Co-ordinates genius required
Hi,
I need some help in programming a section of an application I'm trying to create.
I need to create a triangle (ie 3 sets co-ordinates) of images.
I know that sounds simple - but I also need to be able to create two buttons and make the images rotate left or right (depending on the button pressed)
I assume this will be achieved by turning co-ordinates into some kind of reference (ie 'A1'), then instead of using the co-ordinates mapping the image to the reference?????
But I am very stuck!
My next step is to make the triangle out of 3 images randomly selected from a folder of 5 - then randomly map these to the 3 triangle co-ordinates, using some sort of random number generator (rand?).....if anyone could help with that, then that would be truely impressive!!
Thanks in advance for anyone taking up the challenge!
http://www.ping.be/~ping1339/coortf.htmThat sure is a fine link. After the OP has read and understood the appropriate parts he might have a look
at AffineTransform in the API docs ...
kind regards,

Unable to update Genius - "required file cannot be found" error
I am getting an error "Genius results can't be updated right now. The required file cannot be found. Please try again later" when I try to update Genius. I get this error in Step 3: Delivering your Genius results. It gets passed first 2 steps fine.
Seems to have started when I upgraded to Windows 7 and reinstalled iTunes 9.0.3. Upgrading to 9.1 didn't help.
I know there have been many posts about Genius updates issues, but I saw only ones with "network connection timed out" or "Unknown" errors. Required file cannot be found when updating Genius seems new.
Tried deleting iTunes Library Genius and iTunes Library Extras and returning on Genius. Doesn't work. Tried rebuilding iTunes Library, doesn't work.
Any ideas?+The required file cannot be found....+
+Seems to have started when I upgraded to Windows 7....+
I suspect it's Windows 7 permissions. Instead of not being able to find the required file, maybe itunes doesn't have permission to create it or delete it.
I have watched my itunes folder while itunes updates genius. It creates some temporary journal files and then deletes them. If your windows userID doesn't have full control & ownership of the itunes folder, it might be having trouble with these temporary files, or the genius & extra itdb files.
Go into Windows Explorer. Make sure your window userID has *full control* and ownership of the itunes folder and all its subfolders. Be sure to restart itunes after changing permissions, so itunes will read the new settings.
If still no joy, the next step I'd try woud be to temporarily turn off UAC, and see if itunes can update genius. -
Missing brightness controls in Tiger – Genius required please!
I notice there are already several threads relating to the loss of brightness controls when upgrading from Panther to Tiger. This has now happened to one of my iBooks and I have spent the day trying to find a solution to the problem. So far I have not succeeded but I do have a few more clues and I’m hoping that some genius out there might be able to chip in and present a solution.
The brightness controls work perfectly in Panther but upgrading to Tiger causes them to stop working. (I have tested this in 10.4, 10.4.3, 10.4.6 and 10.4.9)
The problem is not resolved by any kind of reset – PRAM, PMU, NVRAM etc.
In the folder System/Library/Displays there is a folder called Overrides. This folder has significantly more contents in Tiger than in Panther so I tried replacing the Tiger version with the Panther one – still no change.
In the extensions folder I tried replacing Tiger’s AppleOnboardDisplay.kext with the earlier Panther version – still no change.
I am at about the limit of my current software expertise here but it seems that Tiger is for some reason deciding that the display is not what it wants it to be and so limits controllability.
There must be someone out there who knows how to take this to the next level? You would certainly make a lot of G4 iBook users very happy if you could solve this issue or even provide another clue so, go on, give those brain cells a workout and win the praise of all those not-so-bright (no pun intended) iBook owners out there.
Thanks in anticipation.

