Cockpit: Browser widget, what browser is used.

Hi Experts,
I have been asked a question regarding the browser widget regarding Cockpit and Dashboards.
" What browser is used by the browser widget ? "
I assumed it was the default browser set in Windows but can anyone shed any light on this?

I believe not all browsers are supported. Check the documentation to find out what browsers are supported.

Yes, you can also, e.g. include a help file or manual as html and open that in the browser.

OS9.1 web browser - Don Archibald, what do you use?

If I remember correctly, Don Archibald previously said he was sticking to OS9.1. I'm wondering what browser he uses that works best w/fewest problems.
I've been using Mozilla 1.3.1 (love it! except for the left hand side problem) and find iCab very slow.
I'm sticking w/my iMac for as long as I can. I use it for email, some text composition, and some internet searches - nothing fancy, no games, photo shows, etc. I just want to be able to see full pgs for the websites! This apple discussions pg, my yahoo address bk (although not yahoo's "check mail") and others will not allow me to scroll over to the entire left side. (Am having to write this on my husband's iBookG4.)
Just thought since Don Archibaldis staying w/the Classic, he could give me some advice on browsers. Thanks!

Don't know if I have much to add: What DOESN'T work great are Netscape 7.02 and IE 5.1.6. (OS9.2.2)
Netscape has a tendency to take up more and more RAM (while viewing sites with lots of photos, in particular), until my Mac runs out of resources and either Netscape freezes, or the Mac does (192MB).
IE has other problems. I've tried ICab 3.0.3, and long ago, Mozilla 1.0.1 and Opera 5.0.485, but decided to stick with the more familiar Netscape, where all my bookmarks and such are.
Outside of web site problems, my old Mac doesn't give me too many problems (email, Office 98 and a little PDF viewing is 98% of my computing, these days).
A tangential question (since Apple has somehow changed the Discussions site, so that I can't see the left side of web pages, and there's no "post new thread" button anywhere, and I can't find the answers anywhere else on the site, or are they responding to pleas about these problems!):
* I downloaded iTunes for OS9, and it works, EXCEPT it won't recognize my external CD burner (Toast does);
* I have a USB card installed (archives mention "built in; why? is the burner REQUIRED to be connected to a USB port, instead of SCSI? will a USB card NOT be sufficient if I have a USB burner? no answers anywhere.)
* archives also mention "authoring support" software or files; I have several such files (dated '01), but no info in the archives (or Discussions) about what this does, which file is the RIGHT version, or where I can find a copy.
I can't tell why iTunes won't work (either h/w or s/w issue, both, or something else), can't post my own thread, and can't get Apple to respond to the problems with how Discussions is displaying recently (or to my iTunes problem).
Talk about more nails in the coffin! If someone can help, even if it's to help me start my OWN query, much appreciated!!

Some words on a frequently used site link to third party ads but only on FF not IE; m discussing with site who asked what browser i use; i use avast free.

I recently started using FF. I use a local nz auction site trade me & noticed that some words (partic 'free' and 'women') showed up green on FF (not on IE) with a link to other sites one a dating site one a free gaming site I think. I asked TM to remove these links, however they've asked me to tell them which browser I use & which security software (use Avast free vsn). So obviously isn't them I conclude. (they are going to follow it up). I also use Vista. I went into my Trade Me listings initially and disguised the 'offending words' ie made 'women' 'w...n' instead - then the next word 'women' displayed the link, and so on thru the ad. When I reinstated the word 'women' again it showed up green on FF only, not IE. From what you have described, I don't think you are ever going to pick that up as malware at all. But I did look at the site you mentioned in Google Chrome, and in IE9. First thought was maybe Chrome suppresses it, but that would be contrary to trying to convince you that their AdSense or IntelliTXT is "helping" you.
What I did find in Chrome was
"Google Chrome's connection attempt to ad-apac.doubleclick.net was rejected. The website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured."
Since I don't have ad blockers in Chrome or IE, that tells me that my hosts file is doing its job, you can draw you own conclusions. There is something similar displayed in IE, but I can't read what was there because the font-size was too big. for the space. In Firefox with "Adblock Plus" extension it is all wiped out. The hosts file works across the entire system but is directed at blocking malware sites more than advertising. "Adblock Plus" is very good at blocking ads and can do its blocking with more generic filters, and can block a lot of malware from coming in but it can't block at the system level that a hosts file can.
In IE although I can only see "It appea" because the font is too large and text does not wrap it does actually say "It appears you are connected to the Internet, but you might want to try to reconnect to the Internet."
I would certainly suggest installing "Adblock Plus" extension and the "Easylist (USA)" filter subscription -- links are in the links previously provided, and installing the hosts file as well also in the links.
It takes a bit more work to install and maintain a hosts file but the directions should be clear enough.

