Cognos 7 to OBIEE 11 migration

Hi,
I need to migrate Cognos Impromptu 7.3 catalog to OBIEE 11.
Could you let me know what is the process of migration?

dissimilar BI technologies cannot be migrated automatically using any tool. I have done Cognos to OBIEE earlier. Everything is manually done. You will have to build the Rpd based on Framework and Catalog from Cognos BI content store . Cognos cubes cannot be used also, You will have to re-create this cube from Oracle.

No direct one for the time being. You can't import Cognos metadata into the rpd like you would for Essabse or MS Analysis Services.

OBIEE 11g migration issues...

Hi Experts,
I have installed the OBIEE 11g and tried out the SimpleLite repository and catalog which is available along with the installation. That was working fine. and also I was be able to create/edit the analysis. I could be able to access admin presentation page using the user "weblogic". "weblogic" user is belonging to "BIAdministrators" system role and "BIAdminstrator" Application role.
After that i have migrated one of my OBIEE 10g local project to 11g. After the migration i couldn't be able to access the admin page. I am getting authorization issue. Not only that i cannot also be able to create analysis too. Still the weblogic belongs to BIAdministator" user. Did i miss any step ?
Apart from that in that case i couldn't be able to update the repository row count when i open the repository in online mode. I am getting "Connection has failed" message when i try that. I have verified the ODBC connection was fine before try out that.
No my question is OBIEE 11 g migration has issue? or do we need to create the project from the scratch?
You guidelines are much appreciated.

OBIEE database Migration

i have 3 servers -> 1 is DB server, 2 Mid-tier,3 oid sever local
DB-11.2.0.2,obiee 11.1.1.5 .
OS - linux
i want migrate DB (old server) to anther new server . Ans : clone db one server to anther new server .that's fine.
and want to make a connection b/w new server DB to 2 mid-tier server OBIEE.
could please suggest me how to do this, any documents for that ?

OBIEE Repository migration

Hello Guys,
I ran into a strange problem today. I am using repository migration to migrate my objects from one repository to the other. There are some dummy presentation table that i created to nest some of the presentation tables under it.
After the repository migration strangely all my dummy folders are gone from the presentation layer. It will only display the presentation tables that have columns under it.
I end up manually creating those dummy presentation tables again after the migration.
Is this a known behaviour or am i missing some thing here? Please advice

Its a known bug. What oracle says about it is, A presentation table should have at least one column, Then only it considers for migration.
In your case what you have to do is create a dummy column and remove read access for every one. So that we will overcome the problem in the rpd mgiration.

Using or migrating Cognos Powerplay Cubes in/to Oracle OBIEE V 11.1.1

Hello,
is it possible somehow to use cognos cubes (used in Cognos Powerplay) in OBIEE out of the box? Or with some tricks?
If not, is it possible somehow to do a elegant migration, without starting from the scratch?
Any ideas or good links, informations about this topic?

Hi Tina,
I unzipped the install file to the root drive i.e. (C:\bishiphome in my case or D:\bishiphome in your case). Some of the folder structure for SampleAppLite goes pretty deep, and I'm wondering since you've got the install folder nested in some folders, it might start hitting Windows file path limit.
I know for a fact, when I installed 11g to C:\app\oracle\product\obiee11\<obiee11>, when it came time to uninstall, I couldn't delete the SampleAppLite files because their file path's were so long. From then on, I just installed it to the root directory to avoid problems.

OBIEE 10g incremental repository migration

Could someone direct me to an Oracle document or previous post that clarifies if incremental OBIEE repository migration utilizing copy/paste between two offline repositories is supported, and if doing so viloates any Oracle warranty? We're on version 10.1.3.2. Thanks.

thanks bifacts. i have reviewed this article before and conducting our migrations the way it describes, but have recently been told that this approach is no longer supported by Oracle (i.e., incremental copy/paste). can you confirm if it's supported? or, to ask another way, are there any Oracle support risks associated to heading down this path?

If your using Cognos version like MDX/XMLA then it should be possible. (on older cognos version you migth have to "reroute" trought an SSAS service.

Just fyi...
You can't connect directly to the Cognos cube, you have to go trough the Cognos Reporting server:
OBIEE -> Cognos Reporting Server - > Cognos Cube
or
OBIEE -> MS - SSAS server - > Cognos Reporting Server -> Cognos Cube
But if you are already on Cognos why do you want to transfer data to OBIEE? Cognos is NOT an ETL tool. A Cognos Cube File is only a data file for a Cognos Reporting server.

Migrating Security In Oracle BI 11g - Project Amelia

We'd like to introduce an open source project that assists with the migration of basic security from an OBI 11g (FMW) source environment to a target environment. The project generates a WLST script that executes a security artifact migration process. It is also great for creating an inventory of application roles and principal assignments that can be used in project documentation.
This is a perfect tool for upgrades from OBI 10g to OBI 11g.
Advanced users should have no problem testing and running the solution. Please provide feedback or potentially consider contributing to the project.

Look at Catalog manager part.
Navigate to the specific folder/report using Catalog Manger and then select the report(s) and then File Menu archive and specify the folder to save the archive
Move them to Prod box and the Open Catalog Manger and navigate to specific folder and File menu Unarchive select the path for file

Migrating Oracle BI Presentation Catalog between environments ?

Background:
OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 installed
Platform: Windows 2008 R2 server
Task:
I am confronted with the task of migrating the RPD and Web catalog from System Test to Integration and then Integration to Production
Request:
Can anyone point me to a good document resource where this is explained properly ?
I couldn't find a doc that explains this clearly. I am more worried about Web Catalog migration
I am also in the process of setting up security in TEST. Should i do migration after setting up security or can i config security later in Integration and migrate security later ?

Error : No matching Table

Hi All,
I am migrating form Analytics 7.7 to OBIEE, after migrating catalog and RPD, i am facing error in some of the reports.
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 46043] Internal error: No matching table for expr NRT.SH_TYPE, File .\Src\SQOSPSimplifyJoin.cpp, line 118. (HY000)
i am using the SH_TYPE as filter in the request.

Hi Rupesh,
By strange coincidence I just got this error myself, only I have an Essbase data source. A quick Google search return a few results suggesting this is a C++ code error in the Admin tool. As I thought this is a corruption of some sort, to resolve it I had to effectively re-create all the joins in my schema and it all works OK now.
It appears that this might be related to importing certain parts of the repository by copying and pasting from another rpd, not sure if you have been doing that. I try not to but had to do it recently and I guess this eror is the consequence.
