Cold Fusion Studio in Windows 7
I thought this might be useful to some people, as I had this issue and spent hours trying to figure out a solution, and it seems several people posted in forums about something similar.
I had a windows 2000 machine at work for 8 years or so, and used CF Studio 5 as my editor, and loved using it. They finally upgraded my computer, giving me a new windows 7 machine. The problem was, when I tried installing CF Studio 5 (and 4.5), after installation, it would error out.
I tried downloading CF Builder and Eclipse, but both programs were missing features that CF Studio has that I liked using (Extended Find, easy to use snippetts, etc), so I was not happy, and searched online for a way to install my trusted CF Studio. Finally, I found a way.
Install CF Studio as normal, but instead of running the program normally
right click the executable, and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
Click the Troubleshoot Program option
Check the box stating "The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now
In my case, I chose Windows 2000
Start the program
CF Studio then worked great. The only issue is I couldn't pin it to the taskbar, but I'll take it.
Nothing against CF Studio 5, as I used it, myself, when it first came out.
But it's way overdue for being replaced. I've never tried CF Builder (and with what Adobe is asking for the price, I never will), and didn't like Eclipse. However, DreamWeaver CS3 and CS5 are both feature rich (including extended find and snippets), and work without extra effort in modern Windows environments.
And, remember, that just because Win7 has this "troubleshoot compatibility" mode does not guarantee that it will be in future releases, or that it will work with CF Studio 5 in the future.
Just food for thought.

Hi,
has anyone had experience with installing CF MX on a Windows 7 system?
I had trouble with Vista. I am planning to buy a new computer and they are all on Windows 7. I want to make sure if I will be able to have my CF MX installed on it without having problems.
Please advise. any help is greatly appreciated in advance.CF was CFMX until CFMX7: CF8 was the first without it. But, yes, you're right: knowing exactly what the OP is talking about would be helpful here.
I haven't had any problem installing CF8 or CF9 on Win7 (just the Starter version of Win7 for me... it's a netbook). Then again, I had no problems installing or 7, 8 or 9 ( simultaneously) on Win Vista (Home Premium) either. So the difficulties you encountered installing on Vista were not down to CF, so if it's an idiosyncracy of how you're doing the install, or the environment when installing (eg: not being logged in as an administrator), then you're quite possibly going to have hassles on Win7 too. Still: the easiest way isn't to guess, or to ask other people: it's to try it.
If the question is simply "is it supported", then there's a web page for that:
http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/systemreqs/ (or for CF8: http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/coldfusion8/systemreqs/)
(note that clearly the "supported" matrix is a subset of the "will run on" matrix, given I've had no probs on the unsupported versions I list above)
Versions of CF earlier than CF8 are being end-of-lifed, and are not actively supported by Adobe. This is not to say they won't work, they're just not supported. One should not be running a version of CF older than CF8. Not least because earlier versions are pretty bloody slow and less stable compared to CF8.

Cold fusion 8 and Windows Server 2003 Administrator Login
I cannot seem to login to my coldfusion (trial version)
administrator login after installed successfully on my Windows
Server 2003 with Web Edition Service Pack 2.
It tries to go here which is correct
http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
But I get
Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)
I attempted to go through IIS through default Web Sites and
browsed over to
http://192.168.10.19/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
and I now get a "The page cannot be found" display message.
Is there anything special I need to do, perhaps in Web
Service Extentions in IIS or something since I don't see
"Coldfusion" mentioned anywhere, and I can't seem to find any clear
instructions on the Adobe site.
Please help, thanks.You should
configure
IIS for Coldfusion. Pay particular attention to the section "To
verify your IIS configuration". -
I have been away from Coldfusion for a while what are most
developers using to work with their projects Dreamweaver or is
Studio still around?i think Eclipse+CFEclipse, Dreamweaver, Homesite and
TextMate/UlraEdit/Notepad will top the list.

