Codec error when rendering stills

I have a sequence with a timebase of 30fps. I import a still .png file for use as a graphic overlay. It has a transparancy channel. It imports with a timebase of 29.97 for some reason.
I drop it on a separate video track in the sequence, and render-that's when I get a "codec error" message. the sequence compressor is set to h.264 and the still is of course .png.
Any hints as to why I am getting this error and how I might fix it? I have tried many formats for importing the still.
Thanks,
Matt

Is the still in the RGB colour space or CMTK? It has to be RGB to work.

  • Error when rendering! Desperately in need of help!

Just out of nowhere I´m getting this error when rendering in a ProRes project:
"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card"
I have done nothing with my setup and have never had problems with this before. What can I do to fix this?

I started getting this error after exporting prores 422 (and 422 HQ) files from AE and dropping them into FCP. It happened a couple of days ago, right after I updated to QT 7.6.2. i checked out the details on the QT update and the update seems to focus on prores 422 functionality. so i think your theory about this having something to do with the update is spot on.
my solution was to export out of AE using photo-jpeg. it's pretty close to identical on the visual and color correctable if not. this project has the flexibility for this type of codec switch since everything originates in AE -- you may not have that flexibility.

  • I keep getting "codec error" when trying to render my transitions. I tried changing my codec but then I have to render my entire footage.

The first screenshot is my raw footage info.
The second screenshot is what I set my sequence to.  This made me able to edit without rendering, but now that I am putting in transitions, I have to render and when I try to render it says "codec error".  Anyone know what I'm missing?

When I go to Easy Setup I don't see ProRes there either.

  • CODEC Error when exporting from Timeline solution

This is a stupid mistake, but when I was just in Final Cut Pro 7 trying to "Export Using Quicktime Conversion" I got a "CODEC Error" message and couldn't export. I tried changing the CODEC in my Sequence Settings, still got the error, I started freaking out thinking I had to delete the preference files; but I suddenly realized I had the "In" marker at the end of the video on the Timeline.
Solution: "Clear IN and OUT" markers on the Timeline (right-click on Timeline, Clear In and Out).
Check the simple things first! lol

Or...don't choose QUICKTIME CONVERSION, as that will recompress your sequence and footage...even if you choose the same codec. Try Quicktime Movie, self contain as an option.

  • Out of memory error when rendering.

I edited a 40 minute show (25P) using Aspect 3.4 codec. When I export to DVD in low quality 1 pass everything is okay. However, when I export to DVD in High Quality 1 pass or low quality 2 pass I get an error half way through the rendering (out of memory error). What's the story?

    Try:
    Error:Out of memory

  • When rendered, still images appear in low quality

    Hello everyone.
I'm facing an interesting dilemna with Adobe Premiere Elements 8. It usually works fine for me, and with time I have learned to fix most of the details that usually bother unexperienced users such as me.
What happens is that I'm importing still images (JPEG) to my video, and when rendered they're final quality appears to be so low. I mean, you can see the pixels very large, square-like, you know... as if I had a small image and had it stretched out a lot, but that was not the case at all.
I never had this problem before, and I can't recall anything different on my part in this new video.
Any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks everyone.

    Hi everybody,
It is a bit late to join this discussion but for vacation reasons I didn't follow the PE-Forum for a while.
I think I have a comparable problem like fmrees: Since a couple of days the resolution of the Preview in PE8 is rather poor. Unfortunately I can't say exactly when it startet. Maybe it begun after I rendered the project.
After having read this issue I deleted the rendered files, looked at the preview: still the same. Re-rendering didn't improve the result.
The difference between the problem of fmrees and mine is: I do not use at all still images. The only video sources are AVI-Files from MiniDV.
I looked at other PE-projects I didn't touch for several week: I have the same problem! So probably it is something in the PE- or project-settings, but I have no idea what it could be (I am rather a newbee in PE).

  • File Not Found Error When Rendering Motion Menu

    Hi there.
I'm attempting to render a motion menu and keep getting the error "file not found". All of the necessary files are available and no specific missing file is mentioned.
The background video is a .m2v, and there is a .wav audio file too. They are 42 seconds long.
I tried other Encore projects and 2 others are doing the same thing, or coming up with a 'General Error'.
I have cleaned the Database in the Media Cache. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Encore. There are no updates available.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

Yeah, it would have taken me quite a while to redo the menus completely!  So I was very thankful for the save to menu template option.
When I (not recently, thank goodness!) have a project I suspect of corruption, I create a new project, and just "import as menu" from the old menu subdirectory. The method you used deletes the  menus, so exporting the menus helps.
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    That's Snow Leopard, right?
Actually, I'm not really sure about Encore terminology (this was my first project), but the only motion I have in my menus is the line that appears under the button text when that button is highlighted.  At one point I had the photo buttons (for videos) set to animate, but I removed that option.
A highlight is just a highlight, not "motion." Animated buttons, when rendered as the menu, are actually a video background, so that was a motion menu.
All 30 slideshows are actually individual video timelines.  They were created and exported from Photosho Lightroom 3.
In Encore terminology, those are just videos - many Encore users choose to do slideshows as videos.
I had originally tried creating each one as a slideshow from within Encore, but I was DEEPLY dismayed by how slow Encore became, evetually locking up at least once per hour.  It was ridiculous, even taking into account the fact that it is not a 64-bit program.  I planned to leave 2 of the songs as Encore slideshows (Lightroom can't do Pan/Zoom), but in the end I had to replace them with mp4s because the slideshows just would not play.  Really, it was about 11 wasted days plus 4 productive days to get me through the project!
Encore has a variety of problems with slideshows, but I suspect from your description that you were using very large images. Scaling them down a bit can improve performance.