Newer versions of Photoshop ships with Adobe Bridge for Organizing image files. However your not required to use it. You can also use LightRoom or system utilities like Windows File explorer and Mac Finder. Photoshop itself uses System dialogs to access your file systems files. When Photoshop display an Open or Save dialog to you in all probability its a Windows or Mac System dialog. Photoshop versions may also have some internal Photoshop Dialogs programed by Adobe for accessing your systems file systems.

Unable to view web page no matter what browser i use

Ok on my MacBook i am unable to view a web site no matter what browser i use. If i go to another computer in my network i am able to view this site. If i take my laptop to another network it will still not work. I have run permissions and disk warrior. I did try a few things with onyx as well but was not so sure what i was doing. Any suggestions?

What is the error?
The DNS cache could be stuck.
In the Terminal try:dig www.macupdate.comIt should reply that it is 70.86.154.194.
If that doesn't work, you DNS is not working and pointing you to the wrong place.
You can try clearing the DNS cache with dscacheutil -flushcacheAlmost forgot to mention: there are several threads on similar problems.

Any browser is supposed to work, provided the rest of the infrastructure (Flash, Java) is up to date.
However, since FB is so prone to install/modify/alter its settings/cookies/environment, I prefer to keep mine sandboxed and access it only via a dedicated browser used for nothing else, thus minimizing the risk and exposure. Opera not responding to launch...What's the best browser to use?

Opera just went through an upgrade a few days ago. It worked fine before and up until today. Now, I click the app icon - a quick jump in the dock, but no response (and no blue dot to indicate it's open). I've tried right click and open, same thing. I've tried closing it, now I can't even get it to open on the dock again. What's up with this? Is this a good browser? To uninstall Opera completely, you must delete the following folders and files:
~/Library/Application Support/Opera/
~/Library/Caches/Opera/
~/Library/Preferences/com.operasoftware.Opera.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.operasoftware.OperaWidgets.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Opera Preferences/
Starting with the Cache folder is a good idea. That way you don’t loose any settings or data.
Alternately, you can just try starting Opera from another account on your machine. The Guest account is a good place to start testing.

There are also iSwifter, Photon, Skyfire, etc., some only support Flash some support Java and Flash.
Adobe never made a version of Flash for iOS and closed their mobile flash division a couple of years ago. You can get Flash on other personal devices but you will be using a 2 year old version that has not been patched for security vulnerabilities.
When the original iPhone was released Mr. Jobs said it would never run Java as it was old technology and a security risk. Nothing has changed since.

The .11 update for 10.4 was the last update for that version. Updates like the .11 are incremental and free, upgrades like to 10.6 are usually paid upgrades and different than updates. Confused yet? LOL. Apples last upgrade to 10.9 is free, and the only upgrade that I'm aware of that Apple has given away. Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements to run 10.6.x before you purchase anything, you may need to upgrade your ram depending on how much you have installed.

AVG causes adobe flash player to crash every browser I use

As my thread subject says, when I have the free version of AVG installed it causes adobe flash to crash any web browser I use. I have tried reinstalling everything and ran registry cleaners and nothing I do seems to fix it. If I uninstall AVG, adobe flash no longer crashes my browsers. But as soon as I put AVG back on, bam - the problem is back. Also if I uninstall adobe flash while AVG is installed, I can view any website just fine. Does anyone have any idea what this problem may be? Any help as to how to fix this will be appreciated.

Ok, Stay in IE and we'll get it cleaned up. Go to Control Panel>Add Remove and find Adobe Download Manager and Remove it. Then just close Add/Remove and close Control Panel. Go back to Tools>Manage Add ons and do this:
Safe Search, if it is Enabled , with the mouse, hi light it, go down where it says Enabled/Disabled and click on DISABLE.
Do the same thing with Adobe DLM, Windows Messenger, Windows Live Sign in Helper.
Make note of anything that IS enabled. It should only be Shockwave Flash Object, you want that ENABLED
Click ok
Then I want you to go to www.sunmicrosystems and download and install Java, you will see on the top left side a coffee cup (steaming:-) and the word JAVA, click on that and follow the instructions.
After that reboot your computer and post back if any problem.
WATCH THAT YOU DON'T PICK UP ANY TOOLBARS FROM THE JAVA DOWNLOAD, CHECK CAREFULLY
While you are doing that, I'm going to have a coffee:-)

The Operating System is what controls the incoming and outgoing connections, so that is really a Windows support issue.
The only thing that I can think of is to ask in one of the Satellite forums over here, for some ideas on how you might accomplish that:

Satellite internet works similar to that, the download comes by Satellite, and the upload goes out by dial-up or other land connection.
