Coldfusion Builder now available

Dunno if/when this was released in the States, but it's just come out in the UK.
However, it's £200 ($300), which for what it is I can't help but feel is pretty steep. Does anyone else have any opinions on this? Bearing in mind *all* it does is ColdFusion, whereas the (free) Eclipse IDE on which it is based also supports Java development, C, PHP, pretty much anything.
I was largely unimpressed with the Beta over CFEclipse, the only real benefit so far being that the CF9 syntax highlighting is there, plus the highlighting for script-based components.
I've never really been one for debuggers and addons, I've never really required them. Which means one of two things. Either:
1 - These features are largely unused gimmicks, which don't really perform any benefit - I'd always use SQL*Plus or SSMS for interacting with databases, I strongly dislike using RDS. Except for little plugins (Regex tested etc) I don't think I use any of the extra bits.I don't like having an IDE build my classes for me, because I like to have checked every single property and method myself and have thought about them one by one.
2 - I'm an idiot, and I'm massively missing out on some amazing features which would save me hours of my life.
I'd be genuinely interested to know if people will be purchasing Builder (and also if it's your own money or company funds) and if so, what is it that sold it to you?
Cheers
O.

>I think every CF9 licence should come with some number of CFB licences.
>And there should be some free variation of CFB (which doesn't have debugging,
>or doesn't have extensions, or has a cap on how many projects one can create, or something).
I completely agree there. What bugs me really, is how Adobe is not helping ColdFusion becoming more popular. I almost think it's better to lie "You don't need an IDE" than saying "There's an IDE but it costs hundreds per license" to a project manager unfamiliar with CF.
Let's take Finland - because I live there. 5 million people, known as a technologically advanced country, the home of Nokia, etc.
Number of software houses providing ColdFusion solutions: 1 using primarily, 1 mainly for serving old customers.
Number of software houses openly advertising "ColdFusion" as their technology: 1
Number of ColdFusion coders in those companies: approx 5 to 6.
Number of open ColdFusion positions on the national employment office's pages within the last SEVEN years: 1
On the same page, number of open (web) programmer positions with PHP in primary requirements TODAY: 45.
(These numbers are personal estimates, made by observing the Finnish ColdFusion scene since 1996 very closely. Of course, some private and in-house developers who adopted ColdFusion years ago, are not showing in these figures)
As ColdFusion has been proven to be practically dead in some snowy, cold corners of the universe, I feel strongly about issues which prevent ColdFusion from getting more popular. There's no chance in hell CF will become even a _known_ product in countries where it's already dead. It doesn't matter at all how good the technology is, if companies know there's no one to replace a coder if he quits the position.
And yet, I'm optimistic, crazy, naive, wishing I can make a difference and my living with it, because ColdFusion rules. So I bought CFB...

