.  Why the delay?  Any help from the Apple nation would be appreciated.

  • Help with Brother Laser Print/Fax

My printer is mac compatible. I just got the new airport extreme and would like to use my brother laser print/fax via usb. it's not working and on top of it my print utilities application is missing. any advice? thx

Just in case you missed it - double check to make sure your Brother does not have an ethernet (CAT5) jack on the back.
I have 4 Brother printers or AIO units, and they all have that connection, and are all Bonjour compatible. Even my cheapie $99 AIO color inkjet.
If you do have the jack, just plug in to the AEBS with an ethernet cable, and you may even find that it supports "scan or fax over network", in addition to being able to do all the other advanced functions.

  • CMYK and RGB in one document

I do not understand why the RGB and CMYK dokument still needs to be separate?
So at the end decide how and in what format should I save my output result.
We have the era of CMS, and Illustrator has not changed thinking!???
Now every time If I create a style guide for different media I need to save separate documents, and make changes the tem, and when I want to change jet mess sync.
Please explain if I think impractically.
    Eg:
The same applies to the choice of mixing color for the object.
If select object the color mixing of RGB, HSL, WEB etc ... let the mixture is automatically called when re-select the object.
If I wanted to replace the selected objects to a particular model of CMYK, RGB etc then I can select it and choose options from a palette of CMYK, RGB etc, will automatically convert on a mixing model.
Just add an option in isolates by RGB, CMYK etc. in my document if I necessarily want to isolate the CMYK or RGB object in my composition.
As it is well make in the preview window in "Recolor " function under the magnifying glass icon.
    (sorry for poor English)

I support your point of view, Illustrator development team need to work to update Illustrator's Color Management System, that's why color profiles are.
We need to create color in Lab, RGB or CMYK in the same document.

We called the internet company and from their end everything was working.
Your ISP can only determine that their equipment is responding to ping requests. They can determine nothing about your equipment or if theirs is communicating with it.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable that comes from their equipment and connect it directly to a computer instead of the Extreme. If you can load web pages, it means your Internet connection is working. If not, it's not.
Is your ISP supplying cable Internet? Sometimes it is necessary to reset your ISP's connection by disconnecting their coaxial cable that connects to their modem. Literally unscrew it and leave it detached for a minute or so, then screw it back in again and power up the modem. They call this a "full reset". I don't know how it differs from simply powering down the modem, but I have confirmed that on rare occasions doing this will reset a recalcitrant connection.
... however the internet bars are present on the desktop and also indicated I was connected to the internet.
The Wi-Fi icon "bars" show that a connection to a wireless network has been established. It conveys no information about an Internet connection that lies beyond your local network. Option-click that menu and select "Open Wireless Diagnostics..." Authenticate with your Admin name and password and click the Continue button. Some useful diagnostic information and suggestions will result.

Did you restart after adding the drivers?

  • Print with laser printer

    Hi everyone,
I'm developing an application that should print its JTexPane with 'Arial Unicode' font. I use a styled document. When I print with a deskjet, there isno problem ,my text is perfectly rendered.
But, when I print with the laser printer, the text is always in bold. This printer doesn't accept 'Arial Unicode' in its properties. I have to be able to print unicode font (chinese, ...) and the printer doesn't have any unicode font in its settings...
Is there anything I can do ?
    Thank you.
    Pascal

I am also experiencing similar problems. I am trying to print a JEditorPane rendered HTML-document. On screen it looks good, but when sending it to either a PDFCreator or printer, bold and italic text looks really wierd. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
I can post some code or the PDF file if someone wants to see it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can a color laser printer be adjusted to match InDesign CS6 colors?

I'm trying to print through a laser printer (color Brother HL-4570CDW) but it muddies all the colors and darkens them.
The inkjet Epson does ok, but I'd like to save ink, if possible.  Is there a way to adjust the way the printer reads the colors?
I'm not totally experienced in color profiles and such.  I tried both CMYK and RGB, but still it looks awful.  It may be the printer, but is there anything else I can do?
Thanks, I know this is a stupid question!

The printer in question, the Brother HL-4570CDW, is a fairly inexpensive SOHO laser printer typically used to print “office” documents. As such, it doesn't offer direct options either on the front panel or via the driver to match typical commercial print conditions such as SWOP. Most content sent to such a device is sent as RGB from printer drivers.
(For your convenience, I have attached a copy of both the specification sheet and the manual for this device!)
    Some ideas:
    (1)  Don't expect reasonable CMYK colors if you are using what Brother describes as the “Windows(r) printer driver (the most suitable printer driver for this product)” and what is apparently installed by default (see page 26 of manual). It invokes an emulation of HP PCL5C, pure RGB, which is a real problem from InDesign. Install their “BR-Script printer driver” and turn off the option for RGB vivid color and try that instead. BR-Script is Brother's emulation of PostScript 3 - definitely not Adobe PostScript 3, but it possibly will give you better results than their emulation of PCL5C!
    (2)  Assuming you are printing BR-Script and the colors are still very problematic, try recalibrating the printer via the printer's front panel. See page 82 of their manual!
    (3)  Export PDF as PDF/X-4 and try printing the PDF/X-4 file from Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader, again using the BR-Script driver. This might improve things.
If you still can't get decent color and the printer is still “new,” I'd try to return the unit as defective. You can get much better printers for comparable prices from Xerox that have Adobe PostScript 3 and have reasonably good color. Otherwise, if still under warranty, I'd contact Brother and see if they have solutions other than blaming Adobe somehow!
