Cold lockups, irql driver issue and MORE

Ok ladies and Gents I figured I would make a thread as to what I have done with my machine and see if anything is better, and or worse or anymore I can do... My first try at installing everything failed... BAD LOL, however I am a hard working man so I reinstalled everything on XP pro tried again, after installing all the drivers I got random blue screens IRQL blue screen... I logged into safe mode with networking and downloaded sp2 for administrators and logged into true safe mode, I then installed it, and reinstalled drivers this stopped that problem and things were way more stable. Then I had issues with random cold freezes.. games or what not it happened NOT as often as before but still happening... I went into BIOS and set to optimal settings, then turned off my onboard sound for soundcard, moved RAM to slot one and two, and set my voltage on ram to 2.7, then turned of the extra AGP write fast, and everything atm looks good but my last lockup took about 2 hours... so I dont know as Ive only been on an hour... IF anyone has any more suggestions please let me know... I have K8N Neo 2 AMD athlon 6500, Geforce FX 5200 256, with 2 512s... Well any suggestions would make me a happy man THANKS!!
Matt--

Well guys it appears that this works... as a guy who spends his whole life working on computers and there ilk this was a bit confusing, being a Dragon (soyo) fan I had heard the wonders of the MSI boards, and after reading reviews I went this route.. The initial prolbems with drivers (removed my removable HD from drive bay and installed another) occur after installing the nvidia drivers for the MB, Im not sure what combination caused this but I can replicate the problem, and I also dont know what about SP2 fixed the issue, but that in fact it helped.. The second issue was a RAM issue for sure.. Nothing worked till I moved my ram and then upped the voltage to the sticks to 2.7. After this no lockups after intense gaming for 9 hours... So I think my issue is solved or appears to be anyway. My first taste of msi was problematic but these boards help a bunch, and I will be giving my advice to anyone in the future and checking this on a regular basis... THANKS MSI... my gaming is great now!!
Thanks,
Matt

  • Toshiba Satellite a505-6005 hard drive issue and questions regarding options I may have

Issue: start up computer and windows does not start. It eventually goes to a startup repair screen and eventually says "resolving disk errors...", and that's if it even gets to that screen. Unfortunately I never made a recovery disk or system image discs (I know that was not smart). I did however kept my files backed up so that was good.
Steps I took: Took it to Best Buy and the tech advised me that the Black Tie 2 year protection had expired on Jan 30th 2012, and so it could not be repaired for free. I asked the tech there how much it would cost to fix and they had advised me that it was most likely a hard drive issue and that it would cost nearly $400 to replace/fix it. So I decided to buy a new Asus K53E-BBR14 laptop since it was not much more. When I got home and loaded everything up and got the computer to how I want, I went ahead and made a recovery disc and system image disc's. I tried using the recovery disc that I had made with my Asus in the Toshiba laptop and boot it from the dvd drive and it did not get anywhere. So I ASSUME that it really is a hard drive error because the RAM worked just fine in my new laptop and "repairing disk errors.." means something is wrong with the hard drive:
Now that you know the background of what has happened my questions are as followed:
    1. Can I buy a new hard drive for the Toshiba and use the recovery and system image disc's i created on the new hard drive that i install in the toshiba? and just removed the bloatware from Asus (or does that not even get added to the disc's I created)?
    2. If so, will it prompt me to enter the Windows 7 product key? and therefore using the product key located on the bottom of the toshiba?
    3. What other steps could I take to make this toshiba laptop salvageable? This way i can turn around and sell it.
    Thanks,
    Russell States

    Also,
I noticed that i can purchase (well pay the shipping anyways) recovery media from Toshiba. Can I use that on a new hard drive installed in the toshiba?
BTW ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool and no problems were found with the memory. and i do not care about the old hard drive as I have MY files backed up. I just want to try to get this toshiba laptop back to being "like new".
    Thanks,
    Russell

  • How do I find my tab history? I had hard drive issues and when I launched my browser after getting it back their was no "restore session" option. I know a tab history is kept, just don't remember where or how to exercise it. Thanks

    Question
How do I find my tab history? I had hard drive issues and when I launched my browser after getting it back their was no "restore session" option. I know a tab history is kept, just don't remember where or how to exercise it. Thanks

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Problems installing windows on a clean Mac Pro internal drive - issues and questions

