Codec pack for QuickTime like Windows?

Hello,
I'm wondering why there is no any codec pack for QuickTime in Mountain Lion like windows? or why Apple just can't support .mkv files?
QuickTime really has a great quality than other players and I hope Apple or some developer make something good like windows Codec pack.. they have got always codec pack for windows but for mac never or so hard to find.
I hope apple consider this..!!!
Developer please make something like that and sure all will buy it from appstore you guys would be rich.. come on.. if it would cost 1$ you would be rich but you can make it more like 5 to 10 or more $
Best regards,
Alex

Apple's position is that H.264 is a modern highly efficient codec that is suitable for all uses (which is true enough). However a lot of files already exist in other formats. Sometimes it seems some people wilfully choose the most esoteric codec possible just to make life difficult.
The nearest you can get to a codec pack on the Mac is Perian. This adds support to QuickTime for many formats including MKV files.
You can get Perian here http://perian.org/
It might also be worth installing Flip4Mac which adds support for playing WMV files, you can get it here http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/overview.htm

  • Microsoft Camera Codec Pack for Windows 10?

Is there a version of Microsoft Camera Codec Pack that works in Windows 10 technical preview? I'm having problems installing the latest for Windows 8.1, more accurately it won't install whatever I do, regardless of compatibility mode.

I may have expressed myself badly. I did not had problems with this in Windows 8 and 8.1.
I am only having problems installing the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack in Windows 10 (to be more specific, Enterprise Edition, build 9926).
My best guess is the changed system numbering is behind the problem, which you pointed out right.

  • Need codec pack for h.264 to play .mp4

I bought a motor sports camera that records HD format that doesn't seem to work with any media player I have!
I quote from their website under the trouble shooting section:
"+If using Windows Media Player or Movie Maker, make sure you download the latest HD-capable version and also download a H.264 decoder to update media or movie maker. CoreCodec CoreAVC is one company that offers a codec pack for h.264.+
+VLC media player is another video media player program that you can download for free, which supports .mp4 h.264 files+"
I don't use PC, I am using my MacBook Pro and I have iTunes, iMovie, VLC, QuickTime Pro, DivX and Real Player but none can run the recorded movies.
Any help would be appreciated. And thanks in advance to all.

Thanks to nobody as I see nobody jumped in... but it turned out to be a problem with the camera itself. Shipped it back and got it replaced. And the problem disappeared.

  • Avi codec pack for mac??

    Hi,
We have recently switched over a few mac machines and are slowly getting the hang of them. After having issues playing back avi's on the machine i have downloaded the Perian codec pack for mac which allows me to play the files in quicktime etc and get audio output. I still have the problem however that when imported into Premiere/Encore etc i get video but no audio??? I dont want to have to convert all the files into compatible mac files as i just want a codec to install which will play them and solve the problem. The files are DivX codec built.
I find it odd that files will play with audio in quicktime on the machine but not in the adobe software. Tried reading around this on the web but have turned up nothing after Perian that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Thanks Hunt,
You seem to reply to most of these posts, so thank you very much for giving up your time to help others, much appreciated.
I have both converted the files - in a rather drawn out way through a couple of freeware programs to give me an mp3 audio file macs don't seem to mind - and and burnt DVD's on mac and PC to check for quality on both machines.
We have to work with DivX a bit for clients to create conference openers etc and if they specify footage from the web etc its generally the only format we can get it in on short notice. Horrible but the way of the world it seems.
Currently running mac book pro's for on site edit machines on the highest specs available for purchase i.e. i7 processor 7200rpm internal hard drive etc and Adobe CS5 and have to say that the 'macs never fall over' hype isn't true. Apart from having their file preferences for use which is a pain when crossing projects over from both platforms i have found both new macs crash when worked hard using premiere, after effects and photoshop/illustrator. We find CS5 has far fewer bugs and is more stable than CS4 mind you.
I'm sure that may queue mac lovers to put me straight on the much fabled shiny machines however.
    Cheers, Ian

  • What's a good codec pack for Mac?

