CNAME and 123-Reg

I have read many posts on setting up a CNAME for my domain name and .Mac. Why is the information they give you ambiguous?
I have built the site and it works on my .Mac account and on the web but I want it to point to the new address I have bought but where do I add the changes? On the 123 website I am directed to manage DNS page. Then various boxes. So on add new entry I add "myname.co.uk" in box 1. Change to CNAME in drop down box. Add web.mac.com. to last box and click update DNS . I get invalid entry. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Do I change any of the other boxes?
David

Normally you would put www in the first box, then CNAME in the drop down box and then web.mac.com. That should work. Some registrars also need you to do it for @ and www. I had to when I did it and it worked.
That is if your domain name is displayed under DNS settings. If not, then try www.yourdomain.co.uk instead. If domain is displayed above your settings then you should only need to enter @ and/or www and then the rest.
Did you enter your personal domain name in your .Mac account too?

  • IWeb and 123-reg personal domain difficulties

I have published before using iWeb but have now recently bought a domain name with 123-reg. I have changed my CNAME with 123-reg but cannot publish my website using iWeb. It just says:
Publish Error - There was an error updating MobileMe.
What am I doing wrong? Is it massively obvious? I've waited more than 48 hours.

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

    mx1.123-reg.co.uk Priority 20
I have turned web forwarding off but this hust sends my domain to a holding page care of 123-reg.co.uk Should I turn web forwarding on - if so what URL do I ask it to forward to?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards

    Hi there,
I hope you've sorted your problem out. I'm also with 123.reg and had similar problems which have mostly been resolved. If your still struggling. Log in to 123reg.co.uk and go to your control panel. Click on web fowarding and select either framed or non framed forwarding. Add your site to the add url eg http://web.mac.com/yourname. Add title to be displayed in browser (presumably you've registered/bought a name with 123reg)...thats it
My problem with 123reg's system is that it, to me, isn't particularly user friendly. My web forwarding works great but the browser bar only ever shows smandrews.com and not smandrews.com/home/html...anybody know why?

Hello. Since my last firefox update, I have been unable to type an email - the box within which one would usually type does not appear when I press 'reply' to a received email, or press 'compose'. The email provider is '123-reg.co.uk. I have been using both firefox and the provider ['webfusion Ltd/webmail123] successfully for well over a year. The provider says it is a browser problem. I can still add an attachment to the email header, which successfully can be sent, but the recipient gets my standard email 'signature' with font messages and the attachment. Can anyone help? My email addresses are [email protected] [this is the one with the issue] and [email protected] in English

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • 123-reg and natemail form problem

  • IWeb to 123-Reg publishing issue

I have recently registered a new domain name with 123-Reg. Have changed the settings with them to web forwarding and with 'web.me.com' as the destination (I believe this is what I need) and changed Mobile Me settings to reference my new domain name 'www.aixmusic.co.uk'. 123-Reg seems to be pointing OK to web.me.com but not to my site.
This all seemed to work previously with my old registrar but not now. What am I doing wrong?

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.

  • Point 123-reg domain to Business Catalyst

    Hi everyone,
I just published my muse website through Business Catalyst and additionally purchased a domain from 123-reg.co.uk.
I now want to point the domain name to Business Catalyst DNS servers but am not sure how to do this.

    Can somebody please help me?
    Thank you

I have done exactly that and also came accross this document. I have found the DNS section on the registrar's website but don't understand what to fill in?

  • Publishing iweb site using 123 reg hosting

I have uploaded the folder via ftp, but when I go to the website there is basically nothing there apart from a box.
Has anyone else had problems using a hosting service other than .mac??
    website is http://www.freshfaux.co.uk
    cheers

I had exactly the same problem with http://www.forkliftagency.co.uk
For some reason 123-reg hosting does not like you uploading folders all in one go. I had to create the folder in the control panel, and then drop the files into each folder. Same for deleting; 123 will not let you delete a folder with contents.
You need to delete the contents first, and then delete the folder.!

  • 123-reg / Webfusion BT Network Issue

Could BT please sort this out, asap, please ... still a problem at 19:29 on 06 June 2011.

UPDATE :: Our system engineers are continuing to look into this issue for a full resolution and are awaiting further information from BT. Initial investigations have indicated that this is affecting BT ADSL customers. Further updates will be posted on this page when advised.
Customers with BT as their ISP are currently facing intermittent issues with connection to their services with 123-reg/Webfusion. This is causing slowness in the loading of customer`s website and sometimes downloading emails from the server. Our network engineers have identified this issue is related to BT network. They are experiencing packet loss from their end in the data sent to our networks. Customers experiencing this are advised to report this issue to BT as soon as possible.

