CO integration for student accounting

Hi All
We are currently thinking about intensifying our costing related to programms of studies and are setting up different options how to track corresponding fees and eventually costs in our CO module. I've learned in last years IHE 203 with Marlies in Paris that there is a possibility to use CO-PA for such a purpose (some related statements can be found in the training material). Allthough I've implemented CO-PA based on the core modules before, I'm having difficulties understanding how it would work together with SLCM (PSDC, FI-CA?).
Can you tell me whether
- it's acutally feasible to implement CO-PA with SLCM?
- it has been done already?
- it's really advisable?

The answer to your question is contained in the Student Accounting Cookbook that was posted on October 2, 2009. Could you take a look at Question 6(b) on Pages 27 and 28 ("How can we track revenue"?) The information in the answer should provide you with the details that you need.

Third Party Integration and OID Accounts

I'm planning on using OID with a sync with another LDAP such as AD or Novell. I am also going to integrate SSO with a third party SSO engine.
How do I log into Oracle SSO with a user neither defined in AD or my third party SSO engine? I am basically worried about accounts like PORTAL and ORCLADMIN. Is it possible to bypass the third party integration for these accounts or am I forced to create these accounts in AD and my third party SSO engine?

you can either authenticate locally e.g. cn=orcladmin or externally.
You have various option s (depending on the OID version) and how you organize the user base in OID. On a high level the authentication is based on objectclasses for an entry.
E.g. user being synchronized from AD to OID (using the Directory Integration Plaform) contain an objectclass "aduser" to distinguish them as external AD users within OID. So the external authentication plugin will "know" who is an AD user and try to authenticate this user externally with AD not OID. You can also configure the external authentication plugin to filter user who should not be externally authenticated.
If you store all external users in a dedictated subtree e.g. cn=AD_USERS or cn=EDIR_USER you can configure the external authentication plugin to authenticate those user to the respective external directories.
with OID 10.1.4.0.1 you could also make use of the server chaining authentication.
So there are a couple of options you have. See the documentation

Normally you just need to install the Creative Cloud app and products after signing in with your Adobe ID following the process described here:

Student Discount for Cancelled Account

Earlier this month I cancelled my student account to give Apple Music a try. Now I am regretting this decision and coming back to spotify. When I try to resubscribe to premium student, it tells me my account is no longer eligable. Would like to sign up for premium again before the subscription runs out!

I popcorn maker safe for students in terms of age appropriate content? Is there a way to create classroom accounts?

I am hoping to use popcorn maker as my students are working with Inanimate Alice and I know you all are partnered with the program. I need my students to be able to create mashup videos with text, images, video and sound to tell a story. I am concerned about how to create student accounts that I can monitor and the age appropriateness of content on the site and preloaded content available to pull into a popcorn creation.

Thank you for your question, I understand that you would like to use popcorn maker with student accounts that you can monitor content. Unfortunately there currently is not a feature that is capable of this, however suggesting it as an enhancement in the webmaker bugzilla venue is. [https://blog.webmaker.org/bugzilla-for-webmaker]
Please suggest the enhancement here. In the meantime it is possible to set a project to shared with specific people, ie list of student accounts.

I have to configure the student accounting related activity in SLCM. I am using SAP training material IHE-203. Am I refering the right material and how much it will be usefull for a person who has no idea about the FI-CA module.
This material also instruc that "Student Accounting is covered by the course IHE200. It covers business processes in student accounting (ISPS-CA), fee calculation and sponsoring. This includes functions in master data processing, student
accounting, collection activities."
Please suggest so that I would able to configure the student account related activities.

Hi Sudhir,
- IHE 203 is the new version of IHE 200.
- Generally training material is intended for classroom training - it is not a self-learning material. So don't expect that this approach will be easy.
- I will ask a colleague to contact you with information on the next planned offerings of a student accounting class.
- IHE 203 includes the essential processes of FI-CA. However complementary FI-CA knowledge is usually required. Also you should have some generic knowledge about FI, CO, FM in case you have integration requirements to the general accounting system.

Notice the au in the link and also notice the price is A$ 14.99. Is your Adobe ID billing address and credit card for Austrlia or for the United States?

Can i get a new serial number for Adobe CS6 Design Standard for Students and Teachers?

