Cognos-SAP BW

Hi All,
We are implementing Cognos ReportNet1.1 with SAPBW 3.5.
When we try to do some calculations or groupings on a report with more than 20 columns;the report takes forever to execute(Less than 15 Columns it works fine). We have increased the memory size and we have conducted performance tuning;but without success.
A)Any ideas or suggestions...
B)Are there any parameter settings which we have to take care of?

Both Powerplay and ReportNet can used for reporting from SAP BW 3.5 only. It is will support BI7 or 2004s version of SAP BI.

While deploying Cognos IViews on EP6 I'm getting this error:
"Unable to process the request.
CPS-CCM-1204 The method "initCookie" of the Markup interface failed.
CAM-AAA-0055 User input is required. CAM-AAA-0126 The call to RfcOpenEx failed. This system rejects all logons using SSO tickets

I've already defined the Cognos system on the portal and user mapping settings.

Yes is a separate product with its own DB.
If you are asking if you can have EP as in the same box as R/3 I would advise to have it separate. If possible you can even shutdown the Java stack in R/3 and free the CPU and memory for R/3.
Well the reasons I could think of to have it separate.
1) For better box utilisation. A dedicated box for R/3 will free it for R/3 centric tuning and EPs box for a Java centric tuning.
2) Even if you have R/3 server is down for maintenance you can have your EP running to serve other applications or atleast show that ESS and MSS will not be available.
3) Even the load balancing scenarios for EP and R/3 differ ,from one side you would have the R/3 message server serving the load for R/3 and from the other side a different lb or SAP Web dispatcher managing the load for EP.
4) You might also want to take different upgrade strategies for EP and R/3
5) As for MSS having constant calls to R/3 and if any one claims that is a performance hit , you can have a dedicated high speed link between the two of them.

Issue regarding Cognos 82 Business Package iviews on SAP NW 7.0 Portal

Hello,
We have recently deployed Cognos business package (com.cognos.cognos82.epa) in NW 7.0 and followed the documentation provided by Cognos (i.e. Installing and Configuring Cognos8 on a SAP Portal). When testing the Cognos iView, we are getting the following error message:

Get Cognos to provide you the documentation on "Enabling Single Signon with Cognos8..."
In addition to importing the Cognos business package, you need to setup a SSO between Cognos and Portal. so, your Cognos support should be able to provide you documentation on setting up SSO.

The role of informatica and cognos in the SAP is as same as like other ETL tools
and BAPI is nothing but Business Application Programming Interface which acts as a
interface between non sap source systems and sap OLAP warehouse .

Cognos reporting on top of SAP BW

Hi,
Have anyone of you been involved in an implementation where COGNOS is used as the frontend reporting tool with SAP BW as the backend. If so, could you please pass on the setup/architecture document if you have any.
Also, can Cognos access BW infoproviders and generate reports or is it necessary to build BEx queries to interface with Cognos.

Hi,
By using Cognos we can access BW infoproviders and generate reports . It is easily possible because of interface provided SAP and Cognos.
But Still there are problem are there with this integration. For ex: You can not create queries directly on ODS , REstriction KF concept is not at all possible( this is very worst behavior).

SAP BW Security when using Cognos as Frontend Tool for Analysis

Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows how to handle security when using Cognos 10 on top of SAP BW 7.3 as analysis tool.
Is it somehow possible to forward user credentials to SAP BW?

DB2 Connect version 8.2 is no longer supported by IBM (support ended April 30, 2009, see http://www.ibm.com/software/data/support/lifecycle/). As far as I know, DB2 Connect is communicating through DRDA, which is a platform-independent protocol supported by all DB2 platforms, so any DB2 Connect client should be able to talk to any DB2 database. However, there may be limitations on the supported release combinations.

