Coffee on monitor, can it damage it?

Hi, I was drinking coffee today when I accidentally coughed and sprayed coffee all over the front of the monitor as well as the stand. I cleaned it down with some water and dried it with a cloth. But do you think that I did some sort of damage to the monitor?

Thanks for the response. Everything seems to be working fine. When the monitors off I do notice a slight film over the monitor. I'm not sure if it was there before the coffee got on the monitor, if it was I never noticed it. What would be the best liquid for cleaning my monitor? I put some water on one of my t-shirts and basically cleaned it down that way. Would water be the best way to remove the film or is something else recommended? I made some progress but I still notice it a bit. What do you guys use to clean down your display? Any info is greatly appreciated

    I have a new macbook pro and an LG w2361v monitor.  The max resolution the mac is allowing me to set is 1400x1050, why can't I get to the max resolution the monitor can accept (1900x1080)?  I know that the monitor is able to accept this resolution but It can't seem to find it.  Is it something to do with the new thunderbolt port? or the fact that I'm utilizing the VGA adaptor?  I could go HDMI if that works better.

    Use DVI or HDMI.
    VGA runs out of steam after a while.

  • Server Monitor can't see server

    Machine and OS specs:
    2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Xserve using 1 x ethernet port
    OS X 10.4.10
    I have just installed a new Xserve set up with mirrored RAID drives which is working perfecty apart from the Server Monitor will not connect just giving the message 'waiting for response'. I have tried all the various admin and root passwords and even tried to connect from my older G4 Xserve with the LOM password, but get the same result. All other administration software works fine.
    I have searched various forums and advice sites, but the suggestions I've found have not worked. I read that the com.apple.hwmond.plist can be edited to <false/> from <default/>, but when I open the file in a text editor I get this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">

    <false/>

    <string>/usr/sbin/hwmond</string>

    <string>hwmond</string>
    </array>
    <key>ServiceIPC</key>
    <false/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    - already set to <false/>!
    When I try to connect to the server via it's Terminal by typing ssh -l adminuser (my IP address) I get the message: 'The authenticity of host '(my IP address) (my IP address) can't be established'. This leads me to think something else is up. I can ping it OK.
    I have tried pretty much everything I can think of including manually setting IP addresses etc, but I would really appreciate any help or advice with this one.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    On the XServe launch Server Monitor, select Add Server and in the IP Address field key in 127.0.0.1 or localhost. In the Name and Password fields key in the default System Administrator account details. Click on Save password in keychain and select a suitable Update every settiing. If you launch WGM you will see the System Administrator account already listed in the local NetInfo node (UID 501). Use the short name as listed in WGM.
    Although I have not had the chance to do this yet, but enabling Lights Out Management (LOM) opens port 623 which Server Monitor can use. This may allow for remotely using Server Monitor to monitor the XServe.
    Hope this helps – Tony

    How is it that fonts in the Mac system can be damaged?
    It does not hapen in PC systems, ever!
    How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
    I treid to delete and reinstall but no sucess.
    Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
    PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
    Any sloutions or recommendations?
    Looks like I made a wrong choice.
    I thought that Mac systems was very stable when it comes to graphic related applications, but it seems that I was WRONG.
    A simple font base also Mac system cannot handle as well as a PC based system.
    Sorry if I have offended other Mac users.
    But, I would really like to continue using my Macbook Pro.
    Cheers and Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