I have had to re-install my Adobe CS6 Design Standard for students and teachers after having problems with my computer (MacBook Pro)
I am wondering if there is a way to access my old serial number from when I originally installed CS6, or do I have to start over again and get a new serial number?

You normally use the same serial number that you are first issued. If you registered your product when you first installed it then you should be able to find your setial number available thru your Adobe account online.

Advice on small gigabit network for students

Hi Guys (and ladies)
I am about to start planning a small network of macs for use by a local college. There are only 20 students. I plan to have a Mac Pro for server and 5 networked clients for use by the students. There will also be another client in the office for admin use.
I plan to set up the student machines as follows:
4x iMac (Intel) for general word processing, DTP and internet research.
1x Mac G4 MDD for video editing using iMovie and iDVD.
The Admin machine will use MS Office and Sage accounting software under Parallels.
I planned on having the Student computers booting from the server so that they (the students) could not interfere with the setup of the OS and allowing any foul ups to be cancelled by a reboot. Each student would have a home directory on the main server.
My query is this:
The student need to use digital photos for their work - proably using iPhoto as their digital album. Would the uploading of photos into their respective home folders impact on the network or would everything be able to cope or would local storage be better?
I figured that the home folders would be safer on the server (using a mirrored hard drive) rather than trying to implement a network back up system.
Individual machines would be a nightmare to administer because each machine would need setting up manually and with all the user accounts duplicated on each machine and therefore a students work would only be available from that one machine.
The G4 MDD would be used only for video editing so each student could save their iMovie projects on a mirrored HDD on that machine only. Do you think running iMovie or iDVD over the network would be problematic?
So many questions!!!
Finally, What is the best way, in your opinions, to police internet use by the students? I know that OSX client can limit the sites accessible by an account holder but each individual web address has to be configured for the account. Has OSX Server got a facility to allow access to only certain sites that is maybe not quite so restrictive but equally easy to set up?
Your opinions on how you would set this up would be greatly appreciated.

Any network traffic has the potential to impact other users on the network. Whether or not you're generating enough traffic is the issue.
If the users are running typical digital camera-based images of a few megabytes each you should be OK. If they're playing with multi-gigabyte images in things like PhotoShop then that would be a different issue.

Mirrored hard drives are NOT a viable backup solution.
A mirror drive won't prevent some user from acceidentally deleting a file and calling you for help.
A mirrored drive won't protect users from file corruption.
What a mirror drive will do is protect you from a single disk failure on the server, and give you a single point to backup (rather than multiple clients), but you still need some kind of backup plan.

Am I missing something? Why does this need to be a MDD (unless you already have the MDD and are looking for some use for it).
As for whether it's a problem or not, it comes back to the volume of traffic you're driving. Most iMovie projects tend to be small, so you may be OK.

How old are the students?
Seriously. If they're high school or elementary, fair enough, but if they're college grade you're probably wasting your time.
That said, the typical solutions tend to hinge around proxy servers that all web traffic has to pass through. Access controls on the proxy server limit which sites can and cannot be accessed. Mac OS X Server comes with a proxy server built into Apache, but there are other (better?) proxies available, both commercial and open source.
If you're like many school districts you should probably check with the school network admins for policy referrals to make sure that whatever you do fits within district guidelines.

How to activate Windows Server 2012 Datacenter evaluation version with product key provided on MSDN's student account

Windows Server 2012 Evaluation Version recently. Actually, I wanted to check whether i could run Windows Phone 8 emulator on Win server 2012 using my core2duo (Non-SLAT PC). Now i wanted to activate the evaluated version by using product key of my
MSDN's student account. But its giving error when i enter my product key. I checked this article about converting evaluation version to full retail version. The article
says :
"If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional
domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version."
So kindly guide as to how I can install this additional domain controller and how to remove AD DS from domain controller. Currently, I have Dual Boot PC( win 8.1 and win server 2012).

Unless you have configured a whole lot of things into the DC running on the evaluation copy (should never install production on an evaluation copy), it would be simplest to start from scratch and reinstall.
Or, you simply go into Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features to remove the AD role. Then you will be back to a workgroup server.
The evaluation version is good for 180 days plus three re-arms of 30 days each. So you can do a lot of experimenting with the evaluation copy without the need for using an MSDN key.