    Hey,
I have a Mac Pro mid 2010 with the following drive configurations:
3x120GB SSD in a RAID-0 as Boot (OS X 10.8.6) and SSD Scratch (working files)
3x4TB HDD in a RAID-0 as Master (data) and HDD Scratch (downloads)
1x100GB SSD (Spare...to install windows on)
I have literally tried every possible way of installing Windows 8 on that single SSD...both using bootcamp and without.
I can get it installed and working, install all the drivers/updates/software...involving multiple reboots into windows. Everything seems fine, and i shut down and boot into OS X, which works perfectly as expected. BUT, when i try and boot into Windows again (using <option> key at startupand selecting the windows volume, called "EFI Boot" which i did not name) I can log in and start using apps and then 20-40 seconds later i get the BSOD.
I can't for the life of me figure out why.
It's the easiest thing in the world to partition a single OSX drive to boot windows ON THE SAME DRIVE, but i can't seem to boot stably into a standaloe internal drive.
NOTE: I prepare the Windows drive by formatting the entire thing to "Free Space" using disk utility in Mac OS X, and can see that there are no partitions (EFI or otherwise) on the drive. Then I pull all the other drives except the target drive, reboot with a Windows 8 USB drive (created by BootCamp Assistant on my macbook air, because apparently some genius thought that task was too complicated for a Mac Pro...jks) and install from there.  The funny part is that i can pick out the target drive in the windows setup, it's registering as 1 disk/partition of UNALLOCATED SPACE, as expected, but there is a warming that windows cannot be installed on this drive because my computer does not support booting to this disk, and that i should check that it's controller is enabled in the BIOS.....which to the best of my knowledge is not used by intel-macs, which use UEFI. But i can still click "Next", so I do and install Windows and boot to this drive, restarting and installing software updates and drivers as mentioned above.
The BSOD seems to pop up only after i've rebooted to Mac OS X and then try to go BACK to Windows 8.
The version of windows 8 and install USB were checked using my macbook air, and they work flawlessly. ASLO that warning about not being able to boot to the drive during windows setup isn't present.
I'm wondering if the fact the the RAID volumes are a software RAID, using Disk Utility in OSX is causing windows some issues...which makes no sense.
I'll keep playing, but I'm not confident I'm ever going to find a solution.
    Somebody be my hero...

    Hey Hatter,
    Another question for you:
I can't seem to use system preferences>>startup disk to boot into windows. When I select windows and then restart i get a black "BIOS-like" screen which then cuts out and a message is displayed that says "there is no bootable disc"
This stumped me, because I know i can boot into windows from the boot screen (holding down option and selecting "EFI Boot" which apparently is what my windows drive is called.
because of my Mac OSX Raid arrays, i had to install windows by formatting a drive to HFS+ (GUID) pratition table, then repartition to "Free Space" then using an install usb that i made with my macbook air, pull all my other drives and install by selecting the usb drive to boot from.
I went into disk utility to see if I can repair the disk, and disk utility says that the disk has to EFI partition and that we won;t be able to boot from it....which is very confusing because i can boot from it.
Windows 8 apparentl;y uses UEFI from my research....so i'm utterly stumped.
I beleive this is also the cause of my newly purchased graphics card Mac Edition HD 7950, throwing me a BSOD when i select to boot in windows from the boot menu...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • ATI driver issues and slow video playback

I just reinstalled Arch and I installed the ATI drivers, at first I couldn't get them working but when I did, video in full screen was amazingly slow, so I tried installing ati-drivers-arch, as someone in the boards suggested but after that each time I start X, it would crash my computer, so right now I am using the standard vesa driver to even start X.
Also when trying to resize mplayer (while using -vo gl) it says my computer is too slow. And VLC has no speed issues but the quality of the picture is very poor.
    I am running:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    ATI Radeon X800 GTO
    1.5 gb of DDR RAM

It doesn't look like xorg 7 has been installed.  The latest kernel 2.6.15 needs xorg 7, udev, and initrd .
I may be wrong but my xorg is much smaller in size and fonts are handled differently in the latest kernels.
Please see the blogs concerning the upgrades to the xorg 7 changes.