New to cold fusion builder/eclipse (suggestion)
as an old farthead who has been using Cold Fusion Studio/Homesite for a long time, I've decided to give Cold Fusion Builder a try.
Unfortunately, I am a complete idiot when it comes to Eclipse.
For those of you with lots of experience using Eclipse, I would love to see some basic tutorials (video tutorials would be fantastic) on using Cold Fusion Builder.
I am certain that Adobe has thought of all this and will soon make some public announcements regarding Cold Fusion builder.
If there are books, tutorials, training materials in the works for Cold Fusion Builder/ and Cold Fusion 9, please let me know. I need a lot of help.If you are looking at basic videos to help you get started with ColdFusion Builder, you can see: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/coldfusion9/videos/
The ColdFusion Builder User Guide (available online both in HTML and PDF, and also as In-Product Help) will help you get started with ColdFusion Builder: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusionBuilder/Using/index.html
Since you indicate that you are new to Eclipse, you may want to pay special attention to the following topics in the User Guide:
Introduction to ColdFusion Builder: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusionBuilder/Using/WSf01dbd23413dda0e12bd24d3121eccf26c7- 8000.html
ColdFusion Builder Workbench Basics: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusionBuilder/Using/WS0ef8c004658c1089-2cf13501121af8ece2c -8000.html
Getting Started with ColdFusion Builder: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusionBuilder/Using/WSf01dbd23413dda0e3d098bb81213a52da18- 7ffd.html
These topics have been written with an intent to help users new to Eclipse to get acquainted with Eclipse-specific terms and concepts and effectively use ColdFusion Builder.
Hope this helps. And along the way, if you have any questions, do bring them up.
Thanks,

I am having a 64 bit machine on which windows server 2008 R2 is installed. IIS 7.0 is configured and running on it. on which I have my organisations main website. I have to install Cold fusion on this machine as some of my site pages are designed with CF.
I used all the default settings for installing cold fusion 9. It got completed succefully. But after I restarted my system and tried accesing my ASP.net website it was not loading the page. Text getting displayed was only as follows '<script> src="'. Later I unsistalled CF and my site was working fine.
Please can any one guide me to successfully install Cold fusion without disturbing my main site deployed on IIS ?Sarfarajms, I don't recognize what about the CF install would conflict with ASP.NET, but I'll note this:
If you downloaded CF 9 recently, you are still running 9.0--which does NOT formally support IIS 7. If you followed the steps about enabling IIS 6 compatibility and such (in the install guide or some blog entry), perhaps that caused the conflict.
Instead, you will want to install 9.0.1 (CF 9 Updater 1, which is NOT provided in the current 9.0 install). THAT is the first release to formally support IIS 7. And if you read the updater installation guide (http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/coldfusion/901/cf901install.pdf), it discusses how to deal with the upgrade depending on what you had done with respect to IIS, starting at the bottom of its page 8.
Hope that helps.

Windows Server 2003 and Cold Fusion
Hello all,
Our webmaster recently retired, leaving me in charge of our
intranet, which uses Cold Fusion. Now, I don't know much about CF,
and our System Administrator just asked me if I had any problem
with them running Cold Fusion 7 on a Windows Server 2003 box. It
looks like they should be compatible, based on what I've read, but
I wanted to know if anyone has experienced any pitfalls with this
setup? I wanted an answer from someone "in the know" before I gave
my folks bad info!
Thanks much!S_Allen wrote:

They work fine on our machines. The only real issue is that
overzealous
Windows 2003 security precautions can be a hassle during
installation.
But this is well documented and easily worked around. -
Xp pro config question with cold fusion(newbie)
Hello,
I'm a beginner and I want to learn studio mx 2004.In trying
to learn Macromedia MX for windows ,I've gone thru the installation
process in the manual for installing Cold Fusion for the server
side of things.My question is, I'm not sure if IIS is mnadatory in
order to use cold fusion.Is it a case of using one or the other or
is the IIS service required to run Cold Fusion? Also im using cold
fusion5 is cold fusion mx = to cold fusion 6.1?Thanks for answering. Is there any benefits to running both
servers? I
don't want to confuse myself with too many
options.Essentially,I could
learn Dreamweaver (my ultimate goal) by using either
installation.
No, while it is possible to run multiple versions of CF, it
takes extra
configurations to do so. I would say this is unnecessary for
just
learning. I would strongly suggest upgrading. CF 5 is the
oldest and
most limited version of CF still officially supported by
Adobe. The
latest version is 7.0.2. There is a huge, major, complete
rewrite of CF
and many other bug fixes and enhancements between CF 5.x and
the current
version.
The current version and all versions of CF are free for
download from
Adobe for a personal development copy. If you do so now,
before you
start writing code, the upgrade install IIRC is quite
painless and will
use the configurations you have already chosen. -
How do you determine what version of PHP is on the cold fusion server
I am trying to find out what version of PHP is on my cold
fusion server, how do I do this? Does coldfusion come with
PHP?In the C:\Windows folder, locate the file called php.ini and
open it in Notepad.
<?php phpinfo() ?>
I answered it myself. Maybe it can help someone else. -
Modifying cold fusion script not picked up by iis
We are running coldfusion 7, using iis6 on windows 2003 server. I am not a cold fusion developer and this is the only coldfusion script we have created by a previous developer. I needed to make some simple modifications to the script, including a change in the title. After having restarted IIS the modified script is still not showing the new title. What do I need to do for iis to show the changes in the cfm file?
It's in the CF Administrator, which is separate from the JRun Admin Console. You can often get to the CF Administrator with a URL like this:

Can you run the latest Cold Fusion version in association
with CS3 Web Premium for Mac on a Mac without a Windows
shell?Scooter,
I use a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.4.9) and run CFMX 7.0.2 (on top
of JRun 4 and NOT as a standalone web server) with no issues. I
also have CS 2.3 Premium on my machine. I will be getting CS3 in
about a week or two when it releases but there should be no issues
whatsoever with this configuration. -
Flex/cold fusion wizard & Visual Query builder has a problem
has anybody tried the cold fusion / flex application wizard in flex 3?
to get there follow these menu choices:
file new other cold fusion wizards coldfusion / flex application wizard
I previously installed cf8 and the rds query viewer works fine.
i simply choose from the following menus:
window other views... Cold Fusion RDS dataview
i was initially prompted for the rds password which i entered.
in the RDS Dataview, I can see the tables, columns, and data for all my existing datasources.
Unfortunately, when I use the COld Fusion/Flex application wizard,
I get to the page layout and design screen, add a page with the name artists, choose page type master, and click the Edit master page button.
Nothing happens when I click the Edit Master Page button. I followed the cf/flex tutorial exactly but there is no query builder.
I dont know if this is related but in the RDS query viewer, the Visual Query BUilder doesn't work.
I think this may be the problem (the visual query builder has a problem)
Unfortunately, how do I fix this problemalready found the answer
flex has to be run as administrator if using WIndows Vista
simply shut down flex, right click the startup icon, choose run as administrator, and the visual query builder runs fine.
Dont know why this occurs because you are always prompted for the rds password.
anyway, problem solved.

What can be done when Cold Fusion 9 ODBC Services will not install?
What can be done when 64-bit Cold Fusion 9 ODBC Service will not install on a Windows Server 2008-R2 64-bit machine? Yes, most of the things in other discussions have been tried.
Hi GDMVU,
Save the below code as CF9_RemoveOdbc.cfm
<cfscript>
//login using admin
//createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.administrator").login("administrator_password" );
createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.administrator").login("admin");
//instantiate datasource object
myObj = createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.datasource");
</cfscript>
<cfscript>
writeOutput("Removing ODBC Services...<br>");
returnValue = myObj.removeODBCservice();
writeOutput("ODBC Services removed");
</cfscript>
Save the below code as CF9_InstallOdbc.cfm
<cfscript>
//login using admin
//createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.administrator").login("administrator_password" );
createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.administrator").login("admin");
//instantiate datasource object
myObj = createObject("component","cfide.adminapi.datasource");
</cfscript>
<cfscript>
writeOutput("Installing ODBC Services...<br>");
returnValue = myObj.installODBCservice();
writeOutput("ODBC Services installed");
</cfscript>
Now try the following steps:-
Change admin password in above .cfm pages for your CF 9 server.
Use RemoveObdc cfm page first to remove any existing faulty/corrupted Odbc services.
Use InstallOdbc Odbc services to install Odbc services there.
Hope this helps.

JDBC/Cold Fusion to 8.1.6 DB
I'm using the 8.1.7 JDBC client on a Win2K Cold Fusion Server. The client connects to the database, but frequently hangs in the midst of a simple query. When I look at the task manager in Windows, the jrun process has maxed out at 99% with very little RAM being used. I'm trying to figure if this is a JDBC problem or a java runtime bug.
anyone have suggestions?Update: I am running the rmjvm.run( true ) procedure to remove the jvm install. This is hanging as well. It creates the 'MONSTER' rollback segment, via the initjvmaux.rollbacksetup call, but then hangs (it appears) after that...I'll let it run a bit longer but this getting very frustrating is to say the least (of course, I have said more @()$*&@$(*#&!!!).
If I do a fresh install on the same machine, same parameters, and everything works then Oracle needs to work on their conversion utilities...and I thought their problems were just limited to their GUI tools...oh well. Oh yeah, perhaps a class action lawsuit against big O for loss of productivity because their conversion utility didn't work as documented. Don't get me wrong, best DB on the market, unfortunely, that's where their success ends in my opinion. -

recommend you uninstall CFMX6 and install the latest CFMX 7.02 at:

or at least install CFMX 6.1 updater 1. Both are available at the
