Thanks in AdvanceYour problem is:
"However , the primary network Interface on the system should be configured with a static IP address in order for the Oracle Software to function properly"
Your solution is
"See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP"
That book is at http://tahiti.oracle.com and the steps you need are in Chapter 2 of the Installation Guide for Linux.
Now, I could assume this is Oracle 11gR2 and you are using Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 Update 4, but I won't. Assuming things gets me into trouble. -
OracleAS cold failover cluster
I am installing oracleAS cold failover cluster. but during installing a am getting error in database configuration
assistant. can anybody help me?This is as simple as "Two heads think better that once", for this you will have two points (or more) of access to your applications, the process are split between servers and if one of the nodes fails, there are other to backup them. That's the only think that a Cold Fail Over cluster does, as well the administration is centralized if you have a nice configuration you will need to do only one configuration and all nodes will notice about it, finaly when you have a cold fail over cluster you have 50% of your potential workload in use, you have a server as a portrait that only is good to look at it but doesn't do nothing else, you dont need benchmarks or notes, this is really simple as it sounds.

Microsoft update KB 3002657 and 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization
After installing Microsoft update KB 3002657 on my Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization, nodes in cluster lost connection to CSV and all my VM's were moved to node owning the volume.
I lost whole day to solve that problem.
But should i keep that update not installed on cluster nodes or anyone maybe has a solution for that ?Hi a3pl,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior from the cluster perspective. Please offer us
more information such as the failover cluster validation error, the failover error event ID, with the current information it is difficult to presume which part may cause this issue, we strongly suggest you install the following update when you use failover
cluster.

10g in a Cold Failover Cluster
Hallo,
I have some doubts about configuration of a single instance in a two node cluster for a cold failover solution.
I mean,
1 - in listener.ora I should put the floating-ip hostname?
2 - to create a dbconsole, do I have to use ORACLE_HOSTNAME variable?
thanks in advanceEven if in Metalink note 362524.1,
a "failing over" db console need a shared home,
I successed in creating hostname indipendent one in few steps
1 - Setting ORACLE_HOSTNAME=clustername (and resolving the clustername with the floating ip in etc/hosts in server and client machines)
2 - Creating the db console with repository in active node and w/o repository on passive one.
That's all,
Bye -
OC4J Instances in Cold Failover Cluster
I'm running OAS 10.1.2.2.0 on a windows 2003 server under a cold failover clustered environment and was wondering... Is it recommended to have one web application deployed in it's own separate instance? For example, webapp1 deployed to instance1 and webapp2 deployed to instance2? Or would it be better to have multiple web applications deployed to one instance?
Thanks for any thoughts!user7575753 wrote:

Thanks for any thoughts!I can say your configuration is ok for single instance failover . Once u like to make cluster and load balance , OAS hs managed and non-managed cluster.
For Managed Cluster , you must setup either Oracle WebCache or F5 Big/IP . With regard to non-managed cluster, that means nothing required to share . -

How to deploy oracle 11g under cold failover cluster
Hi,
I am trying to install oracle 11g under failover cluster environments. I am trying to find some oracle documentation about it. But not able to find one. Can anyone help me. Please i need it badly.
we have two servers sun solaris 10. on which we have failover cluster being installed. one is active while one is passive. How can i install oracle 11g on this failover clusters. did i have to install oracle of shared SAN. what are the extra configuration i have to do please help
Also is it wise to install 11g warehouse with fail safe or use RAC.
regards
Nick
Edited by: Nick Naughty on Feb 1, 2009 4:02 AMthanks alot for reply.
I am of the same point of view. but the machine i am working on is sun solaris 10 with two partitions finance and accounts which have been protected by a failed over machine having two partitions finance and accounts and i think you are right these are the same shared storage folder which are mounted on active machine as well as on passive machine.
Now my question is if i install oracle 11g on one machine without oracle cluster then sun cluster should be able to mount the database in case the primary machine fails.
I have tried hard to get some documentation on this top but nothing so far. please help

Server 2008 R2 failover cluster for DFS servers
A new client currently has a couple Server 2008 R2 failover clusters (one at each of their two primary sites) as their two hub DFS locations. I'm confused, and can't see much of a reason for this implementation, which only seems to introduce added complexity
with no real benefits. Here are my reasons:
- At each site, the servers in the failover clusters are on the same server VM farms, hosted on the same SAN's.
- The data hosted on each node of the clusters are not identical. For example, server1 has 25 DFS replicated folders and server2 has 20 replicated folders. In fact, the ~25 folders on server1 are all named <site>-user, and the ~20 folders on server
2 are <site>-data. There appears to be no crossover.
So if the SAN fails, they're screwed. If the VM host fails, they're screwed. Why not just have two DFS servers at each site for redundancy within each site, and replicating with other site DFS servers as needed? I'm not super strong with failover clustering
at all though, so I may easily be missing something.Hi Steve,
From the description, as you said it seems create more factors which may cause a failure.
Using DFS on cluster could eliminate the possible of a single failing VM. However if the VM host is down, which will still leads to a failure. So actually the risk is still them same as just creating DFS namespace on these 2 VM hosts or any other file server.

OS/hw based failover cluster for WebLogic Server 9.2 Standard Edition
Hi
Is it possible to run WebLogic Server 9.2 SE on OS/hardware based cluster?
I want to get an simple failover environment on a cluster of 2 nodes (active-passive).
Oracle Database can be run in such scenario with one license with a limit of up time for passive instance.
Is it the same with WLS licences?

