Codec Overrun And Invalid Checksum

Over the past 2 months, I have been having issues downloading the iPhone SDK. I started attempting to download the dmg from the iPhone Dev Center from 2.2 and since the day Apple releases 3.0. I have downloaded over 30 times and every single time, I tried to mount the DMG, it is either Invalid Checksum or Codec Overrun. I tried downloading other DMGs and what strikes me was that any DMG below 1GB, seems to mount successfully. Those that are above (like the iPhone SDK), are giving errors. Even if I skip the validation part, which forces the DMG to mount successfully, I would end up failing in installation.
There are countless written cases around this when googled, and I've tried every one of them, short of a complete re-installation of Leopard. And even that, I am not sure it will work as some have written to say that they have tried but unsuccessful. From changing the router, to stopping internet sharing to disabling all firewall and security and even repairing all disk permission and clearing all cache! Majority of people have this codec overrun issue, none has actually posted a resolution. What bugs me was that even RAR files that I download gets CRC failures and I am not sure if this is related to the DMG problems.
If there are anyone out there who has this resolved, please share... you will save a lot of people with tremendous amount of hassle. If any Apple Technician is reading this, please acknowledge and rectify... this is the single most frustrating problem with Leopard. Do a google on 'Codec Overrun' and you will hit countless users expressing their frustration over this issue. I had zero problems with downloads on Tiger, but ever since Leopard, this is showing up so often and I am surprise it only exist on the Macs. I am not sure who's fault lies with such download problem, the ISP, any hardware, the software or the OS... but I am certain that this has every bit to do with the Mac OS. It doesn't explain why Tiger is perfectly ok with downloads and eversince Leopard, it's not.

Strongly suggest posting to the appropriate forum under OS X Technologies where the Unix and developers hang out.

  • INVALID CHECKSUM: Motorola SBG6580 wireless modem router and software updates (10.7.4)

Tried to install 10.7.4 via software update dropdown on my MacMini over ethernet on my home computer network, failed.  Downloaded Combo Client 10.7.4 update from apple.com. Downloaded fine.  Failed to mount with invalid checksum error.  Tried to download on Win7 Dell laptop on my same home network via Wi-Fi, and copied to MacMini via USB flashdrive.  Copied ok, but mounting returned invalid checksum again.  Went to work, downloaded Combo Client 10.7.4 onto USB flashdrive, came home, copied it, mounted and installed just fine!
So, kept trying to download Combo Client from apple.com on my home MacMini.  Kept failing, invalid checksum. Did this about 20 times during a few days, and actually got two of them to mount without the checksum error.  Realized that something in my network was failing, intermittently.
Figured at this point it was either the Motorola SBG6580 modem wireless router or Comcast cable ISP service.
Went to best buy and bought a new Motorola SurfBoard SBG6580.  Installed it, provisioned it with Comcast.  Took about 20 mins with Comcast pushing over the same new Motorola firmware that was released in MID FEB 2012.  I think it is 3.3.1.  Tried to download Combo Client and invalid checksum again. Installed a new Motorola SurfBoard SB6121 modem (which has a very different firmware BTW) and it download and mounted the Combo Client 10.7.4 update just fine!
Realized it was the firmware that was causing it, not a broken modem.
Comcast pushes over cable automatically new firmware that is given to them by Motorola.  Apparently no did a thorough check large DMG files that require a checksum and it is therefore somehow corrupting them when downloading.  Earlier this year the firmware was updated 3.1 to 3.3.1 then Comcast pulled it and downgraded all SBG6580 back to 3.1.  Then in mid Feb they reuploaded 3.3.1 firmware.  That is the one causing the problems.
You can either wait it out till they push a new one that fixes it, and have all your large DMG files transferred from another internet connection and copy them over, or just get rid of that horrible SBG6580.  That is what I did and now using a Motorola SB6121 modem with a Cisco EA2700 wireless routher.
Let me know if any of you are also experiencing this issue and if/when Comcast/Motorola will fix it.