14" iBook G4 1.33GHz Mac OS X (10.4.9)Welcome to Apple Discussions Mactuition!
I don't know if this will help you or someone else addressing your question, but I also have the 1.33 GHz iBook G4 running the current version of Tiger (I purchased mine in 2006 with Tiger installed) and have never had an issue with the brightness controlls.
This leads me to a few possibilities...
1) Is it possible that there was a firmware update or new graphics driver between your iBook and mine?
2) Did you perform a clean install when upgrading to Tiger? Could something else be causing a conflict?
3) Could there be a physical malfunction or defect?
I'll take a look at some things and let you know if I come up with anything. Good luck. -
I got an iTouch off my mate, 2nd hand.I have BT Broadband Wifi at home, and can't get a connection to my iTouch. The Touch acknowldeges the existance of the router, but refuses to connect when I try to open a web application.Have had several calls to BT - hopeless.Reset the router several times.Wiped the iTouch clean, reset. And have trawled the forums to discover other people with same answer but no solution.I've managed to access other Wifi spots with the touch, just can't connect at home.
Is there a hotshot genius out there who can be my salvation? Your help much appreciated.hm interesting idea. I'll look into that one after work this evening. It's strange, the iTouch picks up my home router, but the IP address that it's picking up looks incorrect. It starts 169., but I think it should be starting 192. Could be barking up the wrong tree here.
Thanks for the idea, and I'll welcome any thoughts! -
Using iMovie 09 with stereo pairs?
Talking to the geniuses at the local Apple store, it seems clear that iMovie 09 saves Ken Burns pan/crops to the images, not as separate data. This makes it difficult to create identical moves on matching stereo pairs, as the camera pans and crops would have to be exactly the same for the right and left views of the pair.
I'm thinking there's a work around for this limitation but I need to learn more about how iMovie saves its files.
Consider the case where a transition and pan/crop is created for successive right view images, then this is exported as a Quicktime movie, then iMovie is closed. If it is possible in Finder (not in iMovie) to substitute the left view image source files for the right view image source files, using precisely the same file names, then when iMovie opens again it would not know the difference and could export a left view Quicktime movie.
But I can't investigate this hypothesis because I can't find the source files that iMovie uses. Performing a swap out with the original files has no effect (at least, I saw no change in the thumbnails and the playback when using well marked test files. So are there hidden copies of the source files that iMovie uses? And if so, how do I locate these so I can swap them out?
I hope I'm making myself clear here. When I explained what I was trying to do at the Apple store today, the geniuses required several reiterations before they got it, because my intent is so unconventional and they had no reference point. But they did get it, as far as using iMovie as it was designed to be used, and said, no, you can't do this with iMovie because swapping out images within the program removes any Ken Burns pan/crops you have set for them. And there is no way to numerically set these parameters so they are identical in a new movie to those in a different movie.
I didn't ask them about a workaround that would fool iMovie when it is reopened into thinking it is using the same images, but I'm asking here. If I know how to locate those source image files, I can do the rest.
Or am I completely missing something that should be obvious?
(There's software for Windows called ProShow Gold that allows saving camera movements separately from images, and this is used for making stereoscopic slide shows with Ken Burns pan/crops. But I want to do this on a Mac.)
Thanks.
SMcQKarsten,
Thanks for that link! I think your arrows will point me in the right direction.
In my effort, the images for stereo projection are placed side by side as a pair in a shared frame, 2800x1050 total resolution. Quicktime Pro can make these and show these, and also a free stereo avi editor called Stereo Movie Maker for Windows. For stereo 3D from start to finish, it is important to be cross platform proficient. Of course, the Mac can make this OS switch, but I'd like to see more stereo 3D options in Mac native software, because right now, there aren't any. Our projection software is a custom build by programmers at UC Davis and our projection system runs from an Intel Mac Pro feeding dual Hitachi projectors.
I made a movie of a slide show with iPhoto, using 19th Century stereocard views, but wanted to take the presentation into Ken Burns territory with camera moves that are coordinated between the right and left views. I think iMovie 09 can do this with some, as you say, (ab)use. Hackers are the bleeding edge, right?
Our stereo theater is at Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Nevada, within the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center located on the Sierra Nevada College campus. The building is too new to see on Google Earth (or Google Earth imagery is too behind to show a building four years old).

Region of Interest (ROI) on Intensity Graph
Hello,
I hope somebody can help me. I have read the other posts available regarding choosing ROIs on intensity graphs but they don't really answer my question.
I am taking a series of still images. Having stored the image as an array and displayed it on the intensity graph, I need some way of selecting a rectangular ROI (preferably with mouse) to define an array subset and performing max/min/mean/standard deviation measurements on this region. I am aware that the array would need reshaping to work with the in built VI for mean and standard deviation but cannot seem to find a way to may the selection of the array subset in the first place.
I would be very grateful for any pointers
Sarah BohndiekHi,
since you're using an intensity graph, you could use an event structure to capture for the mouse down and mouse up events.
They both give you the coords of where the mouse was. The nex trick would be to convert that into array position co-ordinates, which requires knowing how the data is presented in the graph (actual graph area size, and the amount of data passed to it.) It's easy enough to get the size of the plot area, and you can get the position of the control itself, however calculating exactly where the plot area is inside of the control is not available.
If you plot area size is fixed, you could use a picture control, set to transparent over the top of the plot area. Then use the same trick for the event returning co-ordinates. If you change the values on the scale however, the actual plot area can change in size too (since the renumbering on an auto-scale can cause the scale on the axis to move if the text increases or decreases in length)
By far the easiest route would be to buy the vision development module and use the image control which has the built in ROI capabilities (and editing of the ROI).
Hope that helps