There are lots of limitations integration of cognos to BI ,that includes latest version of cognos 8.2 portal,Difficulties regarding dashboards on to cognos for things like hierrachies etc..
Cognos is still DRAG and DROP ,Built your Bex query in BW ---> In Cognos , take ur KPI and Chars to use it in Cognos- rationale ,use BW authorizations.
Cognos can directly hit to BW infocubes and built their own query(no need of Bex query) however, the whole AUTHORIZATION concept has to be built now as a NEW (cannot use BW authorization concept-auth variables ....)
Two ways using cognos with BI
1)Built direct queries in cognos using BI infocubes
Disadvantage - Have to built Security/Auth concept in Cognos
2)Built queries in Bex and then present them in Cognos (using OLEDB from Bex)
Advantage - Can use the BW auth concept no need to built in cognos
As per my knowledge, Cubes in COGNOS are similar to cubes in BI 7.0 in terms of modelling, reporting etc. I was invloved in a project - Cognos reporting with BW cubes,and had enough hard time to work BEX queries in Cognos because of lot of limitations mentioned above.. I am not involved in data transfer from BI to COGNOS BI. I think, you need IBM Cognos Data Manager to integrate BI with cognos to extract Data, which will be installed on a seperate server and data manager connector to be imported in SAP via STMS. Then design and maintain relational data marts for use with Cognos 8 Business Intelligence, to move, merge, consolidate, and transform data from a range of data sources to build and maintain data marts

Cognos Iviews integration into SAP Enterprise portal 7.0-Error

Dear Experts,
I had integrated the cognos iviews into SAP Enterprise portal and facing some problems.
in the navigator iview i am able to see folder structure
Public Folders and My folders .
when i click Public Folders following details are coming

GoSales( Query)
OSD_CO3
on click of Product analysis (any link) link i am getting following error
Cognos 8 -> An error has occurred.
DPR-ERR-2079 Firewall Security Rejection. Your request was rejected by the security firewall.
CAF rejection details are available in the log. Please contact your administrator.
Apart form this images are not displaying in the portal iviews.

This might be a authorization issue, you might not have appropriate permissions to use the public folder. Contact the authorization team to resolve this error they might help you.

Finding changes in SAP tables

I have problem with SAP - Cognos interface. It functions like an ABAP program that generates a file from spec. fields of some SAP tables like BKPF, BSEG, BSID, BSIK, etc. And this is all OK, but problem is that report always selects ALL data, and in FI case(those table that I mentioned) this is complicated. For example one item is in some period open item, and in few days it will go to closed items. As COGNOS interface runs once in a Month or something like that, it is problem how to select proper data, because of huge amount FI data.
Any Idea how to select only changes at table level? This must be also applicable to MM, SD and CO data. I thought of CHANGE DOCUMENTS, but what if change is not traced in CDHDR table because some data element is used in SAP table is not check to be observed as Change Document?

For the changes, when ever there is a change done in the system a change number is created which will be available in table CDHDR, based on the Object classes extract the data and the required dates of changes made pull out the data.
In case for AP, AR, G/L you can check with some tables ( there are some tables which will be only be updated based in the process AP/AR/GL ). Based on the list of these tables, extract data from table CDPOS using the Change Number obtained from CDHDR.

My experience of SSO between SAP Portal6.0 and non-Sap Application

Firstly I announce that I am not a Sap developer or a Sap Consultant. I am a Cognos Consultant. I need do SSO between Sap Portal and Cognos Portal in my project, So I have to make SSO between two portals.
I tested SSO between the two products on IIS5 of Windows XP and IIS6 of Windows 2003 and passed.
Step 1: Copy sapsecin.exe and sapsecu.dll on any directory where you want, such as C:PortalSecurity
Then add this directory to your Environment variable PATH. You can find the two files on sapserv<x> under general/misc/security/SAPSECU/<platform>;
Step 2: Copy your Filter ISAPI Files IIS_SSO.dll or IIS6_SSO.dll in any directory where you want, such as C:PortalFilter. You can find this two files on SAP note 442401.
Step 3: Get you verify.pse which is located in
<irj>
ootWEB-INFpluginsportalservicesusermanagementdata and put it on the same directory with your ISAPI Files ,such as C:PortalFilter
(According Sap Support articles , IIS_SSO.dll should be used on IIS 5 and IIS6_SSO should be used on IIS 6,but I can not load IIS_SSO.dll on IIS 5 of Windows XP, I use IIS6_SSO.dll );
Step 4: Create a new file named verify.properties , the content of this file see the appendix A;
Step 5: Load the IIS6_SSO.dll on your IIS. On IIS5, Select Website PropertiesISAPI FilterAdd IIS6_SSO.dll and name it wp . On IIS6,do as such and Create a Web Extensions named wp and allocate file IIS6_SSO.dll. Finally restart the www service.