  • ImageCLASS D1120 Windows 8.1 driver issues and MF Toolbox problems

I'm having some real problems getting several imageCLASS series multifunction units to work in the windows 8.1 x64 environment.  most recently, I've been working with a D1120, and I can't get it to do any more than print reliably - no scan functionality at all.  I realize there are two issues here, so I'll try to break them apart as best as possible.  For reference purposes, i'm running windows 8.1 on a 64-bit system.  I was able to download the correct drivers and program from the canon website, and extracted them with no issue.
On the driver problem, I tried using the instructions found in this link, but windows went ahead and installed the 2009 series drivers regardless.  It's connecting via USB, and doesn't give me any option to update the drivers once "installed".
On the MF Toolbox problem, I've gotten it to do one one scan job, and then it starts throwing a variety of error messages at me.  First, it will say there is a data transfer error.  Then it will say there are no documents in the queue.  Then it will simply lock up and not start the scan job at all.  I tried using the instructions in this link, but didn't get anywhere.
Any way you can help on one or both of these issues?  I have a feeling they are related somehow...
    Z

    Hi merliner.
I will be glad to assist you.
The drivers may not be installed correctly because the Windows operating system is automatically installing the driver.  First, we will need to disconnect the printer from the computer and uninstall the drivers.  Since the drivers are being installed by the Windows system, I recommend uninstalling the drivers from the 'Print Server Properties' window.  Please follow the instructions below:
    1.  Open the [Devices and Printers] window.
    2.  Left-click, one time, on the Microsoft XPS Document Writer or the Send To One Note devices.
    3.  Click Print Server Properties in the Menu Bar.  (You will see "Add a device", "Add a printer", "See what's printing" and "Print server properties".)
    4.  Click on the [Drivers] tab.
    5.  Select the Canon drivers, then click [Remove].
    6.  Select "Remove Driver and Driver Package".
    7.  Click "OK".  (You may receive a message stating that the Package could not be removed.  This is fine.  As long as the driver is deleted from the list, you can continue.)
Once the drivers are deleted, restart the computer.  After the computer restarts, and leaving the USB cable disconnected, please follow the instructions below to install the drivers that you downloaded from the Canon USA website:
The file that you download from the Canon website is .ZIP file.  When you select [RUN], it unpacks the setup folder.
    1.  Please open your [Downloads] folder.
    2.  You will see two icons with the name: D1170_1150_1120_MFDrivers_W64_us_EN.exe . Double-click on the yellow folder icon with this name.
    3.  In the folder you will see two listings for [Setup].  Double-click on the [Setup] that has the type as [Application].
    4.  The "MF Drivers Setup Wizard" will open.  Proceed through the steps and restart the computer.
After restarting the computer, connect the USB cable and allow the installation to complete.  Finally, scan a document by following the instructions below:
    1.  Verify that MF Toolbox is closed on the computer and press the [SCAN] button on the printer.
    2.  The screen will show, "Scanning mode...".
    3.  On the computer, open the MF Toolbox and select [PDF].
    4.  Click the green [START] button on the [PDF] window.  The machine will start processing the scan.
I hope this information is helpful to you.  Should you need further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).

  • DV7-6c90us 2nd hard drive issues and AMD Radeon Issues

    The Problem:
1)My AMD card has always been flakey and I've tried multiple times to uninstall it permanently and can't, it won't let me. I want to remove it completely since I'd rather have access to the extra hard drive than the graphics card.
    2) when the card is working then my 2nd HDD won't work, but when the AMD card isn't working then my 2nd HDD works
    What I'm Working with:
    HP DV7-6c90us
    Intel Core i7 2670qm chip
16GB of RAM (I added them, Kensington 1666MHz system underclocked to 1333MHz since that's what the i7 maxes out at)
Then whatever obscure AMD Radeon graphics card came with my system.
    Windows 8 Pro
2nd HDD is a 1TB Segate Momentum drive, I pretty much took it from a Travel Drive and put it in my latop
Using the standard power brick that came with my laptop (120W)  and battery is almost always at 50% or better)
The laptop is just over a year old (got it 06/08/2012 from HH Gregg)
    What I've done:
Checked to make sure the 2nd HDD is installed correctly, it is and is plugged in to port two. It shows up in BIOS, but when you try to test it BIOS hangs. It's not corrupt since when it does decide to work, it works without any issues. It even works when I plug in my USB 3.0 adapter and use it as an external drive. That's not really an option since I am constantly transfering and managing that hard drive so it would be too much of an inconvenience.
I tried uninstalling AMD Radeon completely, but can't. I used a site that showed me what to delete from registry, Program File (x86), User App Data (Local and Roaming), and tried to uninstall it through "Programs and Features" under Control Panel (the Catalyst software). At every reboot it comes back like a virus. I don't need it, nor do I want it since the performance is so spotty and has always been, I do need the 2nd hard drive working again since i use it much more than I do AMD.

