Co-worker's Mac is accessible to me when it shouldn't be

A co-worker's Mac appears in my Finder sidebar under the "Shared" section, even when we are not on the same network, and when we're not connected to our corporate VPN. I can't understand why.
I can access her files and share her screen (since I know her OS X username and password—I'm her Mac's admin).
How can I even see her machine over separate networks? Right now, we're both at our respective homes, 30 miles apart. I am not logged into our corporate VPN, or any other shared resource. We both have the same ISP (Comcast) but certainly should be many, many subnets apart. Could this be a really wide Wide-Area Bonjour connection? Both of our machines should be using whatever the default Bonjour settings would be in 10.6.
I cannot see any other co-workers' Macs in this manner.
I'm boggled, what am I missing? How can I shut this down?

The Finder has had some issues in the past where a machine in the sidebar did not necessarily go away when it was no longer accessible.
I know. This got better in 10.6, in fact. I found out I could connect because I thought trying to log in would expunge it from the list upon connection failure. Instead I was sitting there watching my co-worker's desktop, dumbfounded.

I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem. After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms. I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue. I need help. Suggestions please.

Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.

Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.

I am running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and iPhoto Version 9.6 (910.29). Automatic updates in the Mac App Store is turned on for my iMac and it shows no updates available. I was told directly by Apple Support on the date that I wrote this article (Nov 8, 2014) that there were no Canon drivers and photo transfer software that worked with Yosemite. I was told by Canon that the workaround was to change the communication method from Normal to PTP on the camera, which did provide a solution. At that time I was running Mac OS X 10.10 (because the 10.10.1 update was not yet available) and the most up-to-date version of iPhoto for Mac OS X 10.10 that was available at that time, at least per the Mac App Store. With the Mac OS X 10.10.1 update if the camera is in PTP communications mode the thumbnails now appear in the Import screen in iPhoto almost immediately. If the camera is returned to Normal communications mode; however, it takes forever for the thumbnails to appear. I have been waiting 10 minutes and iPhoto has generated only 14 thumbnails. So it appears that there is still something not working properly between the original Canon EOS Digital Rebel and Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 when the communications mode on the camera is set to Normal.

Formatting a PC-formatted External Hard Drive to work in Mac OS

So I have a 300 gig external hard drive formatted for Windows XP with NTFS. I recently got a Macbook Pro and as it stands in Mac OS X the hard drive is read only. I can copy files from the hard drive to my Mac, but I can't edit files on the external HD or copy from my Mac to my external HD. This of course is a problem and so I need to reformat it to work in Mac OS. While I will not be using PCs anymore, if possible I would like for the external HD to be Mac and Windows compatible.
First things first I have to get all 300 gigs of files off the external HD in order to reformat it. This will be a pain but I have the means to do this. Once I get everything off, how and with what method should I reformat it to work in Mac? Should I use the HFS file system or MS-DOS? Also, what utility in Mac OS lets me reformat it. As I said, I probably won't be hooking up this external HD to Windows anytime soon, but if there is a way to format it in Mac to work with Windows, then fine.
So what exactly are my options here? I understand that I can format the hard drive in Mac OS with either MS-DOS or FAT32. I just don't know which is better/faster/more reliable in Mac OS, as I'm still a Mac newbie. I don't have files that are over 2 gigs as far as I remember, so I don't think that will be an issue. If it helps, it is mostly media files (videos, music). I've read up online about formatting a drive to work with Mac OS, but there's just so much info I'm getting confused. Thanks.

So from what people are saying, I can format the drive in Mac OS as FAT32 (aka MS-DOS) and it will work fine between the two operating systems.
I've been reading more though and it seems that FAT32 drives can not be larger than 130 gigs? Or is that just for partitions.
I have a 350 gig hard drive and I don't plan on having any partitions. Can I just format the drive as FAT32 in Mac OS and the whole 350 gigs will be available? There's so much conflicting info in articles I've been reading.

OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 SSO with AD not working on MAC OS 10.6.8

We have setup SSO in our production with OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 version and Active directory. All seems to work fine on all browsers. But on MAC OS 10.6.8 when we use Safari 5.1.7 it doesn't work. But when we use the application on MAC OS version 10.7.5 and safari version 6.0.1 and it is working fine. Can anyone please let me know if you have come across the scenario and the solution for this. In windows it works perfectly fine on all browsers. Only this version of MAC and Safari is giving us the trouble.

JavaScript and Cookies are enabled. my cookies list shows at least 3 associated with hulu. Funny thing is, if I grab the up/down control bar on right side of screen with my mouse, then hulu plays in a somewhat chopped frame by frame. As soon as I let go, the frame freezes yet audio portion continues.
I don't know what a munged Hulu cookie is, however.

I'm just gonna keep updating this as I can't really do anything else. I've found several more questions like mine with no answers. I did find one with an answer that mentions that it may be the video card acting up, so I'm gonna post a screenshot of my information.

I posted this question on the 25th, and have yet to receive an answer. Because of this crashing problem, I can't do anything on my computer outside of play solitaire, and hang around Adobe communities looking for an answer. I've found several questions like mine (Mac, firefox, flash player constantly crashing) that have no answers either, and I'm getting upset. I've been floating around Mozilla and Apple's help sections, and there's no answer there either. How do I get an answer? Or is there just no fix for this issue and Flash player doesn't work on mac anymore? Is there another program that I can use in place of Flash player? I would very much like an answer, response, or anything cause I stuck here till then. Thank you for you time.

What can I do if Flash Player is not working at all?

Hello,
Since last week, Adobe Flash Player has not worked on my computer at all. I can't watch any videos, and any webpage using Flash for the ads crashes. I tried using Adblock initially thinking that the ads were the problem because they have frozen my computer in the past. This did nothing, so I went through the trouble shooting guide for Flash on Mozilla's website. I removed all plugins, disabled hardware acceleration, and even uninstalled Firefox and Flash player then reinstalled them again. It still keeps crashing, and I don't know what to do anymore. Is there anything that can be done? Thank you for your time.

I can hold the option key at start up and choose my network, then Internet recovery shows up with an arrow pointing up. When I click on the arrow Internet recovery fails and all I get is a globe with a triangle on it with an exclamation mark on it, and under that it says

I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
It was Ram for me..

JMC doesn�t work on Mac OS X

I wrote a small video player with JavaFX Script which runs well on Windows, but it doesn’t work on Mac OS X.
On Mac OS X, I have only a black square (of the size of the video) has the place of the video but I have the sound!
I try 2 types of files quicktime file (.mov H264) and Windows Media Video 9 and I have the same result...
I think the libCoreVideo.jnilib is loaded and the link with coreaudio is fine because I have the sound and when I delete libCoreVideo.jnilib I haven’t anything (no black square and no sound of course)
But for corevideo, I don’t know…
What’s the problem?
And somebody can help me?
