CMYK values change between FH and Photoshop

Hi,
I'm trying to recreate a logo in FreeHand MX11 from one done
in Photoshop CS2 that's composed of PMS colors. Unfortunately, the
original artist didn't leave notes as to which PMS colors she used,
but when I sample a color in P'shop, I get a PMS color (286 PC
C100/M66/Y0/K2) that's a near match. Trouble is, when I assign that
same color in FreeHand, even though the color has the same CMYK
values, it looks much darker and not the same color at all. When I
copy and paste the image from FH into Photoshop and sample it, its
values change to C100/M86/Y23/K9.
I'm confused, how can both apps have so much variation in
displaying PMS colors? Is there a color management setting I need
to fix?
Thanks for any assistance,
Chris

The reason is most likely color management in FreeHand. Note
that there is a checkbox 'Color manage spot colors' in
Preferences/Colors. It should be checked, of course. Photoshop and
FreeHand use slightly different RGB color values for Pantone Spot
colors. The difference is very small, though.
Don't rely on screen color but check the colors from Patone
booklet because that's what the printer will do. Unlike cmyk colors
onscreen color management is not that crucial, although it is much
nicer to work if is set just right.
Also note that not single Pantone Spot color can be reprouced
with cmyk colors. Espeicially greens, orages and violets will
change significantly. Pantone Spot to CMYK chart is a very useful
tool, included in the 'Panton Survival Kit'.

  • Color changes between Lightroom and Photoshop Elements

I have a new monitor and I have the SyderPro4 calbration software.  My monitor is the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM.  When calibrated with the Syder my colors are different when I go into different programs.  The same photo looks different in Lightroom than it does in Photoshop Elements. When I export the picture from Lightroom to Elements the picture becomes very orange. I have already talked to Dell and to Datacolor about my issue and they both are telling me this shouldn't be happening. When I uninstall my calibration software my problem goes away, and the colors of the images stay consistant between the two programs. Does anybody have any advice to what maybe wrong?

How do you export to Elements? Directly from Lightroom? If so, what profile are you choosing? What resolution are you specifying? I normally use proPhoto RGB which is the profile that LR more or less uses internally and 330.

Absolutely. Just change the sim card and the APN details in the settings. You can do this either manually if you know them or just sync with iTunes after changing the sim and the details will sync. Once you have done it once for each network the device seems to remember the details.

  • DM3.0 EA2: Filter engineering changes between logical and relational model

    Hi,
when I am engineering changes between logial and relational model there are some issues at filter handling for me:
    - When the filter "Show Modified Objects" is activated, the filter works only on the first level, e.g. on Entity level. On attribute level all attributes are displayed, not only the attributes which have really been modified. It is possible, to show on every level only the really modified objects?
    - I think, selecting a Filter condition is circuitous. All filter conditions except "Show All Objects" keeps activated when I choose another condition. So I have to deactivate "Show Deleted Objects" when I want to see only the modified objects. It is possible to choose another control element for filtering, e.g. disjunctive radio buttons?
I am running Data Modeler on Windows XP with german localization and the JDK 1.6.0_11 from Oracle SQL Developer.

    I logged bug for that.

  • Compatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5.

I am concerned about the possibility of incompatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5 so have delayed updating my Mac. Has anyone updated, experienced problems and found solutions? What does  Adobe have to say in this regard?

I'm not sure I know enough to answer the question.
The images are on my G5 on a second internal hard drive (not the boot drive).
They are in a folder with a lot of images from the same shoot.
That folder shows up in the Library in Aperture, also. I think I imported them. But, as best I can tell, they do not "only exist in Aperture" because I can see them, and their .xmp files in the original file on the second internal hard drive.
Thank you so much for trying to help.

  • How can I transfer photographs between Revel and Photoshop (CS3)?

How can I transfer photographs between Revel and Photoshop (CS3)?
    any Ideas?

    Hi poetryplease,
Unfortunately, there is no Creative Cloud connection between CS3 and Revel. You can upload your images that you have edited, etc, in Photoshop from your desktop into Revel or download your Revel images to your desktop then open in Photoshop.

  • Account "preferences" changing between home and work...

I'm not exactly sure what the issue is, but here goes...
On my MacBook I have only one user account (same as the administrator). At home, I connect to the Internet via Airport.
When I bring my notebook to work, I connect to the Internet via an ethernet connection. I do not have to login or any other maneuever to gain access to the Internet.
Everything works fine generally. One odd behavior I've noticed -- certain of my login items seem to disappear when I'm at work. Specifically, I have several Yahoo Widgets (Konfabulator) on my desktop. Only some launch when I'm at work. Also, it seems that certain changes to my desktop (wallpaper, location of icons, etc) change between home and work.
Any idea what might be causing this behavior? Thanks!

    Hi Flojo:
You will need a seperate "screen name" for each Mac in order to video chat. The nice thing is you can get another .Mac screen name by signing up for another .Mac account and and after the free trial, you can keep the .Mac screen name.
    OR
Just sign up for a free AIM screen name here: http://www.aim.com/
You don't need a paid .Mac account in order to video chat!

  • Report - quantity and value difference between delivery and invoice?