    Hi,
We've been having the same problems since around Wednesday afternoon (1st June) last week. Started to panic slightly when emails seemed to be getting stuck coming through our 123-reg pop3 server and our own website was taking forever to load (which are both run by 123-reg and relays have all been setup).
Spoke to BT straight away to let them know, only to be told there was nothing wrong from BT's end and to check our SMTP authentication settings which I knew were correct, and to restart the BT fibre modem.
Restarted the modem which seemed to let the emails come through and our website was appearing much quicker, but only for around 30 minutes then the same problems started to come back. Did a quick check on the mirapoint IP checker (mirapoint being the guys that protect BT from any spammers and I'm sure protecting from other nasty things too) and our IP address was apparently at high risk of being a spammer! Told all of this to BT who then replied that our server must have virus somewhere either on our server or our workstations..... We have no viruses and are not spamming!! Final option was to restart the BT modem to get a new IP. After restarting the router many times (around 10!!) until an IP address was finally given with a 'no risk' reputation, everything seems to be running ok.
Finally saw 123-reg's message on their service status page about BT's network not playing with 123-reg's server nicely and must admit it was quite a relief to think there possibly wasnt anything wrong from my setup at all. Phoned up BT and told them, they got 123-reg's status message up on their screens, spoke to one of their technical guys and they said thanks for letting them know and will look into it immediately and will let me know the outcome.
This was last Thursday 2nd June and I have yet to hear back from them. I'm not even touching the BT modem for now as this current IP address seems to be ok.... for now. I wonder if BT are dishing out IP addresses that possibly have bad reputations as listed by mirapoint, maybe mirapoint are protecting BT a little too much?? Whatever it is anyway, I hope it is sorted out quickly as we can't afford not to have this problem again.

  • Numpad 789 and 123 not working in Quick Apply[ctrl+enter] window.  [CC2014.1]

    Hi guys,
We recently switched to CC2014 from CS5.5 and one of the feature we had been using a lot before was the Quick Apply window.  However when we want to use the Quick Apply feature in CC2014.1 with the numpad, the numbers 789 and 123 don't work, while 456 work without problem.  Our style name has numbers in them and it's super practical to have the numpad and Quick Apply working together at 100%.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
    Thanks you.

you might have already tried this – but try is resetting the InDesign preferences on the workstation that is having issues. (Press Ctrl+Shift+Alt on startup).
I haven't but I just tried and it didn't fix it.
remove any third party plug-ins you might have installed in InDesign as well.
The Only 3rd party plug-in we use is Math Magic, I have just removed it, reset the preferences and it still don't work.
Is there a chance you are able to update the version of InDesign CC you are running to the latest release build 11.0.0.22?  (2014.1.0 Release), and repeat the tests in that?
I think at this point it seems to be the only solution left and to cross our finger this will work, but updating PC's is a little tricky because it needs to go through IT software packaging and those affected PC are off the grid in a secret environment.
when you create a new InDesign document and import the styles from the 'problem' document (Paragraph Styles panel menu: Load All Styles), are you able replicate the issue in the new document?
New document, with or without our styles have the same behavior.
when you create a new document in InDesign and add a few new styles with numbers, can you replicate the issue?
You know in the quick apply you can type anything and normally even if you don't have a style with the entered character it will be inserted in the search box, but we don't get to this point with the 7,8,9 and 1,2,3 from the numpad.
Is this an issue you can replicate on other computers / keyboards in the company?
Actually they are not laptop, Dell also sell desktop PC.  My computer is an HP Laptop with an external keyboard and I have the same issue they are describing me.
I wish I could test at my end for you, but unfortunately I only work on laptop-keyboards hopefully someone else out there is willing to test for you – so we know if it's an issue that can be replicated.
So on your end when you go to the quick apply window (ctrl+enter) and use the numpad key 7,8,9 and 1,2,3 you see them been displayed in the search box?

  • CNAME  and Verio

    Hi guys,
I've got a website with GoDaddy - www.poulson.info - where I changed the CNAME to web.me.com, as iWeb requires, and hosted on my MobileMe account. It works great.
I'm now trying to do the same with a domain registered with Verio. They provided instructions for setting up the CNAME but it didn't work. I asked for further help and they now say it cannot be done. Following is quoted from an email from their 'help' desk:
+"Our DNS does not support the configuration of a CNAME pointing to web.me.com (another CNAME). To clarify, the organization that supplies DNS for the poulson.info domain may support a CNAME pointing to an existing CNAME, but our DNS does not support that type of configuration. You will need to speak to Apple for an alternate configuration."+
I am utterly non-technical and don't understand why Verio cannot do what GoDaddy can, or if there is a workaround.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

No, cloaking does not mean that you have to alter any iWeb code at all.
You can still use your domain name without using CNAME, all you do instead is use ordinary web forwarding.
With web forwarding, you do not need to enter your domain name into your MobileMe account, all you do is log into your account where your domain name is registered and go to web forwarding. Then all you do is forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename. The masking/cloaking just means that you either see just your domain name or your web.me.com url - if you enable masking you will just see your domain name for all pages, so http://www.domain.com for all pages.
If you can set up CNAME forwarding, then you need to go to DNS settings and and it will looking something like this:
www (this stands for your sub-domain name) new CNAME then forward to web.me.com, then @ (this stands for your domain name), CNAME and then forwarded to web.me.com.
Why not just move your domain name to GoDaddy instead?