You will not like the answer but RAID is not possible on that machine. HP does have RAID function on some of the business models but the Pavilion is a consumer model and they have never had a RAID option on consumer models that I know about. Even if you could set up a RAID-0 array it would wipe out the data on the first drive and you would have to reinstall Windows from scratch and when you do a RAID-0 even on machines that permit it the two drives generally need to be identical, not just similar or the same size.
how is it then that some hp models ship with 2 HDD's but show up as one then eg there is a pavilion that is almost identical to mine sorry i don't know the model # but even more recent there are envy models that have this. or do they actually show as separate drives?

  • DVD drive issue and permissions repair

Forgive me if I'm combining two issues in this posting.  If they are not related I can separate them out.
I don't know if my drive is going, but I have a DVD for a tv show that I wanted to watch on my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard (latest patches).  For a while now I've had to keep reinserting the disc because it's not registering.  I put it in, and can hear mechanisms, then it spits it back out.
I watched one disc, ejected it then tried to play another and it just would not load.
I thought of checking disk permissions, thinking maybe the OS had some permissions problems that may be preventing it from reliably reading the disc.  The disk utility reported a number of permissions errors and owner errors, so I repaired the permissions and it reported that it was completed successfully.  I thought I'd run the verify permissions again, just to make sure the errors had really been repaired, and they're still there - some of them were gone, but there were others reported.  I ran the repair and verify a number of times now and nothing's changed.
    My questions:
    1.  Could the problem I'm seeing with my DVD drive be related to permissions of some of the system files?
    2.  Do I have anything to worry about with the disk permissions not appearing to be repaired?
    3.  Would I gain anything by booting to install media and running the verify and repair from there?
    Thanks much in advance!

Could the problem I'm seeing with my DVD drive be related to permissions of some of the system files?
If you've repaired permissions, and you still have the problem, then the answer is no.
Do I have anything to worry about with the disk permissions not appearing to be repaired?
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Would I gain anything by booting to install media and running the verify and repair from there?
    No.

  • CS4 - Layers Display Issue and more

I am running XP64 and have CS4-32 and CS4-64bit installed (using the updated and correct master collection installer)
CS4-32 is basically unusable to me because I cannot see what I am doing as changes are being made to layers. It does it does not display updates to a layer on the screen until I click on the photo. For example, I have a psd file with a background layer and a Gaussian blur layer. A layer mask was used to mask out portions of the blur. IF I simply click the eyeball off on the blur layer, I see no changes to the photo until I click inside the photo. Disabling/enabling the layer mask as the same issue.
If I use the brush tool to make adjustments to the mask, I can no longer see the mask in the layers pallet. The mask is displayed as tiny black and white dots and has no representation of my actual mask. As I brush changes onto the mask, I can see the effects in real time on the photo. But I still cannot see the normal B&W representation of the mask in the layers pallet. If I use the brush tool on the blur layer (not the mask), the photographic thumbnail representation normally displayed in the layer's palette also turns into displaying tiny black and white dots.
b What is causing this issue? Is it a setting that I can change or a bug?
The above issue(s) do NOT happen with CS4-XP64.
Upon startup in CS4-64, I get a GPU disabled message. in CS4-32, I do not. But in CS4-32, my CPU settings are dimmed out and openGL is NOT checked. I have the latest drivers for my video cards installed. In CS3, enable 3D acceleration is checked. IN AE CS3 and AE CS4, it lists that my openGL is 2.1.2 and all features of AE are supported. What open-GL version does PS-CS4 need?