IPhone 4 won't connect to Virgin wifi
My 3G iPhone was connected to by home broadband - virgin wifi - but my new iPhone 4 won't connect. It can 'see' the wifi signal, but it won't accept the password. What can I do?
Have you tried to connect to WiFi elsewhere?
I couldn't get my Bigpond Cable wi-fi to connect to my iPhone 4, yet my iPad was connecting. Tried everything I read on the discussion forums - reset network settings, did a new restore without my backup, checked the Mac Address was listed on the router, reset the router - and Nada! Restored the phone again using my 3G backup again & made an appointment to see a Genius at Apple.
Then I went to McDonald's the next day & it worked on their free WiFi. Got home, clicked on Wifi again through settings & the WiFi starting working! I don't why! WiFi works fine now, so no Genius required. -
Brand new AppleTV with static popping
I just bought my AppleTV and to my dismay it was s%$*t. Before I continue, I just want to say that I have everything Apple except AppleTV. I'm an engineer by background and I have set up all kinds of electronics you can imagine, so what I'm about to describe is not due to some noob screw-up
Here's what happened: After getting it earlier today from the Apple Store in Infinite Loop, I went home and set it up for the first time. It was a direct connect to my big screen 1080p LCD tv using HDMI. No genius required there. During the initial menu screen/start-up, I started hearing static popping sounds through my TV speakers. Audiophiles refer to it as audio clipping, but for the sake of forum tag searches I will call it "popping sounds". My LCD video signal also started clipping and I was worried that something could fry. I don't need to explain further. I continued with the setup (wifi, language, settings) until I finally got to the apps. The whole time it was clipping at random intervals. I have no doubt it's because of the AppleTV electronics. There are no other variables here. It's direct-connect (not through a receiver) and yes I tried different HDMI cables. No, it's not my HDMI cable, I have the best of them. This has to be some really bad electronics in the device that's sending this type of interference (or not filtering properly). I had two Rokus and a Logitech smarttv in the same inputs running for months prior to this purchase and have not once had any kind of audio clipping or popping or static signals. I searched the forum and it seems to be pretty common, with many remedies being offered here and there, such as turning the Dolby NR off, or seting the sound to 16-bit, or some other voodoo. The empirical evidence is already here in the forums that there's a problem with this device, so my device can't be an outlier or some busted-up instance. AppleCare, if you're reading this check your rate of return statistics and reason for returns of the for AppleTV, might give a clue. Tim Cook, please fix this AppleTV. This is so against the Apple user experience I have come to expect. I still admire your products.I have the Apple TV 1080p, 3rd Gen. I decided to reseach the whole white noise, static noise that happens to come out when I'm watching certain movies.
My setup:
Running audio out digital optical to a RCA converter to my Bose speakers:
To
Whenever watching Netflix movies, or HBO on demand, I get that noise.
To Fix the issue in this situation that I have,
found on Apple's site: just go to your audio setup where it says, "dolby digital" and have it turned to off.
That fixed my issue. Since I'm only running stereo to a 2 speaker system why have the 5.1 surround sound on?
Keep in mind this is great to have on if you are running a surround sound system and or a amplifier that can handle a optical cable.
Hope this helps for some! -
Can I use Genie on my local mp3 WITHOUT entering credit card details?
I want to try Genie on my local iTunes database. When i activate it, it want to create an iTunes account and wants to have my credit card number. I feel uncomfortable typing my credit card number there, and I dont see the reason since i dont want to buy anything. Is there a way to activate Genie without credit card details?
Genius requires an iTunes Store account. If you don't want to use a credit card, you can get a gift card and use that. http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/giftcard/

Cannot get Genius to work - Always get same error message - "Genius results can't be updated right now. The required file cannot be found." Problem also seems to be affecting iCloud aand Music Match. Can anyone help me with this? What file is missing and from where?
This is a known problem with Windows 7 Enterprise using certain Group Policy settings. Solution for me was to use another machine running Windows 7 Ultimate.
-
To those users with Windows 7 and iTunes that cannot turn on Genius due to a 'required file cannot be found' or have begun getting the error stated above and can't find the solution.
Well the solution is on this post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10554450 (Windows 7 RTM (Build 7600) and iTunes 9.0), but is more complex to put into practice than the mere command given on the post.
*You must disable (not just stop) the Branchcache service on windows _and reboot_* the machine for it to take effect, after that Genius will update without any problems.
If you like me and have a corporate notebook with Group Policy setting this service to run then you must disable it from the services menu within Administrative Tools in the Control Panel (rather than the command in the previous post).
If you don't have administrator access then you must speak with your IT department and have them disable it for you.
Now this is what really annoys me - *APPLE really should get their act together and fix this error, as it's caused by a conflict in between the Genius update routine and a genuine windows service and has been around since the release of Windows 7 (perhaps Vista)*. It really can’t be that hard to fix since it’s just a simple data exchangeI found more info here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/geni us-results-cant-be-updated-right-now/ab98e076-50a8-4dd0-b9d1-ee4399030236?page=1 &tm=1322094589886
It looks like updating Match and updating Genius are both incompatible with the branchcache service. I disabled the service, and was able to fetch Genius and Match info to this PC. I then re-enabled branchcache, and once again, "update (Match, Genius)" fail with this error message--however, I can play my Cloud library from the PC, I just can't update its contents. -
iOS 6 update has done something to the YouTube icon and now I can't see videos when following the new link in the bookmark bar. Flash player required message appears and there is a black bar when scrolling.
YouTube is not now part of iOS 6. However, you can download the YouTube app at http://itunes.apple.com/app/youtube/id544007664.

