Coherence Management Pack questions

Hi all,
I'm attempting to setup the Coherence Management Pack for OEM12c integration but have a few questions on which I can seem to get clear answers. My understanding is that there needs to be a node setup as a JMX monitoring node for the Coherence Management Pack to function. Based on my research this should ideally be a separate node used just for JMX monitoring and not used as a data cache node. So my questions are:
1. Does this separate node used just for JMX monitoring require a Coherence license?
2. Is this node a single point of failure (SPOF) whereby if it goes offline then Coherence monitoring also goes offline?
3. What is the thinking/recommendation for using this single node as the JMX monitoring node for multiple environments, i.e. DEV, TST, QUA, and PRD?
I appreciate any assistance.
Thanks.

Hi,
It is included in the OEM 11g installation and there is no seperate software/binaries required for Coherence Management Pack.
Cheers,

  • AD Management Pack question again

    Hi everybody!
Guide instruction presented with AD MP says about installing agent on
ALL Domain controllers. But there is one "but"....In my situation there are several domains in one forest (one parent and two subdomains). My management group there is in one of subdomains. Do i have to install agents to other domains....?
In guide says nothing about it(((

    Hi,
The ADMP supports the monitoring of forests in addition to the forest where Operations Manager and the management pack are installed. You can deploy agents to remote forests. The management pack will gather health and performance data for the remote forest
according to the view of the domain controller where the agent is installed.

  • A question regarding Management pack dependency.

    Hi All,
I am new to SCOM, I have a question regarding management pack dependency.
My question is, Is Dependency is required when New alerts are created in a unsealed MP and the object class selected during alert creation is (i.e Windows server 2012 full operating system) and it is on a Sealed management pack ?
For example i have a Sealed Windows server 2012 monitoring management pack.
I have made a custom one, for windows server 2012, So if it the custom is not dependent on the sealed Windows server 2012 monitoring management pack, Then cant i create any alerts in the custom management pack targeting the class Windows server
    2012 full operating system ?

    Hi CyrAz,
Thank you for the reply. Now if your's and my understanding is the same, Then look at the below what happened.
I created a Alert monitor targeting a Windows Server 2012 class in my custom management pack which
is not dependent on the Windows server 2012 management pack, But how was i successfully able to create them when the dependency is not there at all, If our understanding is same, then there must be an Error thrown while creating the monitor its self right
? But how was SCOM able to create that ?
    Look at the below screenshot.
I was able to create a monitor targeting Windows server 2012 Full operating system and create a alert on the custom management pack which is not at all dependent
on the Windows server 2012 Sealed MP.
Look at the dependency of the management pack where i do not have the Windows server 2012 management as my custom management is not dependent on that.
Then how come this is possible ?

  • Questions on Oracle Management Packs

    1. What is the difference between MANAGEMENT PACK and CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT PACK (Oracle versions 10g & 11g)
    2. If one uses CONFIGURATION must one also use MANAGEMENT?
    3. Is there a view that tells if either of these are actually being used? (No, I dont mean using the capability in Grid Control/EM to turn them on or off)

    5. Do Extent also span files(ORA files) i.e. 'Table can span across ORA files' whether it means part of a Extent may present in one Data file and other part in another data file.
A table Extents can span into multiple datafiles. But, a single extent can't span into multiple datafiles.
    4. How are Bitmap used to track used and Free space in Locally managed TablespacesA Locally Managed Tablespace is a tablespace that manages its own extents maintaining a bitmap in each datafile to keep track of the free or used status of blocks in that datafile. Each bit in the bitmap corresponds to a block or a group of blocks. When the extents are allocated or freed for reuse, Oracle changes the bitmap values to show the new status of the blocks. These changes do not generate rollback information because they do not update tables in the data dictionary (except for tablespace quota information), unlike the default method of Dictionary - Managed Tablespaces.
    ** Reduced recursive space management
** Reduced contention on data dictionary tables
    ** No rollback generated
    ** No coalescing required
    3. How many blocks will form a Extent. Is it configurable ?, Where we need to configure whether we need specify it in Storage Parameters or in some configuration files?

  • Management Pack Contents Question

    Hello,
I have recently became the owner of our SCSM 2012 R2 environment and the previous admin was all over the place with putting things in seemingly random management packs.  I am in the process of cleaning things up but at the same time I am afraid of removing
a management pack in case there is some "grenade" in it.
Is there an easy way to list or determine what is in each management pack?  Maybe a series of powershell scripts?  I have been searching on the internet for an answer and trying out a few commands myself but nothing seems to be what I am looking
    for.
    Thank you in advance.