Who was asking for sympathy? I was only asking for help, which a few people were kind enough to provide. I see no reason for people to make posts on other people's threads that do not offer any help. If you think that I am stupid for using an unsupported OS, then just don't post and keep those feelings to yourself. How are posts like this constructive? I even stated in my last post that I knew that I was not going to get any help from Adobe. So why reiterate that? What is the purpose of your and these types of posts? I am as baffled by them as you apparently are about why I am using XP64.
But if you must know why I do not go to another OS, it is because back when I built this computer, XP64 was the only 64 bit OS around. I have this computer in a dual boot with XP PRo 32 bit and XP64. XP64 has, up to this point, been the most stable platform for me to run the adobe suite of products on. I can clearly say this since I have installed (and since deactivated) them on the same hardware under the XP32 boot. But XP64 has, again, been very stable. I have had many iterations of Adobe software on everything from Win 200 to several on XP and on Vista. And without a doubt this XP64 machine has been the most stable for what I do.
The other reason why I continue to use XP64 is because I cannot upgrade to Vista 64 without a totally new computer. The MB drivers have not been developed for Vista.
And lastly, 64 bit allows me to run more programs at once by utilizing more total memory, even with 32 bit applications. I could install the suite on my XP32 version of the same machine but I'd rather continue to use XP64 with CS3 than not having the stability and ability of running more applications simultaneously that I can with XP64.
So yea, my living depends on my software working correctly too and PS CS3 will work just as well today as it worked before I installed CS4. It is just not worth it for me to spend thousands of dollars on a new PC just so that I have say that my computer is run under a supported OS. As we have seen here, a supported OS is not a guarantee that the software does not have bugs in it. This issue will not affect my ability to make a living. It is only a minor inconvenience that will undoubtedly be fixed in time.

  • Permissions issues and more

So I've replaced my system hard drive hoping it would fix issues I've been having. I had 250 GB drive and I changed it out for a 2TB drive. I recently upgraded to SL 10.6.3. Sometime when I start up my HD starts indexing and everything becomes incredibly slow. Most programs will not open and now my machine freezes up. So I thought I have a failing HD, but I'm still having the same issues.
After installing a new HD I get this when repairing permissions:
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”

Group differs on "Applications/Utilities/AirPort Utility.app/Contents/Resources/pl.lproj/AAUDrives.nib/keyedobjects.nib", should be 0, group is 80.
    And on and on.
I have two user logins. One has admin privileges and the other does not. Could this be an issue?
I also connect to a Facilis Shared File System via fiber channel which I have read and write permissions to. This mounts at start up. Maybe this is the issue?
Thanks for the help in advance!

you are having it sounds like the same problem(s) you had before with this.
Did you clean install? start from scratch? clone with SuperDuper? Run Disk Warrior?
Made sure that the Get Info for the destination system volume has "ignore ownership" not selected? it shouldn't be anyway with an install or internal hard drive.
Hopefully this is brand not a GREEN variety drive?
It is normal for some messages to show when running REPAIR PERMISSIONS and I'm not sure what you installed or why AirPort and others are listed.
If you continue to have problem keep eye on Memory tab in System Profile, and test your RAM with Rember/Memtest and AHT.

  • Random shut down issues and more, apple recieved puter today, on hold

Ok so i have all the signs of a bad logic board or messed up puter. Mooing, random shut downs, dies during screen saver, and dies when lid is closed. I sent unit in yesterday, they got it today. Website sai on hold for infomation. So I gave them a call. They said they reseated the ram and its working and what else was wrong. I told then the mac genius did this twice and did all the other reset, then i got it home and it died again. There gonna start running more tests on it, i told her to tell the tech of the terminal thing to do to cause shut downs. ANd i told her of this post. She was extreamly nice to me and said there going to take care of me. they have had it for one afternoon, so i cant yell yet. I did ask that they replace the unit and send me a new one, she said they will run a more tests and go from there. I pointed her towards this forum as im sure many of you have and she said there going to and have been checking it out. So I guess there ontop of the issue. My bigest fear was getting the unit back andhaveing same problems. But hey thats what customer service is for so ill give applecare there fair chance first. Ill keep ya updated.

    here another scientist.
Firmware is reversible by reflashing it ... it just
need another set of istruction in binary package.
My ISSUE is related ONLY with firmware,
    mathematically.
Actually that's only partially true. It's only reversible by reflashing if someone has released the "reflash" package, which Apple has not. And so long as the changes it made allow a rollback of sorts. Many firmware updates will very clearly state that they can not be removed or undone. So... in your case, the previous poster was correct... it is impossible, through software to reflash your MacBook firmware
Go ahead and try to even reload the firmware, your MacBook knows it is already updated and will not allow the firmware to be reflashed.
Please, put your energy towards some other project, the SMC Firmware update, no matter how "coincidental" the timing of your RSD was, is not the root cause of the RSD.
BTW - I will echo the same comments about your experience with the so called Apple Genius, he's a tool
Call Apple or go to the Store and speak with someone else, in fact ask the Apple Genius if he is familar with the MacBook Random Shutdown. If he is not, ask to speak with one that is. The Apple Genius I spoke with was indeed familar with the problem and was simply great in processing my repair. Every instance so far has been related to a hardware problem.
    Good luck