My friend recommended K-Lite Codec Pack, but it only works on PC and I have a Mac. Is there a good codec pack for Mac?

That's not a "codec pack" issue, you just need a good all purpose conversion tool or two. Apple Compressor works well as do all of the other products mentioned here. Another good tool is a cheap PC with free Microsoft Encoder (or whatever they're calling it these days). You can pull in all kinds of aggressively non-Mac friendly files and output to any of several lowest common denominators.
Bringing in weird and highly compressed consumer movie files isn't as simple as converting to an editing codec (which raises the question, why are you bringing these clips into AE and not Premiere?) you also need to figure out how to do frame rate conversions, scale adjustments, and color space tweaks.

  • Windows codec pack for 7D Mark ii CR2's

    Hi,
For all my previous Canon camera's the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (6.3.9721.0) was sufficient to view the CR2 files in picture viewer & explorer, a feature I enjoy very much to quickly delete blurry pictures or pictures with a bad frame.
CR2's from my new Canon 7D Mark ii don't seem supported by this codec pack yet. Any other ways to view CR2's in explorer/picture viewer?
    Kind regards,
    Arne

It's normally that when a brand new camera hits the market there can be a bit of a delay before 3rd party vendors support that new camera's RAW files.
I see that Adobe has support for it as does Apple.  I see somewhat recent updates from them (December) that now include support for the 7D II.
But as I check the Microsoft website, I am unable find a Camera Codec pack released after 4/2014 -- which is prior to the release of the 7D II camera.  That would imply that many owners of recently released camera models are in the same boat with you.  You're waiting on Microsoft to release an update to have native support in Windows.
It used to be at least a 3-6 month wait for RAW support from anyone other than Canon (after release of a new model).  But I've noticed in recent years that Adobe and Apple are now MUCH faster about getting the RAW support out to the public.
The work-arounds are to (a) use Adobe to convert your RAW images or (b) use the Canon utilites to convert your RAW images.  Adobe would let you convert them to .DNG (Adobe's universal "digital negative" format -- their version of RAW).  Using the Canon EOS Utility you can convert them to TIFF, which is 16bit and lossless (so you keep all the adjustment latitude you wanted out of a RAW image.)

  • Codec pack for Mac?

    Hello,
My mom just got a brand new Imac. She lives about 300 miles from me, so my help to her is limited. I was there when she ordered it and to help her set it up. But now I'm home again.
I downloaded and installed codecs from Apple's Quicktime site. That fixed a few things.
I've been exposed to PCs for quite some time and have found it much easier to dload a codec pack that includes everything a typical user would ever require for playback of video in Media Player. I haven't seen anything like that for Mac. Do they exist? Where could I find them?
    Thank you

  • Cannot change codec settings for Quicktime export?

I have Quicktime installed, and it shows up as an Export option in Premiere Pro. However the options are extremely limited. Under the Video tab, there is a button for "Codec Settings" but it is greyed out. You can't choose whether you want CBR or VBR. Under the Audio tab, there is also a "Codec Settings" tab, but it too is greyed out. I can't even change the bitrate settings for AAC audio. Actually, it doesn't even tell you what bitrate it's exporting at, let alone let you change it.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

    Possibly.
Some codecs have settings and some don't. If you pick one off of the list that has settings, you will have more success at changing parameters.
First things first. Does your list of codecs look something like this? If so, select the appropriate codec for your needs and see if it has options. None of the Quicktime exports has the option of changing from CBR to VBR as far as I can tell and to be honest I don't know which is being used. You didn't say if you were on a Mac or a PC but if you are on a PC you might consider using an H.264 export instead.

  • How can you get apple updates for apple like windows updates?

where does apple gets its updates

By default, Software Update will automatically check for updates on a regular basis.
You can adjust what those settings are. To do that, choose System Preferences in the Apple menu; in the new window, click the icon for Software Update. The window will change to reflect the current settings for Software Update -
You can change those settings if you wish.
Note the selection button for "Installed Software" near the top of that window - if you click that, it will display a list of all software updates that have been installed.