Personally, I just look at the XML in the sql database.
select MPName, convert(xml, mpxml) from Managementpack with(nolock)
I'll assume your previous admin put things in unsealed MPs via the console.
In my opinion, the only grenade would be classes or relationships defined in the MP. Other than that, generally you can remove an MP and simply re-import it with no ill effects. Classes and relationships, when their MP is removed, also remove any data defined
in those classes/relationships. So, those are the ones to watch out for.
Unsealed MPs cannot be referenced by other MPs, so again, generally, the only affect removing an unsealed MP can have is removing stuff defined in that unsealed MP..which can be things like templates, views, console tasks, worfklow rules, notification subscriptions,
etc. So while some functionality may be removed (like a view is suddenly missing), re-importing the MP will put the view right back where it came from.
Anyway, I don't know of any simple powershell scripts to get a management pack's manifest (like: How many views are in this MP?), but I would look through your XML and catalog the views, templates, custom console tasks, custom workflows (which include notification
subscriptions) and groups&queues (which include custom classes). Then you can start eliminating the unnecessary stuff.
Incidentally, if you're simply trying to clean-up stuff that was created in the console, I recommend removing that stuff using the console..that way you won't have to deal with MPs at all. For example, if you want to get rid of a view that your previous
admin created, simply go to the view and run the "Delete View" task. You can do the same for templates, notification subscriptions, workflows, etc etc.
I apologize for rambling on quite a bit longer than was necessary :)

  • Management pack license question

is all the management packs require license to use?
I see in the grid licensing page:
"Some premium functionality contained within this release of Enterprise Manager requires a separate Oracle license"
How do you know which needs license?
specifically, I am looking at using Service Level Management Pack. Is this free with grid or it needs a separate license from Oracle?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
When you login to OEM,In the left bottom corner of your home page you can see a link "About Oracle Enterprise Manager",click on tht (+) sign and then it will show the details of mgmt packs.
Click on any of those mgmt pack name and u will get licensing info.
    Thanks...

  • Error showing while adding a management pack to 2007R2 authoring console

    Hi Every one,
While trying to add an unsealed management pack to 2007 authoring console we are getting error

The Authoring Console has not been updated and does not understand the OpsMgr 2007R2 MP Schema version. It can still be used to produce MP that will work on OpsMgr 2007 R2, but you need to reference the old versions of the libraries.

  • How to manage your environments, going from Development (DEV) to Production (PRD) with Management Packs.

I am looking for a way to go from the development (DEV) environment to the production (PRD) environment in a controlled manner.
As I do not want to manually click around with a walk-through screen-shots document = error prone.
    As I read these articles
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh519659.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/antoni/archive/2013/10/09/system-center-service-manager-operations-manager-management-pack-and-naming-convention-best-practices.aspx

    http://www.netiviaconsulting.com/2012/05/10/staying-organized-with-scsm-beware-of-the-management-pack-jungle/
    I still have some questions:
    1. Can all MPs (un-sealed) be exported from DEV and imported to PRD without breaking things?
    2. Are there any known pitfalls?
    3. Do you have some tips on this matter? In other words, how do you manage this?
    Regards,
    Erik

Alex is spot-on. Most MPs are environment/management group independent.
But some MPs contain what I call "Environment Specific Variables". In my experience, ESVs are in:
    1) Templates (such as the runbook guids)
    2) Criteria blocks (like view criteria, and rule criteria)
    3) Parameters (such as write action parameters, and console task parameters)
Alex already gave an example of a template ESV.
An example of a Criteria ESV might be some view that you developed that returns objects that have a specific set of values in your dev environment, but may be different for your prod environment. ie: You have a view whose criteria looks afor a specific business
service ServiceId property. Let's say "Business Service X". But "Business Service X" has a different ServiceId in your dev environment than in your prod environment. So, every time you import your view MP from dev to prod, you have to remember to change your
    criteria.
A quick Parameter ESV example; you have a notification subscription (a rule+writeaction). In Dev, you've hardcoded the notification recipient to be yourself. In Prod, the recipient has to be your boss. So, every time you import your MP from Dev to Prod,
you have to remember to change the recipient parameter in the subscription's writeaction.
Like Alex said, handling ESVs by hand is error-prone and time consuming.
Alex, when you write that utility, you should make it more robust. Within an MP, allow a user to pick and configure
any ESV. Store that configuration. Then, just run the MP through the utility and have it automatically set all the configured ESVs to the appropriate environment specific value :) (It's been something I've wanted to write into TFS for
a while, but I never take the time to do it ;) ) If an ESV is missing (because it was removed or changed in such a way that it no longer resembles the configured ESV), throw a warning during conversion.

  • Enabled monitor through override not visible in custom management pack

    Hello Everyone,
I've this requirement to enable a monitor which is disabled by default in its source sealed management pack. Using following article; via override; I enable the monitor and place it into a custom unsealed management pack.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/hh212818.aspx
Now when I try creating subscription based on that monitor; and select the custom unsealed management pack; that monitor is not listed/available. However, this same monitor which is turned enabled by override; is listed; if its parent sealed management pack
    is selected.
    Questions:
    1) Would selecting this monitor from its sealed management pack; safe to assume this monitor is now enabled?
    2) Is this default behavior for monitors turned enabled via override?
Please provide input to this, how an enabled monitor through override can be referenced to be used? Thank you.