Hi everyone from the Build 2015 conference happening right now in San Francisco! If you haven’t already, check out Terry’s blog post about all the Windows 10 announcements we made today. If you’re at Build this week or at Ignite in Chicago next week – keep your eye out for me and say hello!
Today we have a new build available to both the Fast and Slow ring for Windows Insiders (that means we’ll have ISOs available too for those of you who like a clean install.) With this build we continue to evolve the features and design for Windows 10, and you’ll see a lot of subtle changes and improvements, many of which were influenced directly by Windows Insiders. One of those changes is the reintroduction of some Aero Glass elements in the UI, but there are many more things throughout the product as well. We continue to use your feedback directly day to day in how our feature teams operate, and we hope that Windows 10 will be the best version of Windows yet because you had a direct hand in its creation.
One other subtle change that you’ll notice is that we’ve changed how we talk about the builds from “Technical Preview” to “Insider Preview” to reflect the importance of the Windows Insider community in how we’re building Windows 10.
And speaking of Windows Insiders, we were super excited to host the 10 winners of our Windows Insiders to Campus contest in Redmond last week and hear their thoughts on the program and the product. We’ll share more on that soon.
Here is what’s newSome of the things that Joe demoed on stage earlier today during the Build keynote are not yet included in this build and will be in future builds. But we still have a bunch of new stuff for you to check out!
General UX improvements: We made a bunch of UX improvements with the last build and you’ll see even more in this build. For example, you’ll notice a new Live Tile animation for Start in addition to in addition to some performance and stability improvements for Live Tiles.
We’ve done work to better support high DPI displays. And we know many Windows Insiders are running multi-mon setups – often with 2 monitors with different DPI. You will start to see some work we’re doing to make sure core UX components in Windows scale correctly on both your monitors so things look nice regardless of DPI.
We’ve also heard loud in clear that many Windows Insiders want to see Aero Glass from Windows 7 make a comeback. We’ve been working out how to satisfy this request, and are trying some things out with this build to see how you like them. We’re running a little A/B test with this build. 50% of you will normal transparency on the Start menu and taskbar while the other 50% will see a blur effect on the Start menu and taskbar (like frosted glass). If Windows Insiders really like the blur effect, we will add it to more areas and even consider making it the default instead of standard transparency. Which one did you get? Send us feedback about it via the Windows Feedback app!
Even more improvements to Continuum: We’re continuing to make Continuum better and invest in a simplified taskbar. Additionally when you close an application in Tablet mode, we take you back to the Start screen instead of the desktop as you would expect when using a tablet. You will see general polish on snapping, and the shared divider between two snapped windows now let’s you adjust the size.
Multi-tasking improvements: We’re continuing to refine and complete our mulit-tasking experience with Windows 10. Check out Alt-Tab, Task-View, and Snap Assist. Snap Assist also now supports the ability to close a window during Snap Assist.
New default Windows sounds: We’ve heard a lot of feedback from people that they want some fresh system sounds for Windows 10. Check them out and let us know what you think.
Visual refresh for Cortana: You will see a visual refresh for Cortana in this build that makes the experience feel more ingrained into the overall Windows experience. Start and Cortana are now more tightly integrated. As you start to search for an app from within Start, Cortana can seamlessly take over and bring back the right result. The new Windows split view control has been added to Cortana’s left rail, offering quick access to key Cortana functionality like the Notebook, Reminders or Feedback on how Cortana’s doing. This split view control helps anchor Cortana to the rest of the Windows UI and provides navigation consistent with many other Windows first party applications.
New experiences in Cortana: We are making available some new and updated experiences in Cortana powered by Bing Instant Answers. Cortana will aim to answer your question while you’re still typing. Here are a few questions you can try:
Weather – “Seattle Weather”
Finance – “MSFT stock”
Dictionary – “define astounding”
Calculator – “48*92”
Flight Status – “UA 238”
Reference – “how tall is brad pitt”
Showtimes – “movies near me”
Tech Help – “memory in my computer”
Time Zone – “time in London”
Unit Conversion – “42 ft in meters”
Chit Chat – “tell me a joke”
Updates for the Music and Video Preview apps: We’ve also shipped updates to these apps. The Music Preview app (3.6.999.0) has some UX improvements including a more immersive Now Playing experience with a true full screen mode. With the Video Preview app (3.6.999.0) – you can download movies, TV shows, and TV seasons and check progress, pause, resume, cancel the download. You can also download, delete, and even re-download videos as many times as you want on up to three devices (we’re planning to increase the number of devices you can download content too!). Closed captioning for purchased content now appears. You will see a list of new features when you first launch these app after each update!
Xbox app April 2015 update: The Xbox app for Windows 10 has been updated (your version number should be 4.4.9014.0 or higher) with new features like Game DVR for PC games, screenshots, a Live Tile, user profiles, and real-name sharing. Oh and the drivers for Xbox controllers are now included with Windows 10, so you no longer have to download and install controller drivers on Windows 10. For more on this month’s Xbox app for Windows 10 update as well as the new Avatars app – read this blog post.
Windows Store Beta improvements: We’re excited about delivering a single unified Store experience in Windows 10 which we’re talking more about this week at Build. We’ve made some improvements to the Store Beta which is now a blue tile instead of grey. Xbox Live games should be working and so are in-app purchases. Apps you purchased on a PC running Windows 8.1 will now show up in the Store Beta on Windows 10 as owned (and vice-versa). We’re also expanding the Store Beta from 41 markets with the addition of these new markets: Afghanistan, Åland Islands, Albania, Algeria, American Samoa, Andorra, Angola, Anguilla, Antarctica, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Aruba, Azerbaijan, The Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Benin, Bermuda, Bahrain, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bonaire, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Bouvet Island, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Iceland, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malta, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Venezuela.
Discovering features and apps in Windows 10: We are investing in easy “bite-sized” learning and discovery experiences so that users can get more out of Windows 10. This ranges from tips and tricks on the Lock screen, to helping users discover high quality apps through Start, the Lock screen and Cortana. Be confident that you won’t miss out on new features and enjoy the ease of having high quality apps curated for you. It’s optional, and if anything doesn’t strike your fancy, you can provide feedback directly, such as whether you like an image or an app. These new experiences will be rolling out over time, so you may not see them in your market yet.
Here are some things we fixed
You can now launch Win32 (desktop) apps from the Start menu again. Sorry about this bug!
You should be able to download music in the Xbox Music and Music Preview apps.
When you minimize an app playing audio, it should continue playing in the background.
Here are some known issues
Developers cannot enable Developer Mode in the Settings app for installing and testing apps on this build. We’ll enable this in an upcoming build. In the meantime, you will need enable your device for development using the Group Policy Editor.
There is an issue in this build preventing some games from playing in full screen mode. We’re working to get a fix out via WU as soon as possible.
The People app continues to crash. We’re planning to release an update for the People app through the Store Beta that fixes this.
We hope you’ll agree that 10074 has some nice improvements and is another step forward towards delivering a great Windows 10 release. Please put it through the paces and keep sending us feedback on the things that you like and the things you want us to keep working on using the Windows Feedback app. I hope that you’ll also download the development tools released at Build and will build some terrific Universal Windows apps as well!