WDThe problem doesn't look like it has anything to do with wappers per se. The stack indicates that the JVM died when the persistent store tried to invoke a standard Java synchronize operation. JVM crashes need to be analyzed by a JVM expert, so I second the suggestion to solicit help from JVM experts and/or filing a case with customer support. In the mean-time, you can probably work-around the issue by either (A) ensuring you have a recent version of the JVM installed, or (B) temporarily switching to the Sun JVM.

Hi Folks
OEL 5.4 64bit, 11gR2
SCAN
I'm planning to install a two node cold failover cluster. I'm not sure whether it makes sense to use a SCAN listener or to do it the old fashion way (for each db a vip, which relocates with the db in the case the node goes down).
what's your opinion about this?
ASM for voting&ocr
I'm also planning to create one diskgroup in asm for 3xvoting and ocr, normal redundancy and 3 failgroups. Do I have to create the diskgroup with the QUORUM Keyword for each failgroup or not? as described here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10500/asmdiskgrps.htm#CHDBGAFB. I assume not, as they cannot store ocr files (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10592/statements_5008.htm#SQLRF01114).
what is your way to store the ocr and voting files?
is there a 11gR2 Version of this paper available (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/pdf/SI_DB_Failover_11g.pdf) ?
thanks

1- You can not install the grid infrastructure without the SCAN even if you will not use it.
2 - The old fashion you described is what is still in use independently from SCAN. You still have a vip which relocates in case the node goes down.
Where you use the SCAN is when configuring the REMOTE LISTENER and ALIAS for clients. But for those purposes, you can use the «old fashion» if you don't want to use the SCAN. But i believe that you should use it because it makes things become more easier.... -

Failover Cluster Scenario - Suggestions?
I am attempting to create a 2 node SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster and am trying to gather information about what might be a better configuration in my particular case.
This is home lab environment in a single ESXi host and as such there really isn't the need for a cluster to begin with, but I am trying to configure things as close to what I would find in a corporate environment as possible, hence me being so picky about
the configuration.
The SQL servers themselves will be running a few System Center databases, EPO, Exchange, Lync, and a few more smaller products (different instances will be used as per best practice). However, there will be under 10 users in total in the environment, so
the load should be insignificant.
My physical server is rather powerful (2x 6 core Xeon 2.13Ghz - 24 vCPUs -, 72GB ram, 8 x 900GB SAS disks), so VM resource allocation is not too much of a problem.
All my storage is local to the ESXi server so the way I see it there are two ways I can do this:
1. I can create a few shared disks in VMware and assign them directly to the SQL servers and form the cluster from there. These will be seen as local disks by the SQL servers but shared on the VM configuration side.
The advantage of this configuration is that it is easier to setup. It requires less VMs in comparison to method 2 and less administration overhead as far as the cluster is concerned.
However, because I am planning on utilizing multiple instances and each instance has to have it's own disks (one for the data files another for the logs, as per best practices), having to manually create disks in ESXi and add it to the two VMs every time
I want a new instance is a slightly more long winded way of configuring things than the 2nd method.
2. Another method would be to create a server as an iSCSI Target Server, and present the disks to the SQL servers as iSCSI storage. The SQL servers seeing the storage as iSCSI is a lot more similar to what you'd encounter on an corporate environment, so
I am leaning toward this currently, as it would allow me to play around with the iSCSI side of it too.
This would allow me to create just a single volume on the iSCSI Target Server and then multiple iSCSI Target Volumes that get presented to the SQL servers.
However, there is the obvious single point of failure with having a single iSCSI Target Server, so I'd have to create a failover cluster for that too.
Using this method would mean that there are 4 servers to manage instead of 2 (and 2 clusters instead of 1) but I think at least on the SQL side it would be a configuration more similar to what a corporate environment would have, and creating more instances
in SQL would require less steps (no configuration in ESXi required at all, everything done on the iSCSI Target Servers)
I imagine performancewise this will not be as good as all VHDX files (from the iSCSI target server) will be located on the same VMDK and all VMs are on the same host.
Still, for a lab environment with 10 users, I can't really imagine that being too much an issue to the point where I'd actually notice any issues - happy for someone to tell me otherwise.
Would appreciate any recommendations possible, depending on recommendations I do have further questions about the actual setup of it, hence raising this as a question (for example, I started creating it as the second method but am having some issues with
networking on the iSCSI target server cluster). No problem with running your environment on ESX because you are familiar with it. But one of the reasons Hyper-V is taking market share from VMware is because the old FUD that VMware used to throw around has all been debunked. Organizations realize
they are not giving up anything, and are often gaining things, by moving to Hyper-V.
+100500
Few reasons (except already mentioned maturity of Hyper-V that was not true 4-5 years ago)
1) Built-in Windows licensing (esp. Datacenter) that makes sense with many VMs
2) Free features inside free Hyper-V that free (or even paid) ESXi lacks (live migration of a VMs, VM replication etc)
3) "One throat to choke" in terms of support for both hypervisor OS and guest VMs OS
4) MUCH wider HCL for Hyper-V compared to what VMware has
5) Ability to control "kind of" Windows from Windows GUI (same happened before with Windows NT 4.0 takes over NetWare 4.x)
