CNN Pipeline

I was able to use the CNN Pipeline fine on my "old" Mini but I am having problems on the new iMac. I get the following message when trying to launch the web player "Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn’t support. The application “Windows Media Player.app” may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?" When I say yes I get an error in Windows Media Player. When I try launching the CNN Pipeline player in Firefox, nothing happens and when I try to close Firefox, it wont close. I end up having to use "Force Quit" in the Activity Monitor to close Forefox. All of these problems appear to be the result of the upgrade to the new Intel chip, Any one else having simmilar problems?

CNN PipeLine for the Mac! -- sorta: Parallels

Awesome!!!! I have wanted to run CNN PipeLine on a Mac since it first came out. The Mac version is amazingly weak when compared against the Windows version, since the thing is written mainly for the Windows world.
Now I can... This MacBook is certainly the most versatile notebook computer on the market. Maybe my enthusiasm rules over reason, but with Parallels powering my Windows XP, now I can! Full graphics, even the limited graphics that Parallels offers offers no penalty at all. This thing works marevelous.
In the "background" on the Mac side, I have PhotoShop Elements running, along with some stuff I'm needing to do in Excel. Oh yes, Entourage is humming for my e-mail.
What can I say? Simply as amazing computer. I think I'm biased totally now.

I used to run Parallels in full screen mode, but now, have backed it to XP to 1152 * 720, so if fits perfectly in a smaller window on my Mac desktop. Like an application in its own window, kinda like PhotoShop.
Anyway, I agree. I have 2 gigs of ram, so I can easily keep Windows happy (is that possible???) and the Mac smoothly humming.
Basically, Windows XP is a mere appliation for me.
But, honestly, I figured that with all the graphics which Pipeline uses, Parallels would choke. But, it really works wonderfully.
I am so pleased with this computer...

Safari won't work with CNN Pipeline and other sites all of a sudden? A few weeks ago Safari was working OK but now I often have to use Firefox to visit certain webpages.
Anyone else having this same problem?
Is there a quick fix?

I have WMP version 9, as well. I do not use F4M, for many users f4mac is what helps.
I find some items work while others do not. I always get an alert about the wmp , which version it is, takes very long to load, I find it is not consistant with Safari, as seems the poster of this topic has found.

Can't play video on cnn after downloading WMP

I downloaded the WMP 9 and flip4mac because I want to watch CNN pipeline tomorrow-there will be free video all day replaying the coverage from 9/11, but when I try to watch a video on CNN.com it says they can't detect the player???

I'm hearing alot of Windows users with this glitch. ( If it indeed is a glitch.) My recomendation would be to get a Mac. Everything works better on a Mac, including your new iPod. Trust me on this one.
If youre not ready for that, give AppleCrae a call. They are really good at trouble shooting issues with customers. I'm sure they could help you out AND they could sell you that new iMac G5 or iMac Intel Duo. (wink, wink, nudge nudge;)

Getting WMP plug-in to work

I installed Windows Media Player on my newly-purchased iMac Intel Core Duo to be able to view multimedia clips from CNN/Pipeline and listen to audio online from XM and Sirius. When I go those websites and start to try to run the clips I get the following pop-up: "Safari can't display content on this page. Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn't support. The application "Windows Media Player" may be able to display this content. Would you like to try" When I click to continue, with CNN WMP will come up in a separate window and nothing happens. Eventually another pop-up comes saying "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again." I can successfully play the sample .wmv file that came with the player application. Any suggestions as to what I need to do?? My version of Safari is 2.0.3.

Windows Media Player is not a Universal binary, only
PPC based. Hence, unless you are running Safari in
Rosetta mode, you will not be able to play WMP
content through Safari.
Flip4Mac

to be Universal, which will allow you to play
WMP content natively through Safari.
After doing some additional research I came to the same conclusion you mentioned. I'm resolved to having to wait for Flip4Mac to come out in Universal. WMP works great on my son's eMac running Panther, so I have another computer I can use for viewing WMP-based content.

Trying to D/Load Media Player

Yep I need Media Player so I can watch CNN Pipeline - it willdownload but NOT open..H E L P !!

You downloaded Stuffit Expander and installed it on your Mac?
You then unstuffed the Media Player .sitx file you downloaded from Microsoft with Stuffit Expander and then used the unstuffed file to Install Media Player on your Mac?
If you don't understand how these simple processes work, then I'm sorry, you need to complete Mac 101 and familiarize yourself with all of these processes.
If you did get WMP installed and you get that message, then it is a type of file WMP is not set to handle.