If you can load the filter successfully, you will see the filter color is green.
On IIS6,Maybe you find that you cant load your ISAPI file IIS6_SSO.dll, Its state is unloaded and its color is red. I am confused by this question long time. I finally found you must install some R3 dll files on your system! The .dll files which I mentioned can be found in SAP note 684106, put it in a same directory with your security files, such as C:PortalSecurity and restart your web server.
(The steps above I reference Chris beck s topic)
Step 6: I write an ASP file named headerdumper.asp on my website and create a i-view to show my asp file in SAP Portal. If you succeed, you can see the http header variable<your logon name> in ASP page. If you application can receive http header variables, then Congratulations! You have apply SSO successfully.
If your log file show Can't find MYSAPSSO2 ticket cookie for URI "" on host "", dont worry about it. I am confused by this question long time though. I found the key cause the errors are cross domain or different DNS suffix.
I tested 3 scenarios :
1 if your Sap Portal URL is http://sap-server:50000/irj/protal ,and your asp file is located in http://sap-server:80/headerdumper.asp, You cant access this asp page from i-view . I am sorry that I have no idea about this.
2 if your Sap Portal URL is http://sap-server:50000/irj/protal ,and your asp file is located in http://your-server:80/headerdumper.asp, Your log will show Can't find MYSAPSSO2 ticket cookie for URI "" on host "". because they have no domain name, which is seemed that they meant different domain.
3 you must deploy your asp file and sap portal like below ,So you can apply SSO correctly:
you must access SAP Portal like : http://sap-server.domain.com:50000/irj/portal
you must access your asp file like http://yourserver.domain.com:80/headerdumper.asp
then add your asp file as i-view to your SAP Portal which URL is like above , you can get Http header variable correctly.
I am not an native English speaker, I hope you can understand what I said.

Using COGNOS as an infoprovider/data source for WebI...?

I saw a job posting today that listed a requirement that I am pretty sure is IMPOSSIBLE...
WebIntelligence report experience with using COGNOS as an infoprovider/data source for BOBJ is an important skill.
Data sources for client will be both COGNOS and SAP.
Now, it wouldn't be the first time that a client spec asked for the IMPOSSIBLE- but it got me to wondering if maybe I am wrong in my understanding that COGNOS 8 still uses PowerPlay cubes that are 100% proprietary and can only be read with the CONGOS report-design tools.
Is there actually a "supported" way to use COGNOS as an infoprovider/data source for BOBJ...?
Maybe using some COGNOS equivalent of QAAS...?
I have no intention of applying for this job - but would like to know if it is technically possible.

It's been more than a week since I posted this question and nobody came up with a "YES" here or on the BOB Forums...so I am going to close this question as an IMPOSSIBLE request.
Based on the current technology - COGNOS cubes can not be used as an infoprovider/data source for WebIntelligence.

Different languages without using SAP authentication

Hi folks,
is it possible to leverage the language capabilities of BW in WebI through an Universe WITHOUT using SAP authentication (means having a fixed user in the underlaying BW connection and NOT SSO)??
We are facing this requirement in a POC having Cognos as oponent and they can do this!

yes I know, but this is then fix per connection. What I want is having one universe with one connection, BUT still leveraging the different language-texts from SAP BW... Is this possible or not? Until now I only see the possibility to create one universe for each language and this is not satisfiying the customer...