  • Can't uninstall QuickTime or open iTunes, thanks 2 Ace Mega Codec Pack???

Everything was fine, updated my 60gb iPod everyday and played iTunes daily. (Happy Days) Until one fine day, i decided to download Ace Mega Codec Pack.(Sad Days) It all starts here... Ever since then I have not been able to open my precious iTunes, Getting this message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
So here's what I’ve tried, Possibly making matters worse, I uninstalled Ace Mega Codec pack immediately and when prompted that some files I was removing was shared I said, Whatever and deleted them anyways in hope iTunes would just work after uninstalling! What a mess.
I then tried iTunes again with no joy, So I uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled and still the same message: *ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
I then read on a thread somewhere that, if I reinstall QuickTime, it should work.
And when trying to uninstall QuickTime I get this (+Add or remove programs+) message: *Fatal error during installation*. with no error code.
I just don’t know what to do, I’m on the verge of reinstalling Windows! (I bet things like this don’t happen on a Mac.)!!
Well I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone could give me,
    Thanks a million,

Ok, I actually fixed this cannot delete old Quicktime files based on Apple's guidance on support. I had done this step yesterday, and must have missed a few files. This is going into the System32 folder through my computer. I deleted the Itunes, Ipod and Quicktime folders, but did not realize that I had to continue scrolling because there were these two file name were at the end, and not in a folder, so they weren't deleted the first go around. So I deleted, then reinstalled on my C drive (not the default Program Files) as someone else here had instructed, and Quicktime is now working! Now, I will attempt ITunes....wish me luck!
Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder.

  • Trouble exporting any mov files into H264 after adding K-Lite codec pack into Windows XP SP3.

I have QuickTime 7.7 (1680.34) installed. I have used it extensively and exported the video separate from the audio and extracted and used filters and it has all worked great with all of the other codecs I have had installed. It even worked great after I recently installed this K-Lite codec pack that actually saved files in a *.hdmov file type and I was able to view them with the Media Player Classic .... (I have Windows XP update 3)  and see what I could do over there and then go back to saving them as *.mov file types and work in QuickTime Pro. And still export them relatively fast to their latest H264 format.
I gave more file types to the Media Player Classic. I think along the line of the just the *.3g2 and *.mp4 and took them away from QuickTime but still keeping the *.mov, *.qt and *.mqv  file types .... and that is when I think everything must have changed.  all of a sudden I can not save any *.hdmov files and the export process in QuickTime takes longer than forever.
I thought that I had reconfigured Media Player Classic back to its default ....
and it should all go back to being how it was.
Is there some Direct Show filter or codec that upsets QuickTime Pro ... that I might have not reset back to what it was?
Any codec help would be much appreciated.
This is what the K-Lite site says in one instance about H264:
If the video that you are playing contains H.264 video, then you could try using another decoder. The codec pack by default uses ffdshow for decoding H.264 video. This is a free and open-source decoder. Other decoders exist that have better performance as ffdshow. They should give you smoother playback, specially if you have a dual-core or quad-core processor.
    Alternative H.264 decoders are:
CoreAVC. This decoder is unfortunately not available for free.
DivX H.264 decoder. This decoder is available for free as part of the DivX Bundle. Tip: disable everything in the bundle except the H.264 decoder.
ffmpeg-mt. This is an experimental multi-threaded version of the libavcodec decoding library, which is used by ffdshow. You can select ffmpeg-mt as decoder in ffdshow video decoder configuration.
MPC DXVA H.264 decoder. This is an internal decoder of Media Player Classic Homecinema. It uses your graphics card to perform most of the decoding process, resulting is a very low CPU usage. You can enable this decoder though: MPC Options -> Internal Filters. Note: this decoder has some specific requirements.
I downloaded the DivX bundle and will pull out that codec. I bought the CoreAVC for $13 but Norton said it was a risky file when I downloaded it ... (I have a question into the site about that) and I will try the ffmpeg-mt codec as well as see what they say about the last one. I will also try to undo everything I did that happened I guess before QuickTime started to export so slow that it is not even worth it to try and convert a mov file into H264.
Sorry so long ... I just was trying to lay out the things I have attempted, will attempt to try and improve the situation.
Thanks again very much if anyone makes it thru this ... geez .. sorry.

