ColdFusion hosted on BC

Client has old site build with ColdFusion.
Can I import this site into BC server?
Can I build a new site in Dreamweaver using the old files for content?

Hi Will,
Have you not asked this question before in regards to PHP a little while ago?
Like with PHP or any server side coding - You can not install this on BC. IT is a SAAS - Software as as service and a closed system. You can not access the server side code.
It is also a .NET based system setup and server so other sources like PHP and Coldfusion will not run under this environment anyway.
In terms of using DW you can take the rendered pages from a ColdFusion site and certanly convert it into a BC site. I have done this before. Any extra work you need you can develop ColdFusion code that runs on your server and API's into your BC site if you need to as well.
Does that cover it for you, any other questions in regard to this?

  • ColdFusion Hosting Recommendations

    Probably covered a million times already, but with ColdFusion 9 now in beta it might be worth asking again.
    I currently host at Dataride, and have had an incredible experience for six-plus years, but they are still running ColdFusion MX 7 and cannot give me any word on when they plan to upgrade to ColdFusion 8, leaving me to assume that ColdFusion 9 will be no different. That said I'd love to find a new host.
    Before I sit and compare those I've found in search engines, and here on adobe.com, I thought I'd ask actual users.
    Here's a little wishlist, for those who care to help:
    - I need a hosting company that offers shared ColdFusion hosting.
    - I need ColdFusion 8 installed.
    - I would like a host who is known for upgrading to the latest ColdFusion release as they are made available.
    - I need custom error support for .cfm files.
    - I need a Microsoft SQL Server database.
    - I need a host that only disables the most dangerous of ColdFusion tags (ie. CFREGISTRY, CFEXECUTE).
    I've been looking at hostmysite.com, does anyone have a horror story or even praises they wish to share?

    I have been using host my site for a while now.  They have been a good company to work with all in all.  I started with them because they offered free CF8 Beta accounts when it was in Beta.  I chatted them the other day to see if they were going to be doing the same with CF9.  They informed me that they did not have plans to do so at this time but were testing CF9 so things could always change.  Hopefully they will make the switch as soon as possible once CF9 is released.
    Most of my work has been with Flex applications using a CF backend.  I have not as of yet had any problems with HMS in regards to their configuraitons causing an issue with my code or not being able to use a function that I need.  I do not however use a great majority of the functionality CF8 has to offer and I only post sites there when I am testing beta code in a live environment.  So I am not so sure my situation would be a good one for one example of what you need.  Even still as Hosting partners go I have not been dissapointed.

  • ColdFusion Hosting

    If i use coldfusion for flex to read/write [communicate] with
    a MySQL database,
    will be able to just upload to a normal webspace that also
    supports SQL?
    OR does coldfusion require special hosting? [also if so how
    is this a good solution ? requiring an extra type of hosting for
    just a cfm file when all it is is an unwanted medium between flex
    and mysql]
    thanks

    Flex is just another way to write flash apps and flash
    doesn't talk to databases. You need something else to do that for
    you. Cold Fusion is one option that's available, but not the only
    one.

  • Coldfusion hosting in the UK

    Hi,
    Having had about six months of grief from the staff at
    Hostway, we are looking to change hosts. I was wondering if anyone
    could recommend some good CF hosts? We're currently running on CFMX
    7, but Im open to changing to CF 8 if we find a good host .
    Thanks in advance!

    I happily use Godaddy for my personal, vanity web site. But I
    understand and accept their limitations. They are
    inexpensive, but the
    customer service is
    NOT ColdFusion savvy and one is probably on
    ones own.
    For my professional site, I use CFdynamics and have been very
    happy with
    their service and support for some five years now. Even if
    they are a
    bit more expensive then some out there. Our site is fairly
    self
    sufficient and I have only needed to contact them a few times
    over the
    years.

  • ADDT Supported Coldfusion Hosting

    ADDT system requirements state that cfexecute is required to be running on the server. I can't find any ISP's that offer cfexecute for 'security' reasons.
    Can anyone tell me what features in ADDT utilize cfexecute? ...and can anyone recommend a good Coldfusion ISP to run ADDT enhanced web sites?
    Thanks...