    1) If the override is done properly, yes, it is enabled. You can check that it is actually enabled by opening the health explorer of an object targeted by this monitor : it should be green/yellow/red instead of blank when it was disabled
    2) It is the default behavior. What happens is that you store the override (just a parameter that says "ok, the monitor is now enabled") in the unsealed management pack, not a copy of the actual monitor.

  • Imported sealed Management Pack and its not showing up in Data Warehouse Job MPSyncJob

    Hello,
When i try to Import a sealed Management Pack (with defined new Dimensions for Data Warehouse) it works fine, and it shows up under Management Packs under the Administration Pane. But its not showing up in the Data Warehouse Job "MPSyncJob".
No errors in the Eventlog on the DW Management Server and cant see any errors in failed Data Warehouse Jobs either.
I imported the MP three Days ago and still nothing.
    Now what?
    /Maekee

I have a smaller SCSM Lab that i can import this MP in and the classes are created in the DW. Now is the question why its not working in my PreProd env and why i dont get any errors in the Event Log? Anyone that can Point me in the right direction for
    this?

  • Operations Manager 2012 Management Pack Catalog Web Service - Missing Management Packs

I am using SCOM 2012 R2 with UR5 and I see things like Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 in the catalog when doing an MP import, but some other items like: SQL Server 2012/2014 and SharePoint 2013 are missing. I can download them from the MS download site,
but is this catalog web service being maintained?

Hi Darren, I know what you mean. It would be nice to be able to pull the latest management packs as well as management packs available from the download site from the catalog via the Operations Console, however, the packs in the catalog are not comprehensive.
I highly recommend the SCOM management pack wiki which is kept up to date by the community. I use this myself :) An added benefit to using this wiki over the catalog is that this links to the download page for the management pack of interest from where you
can obtain the management pack and its documentation which often contains useful detail on what the management pack entails. The wiki link is below:

  • Adjusting queuestatistics.vbs timeout in MSMQ management pack

    Hi all,
I'm running SCOM 2012 R2 and my question is specific to the MSMQ 6.0.6700.88 management pack.  I'm seeing a few alerts titled
"Operations Manager failed to start a process", with the alert details saying "Forced to terminate the following process started at x:xx:xx PM because it ran past the configured timeout 300 seconds"
    Command executed: "C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe" /nologo "queuestatistics.vbs" server.domain.local false
One or more workflows were affected by this.
    Workflow name: many
    Instance name: many
    Instance ID: many
etc etc - we've all seen these errors before.
When I run the script manually on the server as local system, the script runs fine, but takes around 4 mins (360 seconds) to finish executing.
I want to adjust the timeout threshold for this script, and I understand that for this script timeout, there is no override available via the SCOM console, and I need to go into the management pack.
I've exported the management pack and I've found the vbs script contained within the management pack, however I was just looking for some guidance on what XML field(s) I should change to adjust the timeout?  Searching through the management pack I've
found several areas that might be what I'm after.
I guess I'm just after someone to point me at the right DataSource or Rule ID or something to edit, rather than me just taking a guess and reimporting a busted management pack that I then need to clean up.
    Cheers,
    Noel.
    http://www.dreamension.net

    Thanks Michael!
That didn't quite work out for me, but I eventually got it working.  At first I did change the <TimeoutSeconds> value under the script as per your diagram, and after reimporting the management pack and flushing the health service cache for good
measure, the script still failed with a 300 second timeout.
However I started looking through the rules in more detail, and I found some rules that reference a datasource with "Queue.Statistics" in the name.  I figured that's a close enough match to the VB script that's also running.  Here is a screen grab...
There were several rules & datasources that had "Microsoft.MSMQ.2008R2.DataSource.Queue.Statistics" in the name, and I changed the "TimeoutSeconds" value for all of them to 360 seconds.  I then reimported the management pack again, and now the script
    is completing.
Thanks very much for your assistance with this and giving me a nudge in the right direction.

  • Citrix NetScaler Management Pack Account

    Hello,
I read the documentation and noticed this:
The Citrix NetScaler Management Pack requires log on credentials of the NetScaler systems it is managing to be able to take corrective actions when the virtual servers become unhealthy.
I created the account in SCOM 2007, and associated it with the Profiles Citrix NetScaler PRO Authentication Account.
    1. What are the permissions needed in Active Directory for this account? Domain Users is enough or it needs specific privilege(s)?
    2. What are the permissions needed on the NetScaler Server needed? Local Administrators? Users? In the Application?

  • Need Management packs for mpseal

    Hello,
I need this MP to seeal another MP, can somone tell me from where to dld them?
Could not load management pack [ID=Microsoft.SystemCenter.Library, KeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, Version=7.0.8433.0].

No management pack for MPSeal. Management packs are sealed by using the MPSeal tool that is located in the SupportTools folder of the Operations Manager 2007 R2 distribution media. This is a command-line tool that creates a sealed .mp file from an unsealed
.xml file. After performing the sealing process, you can install the sealed management pack in your management group.
For Seal Management pack, you can check below link