  • Qosmio G10-133: I am having random lockups - Graphic driver issue

    Hi
my machine screen goes blank at random and i get the below error message which suggests i need finally the latest graphic driver. Uninstall the Nividea driver from my machine which appeared to fix the problem but my graphics were reduced. I then reinstalled from the Toshiba site the graphic driver and i have the same problem.
    Please can you help?
Error caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver: no specific solution found.
Thank you for submitting an error report.
    Problem description:
An unknown error occurred in NVIDIA Graphics Driver, created by NVIDIA Corporation.
    Recommendations:
NVIDIA Corporation is currently not aware of a specific solution for the problem that you reported. Below is a list of recommendations to take that may help prevent the problem from recurring.
    1. Download and install an updated NVIDIA Graphics Driver from one of the following locations:
    Microsoft Update
    NVIDIA Corporation
    2. If an updated driver is not available, check with your computer manufacturer.
    3. If you are running the latest version of NVIDIA Graphics Driver, please contact NVIDIA Corporation for your support options.
    Additional information:
If this problem continues to occur with the latest product updates for NVIDIA Graphics Driver we highly recommend you obtain assistance and troubleshooting information directly from NVIDIA Corporation.
If you are not familiar with NVIDIA Graphics Driver and you are questioning how the program was installed on your computer, it is possible that the program was installed with another program. If you do not know why NVIDIA Graphics Driver is running, many programs configure themselves to start automatically every time you turn on your computer.

    Hi
I agree with previous comment. We don?t know what did you done with your unit and why the display driver makes problems now. The fact is that you should use the display driver designed by notebook manufacturer and not from graphic card producer.
How to say now what you can do? Advice given by NVIDIA is correct. Try to start the unit in safe mode using F8 key at the start up. From device manager remove listed graphic device or even graphic driver software listed under software in control panel (if you can find something there). Restart the unit and when WXP is loaded try to install Toshiba designed driver again.

  • Satellite L300D-11A - DVD-drive issue and Blue Screen

    Hi
I'm going out of my mind :o//
My Satellite L300D-11A was delivered with a Windows Vista Home Premium, but I recently made a clean installation of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.
Since then I have had problems with "Blue screen error's" comming randomly. Have purchased and installed a Registry clean up program, but that did not fix the problem. Any one else with that problem - and a possible solution.
And now for my big problem. My CD and DVD drive is driving me crazy ;o) It's a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA and from my search on the internet I have found that a lot of other Mat****a owners have had the same or similar problem(s). My drive will not regonize or play/read from CD's. DVD with movies or programs I can play. Burning CD's is not possible and burning DVD's is sometimes working, and other times not.
I have read about the different fixes that is posted - also here on the Toshiba forum - Non of the suggested solutions is working for me - any new solutions that I could try.
Seriously thinking about buying a external USB DVD drive/burner - but can someone please tell me why Toshiba does not get the fingers out off their B** and find a solution like it seams Sony has done.
Look forward to any reply ;o))
Someone once told me about this quote - "Don't wish it was easier - work on getting clever !" I need your help to get clever ;o))

    > But I do not now how/where to get the registration keys! I have tried looking for them.
Are you talking about *Upper/Lower Filters* ?
Follow these instructions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters:
Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
    Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
    Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
    Expand the "Control" Key
    Expand the "Class" Key
    Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
High light this key by left clicking once on it
On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
    Reboot your computer

  • DVD drive issues and other problems

Nothing but problems with my mac since day one. This is the reason why I went from PC to Mac to avoid all these problems.
Started with DVD drive problems. Took my computer in as they said wound need to replace the drive -and it would take a week.... sorry I can't be down for a week. Many of my businesses rely heavily on me have access to my computer.
There have been many small glitches since then also. Some times the display wont come back on after I have closed the lid and re-opened. Only way to get it working again is to do a manual restart.... and sometimes that doesn't even work.
    <Title Edited by Host>

I forgot to mention that I have also cleared my PRAM (a few times) -- so that's probably not the culprit.