    Since it appears that I can't get an answer to my original question here, I turned off cfexecute on my server and began coding without it.
    With cfexecute turned off, I've created pages with user login, user registration, data base insert, delete, update, session variables, and export as xml. They all worked fine from what I can see. I haven't tried file or image uploads yet, however.

  • UK/Europe ColdFusion Hosting?

    Hi all,
    A different slant on the common "can you recommend a CF
    hosting company" question.
    I'm looking for a good hosting company offering CF8 (MX7 at a
    pinch) shared hosting and reseller accounts, preferably offering
    white label support on the reseller account. I don't mind paying
    for reliability and good service. Here's the rub: european data
    protection laws require that all personal data must be held on
    servers based in the EU or in a country with comparable data
    protection (currently approved countries are Switzerland (surprise,
    surprise), Canada, Guernsey and Argentina).
    US companies are only OK if they are current members of the
    Safe Harbor scheme and I've heard there are issues with UK sites
    operating under a .com domain being hosted in the states, they rank
    really badly in UK Google searches.
    So far I have the following list of hosting providers to
    check out, in no particular order:
    Openmind Hosting (UK)
    FlintHosts (UK)
    CFMX Hosting (UK)
    Yeti Host (UK or Canada)
    Crystaltech (US)
    HostmySite are not members of Safe Harbor so they're out.
    I've also been *all* through Ben Fortas list wihtout luck, the list
    is very out of date where Europe is concerned - no reflection on
    Ben whatsoever because hosting companies are responsible for
    maintaining their own entries.
    Can anyone please recommend others which I should check out?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Hydrowizard
    Thank for the reply. I'd love to be able to look at Australia
    - the home of FarCry - , there seems to be much more choice than in
    the UK and the rest of Europe. Unfortunately I can't consider Oz
    based hosting for any sites which store personal data - no client
    mailing lists, project management, ecommerce (with user accounts),
    etc. This is because the EU does not recognize Australia as having
    sufficiently strong personal data protection and privacy laws.
    I'm one of the (rare) Brits who are generally pro Europe but
    for this situation I suspect it's a case of nightmare bureaucracy
    from the EU rather than any inherent weakness in Oz law...

  • Web Hosting for Flash/ColdFusion/MySQL

    I am new to Flash and interesting in creating simple
    forms/guestbooks using flash. My web hosting service supports most
    php & mysql technology. Most of the tutorial I see on the the
    macromedia site refer to coldfusion.
    Can anyone provide tips or articles relating
    Flash/ColdFusion/MySQL on web hosts that do not support Access
    & SQL server?
    Can anyone recommed a host that supports
    Flash/ColdFusion/MySQL

    The host I use most often is CrystalTech.
    http://www.crystaltech.com
    They have ColdFusion hosting with MySQL, Flash. They are
    reasonably priced and have very good customer service. (very
    important in my opinion...)

  • Impossible to run ORM application in hosted environments.

    I just bought a fancy ColdFusion 9 hosting package from Hostek.
    As most hosting providers, I assume, you don't get a dedicated server of course. Many hosting
    companies are also using a web-based control panel for the domain. For example, Helm.
    When you set up a ColdFusion DSN (or ODBC DSN), there's a warning that if you insert your SQL username and password, anyone can potentially access your DSN without a password. Yup, sounds logical. All they have to do is know the database name on the server they share.
    No problem with cfquery. You can specify username and password.
    With ORM, you can't. This makes me ditch all my current ORM plans and switch my application development back to old cfqueries.You cannot even define username and password in hibernate configuration files, since ColdFusion overrides the connection pool parameters.
    Great... just great...  am I wrong, or did Adobe really overlook such an huge issue?