No, nothing custom that I did. Besides turning off the WPS thing as a possible security problem (we dont need it anyway) and setting the wireless passwords/SSID/channel stuff, everything is as it was factory or changed by Comcasts profile.
It's obvious if you replaced the SBG6580 with a two-peice combo and the problem went away, that it seems to be with the SBG6580. Just weird to me becuase a problem like that would almost seem more like a hard disk or web browser problem. TCP/IP has a checksum/retransmission layer or protocol built in, if short or defective packets show up, they would be sent again.
I mean I've seen like cheap 24 port 10/100mb switches running at 100% throughput, to the point they reboot. Anything connected to them stops or slows down but generally get going where they left off, unless the connection got severed.
I'm just saying a bad iso or dmg file, had to had bytes changed or missing, like the web browsers buffer or a bad block write on the disk drive saving it. There was a lot of talk about the SBG6580 on dslreports and comcast discussion groups, would be interesting to see if anyone else mentioned it for that model.

  • Programs not installing - invalid checksum and errors

I have tried installing a few programs recently and they download, but then when I click to install them it says invalid checksum.
The programs I have tried are Adobe reader and a Safari update. I tried downloading Adobe reader about 6 times on different days and the same error occurred. Of course both are reputable programs.
Last night I tried to download Apple Software Updates which were over 2gb and took 10 hours to download. They produced an error report saying that there was a file error and try again...... of course im not happy because that chewed up a lot of my internet limit and took forever
Does anyone have any solutions to these installation errors?

  • G5 10.5.8 Combo Update codec overrun - install fails

    Hi,
I still have my first mac, a Power Mac G5, but it has been acting as a center speaker stand for some time now. A couple of years ago it started playing up, I spent hours and pounds trying to fix it, gave up and bought a shiny new iMac. So with the festive season upon us and orders to tidy up, I thought I'd have one last try at fixing it before turning it into a drinks cabinet.
As I recall, it all started to go wrong one day when I tried to download a large update to something. When I tried to install the update I got a Codec Overrun error and/or a Corrupt File message. As it stands today the machine is running a clean install of OSX 10.5.6 and I am failing to install the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg upgrade. I currently have 2 copies of the update.
One copy on the desktop  was downloaded directly from the Apple support site. The .dmg opens and verifies OK and I can launch the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.pkg. This runs through the installation sequence, past the password but finally comes up with an error message "Install Failed. The installer could not validate the contents of the 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Another copy in my downloads folder, put there by the Software Updater, doesn't get that far. It comes up with "Warning,The following disk image failed to mount. Image - MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg, Reason - codec overrun."
    So far I have tried:-
Memory - run third party memory checker application (can't remember which one) and found no faults.Tried different set of memory cards
Hard disk - run all the disk check and repair utilities, re-formatted, repartitioned. Tried a different hard disk.
OSX 10.5.6 - reinstalled from original disks several times.
MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8 - downloaded via Software Updater process and direct from Apple Support website. Downloaded via wi-fi, ethernet, different Mac, different PC. Always get the exact same file size.
    Resetting the PRAM etc
    New standby battery
    Installing in Safe Mode
    Swearing.
None of this has worked. I get some different error messages but they are all variations of "codec overrun", "corrupt file" or "Install failure"
Anyone got any other ideas? Or should I just get on with the drinks cabinet conversion?
    Thanks

That message isn't a space available message. If you bring up Disk Utility, how does it say the partition is formatted, ie, partition format, write status, and partition map scheme? Assume SMART status is verified, yes?

