Coffee spill and power book

could you please advise where to go to clean my powerbook after coffee spill on the keyboard, in sf bay area. do apple stores offer this kind of service, please?

Hi Yelena,
Do you have a titanium or aluminium powerbook? ( See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88248 to how to identify your Powerbook)
Cleaning the keyboard is unlikely to help very much. It may need to be replaced. There's also a risk that the coffee will have got inside the Powerbook, in which case you may need other components replaced.
If you have a titanium powerbook, replacing the keyboard will be easy and fairly inexpensive, however there's a much greater chance the coffee has got inside the machine. If you have an aluminum one, replacement will be a lot more time consuming and expensive, but there's a much smaller chance of coffee getting inside the machine.
As far as actual locations in the bay area to get this done, I can't help with that.

  • My newish MacBook Air was just lost to a coffee spill, and I need to migrate back to my MacBook Pro using a recent back-up (Time Machine to external disk).  Can I do this?

My newish MacBook Air was just lost to a coffee spill, and I need to migrate back to my MacBook Pro using a recent back-up (Time Machine to external disk) for a few weeks.  This same disk was used to back-up the Pro earlier, and to migrate from the Pro to the Air.  Can I do this "back-migration" from the Air to the Pro?  Is it maybe better just to migrate the specific folders (Outlook email, Office docs) I am sure I need?

Do not attempt to copy files/folders from a Time Machine backup. Only use the Time Machine application to restore from the backup.
Click on a Finder window and select Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "restore" and select "restore items backed up with time machine" from the hints list. You will find these two articles:
Recover items using Time Machine and Spotlight
If you use Time Machine to back up your Mac, you can use Time Machine with Spotlight to recover lost or deleted items.
Note: You can retrieve earlier versions of TextEdit documents from within TextEdit. For more information, see:
View and restore past versions of documents
Open a Finder window and type a search word or phrase in the search field in the upper-right corner.
Select a location to search in the location bar.
Refine the results by specifying search criteria. Narrow down Spotlight search results
Open the Time Machine menu in the menu bar, then choose Enter Time Machine.
Use the arrows and timeline to browse the Time Machine backups. Your search is performed in every window.
When you find the item you want to restore, select it, then click Restore.
The restored item is returned to its original location. For example, if the item was found in the Documents folder, it’s returned to the Documents folder.
Restore items backed up with Time Machine
If you use Time Machine to back up your Mac, you can easily bring back lost items or recover older versions of files.
You can use Time Machine within many apps. If the iCloud Documents & Data feature is turned on, you can recover older versions of iCloud documents as well as regular documents.
Open a window for the item you want to restore. For example, if you accidentally deleted a file from your Documents folder, open the Documents folder. To recover an email message, open your inbox in Mail. To recover an iCloud document, open the document’s app, choose File > Open, then click iCloud to view the iCloud documents for that app.If you’re missing an item from the desktop, you don’t need to open a window.
From the Time Machine menu in the menu bar, choose Enter Time Machine. A message may appear while your Mac connects to the backup disk.
Use the arrows and timeline to browse the snapshots and backups.White tick marks represent snapshots stored on your internal drive (portable computers only). Pink tick marks represent backups stored on your backup disk. If a tick mark appears dimmed or grayed, there’s no backup available or the backup disk is not connected.
For more information about an item, double-click it.The windows in Time Machine behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
When you find the item you want to restore, select it, then click Restore. You can restore individual items, multiple items, folders, or your entire hard disk. The restored item is returned to its original location. For example, if the item was found in the Documents folder, it is returned to the Documents folder.

  • How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and Power Book

How do I transfer data from one time capsule to new time capsule when TC backs up an iMac and MacBookPro

It is generally better to leave the old backups and start again.. unless there is something you particularly need.
But if you desperately want all the old backups you have to copy the sparse bundles.. this will take very long time as it must copy via the computer..

Take particular note of the initial comments.. ie before you read how to do it.. don't do it.

I have an old powerbook G4 running 10.4.11. I recently purchased a new time capsule. I am trying to figure out if it is possible to copy my old iphoto and itunes library to the time capsule. I tried plugging the time capsule into the computer via ethernet but the time capsule doesnt appear on the computer. The G4 also does not have time machine, so i would like to know if there is another way to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The latest OS X version for PowerPC-based Macs is 10.5.8, so you can't install Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
Instead, check that your Mac can run Mac OS X Leopard > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp517 If so, you can buy Mac OS X Leopard at Amazon.
Then, make a backup of your Mac with Carbon Copy Cloner (there's a version for Tiger) and finally, insert the Leopard DVD and upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent Leopard version.
After upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard, you won't be able to use Classic applications

  • HD camera and Power Book G4

I want an HD video camera. I have a G4 that won't accept iMovie08. If I film in Standard Definition, will I be able to save my video using iMovie 06?

Yes, it seems that Everio have provided the required update, but only for Leopard:
    An update patch for the bundled QuickTime component for Everio software is available for customers with QuickTime Version 7.4 and 7.4.1 and/or Mac OS X 10.5.2 Please visit this site to download the update;

    This from Everio:
SD EVERIO Tutorials Let us help you install your Everio software and hook up your SD Everio camera to your computer.
    Apple SD Tutorial Notes:
    1. This tutorial explains how to import standard definition video to an Apple computer via i.Link. For many applications, this will be the easiest method to import video to an Apple computer. In order to do this, you must have a JVC Everio with a docking base and an i.Link connection. JVC models with a dock include:
    • GZ-MG335
    • GZ-MG365
    • GZ-MG730
    • GZ-MG155
    • GZ-MG255
    • GZ-MG555
    2.