Mudit

Maybe 4 or 5 years ago; but now the need to develop mobile ready sites or apps using HTML5, JavaScript and CSS has increased. PhoneGap is presently used more than before to the point that Adobe has recognize its popularity in many ways. Making it part of Dreamweaver is not in my opinion excess luggage. Developers have always the option to pick and choose what to use from Dreamweaver. Maybe a specific developer doesn't need the PHP features in Dreamweaver; that doesn't mean that feature has to be removed.
Most of the things we do with Dreamweaver can be done without it. Dreamweaver is there to help us save time and be more productive. This is why I feel that helpful features shouldn't be removed; instead they should be improved and solutions implemented to issues that sometime seem impossible to address.

• SQL Developer Extension, GeoRaptor Release 2.1.1 (Build 3) now available

Cross Post.
See details at: GeoRaptor Release 2.1.1 (Build 3) Available for SQL Developer
regards
Simon Greener

Hi,
The original GeoRaptor had some documentation but it has not been updated.
It is a task on the development list but it has a low priority next to the developments we have planned for the next release. (The main ones being the ability to map the whole, or part, of a SELECT statement executed in a SQL Worksheet - including export to shapefile; the addition of multiple SRID-aware Views to enhance the current single, SRID-unaware view; length/area tools; line and polygon selection tools.)
The attribute and geometry tabs in the pane in the lower half of the spatial view will appear when an "identify" operation is executed and selected data exists.
The split into attribute and geometry tabs was done to better control the visualisation experience of a user. The original Geometry tab displayed a single geometry in a non-standard way and allowed a user to drag select ordinates which could then be mapped. The button should have been removed in build 3 but it wasn't. It will probably do nothing. Perhaps in the next release we might replace the button with an ability to select and individual geometry, highlight it and show its points or even show elements in a multi-element geometry eg show me inner ring 2 in the first outer-ring of a multi-polygon. Don't know. If anyone wants this type of functionality register an enhancement request on the sourceforge GeoRaptor website.
Remember, GeoRaptor is an open source, community driven tool. If you want to help by writing documentation eg a simple one page wiki page on how to validate geometry etc (it doesn't have to be a whole manual), or contribute code, let us know. Or if you simply like the tool or want an enhancement, let us know.
It is hard writing a tool in the vacuum of one's own experience (no matter how considerable that might be) in a land far, far away (I live in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia), to let us know how we are going......
regards
Simon

• ColdFusion Builder plugin console

I just don't understand what I am doing wrong here. I updated ColdFusion builder as a plugin installed in 3.5.1. I also have Flex 3 /subclipse and a few other plugins installed. When I restart my localhost or want to view orm sql logged to the console, nothing appears. After a restart I get this.
[localhost]:(12/18 at 09:54:11) Server is available. Getting server settings from Server
[localhost]:Error(12/18 at 09:54:12) Unable to fetch server mappings.
[localhost]:Error(12/18 at 09:54:12) Unable to get the log directory.
On my laptop (at home and work) I have Builder running as standalone and this works fine on both of them. What can I do to fix this? I really like logging info to the console.

Can you try to remove the server settings and put them in again. (This worked for me once, but it was in beta 2. Now running Beta 3 so I cannot imitate your scenario to validate it as a fellow user. )