Bonjour & disk sharing over WAN -Expert/Genius help required
*Goal: Learn how to connect to my USB hard disk over WAN, share drive with specific people.*
I'm trying to figure out how to remotely access my data on the external drive via connected via USB to my AEBN.
I've spent several hours dinking around with my router, trying to see if I can access the drive over the WAN. I haven't found any manuals, discussions, or K-Base articles that spell it out for me. Below is a list of things I've done. Please indicate whether they are relevant, and if possible what the procedure is. Thanks:
Conditions: I have a static IP address and through the DHCP tab I have assigned all attached machines a static LAN IP address.
*1. Airport>Base Station: Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port.* I've checked this box and can remotely admin my AEBN from my PC laptop (XP) via the Airport Utility.
*2. Airport>Access Control: MAC Address Access Control.* I didn't know if this would help or hurt anything so I added the MAC address for all ethernet and wireless ports connected to my network and given unlimited or untimed access. +No noticeable difference.+
*3. Internet>DHCP: DHCP Reservations.* As mentioned above in conditions, I've assigned an internal IP address for each device's ethernet and wireless ports, based on the MAC address. +Seems like this and Access Control are redundant except for the time settings.+
*4. Disks>File Sharing:* Enable file sharing is checked, with accounts (configured), "Share disks over ethernet WAN port" is also checked, as is "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour". Not sure what to put in the bottom two fields (Workgroup and WINS Server) so they're blank.
*5. Advanced>Port Mapping:* I've assigned ports to my iMac for gaming and SSH access but I don't think these would effect the USB disk would they?
*6. Advanced>Bonjour:* "Use a wide-area hostname" is checked. My LAN network name is in the Hostname field, for Domain I just typed my WAN IP address, and I put something in for Name and Password.
I'd love any assistance to figure this out.
Lastly, how does Bonjour help over the WAN? Is there some sort of Bonjour application I open log-in, like FTP client software?Since this discussion has now been resurrected...
The advice provided by chrisfenix will allow you to access the Airport drive from a PC on your private LAN.
The preceding discussion, however, was on the topic of accessing the Airport drive remotely over the internet. To do that, you could still use the advice provided by chrisfenix but substitute the public IP address of the Base Station. To find that out (and answer a question posed earlier in this discussion as well) just go to http://whatismyip.com/ from any computer on your own network.
To answer a question posed by the originator of this discussion - Bonjour is not at all necessary for remote access of the Airport drive. Those people who know how to use this feature will know what it is for and how to implement it - the rest of us can just pretend this feature doesn't exist. -
Crash Restarts - Varying Opinions from Genius Bar
I'm experiencing intermittent Restarts and have been in to the Genius Bars several times and get different opinions on the issue. I've been told my hard drive was going, so I relaced it. Didn't fix it. I was then told it was a software issue caused by Dropbox, so I totally uninstalled it. Didn't help.
I was also told that my video card might be the problem by one Genius Bar (haven't replaced this yet), but another Bar insisted it was software. I don't know who to believe or what to do to fix it.
I've brought in to a Genius Bar print outs of my logs and also my Mac Pro another time and they ran tests to push my computer and that's when I was told my drive and possibly my video card were a problem, but at this time software was not said to be the issue. I got that diagnosis after replacing my hard drive.
Here is the crash log from the Restart that just happened a little while ago, followed by data from my Kernal Log and System Log from the Console. If anyone can give me insight into what the issue is I would be completely grateful...

Genius Mixes Not Working- On iTunes on Windows 7- 64 bit
I built my iTunes library from my entire collection- of over 10,000 songs (more than 64 gigabytes)- and all songs are organized through iTunes Media folder- all have the proper information required for identification, match etc. These include 90s songs, 60s songs- and the latest. All sorts of music is in there. But when I turn on Genius I get NOTHING- Nada- no genius mixes, and although genius is on, I get no Genius playlists when select any track and ask for a play list. I have gone through all the forums I could lay my hands on, and tried all the tricks there. Now, I am at a loss. I filled more than half of my iPod Classic (160G), and would love to see what the genius mixes and genius playlists look like for my collections- but I see none. Any ideas? thanks.
Try the following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