  • OS UPDATE / Invalid Checksum / Appstore / Main Apple web page

Hi.. I know this conversation closed many months ago but I am having the same problem. I have just turned on one of my Macbooks and it indicated via the MacStore that I needed the recent update of IOSX software. Currently I am running 10.8.2... and it showed that I needed the new update of 10.8.3
I clicked on the download button and after download it came back with a message to say the file had been corrupted during download. I tried to download it again via the App Store but it then said that there are no current updates or all updates are current. I checked to make sure that the existing software had not updated and it had not. So I went to the Apple webpage where you are able to download files directly from the site. http://support.apple.com/downloads/
I then tried to download the 10.8.3 combo software... After about 35 mins I tried to install it from the Download file
After validating the file which is normal.. It cam back with an error - "Invalid Checksum" So I deleted the file from downloads and tried again.... Same thing...
I then tried to download the smaller update file (the one below in the image) -
Less time to download but came back with the same error.
So in short I am unable to download this update... I am getting the same error message "Invalid Checksum" when I use either the AppStore or the main Apple software update page on the web..
Anyone suggest anything? I have tried to download this a couple of times now and am getting the same results.
    Appreciate any help or advise.

Interesting. I went to apple.com and dragged the url to the dock. There is a clickable space created, which displays "Apple" when you hover over it. I can click on it successfully, as you say. And I can drag it off the dock as usual. But there is no icon!  I tried a couple of other websites -- same result!
    A small bug, I guess.
This behavior persists in all my user accounts.
    Can others confirm?

  • Problems with the CS6 Master Collection disk image (invalid checksum)

I have problems downloading the trial for CS6 Master Collection for MacOS X.
I've tried downloading using the Download Assistant, both as a privileged and an unprivileged user, and have also tried the direct download as both privileged and unprivileged. Each time I've waited until the download was complete before trying to install, but every time the disk image fails to open, complaining of an "invalid checksum".
I've tried mounting the disk image without validating the checksum, but while I can then run the installer, the installation fails due to lack of privileges – again, this is regardsless of user privileges. I've also tried deleting the preferences and cache-files for Download Assistant, but to no avail.
Can anyone confirm that the english version of the CS6 Master Collecion disk image is working and can be mounted without error on MacOS X 10.7? I have now downloaded and re-downloaded the disk image at least eight times, and while I have a fast Internet-connection, this is getting tedious.

I just downloaded the DMG from Adobe.com using the trial and it mounts fine. I was able to start the installation.
I did not get a checksum error or any other error.
However, I found these instructions in another thread:http://forums.adobe.com/message/4370247#4370247
    <quote>
If the download is completed in the Adobe Download Assistant you can temporarily turn off the feature to verify the checksum.  The following steps will allow you to temporarily disable this feature:
Open the Disk Utility located in Applications/Utilities
Go under the Disk Utility menu and select preferences
Deselect the option to verify checksums
    Try mounting your DMG file
I would recommend turning this feature back on though after the installation is complete.  Also if you notice this happening on additional files it can indicate a problem with your Internet connection.
    </quote>
Could you try these steps and let us know if you were able to proceed.

  • Invalid Checksum when trying to update MAC OS X 10.6.4

Hi all.  I own a 15 inch laptop mac i purchased in 2009.  I have recently realised that my MAC software has not been updating or installing correctly.  I tried to manually download the software 10.6.5 ( as i currently have 10.6.4) and it came back with an invalid checksum error.  I retried the download several times and got the same error.  I also tried other downloads and also got the invalid checksum error. (.DWG files).
Another thing that seemed strange was that i had been trying to download 'star walk app' for my iphone and also a jamie oliver recipe app however these files seemed to keep restarting their download due to errors.
I have done some research and the possible issues i have come across are:
    - possible internet connection error.  This doesnt seem to be the problem as i can stream youtube etc with no issues..
    - possible RAM error.  How do i check this is the problem without purchasing new RAM chip?
    - corrupt download.  Cant be this due to all my files being corrupt.
Can anyone help me further with trying to solve this issue?
I have been so happy with changing to the Apple life and now i am starting to regret it as i am finding it near impossible to repair my laptop....
    Any help is appreciated, Thanks

If you think your Mac is having hardware problems, I'd run the diagnostics that came with your Mac.  If the diagnostics came on a separate disc, run them by holding down the "C" key while booting with that disc in the drive.  If you only have one "system restore" disc, hold down the "D" key while booting with that disc in the drive.