    Hello Tim,
I decided to do a clean install, a fresh new installation of windows and all its updates, I didn't get the option of
    install SP1 yet.
After that I only installed Catalyst drivers: 11.5 and Realtek HD audio drivers, all downloaded on May 24 2011.
Then latest FFDShow and MPC-HC to test, both x64 versions Nothing else installed.
Only a fresh copy of windows with its updates and those mentioned drivers.
To my surprise, it happened a gain.
It still crashes after a while when playing MKV videos.
It's weird, because it doesn't happen with avi's or mp4's.
So, there must be something wrong with one of windows updates that creates this windows FREEZE.
Also there is no possibility to find out what error it is in "Event Viewer" as nothing gets recorded there. Anyone could
    advise?
    Thanks

  • Software for converting quicktime to windows media player

I am having difficult converting a movie from Quicktime or even IMovie to a program that can be run on a Windows PC.

To convert to Windows Media Player (with .wmv extension), you will need one of the Paid versions of Flip4Mac.
Flip4Mac gives you the components you need. Use something like MPEG Streamclip to do the actual conversion.
If you just want to play it on a Windows PC, but don't care about Windows Media format, there are two ways to go.
    1) Just use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in the size you want. On the PC, you need to install QuickTime Player for Windows.
    2) You can also use SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to MPEG4. Choose h.264 as the codec. With this option, it should play on Windows without the need for QuickTime Player to be installed.
I may receive some compensation from my link.

  • K-lite mega codec pack/quicktime codecs to play other files

I want to be able to use quicktime for all video files on my new ibook 14'' so i tried downloading the k-lite maga codec pack but i think its only for windows because every site i tried to download it from opened it in a .exe file. basically i was wondering if there was a site to find a version of k-lite to download that works with os x tiger or if there was another codec download that would enable me to play other media files on quicktime (wmv,mpeg-4). i already downloaded the divx codecs to play .avi files but i really want to be able to play those other files

Flip4Mac can play wmv file in Quicktime. It doesn't handle Real Media though.

  • What can I do about paying for Office from a commercial store, and itunes charging $100 for smart converter, ms office package and pack for ms office $41.99? It surely looks like double dipping

Hi folks, I am puzzled when looking at my itunes account. I bought a store office 365 package for $100, and in the process of installing it, somehow ended up with fees for smart converter, ms office package and pack for ms office, totalling another $90 from itunes. Isn't this double dipping and if so, how do I go about a refund? Thanks jby

Well, MS Office 2004 is available for the Mac and being a user of both the Windows and Mac versions, I think that the Mac version has a slight edge. The only downside is that it does not come with MS Access so if you use that then you have to stay with the PC version.
But... if you are set on mainly using Windows then paying a substantial premium just for a computer that looks good rather than on the fact that it runs OSX and hence great packages such as iLife etc is probably a waste. This is especially true when you have to remember that Apple will not give any technical support to users running Windows.. nil, nada, nowt! Likewise, Microshaft (sorry Microsoft) also seem unwilling to give support at this time since (for some strange reason) they don't like the idea of Windows on a Mac.
As I see it, the main reason for Apple to release the ability to run Windows was to:
a> Produce an 'official' version rather than have an unauthorised version 'in the field' which if problematic, could give Apple a bad name.
b> Give people who would like to have a Mac but have the occassional program which has to be run under Windows, the ability to switch to a Mac.
Option b was the reason why I switched from years on a PC to the Mac.