    3. If you wish to use a USB connection to import video to your Apple computer, you must have iMovie '08 and you must have the latest Mac OS (10.5.1 or later?) If your computer does not meet either of these requirements, it will not be possible to import video via USB, and you should refer to the instructions for importing video via i.Link.

  • When is apple going to have touch screen iMacs and power books?

Every kind of PC has touch screen now including TVs. It's hugely disappointing that apple is not embracing this especially since they started the movement to touchscreen with the IPhone. Are there plans to begin using touchscreens if not is there a reason? Thanks for any information you might have.

kind of feel like Apple's losing its "cutting-edge, innovative, pushing new technology, user friendly options & ideas" identity with the passing of Mr. Jobs.
I feel that touch-screen functionality & TV are two areas he would have broached by now if he was still with us to champion them through. Along with, I'm certain, others only he could of come up with.

  • My Power Book G4 and iPhone Does Not Remember My Airport Express

    Hello everyone,
I have an iPhone 2G(V.3.0) and Power Book G4(V.10.5.8), and neither of these two devices will see or remember my Airport Express. Each time either device wakes from sleeping, I have to manually log in. This means I have to select join a network (because it is not in the drop down list), then enter my network and password every time; this is annoying. If someone can help me solve this mystery I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance,

Christendom, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have your AirPort Express (AX) configured to create a "hidden" network? If so, disable that option.

Water + electronics do not mix.  Something was damaged insode, and the logic board may be corroding as is.
Take it to a Genius Bar for an evaluation and repair estimate.
This is accidental damage and not covered by warranty.

Firstly, what is the source of the 10.6.4 disc? Is it the original installation disc for your MacBook, or one 'borrowed' from another computer?
It isn't the retail version, because that's 10.6.3.
Assuming it's the correct disc (i.e. the one that shipped with your Mac), you need to boot from it again.
    OK the language page.
From the installer screen, ignore the continue button, go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.).
Run Repair Disk. If that comes up as disk OK, click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need.
Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
When the Macintosh HD volume appears below the drive name, quit DU and see if you can then install.
If the screen after the language screen doesn't show the menu bar, it may be necessary to use another Mac to do the job with the MB in Firewire Target Disc Mode. If it won't boot in TDM, or the MB doesn't have FireWire then it's getting very difficult.

  • Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?

I hope the title is enough info, please ask. In the mean time I have created an applescript to open preferences/ sharing and uncheck then check the file sharing box. This works but I would obviously prefer it just work normally. I have no corrupt preference files. Perhaps a file is missing? Thank you.

    Greetings Kwnez
I'm not up to your level of expertise yet. I'm networking and file sharing too, on my Mac Powerbook 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4; OS 10.5.8 Lepoard. At the public library I found by asking the clerk a book Authored by David Pogue. "Mac OS X Leopard the Missing Manual". It (the book) has helped me ask better questions. I'm not saying that your question "
Power book G4 Leopard 10.5.8. File sharing preference checked but not working after start up until unchecked and the rechecked?
is hard for me to understand, I went to system preferences and looked at the sharing box. when I clik it it opens up and the first thing I see is my computers name, and under that i see, " Computers on your local network can access your computer at: ...-powerbook-g4-15.local"
What I'm saying is "Are we on the same Page"

  • Just installed DVD Studio Pro 2 in Power Book G4 Lap but I cant view Subtitles in the grew square while typing the text. I see the text in the Inspector but nothing appears in the grew square. Once finished the subtitle I run the sceen and see the subtitl

I just installed DVD Studio Pro 2 in a Power Book G4 Lap but I cant see subtitle text typing after doble click a new subtitle. I see the text that I am typing in the Inspector Window but the grew square in the Monitor Window seemes empty. Once I finished the subtitle I can run the video and the subtitle appears in color, font and size chosen. Creating the next subtitle I can even go to the one before click once over the subtitle, then click above to get the videoline tool over the subtitle and I will see the subtitle in the Monitor and editing the text in the Inspector I can see the changes in the Monitor. But as soon as I doble click the grew square appears and the text dissapears. Sin doubt the text is there because I can select the invisible text with "Apple"+"A", and then change fonts and sizes and it works. In Color settings I tried every posible combination of Mapping types, color and opacity. In DVD Preference I checked the subtitle  settings. The monitor text defaults work perfectly and double clicking texts in the Monitor window where a grew sqaure appears and the text is visible just works correctly. Somebody can help? I have a Power Book OS 10.4.11 and cant access my radio library.  I believe I deleted something I should not have. How do I reload Itunes and will I loose my music I loaded?  I do not have the original software.  I was trying to free up some memory and removed the wrong thing.

If you mean the listing of internet streams that seems to have disappeared for many users of older iTunes versions over week ago. Probably some update at Apple broke older versions.  No idea if it will ever come back but you can open stream URLs you find on the web and save them in playlists.