  • Error when rendering for Flash

I have had two projects crash when rendering an Encore CS3 project.
The info in the data collection is:
    AppName: adobe encore.exe AppVer: 3.0.1.8 ModName: dvacore.dll
    ModVer: 2.0.0.60016 Offset: 0008bdb3
    Any clues?

OK... I use Premiere Pro and then encode files with an application called Cinema Craft for m2v files. These are loaded into Encore and authored for dvd, tested and all work fine.
With two projects, encore crashes with the error I mentioned in my first post. Others have gone through fine but are consistent with how I always create projects.
I do work with a Matrox RXT.100 board with PP2.0 and have seen posts that PP CS# does not like rxt.100. This should not have any bearing on projects that are exported into m2v or wav and then imported into Encore CS3.
Is it best NOT to export into an mgp format and let Encore transcode video?
If more info is needed I would be glad to supply.

  • Encounter "GENERAL ERROR" when rendering

What makes general error when try render certain section in the timeline and how to over come it or prevent it ?

It can be any section. In fact it occurred in my original project. In order not to spoil my original project, I started copying section by section and render it bit by bit. And I found out it can happen to any section. I discovered that there are certain parts when I add transition and render it, then the message "general error" will show. So I cannot put any transition on that part. And I have to undo it. As far as my scratch disk, I am using external hard disc 1 tb, but left only 82 gb.

  • After Effects error when rendering

"After Effects error: Rendering error while writing file "file_name". An output module failed. The file maybe damaged or corrupted (-1610153464)"
file rendered successfully in draft and poor quality but this error is when best quality.
Tried saving into different location, rendered but the finished film kept stopping every 2 seconds and took 7GB of space. The film is meant to be 55 seconds long.

You are using the default Animation codec which is the default codec. You should really study up on rendering and formats. I'm guessing that your connection to the external drive had some data rate problems or started dropping bits. Try another cable or render to your boot drive. You've scaled your latest screenshots to the point where they are very difficult to read, but it looks like everything else is normal except that your top screenshot shows the only footage in the shot looks like it came from a GoPro and your composition frame rate in the Render Settings is showing up as 24. It's not likely that that is the actual frame rate of the footage. Select the footage in the composition in the Project Panel and check out the frame rate. If it is 59.94 then your comp should either be 29.97 or 59.94. Because of the size I suspect that the frame rate is not 24 but 23.976.
This probably did not cause your problem but frame rates are important to understand and use properly.

  • Error when rendering XDP

So I'm rendering PDFs and XDPs via the renderPDFForm web service. I can render a PDF with no problems, but when I try to render an XDP, I get the following error:

I get a similar error if I try to render an XDP as HTML using the renderHTMLForm web service.
This just started once I started using ADEP/LiveCycle 10. It worked fine with LC 9.

  • 'Could not create the file...' 'Access was denied.' and 'Cannot close a closed file.' Errors When Rendering Image Sequence

    Hello,
I am getting the below error messages when I render a TIFF image sequence using default settings. I have double-checked and I have read-write privileges for the file destination. I have also emptied the Disk Cache and Cleaned the Database. My system set-up is also below - there was no error log. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated as this keeps happening.

  • Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

    Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
    Many thanks
    Rachel

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

Thanks again for posting a reply

  • Adobe Premier Elements 12 , Unknown errors when rendering or saving or making DVD's

We purchased this software in January and have had little success it getting it to work as the errors which appear have no details to work on. the most popular error is unknown error , error converting, error rendering project. But this does not tell us what to do to fix the problem, and the staff are losing confidence in the software.
We have made sure that the users have local Full admin rights to the PC's the software is on.
Also we have second drives installed so they can put all the photos and videos and music locally ready to make the film,
We have made sure that the program also caches locally so there's no network traffic issues.
We have tried using the project archive before and also changing footage speeds as some images are from Ipads, some from cameras etc which have different rates
Some films have been fixed by removing the transitions which the programs supplies for use but have caused it to crash, but also the title pages have caused problems.
When we make the projects we also tell everyone to check that the render line is green and check for gaps etc,
We need the software to be more user friendly as it does not explain what to do when these errors occur so we try everything we have in the past but this is crazy as its very time consuming and defeats the object of buying special software to make the job easier as they were using movie maker before . Please can you help as we are losing total confidence with the product.

    John,
Great link.  One of the terrific things about Adobe software is how many independent and Adobe sources of information exist.  Your link is like a reference library.
My point in writing about Steve's work with Linda.com is that it is a "course".  It has an organized beginning and end.  It has a consistent teacher throughout that is following a "lesson plan".  It has a beginning that lays a foundation and continues to stack learning blocks on that foundation.  It has an end where the student has achieved a level of competence.  It is not random links to topics.
I've toured the internet and found specific video answers for various editing challanges.  But so far, I've not found any other organized courses that come close to the Lynda.com standard of teaching.