    Fernis
    Re Hostek's "The ColdFusion Sandboxing doesn't make a difference for the  DataSources.  It'd be great if it did somehow."
    What a sack of crap - CFAdmin | Security | Sandbox | Datasources - Datasource permissions for your sandbox. I work for a company in the UK who offers shared ColdFusion hosting and we only run Enterprise solely for the Sandboxing.
    A couple of months ago I wrote a Visual Basic app used by the Sales guys (we set up our sites semi-manually to allow complete customisation for the customer) which interfaced directly with the AdminAPI to create a sandbox - in doing so I set it to allow only access to CFClientStore and their own DSN if they had one.
    With a hosting company doing things properly there's no problem with storing the DSNs in the CFAdmin - as you say it's a necessity to do so for ORM. I put in a feature request for this when CF9 was in beta, but never heard anything back. I too find it extremely annoying that every time a question is asked about shared hosting Adobe's stock reply is to say that shared hosting requirements should run Multiserver mode. Minimum 400Mb of RAM and manual rolling out of WAR archives for every single site? I don't think so.

  • Having trouble with coldfusion...

    Hello,
    I posted a problem a week or so ago, I decided to just let it
    go, but I need to know what I am doing wrong.
    I'm almost 90% sure it's my hosting provider that is messing
    up my coldfusion...
    So if you have a coldfusion hosting server that works
    properly, the help would be greatly appreciated. So if you do all I
    would ask is for someone to upload a test page and an include page.
    Then either tell me if it worked or tell me the URL where you
    posted it.
    You can view the error @ www.vividcomp.com/test.cfm and I am
    pulling the includes from www.vividcomp.com/includes/inc_header.cfm
    and www.vividcomp.com/includes/inc_footer.cfm
    if you cannot get the code from there, please shoot me an
    email @ [email protected] and I will email it to you...
    Please, any help would be greatly appreciated, and this error
    has been bothering me for a few weeks now... Thank you for any
    help!!
    -Ricky
    -------EDIT-------
    here is the code from the test.cfm page, since you can't view
    it on the site...
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
    charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <title>Vivid Computers Long Island, New
    York</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <table width="72%" border="0" cellpadding="0"
    cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td colspan="2"><cfinclude
    template="/includes/inc_header.cfm"></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="78%">Info goes here </td>
    <td width="22%">something goes here.... </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td height="38" colspan="2"><cfinclude
    template="/includes/inc_footer.cfm"></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </body>

    Ask your hosting provider to give you a mapping to your site.
    It appears that your site is trying to use someone elses mapping
    looking at the path, and trying to find your include file in their
    /includes file.
    Ask them to give you a mapping called /vividcomp and point it
    to the root of your site. Then try calling your include file
    with that prefixed to it.
    One thing it could be too is that the hosting company made a
    mapping in the CF administrator called /includes, which would be
    bad since almost all sites will try to use it. In that case, try
    renaming your /includes folder to /includes_new/ and edit your code
    and see if that works; if it does, you know that is the issue.

  • ColdFusion MX 7 services

    I am getting really long response times from localhost when I
    stop the following services: ColdFusion MX 7 Application Server,
    ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Agent and ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Server. I would
    like to turn off ColdFusion services when I develop in ASP because
    I would like to free the RAM/memory used by jrun.exe. However, when
    I stop the services mentioned above, the response times for
    processing an ASP page are really long. When I start the services
    the response times are back to normal again. Does anyone know how I
    can turn off the services without it affecting the localhost
    response times? Thanks!

    Sorry but I have heard so many bad stories about GoDaddy's
    ColdFusion hosting so I won't recommend them at all to anybody.

  • Shared UK Coldfusion

    I'm looking for a Shared Coldfusion hosting in the UK, we've
    been having (lack of) support issues with Hostway and we're looking
    for an alternative. Coldfusion MX 7 or 8.
    Do anyone have an recommendations? We prefer to have some
    testimonials before I move all our sites :)
    Would prefer a UK host, so we can catch them on the phone, be
    awake at the same time etc.

    I changed all but 2 of my sites (around 15 sites in total) to
    flinthosts.
    Have not had any major issues yet, a few minor ones but they
    are usually sorted quickly.
    I moved from an unreliable hosting company in America as
    there was too much downtime.

  • Coldfusion application use

    Hello,
    I am a novice designer working on my first dynamic database
    website application. I am using the coldfusion server application
    that came with the Studio 8 software package because it is well
    documented and I don't have XP Professional. However, I am somewhat
    confused about the other technologies like ASP.NET and PHP, and
    wondering if I am painting myself into a corner by using
    coldfusion. I don't yet have a server host for the website and
    noticed that only a small number offer coldfusion hosting. I would
    appreciate if someone could offer some insight, thanks.