Cnn video/ads: adsa play-news video doesn't

I have not been able to find the postings where i left a comment related to
posts about CNN videos not playing but the ad portion did, so I am posting it here. I surmised that CNN may have done something on purpose to push users into PAID programing....am putting money where mouth is...signed up for PIPELINE.......all videos work fine now........wellllll, am I surprised.......NOT!

Unable to watch cnn video

Hi, I tried to watch cnn videos, windows media player upgraded to "9". the wmp opens but it does not play. Even tried it from firefox. Any suggestions?

Clob datatype with pipelined table function.

Performance issues with pipelined table functions

I am testing pipelined table functions to be able to re-use the base_query function. Contrary to my understanding, the with_pipeline procedure runs 6 time slower than the legacy no_pipeline procedure. Am I missing something? The processor function is from [url http://www.oracle-developer.net/display.php?id=429]improving performance with pipelined table functions .
Edit: The underlying query returns 500,000 rows in about 3 minutes. So there are are no performance issues with the query itself.

Like:
- a database version
- how did you test
- what data do you have, how is it distributed, indexed
and so on.
If you want to find out what's going on then use a TRACE with wait events.

Video doesn't work on certain sites like CNN, Crackle, ESPN, CBS, and others. It still works on YT.

On CNN there's just a white space where the headline video normally is, and there's just a black space in the videos section. In Crackle there's just a black space when I click to watch a video. On CBS the little eye logo keeps processing over white space and doesn't load. One curious thing I noted is that the login and help buttons don't respond on CNN, even though I can navigate within the site

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

How to Passing clob to PL/SQL pipeline function

I have a PL/SQL stored function which takes clob as input parameter and sends the results in a pipe line.

I am using ojdbc14.jar (Oracle 10g driver) with oracle 9i (9.2.0.1.0).
I want to use the following SQL Query select * from table(GetIds(clob))
Now the question is how can I pass the clob from JDBC?

The setChracterStream works for any insert/update clob. Example when I tried the query (INSERT INTO CLOB_TEST VALUES(?)) setCharacterStream just works fine.

when you pick the PL/SQL function body returning a boolean, it implicitly means that TRUE means OK, while FALSE means error, always.
In order to associate such error to a given form field, you have to go back to the page definiton / validations and specify the name of the item in the corresponding field.
When you first create the validation rule, this value is not present even if you ask for the error message inline with the field.
The error message text can be specified in the validation definition, if I am not wrong.
When you need to return special error messages, including dynamic content for instance, you can use the Function Returning Error Message type, which reports an error when the string returned by the function is not null. This comes in handy when you want to display an item's code, for example, rather than generic text.
Even in this case, you must go back to the validation and specify the name of the field if you want to see it inline.

Interactive Report using a View with a Pipelined Function

I'm Using Application Express 4.1.0.00.32
I've got an interactive report that references a view (STOCK) and a pipelined function
The basic query is listed below.

When the page is first run all the data is displayed correctly,
If I define a filter, sort or a blank search the data from the pipelined function (STKST_DESCRS.) becomes null and isn't displayed.
Does anyone know what is happening?

I'm curious why you find this dangerous. I want a report that looks like this:
Opportunity X:
4 - 2-apr-2008 - Closed deal
3 - 1-mar-2008 - Called Joe again
2 - 12-feb-2008 - Called Joe
1 - 14-jan-2008 - Initial call with customer.
When you enter a new note, I want it to be numbered 5. The only problem I can imagine is someone deleting a note, which will almost never happen, and if it does, it just leaves a numbering gap. I don't see how using the function in a SELECT will accomplish this.

Interactive report on view based on pipelined table function.

Hi,
I want to build an Interactive Report on a view.
The view definition contains a select on a pipelined table function. I use context functionality to pass paramaters to the pipelined table function.
A plain select * from #my_view# in SqlPlus results in 121 different rows.
However, If I base my Interactive report on this view, I get 15 repeated rows (all the same).
Is it possible to use pipelined table functionality on an Interactive report? I can't seem to get it working.
If I use the following approach (http://rakeshjsr.blogspot.nl/2010/10/oracle-apex-interactive-report-based-on.html) I do get results, but I can't use this solution for a reason that's not relevant.

Safari will not open CNN at all

Yesterday I noticed that Safari will not open CNN.com it just times out and gives me the following error message.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.cnn.com/”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005
I tried Internet Explorer and it did work on this same compter and I tried it on my wife's iBook and it worked there too.
SO, what gives?