• ANN: MEI Portico Version 2.0 for Adobe Digital Publishing Suite Now Available

Jenkintown, PA (November 28, 2012) — Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) today announced MEI Portico™ version 2.0, the latest in the premier Adobe® development partner's lineup of solutions for publishers. The new version of MEI's custom storefront software for tablets was built to empower Adobe Digital Publishing Suite™ customers and is now available for purchase.
MEI Portico lets publishers create custom branded UIs for their mobile and tablet apps on Apple, Google Android, and Amazon Kindle Fire platforms. Custom storefronts enable multiple gateways for showcasing user-targeted tablet content within the app. App administrators can enable search capabilities and organize their DPS folios as they see fit, so that navigation is easy and readers can effortlessly find the issues they want or are entitled to. Portico allows publishers to override in-app purchases for authenticated subscribers, and enables restricted distribution capabilities for corporate and educational institutions using Adobe DPS as part of their digital communications strategy.
MEI Portico 2.0 introduces custom canvases to the original Portico toolbox. Rather than having to rely on templates for their storefront’s landing view, designers can now create their own HTML designs to incorporate into an MEI Portico-driven interface. Using web design skills, designers have full control over every aspect of their app’s look and feel — from storefront layout to images, login pages to RSS or social media feeds, subscriber views to featured folios. And because administrators can launch canvases at a moment’s notice, implementing new features into your app can be completed without a time consuming app update.
"Custom canvases mean that DPS apps can take advantage of Portico’s robust feature set without compromising their brand’s look and feel," said Brett Kizner, MEI's director of new product marketing. "Portico 2.0 has delivered greater flexibility with the ability for our customers to design their own app experience on their app landing page."

What's the licensing model?
There are three license choices for developers interested in creating applications using Project Looking Glass.
For developers who are interested in reviewing, revising, and redistributing the source code as part of their own application, Project Looking Glass has been submitted as an Open Source project on java.net under the GNU Public License, or GPL.
For developers who are interested in developing an application on top of the existing Project Looking Glass platform without reviewing and/or altering the code base, there is a binary version of the current state of the project available for download under a traditional Binary Code License. This is also available on java.net.
Finally, for developers or organizations interested in other uses or revising the source code but wish to keep their implementation and related application proprietary, please contact Sun at [email protected].

• New version of the LabHSM Toolkit for Complex Event-Driven Development is Now Available!

A new version of the unique toolkit is now available for download. As announced earlier, LabHSM makes it possible to easily create and then maintain complex event-driven applications in LabVIEW as a collection of HSM-driven active object VIs using a higher level of abstraction and agile software development methodologies. These active object VIs are created based on a universal Hierarchical State Machine ( HSM or statechart ) template. Therefore, all your code looks similar regardless of its functionality!
So, what’s new in version 1.1?
• "No hands" block diagram modifications! Version 1.1 actually creates, renames, and removes actions on the block diagram as you define, rename, and remove them in the editor! (No, it can't fill in all the details for you, but it can do some, if you think ahead, by replicating similar actions.)
• Two new screens, Events Usage and Actions Usage, (available in licensed copies only) clearly show where (in which state(s)/transition(s)) and how (is it an entry action, exit action or event handling action?) a particular event or action is used. Moreover, if after selecting an instance on the list, the Go To button is pressed, it makes the main screen jump to respective location in the HSM structure. In the case of Actions Usage screen, the respective action is also displayed on the block diagram. Thus, these screens provide two more different cross-sections of the HSM data set and two additional ways to navigate it – now along the Actions and Events dimensions too instead of just the state tree in the first version.
• Version 1.1 can duplicate events or actions, which helps when you've got several that are similar. Changes in the events and actions lists are reflected immediately on the main screen and on the block diagram (which solves the previous problem of deleting a renamed event or action when it's still in use).
• The Events and Actions List Editors are no longer modal and neither are the Events and Actions Usage screens, so you can have all the panels and the block diagram visible and move freely among them as you build your HSM (a good argument for an even larger monitor).
• When you save an HSM file, version 1.1 automatically adds the .hsm extension if you leave it out and it remembers the last directory you used.
• The Loaded VIs utility now can open and close block diagrams (if they are not protected with a password) and display only VIs with modal front panels, if desired—useful for quickly finding and closing accidentally opened (e.g., from the hierarchy window) modal VIs. Make a modal version of this utility and keep it on the Desktop for this purpose.
• A new example of a simple hierarchical state machine and two more excellent tutorials from Paul F. Sullivan (SULLutions.com) are included into the package. The tutorials are also available online. The overview article has also been extended.
As before, the LabHSM toolkit is available for UNLIMITED PERIOD trial. Please visit http://www.labhsm.com for details and download. The site also contains references which you may want to check to learn more about hierarchical state machines and active object computing.

I am not really sure if Azure support this but its worth to make your configuration file to support .NET 4.0
$PShome\PowerShell_ISE.CONFIG and $PSHOME\PowerShell.exe.config will be not existing.
So you can make an entry in configuration to support .NET framework 4.0
like shown below
$config_text = @"
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0.30319"/>
<supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>
</startup>
</configuration>
$config_text| Out-File $pshome\powershell.exe.config
$config_text| Out-File $pshome\powershell_ise.exe.config
Close PowerShell Console and open as administrator.
Try loading the modules back and let me know.
