Coaxial connection and a Airport Express
So I bought a Airport Express and my existing wifi router is connected to the internet with a coaxial cable and as we know the airport express does not have a connection like that, so what do I do?
Only one coaxial connection is needed on a network and it is already in place.
Connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN <-> port on your existing Wi-Fi router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express Wi-Fi router. An Ethernet cable can be run up to 300+ feet or 100 meters, so you can locate the AirPort Express wherever you want.
Now there are two Wi-Fi routers connected together correctly on your network.
We assume that your existing Wi-Fi router is operating correctly and providing a wireless network.
Is there something that you might have in mind for the AirPort Express to do?

I have an ipad 2 with airport express that I use to play and change music whilst teaching ballet class. Recently, I keep losing connection and the airport express appears to be getting quite hot. I did use Archos but changed to Apple for reliabilty! Can anyone help or should I just buy a new airport express.
I agree that it's probably interference. Only other possibility, since you mentioned it, it overheating. Is the express situated so that it is well ventilated? That is to say, not buried under other equipment and laying on its side? What does the status light do when you lose connection?

AirPort Utility in Mavericks has dropped support for the older AirPorts.

Can I share my internet from my Imac with my Ipad and simultaneously connect to a airport express that I use to remotely to connect speakers?
The big problem that I'm having is that when internet sharing via the airport I can not simultaneously connect with my airport express. It would be great to be able to share internet from my Imac so I can be using my Ipad and at the sametime have my wife use the airport express to stream music in a different room. It would be awesome to be able to have the ability to do both. I just upgraded to iTunes version 10.6.0.40 and now I am having problems connecting to my Airport Express and I get an error message 15000. Does anyone know what that means? I am using an ethernet cable so it is not a wireless problem. Trying to find out if this is realated to the iTunes upgrade. Any ideas out there?

I have an aiport extreme base station in my living room and an airport express in my bedroom extending the network. For some reason my xbox along with some other devices always connects to the extreme base station in the living room which has a very low signal. Is there a way to setup a seperate network for my express extender so that I can connect only certain devices? HELP
You would probably want your Express to join the network if an extender isn't required. Reset to factory settings and join the network.
If you do want your Express as an extender run an Ethernet cable between the Express and the Verizon router and set the Express up to be in bridge mode, with the same WiFi network name and password as your Verizon router. -
I've just changed my router and whilst my laptops sync ok, my G4 tower which connects via an airport express doesn't connect to the internet. I think it's something to do with the IP or DHCP settings but have had no success, any help much appreciated.

Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

Then Apply.
Also, turn off IPv6:

Connecting to multiple Airport Express base stations for internet and TV?
I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single ethernet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be an ethernet splitter (maybe - any ideas?), getting a new ethernet connection installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
Is this possible? Are there other alternatives?

Once you have a network, you can connect multiple AirPort Express (AX) to that network (wirelessly or via Ethernet). When your computer joins that network it can access all the AX.
You could take your current internet connection and run it into an inexpensive router with multiple Ethernet ports (not the AX). If this is a wireless router then your AXs could be located elsewhere and connect as wireless clients to that network. Once you computer joined that network it could stream music to the AXs. -

I have a couple of netgear wireless routers (WGR614, WPN824 v3) as well as a Belkin wireless router (F5D8233-4v3) lying around, and was wondering if it is possible to use any of these to share the internet feed from a cable modem to both an airport express and a Sony Blu-Ray Player? I connected the WPN824 router between the cable modem and the airport express but the airport express will only give an orange light then as if it does not have internet access. Many thanks.What you are basically attempting to do is extend the Belkin router with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) via a wireless connection between them. This method is known as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Unfortunately, WDS is not a standard and router manufacturers implemented, in most part, to only work with their products ... so it will be very unlikely that you can create a WDS between your Belkin and the AX. There have been a few Belkin model that have been updated by third-party firmware that support WDS, but the models you listed are not any of them.

How to connect a 2nd airport express in a home network?
I'm triying to connect a second airport express in my home network but when I plug in and go to Airpot Utility says :
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information."
I don't know what to do to get connect the second airport exprees?, Do I miss something ?You need AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure that model Express. The problem with that version is that Mountain Lion will refuse to let you install it.
This dilemma is easily solved. You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.

When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
Mountain Lion will not allow you to delete its existing version of AirPort Utility. Just ignore it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
If you have an older computer with a version of AirPort Utility earlier than 6.0, you can administer it that way as well. -
How can i connect my existing airport express to my new time capsule network?
I have an older airport express for wirelessly extending my network in my apartment. I bought a new Time Capsule and my airport express flashes amber and cannot find the time capsule to connect. How do I get them connected?
You can use the USB3 connections for USB2. That's downward compatible. Just runs at USB2 speed.
Just this week apple announced a couple of TB adapters, TB-to-ethernet and TB-to-firewire. But the FW adapter is not at the apple store as yet (at least at the time I am posting this). -

I have a first generation time capsule running 802.11n (b/g compatable) and the airport expresse's are the newer 5ghz models. I have 3 airport express's and I have the range that I need. I can run the time capsule using 802.11n 5ghz, but I loose the range and can't connect to all of the airport express's. My computers and mobile devices run 802.11n. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase the network speed. Would the new airport extreme fix the problem?
Thank youUnfortunately, you are experiencing one of the downsides to 5 GHz. That's because the higher frequency 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals.
After all, you always have to give up something to gain something else. In the case of 5 GHz, you gain potential speed but in return, you must give up penetration power and distance capability.
In order to work well, 5 GHz signals need to almost have a line-of-sight relationship between devices. Unless you can achieve this, you will do much better to leave the Time Capsule running at the 802.11n (b/g compatible) 2.4 GHz Radio Mode and allow the Express devices to "extend" that network.
As for the location of the AirPort Express devices in an exended network, that is critical for best performance. That's because the Express can only "extend" the quality and bandwidth of the signal that it receives. Post back if you need a few more tips on how to find the best location for the AirPort Express devices.

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express. I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11. The OS software on both machines is totally up to date. AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP. I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps. Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up. This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going. For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds. On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59. I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius. Both machines are set to radio channel 2. The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.

Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet. The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing. With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

ITunes on my iphone no longer connects to my airport express
My macbook air (OS10.8.5) connects to the airport express without any problems. My iphone 4S (OS8.1) has lost the connection.No idea with which update, i just noticed. All three are on the same WIFI network. I turned the airport and iphone off and on a few times. What else could I try?

HP Laserjet printer connected to my Airport Express?
I have bought a HP Laserjet printer and I want to connect it to my Airport express, so I can print wireless. I have my Airport express installed and connected to my router via Ethernet cabel and I the printer is connected to the Airport station by a USB cable. But my Macbook Pro can't find the printer when I search for it? What might the problem be?
Hope someone can help!The problem may be that the AirPort Express does not support your printer model. Not all printers are supported, and Apple tends to favor popular, lower priced All-in-One devices for USB support.
On your Mac....open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Print & Scan
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Hopefully, your printer model will appear. If it does, click on the name of the printer to highlight it, then click Add to install the printer at the location of the AirPort Express
Try to print. Be sure to select the correct location of your printer, as it may appear as a printer connected to your MacBook Pro and as a printer connected to the AirPort Express. You must choose the correct location to be able to print.
If your printer model does not appear when you click the + button in the steps above, about all that you can do is contact HP Support to see if they have an updated printer driver that you could download and install....that might allow the print function at the AirPort Express.