    How is it that fonts in the Mac system can be damaged?
    As ds store noted. Any file on any part of the drive can be damaged at any time. This is true of any OS, not just the Mac.
    It does not happen in PC systems, ever!
    Why in the world would you think that's true? I used DOS/Windows for years. Fonts on PCs get damaged too, for pretty much the same reasons.
    How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
    You can replace just the fonts from your Snow Leopard installation disk. See the bottom of my article, Font Management in OS X for instructions.
    I tried to delete and reinstall but no success.
    Not enough info. Reinstalled from where?
    Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
    I don't know where you read or heard that, but it's 100% wrong.
    PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
    And I've had as many as 8500 active (for testing, I would never do it day to day). Do I win?
    Any solutions or recommendations?
    The most likely reason, assuming you replaced the fonts with known good copies is Font Book. Put bluntly, it's one of the worst font managers available. It's database is easily corrupted. When that happens, fonts that are marked as active in its interface won't appear in some, or all apps. You'll find you can't activate or deactivate fonts. Use these steps to clean Font Book up so it works.
    Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
    OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
    After the Mac finishes booting back to the desktop from Safe Mode, do the following to clear the rest of the font cache files.
    Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
    Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
    This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
    Looks like I made a wrong choice.
    As opposed to what? Dealing with viruses each and every day?
    I thought that Mac systems was very stable when it comes to graphic related applications, but it seems that I was WRONG.
    Boy, you sure know how to make people want to help you.
    A simple font base also Mac system cannot handle as well as a PC based system.
    Also flat out wrong. Fonts are simple. You add them and use them. Turn them off when you don't want them active. Learning and understanding a new OS is usually a good idea before you start trashing it.
    If problems return soon after resetting Font Book with the notes above, then you most likely installed junk fonts. Free fonts are worth what you paid for them and are the number one source of such problems on both Macs and PCs.
    Secondly, get rid of Font Book. If you use and manage fonts every day, get a professional manager. Suitcase Fusion 4 and FontExplorerX Pro are your best choices.
    I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Which own monitors can I add into DAs

    Hi!
    I want to clear out the question on which own created monitors can I add into Distributed Applications? For example:
    I can find all monitors that I have created through Management Packs Template and add it into my DA if the monitor is from a sealed MP or in the same unsealed MP as my DA.
    I cannot add any monitors that I have created through Management Pack Objects/Monitors/Unit Monitor into any DA. Why?
    //Mats A

    Yes I understand that but for example:
    I creat one monitor Management Pack Objects/Monitors/Unit Monitor/Windows Event/Simple Event Detection/Manual Reset
           - Name on the monitor is Approved_ID222_Event
           - Save this monitor in Approved_Monitoring
    MP
    Create one DA
           - Name on the DA is Approved
           - Save this DA in Approved_Monitoring
    MP
           - Try to find my monitor Approved_ID222_Event
    through Advanced Search. Cannot find my monitor

    Can I connect more than 2 DVI or HDMI displays?
    Mac Pro supports a total of two DVI or HDMI displays when connected via the built-in HDMI port or using the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. To connect additional DVI displays, use an active DVI adaptersuch as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. You can connect up to six active adapter DVI displays. This requires a powered USB hub since Mac Pro offers four USB ports and you will need six to connect them all.
    However, that article says:
    Six Apple Thunderbolt Displays (27-inch), Apple LED Cinema Displays (27-inch), or third-party Mini DisplayPort displays.
    So it appears you can with active dual-link DVI adopter or monitors with a display/min displayport connection.

  • Can malware damage/destroy a DVD?

    iMac 20 inch early 2008. OS X 10.9.4, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4BG 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Several of my DVDs have stopped playing on my iMac. Running a scan with ClamXav identified and quarantined trojans one of which was (FLV_Media_Player.exe).
    The DVDs in question will still show the identifying titles but will not play the programs, instead stating that the content is now in unrecognised format.
    MY internal and external DVD players will still run other of my DVDs.
    Is the trojan likely to be the cause? Can the damaged DVDs infect other playing systems? Can the damaged DVDs be recovered?
    I appreciate your attention. Thank you.

    The ".exe" extension identifies this file as a Windows only executable. You don't say what the infection names were, but if they didn't contain the letters "OSX" in the name, they are not Mac malware. At least 99% of all Trojan malware in circulation today are Windows only and as long as you are using a fully up-to-date OS X 10.6.8 or above, all currently known Mac malware will be found by the XProtect system.
    Is the trojan likely to be the cause? Can the damaged DVDs infect other playing systems? Can the damaged DVDs be recovered?
    No, no and probably not, but try using a cleaner on both the DVD's and any player that might have caused any damage.