    Arguments of an almost religious nature break out when
    discussing the
    relative "merits" of server-side technologies. ColdFusion is
    very
    powerful and, as Massimo points out, there are many hosting
    companies
    that offer CF hosting. ColdFusion enthusiasts also tend to be
    extremely
    passionate about their choice of technology.
    However, it is still very much a minority language. The
    following
    website publishes monthly statistics of the relative demand
    for
    programming languages:
    http://www.tiobe.com/tpci.htm
    If you visit the site, you will see that Visual Basic and C#
    (both used
    in ASP.NET) are ranked 3rd and 7th respectively in
    popularity. PHP is
    ranked 5th. ColdFusion comes in at 28th.
    I wouldn't say you're painting yourself into a corner with
    CF. If it
    does what you need, then it more than serves its purpose. If
    you want to
    establish yourself as a server-side developer, though, it
    might be a
    good idea to study one of the other languages in addition.

  • Coldfusion 10 and Exchange Server 2010

    I am using Coldfusion 10 and I have been trying to connect to Exchange server 2010.
    I keep getting this error message: Unable to connect to the Exchange server using HTTP/HTTPS protocol. HTTP response code : 302
    I have asked the Coldfusion hosting service to check the cacert for the required certificates and they said that all of the certificates for the hosted exchange server were installed.
    If I use the serverVersion="2010" tag I get this error:
    Could not connect to the exchange server with the credentials.
    Exchange Server doesn't support the requested version.
    The company that is hosting my exchange server account just recently upgraded their servers to Exchange Server 2010. When they were running Exchange Server 2007 and i was using Coldfusion 8 my script worked fine.
    Any ideas why I am unable to connect to the exchange server  now.
    Below is the script that I am running.

    You might try adding the formBasedAuth option in your cfexchangeconnection.   I has similar trouble and my solution was to add the application file with "exchangeServerVersion=2010" and to track down the location of owa on my Exchange servers.
    <cfexchangeconnection

  • Image Resizing With A Catch

    So I'm running ColdFusion on GoDaddy Linux Hosting (booo, I
    know, but it's cheap and I'm a poor college student that likes to
    have lots of domains).
    My old host I was using allowed me to use nifty components I
    downloaded to resize images, but had some MAJOR problems with their
    coldfusion server, so I dropped them and went to GoDaddy. Only to
    find I sadly can't use the same components, because GoDaddy
    restricts cfobject and Java's CreateObject. So does anyone know of
    a way to resize images that doesn't involve objects, or decent
    coldfusion hosting for around 10$ a month?

  • Java.io.FilePermission + Flex :(

    Hi Guys,
    i have a very strange problem and hope that u can help me. J
    I am developing an Air-App using a Coldfusion (Hoster is hostek.com) Backend. The Application has a User-Login which works correctly.
    After the login the app calls the server to get a full list of all members to display them into a Datagrid…
    Problem: On my localmashine both is working great. “Online” just the login works great… Calling the “getTeam” method causes an error:
    Error Loading team: [RPC Fault faultString="access denied (java.io.FilePermission D:\home\website.com\wwwroot\projects\teamplaner\Member.cfc read)"
    I just don’t get, why login works super and the other function (is in the same cfc) isn’t working.
    Again: local both is working…
    Any ideas? L
    Greetings from germany,
    nico

    STRANGE:
    I "solved" it...
    I am using customObjects in my application and on the server. (remoteClass....) If i am parsing an Object of that type to the function on the server there are no problems.... (of course this make sense if i am calling the "login" function... there i am parsing a UserVO instance containing username/password)
    anyway...
    in the "getTeam" method there is obviously no cfargument, just a returntype. (i am calling all users, without any specific propertys)
    Now i parsed an empty instance of that "UserObject" to my Cfc.component... Voila no error and i get the results i want....
    It seems that the server just "know" the objects i am parsing... doesn't make any sense for me.
    WTF? WHY?
    greets, nico