  • Invalid checksum for iTunes? ... can't download large apps?

    I've noticed two things.
First, I've tried to download iTunes 11 from both the app store and a straight download, and, both ways (and every time -- 7 tries now), I get an invalid checksum. I've downloaded from Chrome; I've downloaded from Safari. I can't imagine the source is the problem, so what's happening there? My network connection seem otherwise solid, based on my ping rate to California, and standard web use.
Secondly, iTunes 10 won't download large apps. Neither the 'Magic the Gathering' update or the 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City' app will download. (Both of those weigh in at over a gig.) At some point during the download, I get the warning, "An unknown error occurred (-50)." Smaller apps seem fine.
This is with a late 2008 13-inch Macbook Pro running 10.8.2.
    Help? ... and thank you!

Just need to find a way to get a hold of someone who can fix this.

  • Premiere Elements 12 invalid checksum

I have just downloaded Elements 12, then I clicked on Install...it goes through then a message comes up saying disk images couldn't be opened due to an "invalid Checksum"
    How do I fix this?
I have seen this problem on other products and my internet connect, my Wifi, is very strong..all bars on my macbook are black.
So I'm not sure what the problem is.

    Iregis13
Did you download Premiere Elements 12 Mac from Adobe or from some place else? Is the download a tryout or purchased?
    Have you tried the uninstall/reinstall?
Cant install premiere elements cd or online trial on Mac
Please read through the suggestions for "Invalid Checksum" offered in a Photoshop Elements issue.
None of them worked for that users, but one of them, especially the one from Adobe Staff, might work for you.
Re: Can't install photoshop elements 10 on Mac OS X 10.9.2...
If you need to get an alternative source of download files, please see the following web site
    http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-12-direct-download-links-premiere.html
It is critical that you read and carry out the web site's "Note: Very Important Instructions" and "here" in order to avoid an Access Denied message.
Are you saying that you have tried to install other video editors on your Mac and have run into the same error? Or are you just reading about other
    reports of "Invalid Checksum".

  • Invalid Checksum Error for Photoshop Elements 10 installation

I have tried installing Photoshop Elements 10 on my Macbook but I got an "invalid checksum" error (saying that the following disk images couldn't be opened).  Was there a previous solution to this type of problem?

That response is not at all helpful.  I have no idea what you were referring to, but there is no pale yellow bar at the top of the forum when I am looking at it now.
In the future, consider posting a URL or something else that will continue to be relevant and useful in a persistent way.  Perhaps typing a sentence or two about what's going on if you know.  If it seems obvious to you, that doesn't mean it will be in the future to others having the same problem.

  • How do I address codec overrun error to install a .dmg

I want to free up space on my hard drive so I downloaded and tried to install Singular 0.8.1 from the download link on the apple site. I receive the error "codec overrun" upon installation. Any ideas why this is occurring or suggestions how to correct would be appreciated.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    1. If you are running 10.3.9 as your profile suggests, you probably should be posting to a forum for that OS version. (This one is for Tiger, OS 10.4.x installation & setup issues.)
    2. Check your free drive space. You should have at least 5-10 GB free or OS X won't run properly. Do not attempt to add applications if you have less than this much free space. Instead, manually move files to other media (such as CD's or DVD's, other drives, etc.) before proceeding.

  • Error "Unkown Bravo Error" and "Invalid Container Error"

I am trying to render in After effects and keep getting the error "Unkown Bravo Error" and "Invalid Container Error". What do I do to resolve this?

Try using the "secret" preferences to purge every couple of frames. If you hold Shift while clicking on After Effects > Preferences > General, the Secret menu should pop up in the sidebar of the Preferences dialog.
Alternatively, if rendering to a QuickTime with the video codec set to PNG instead of Animation didn't work, try rendering to a PNG sequence and not a video format at all.