    Hello experts,
My client use u201EProof of deliveryu201D t-code: VLPOD. There is always quantity and value difference between delivery and invoice.
Do you know any report which will show this differences between delivery and invoice?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
Note 867678 - Proof of delivery (POD), delivery and billing document will help you to understand POD flow.
You have the tcode VLPODF/VLPODL/VLPODA, but perhaps they will not help you. So, as the before note suggests you, you can use the tables VBFA, LIKP, LIPS, VBRK, VBRP, TVPOD and TVPODG to do your own report.
    I hope this helps you

  • Color changes between CS2 and CS4 opacity with effects turned on

    Howdie.
I don't run into issues much with Photoshop, and this one has me stumped.
I needed to drop back to CS2 in order to use a warp mesh plugin.  I saved out a small portion of a file that I created in CS4 (Only containing the layer I needed to warp) and then opened that file in CS2, turned off all the effects (drop shadow, inner glow, bevel & emboss), and applied the mesh warp, then saved the file.  I went back into CS4 and re-opened it there and copied its layers into the bigger, original file.  What is strange is that the colors were a LOT lighter than they should be when compared to the original unwarped layer.  So in an attempt to figure out what was wrong, I checked all of my layer opacities, filter settings, layer mixing mode, etc. and everything was exactly the same.  I even tried deleting the layer style and copying the layer style from the original layer...no change.  I turn off the effects and check the color of the object and it reads the same as the original layer.  Both layers have no semi-transparency in the colors.  I turn the effects on and it is all whacked out.  After a while, I figured out that the problem was that the layer opacity in the effects, although reading the same between both layers (70%), is behaving as if it should be at 90% opacity in the new layer in order to match the original.  Its as if the layer worked on in CS2 has brought with it some corrupted info in its definition, that never leaves and affects any Effects you try to apply to it.
Has anyone experienced this one before?

A liitle bit more info here.  Apparently, the pixel data for the warped parts screws with the effect, Inner Glow, in the Choke and Size sliders.  The sliders simply quit functioning and have an abrupt light/dark toggle effect roughly near about value "7".
The only way I could fix the problem was to do this convoluted solution, since Duplicate Layer does not work.
        1.  Clear the effects on the problem layer.
        2.  At this point you can either work on the problem layer directly or duplicate it to create a work layer.  Doesn't really matter because both layers will get deleted later anyway.
        3.  With Channel Mixer, and for EACH color channel CMYK, move all 4 sliders hard left, so that the result is 0/0/0/0 for the CMYK values  (Do NOT use Brightness & Contrast in place of Channel Mixer because you will lose any blurred edges.  Also, using Channel Mixer does not swell or choke off the pixels along any "floating" shapes' edges).
        4.  With the selection tool, create two small selection boxs at two opposite corners of the entire layer.  Fill them with any color.
        5.  Select the entire layer (CNTL + A on a PC), and copy it to the clipboard.
        6.  Create a new Alpha channel and Paste.  The little boxs at the opposite corners of the file were needed to precisely position a copy of the layer when we Paste it into the new channel.  The contents of the channel must be exactly registered with where the original shapes were in the problem layer.
        7.  If you want, you can now delete the boxs in the corners of the channel by filling them with black.
        8.  Create a new layer and load the selection (the channel) we just created.
        9.  Fill it with the desired color.
        10.  Copy the desired effects from the original layer before warping was done and to the new layer we just created.
        11.  Delete the old problem layer.
        12.  Done.

  • CMYK/Pantone differences between CS3 and CS6

I have a file that was created in CS3.  Pantone 534 C was used and the CMYK value that was shown was 100, 80, 30, 5.  When I open the file in CS6 and choose Pantone 534 C, the CMYK value is shown as 98, 85, 36, 27.  Am I going to get the same tone of blue when I print the file from the CS6 version as I did when I printed the file from the CS3 version?
In essence, is the PMS tone that was in CS3 the same PMS tone that is in CS6?  I'm assuming it is, but wanted to confirm.  And can anyone explain why the CMYK values have changed between the two versions if I'm using the same PMS number?

    J,
My problem is, which CMYK values should I use to most closely match the Pantone 534C color?  Should I use the CMYK values in CS3 or CS6 (because they are different numbers)?
I believe someone from Pantone would vote for CS6 because they have changed the values to more closely match the solid colours.
But the proof of the pudding is the eating, so you should try both and see what you think.
Some solid Pantone inks are impossible to match closely with CMYK, and who says that the closer match (by the parameters chosen) is the better/prettier/nicer colour?

  • Brightness Values in Lighroom Development and Photoshop

Why do brightness values differ between Lightroom development module and Photoshop? A picture taken form newtral grey card with correct exposure shoud translate into RGB values of 125 or a brightness of 50% in the HSB-model. This works with photoshop, however, the white balance tool in Lightroom development module displays a brightness value of about 56% which translates in 50% when opening the raw file in photoshop. To me it also looks like lightroom displays the raw file a little bit brighter than photoshop.
    1. What is the reasoning and
    2. Are there any measures to align lightroom and photoshop with regard to brightness

    1. What is the reasoning and
Lightroom uses a colorspace with prophotoRGB primaries and a linear gamma internally. It always operates in 16 bits. LR does this for precision and for reasons of working in the widest possible gamut. However, for the display values, you cannot rely on linear 16 bit values (0-65535), because few people understand them and most of the values will bunch in the lower numbers. So Lightroom, only for the purposes of the value display and the histogram, uses a sRGB tone curve (I discuss that on this page BTW) to modify the values you see and translates into percentages.
    2. Are there any measures to align lightroom and photoshop with regard to brightness
No, there is absolutely no way that you can set up a colorspace in Photoshop that corresponds to the prophotoRGB space with a sRGB tone curve value display in Lightroom. It simply doesn't exist. Somebody might make an ICC profile with those features at some point, but I have never seen it. You can only do this with math. It is not that hard to calculate back and forth between the 1.8 gamma space of standard prophotoRGB and the sRGB tone curve but it is very tedious if you need to do that often. If you simply need to hit a target, do the simple gamma conversion calculation, but otherwise it's best to give up on it.
To me it also looks like lightroom displays the raw file a little bit brighter than photoshop.
If your display is correctly calibrated, the displays will be bit-for-bit identical. Many people are fooled by the effect of the darker interface in Lightroom into thinking Lightroom's display is brighter. It's not.
