ColdFusion MX7 Standard and Oracle
I was reading the description for MX7 standard and comparing
it with enterprise.
Standard said the following:
Database connectivity using ODBC with a desktop
database, such as Microsoft Access, and using a Type 4
driver for SQL Server or MySQL.
Enterprise:
Includes every feature in the Standard Edition, and also
provides the following:
• Database connectivity using Type 4 drivers for
Oracle,
DB2, Sybase, and Informix
Does that mean that standard can't connect to Oracle or it
just doesn't include the drivers?
Has anybody had issues with MX7 standard and Oracle compared
with enterprise? Is there a difference?

Standard just doesn't include the drivers. If you have an
Oracle JDBC
driver from another source you can use that driver to connect
to Oracle
just fine.

I recently had a server die that was running an old old cf4.5
enterprise with oracle. I just purchased the coldfusion 8 standard
(no $ for enterprise right now) and I need to connect to the oracle
database. Is there any instructions on doing this?
please help

I do not remember of the class file is all you need? I know
when I
needed the JDBC Thin Client, I always just got it from the
download
section of Oracle's website [
http://download.oracle.com/
(free sign-up
required to get in) and|or the installation media from our
Oracle databases. -
Coldfusion MX7 Entreprise and Red Hat Enterprise 5
I have read that Coldfusion Mx 7 Entreprise is compatible
with Red Hat Enterprise 2, 3 and 4 but I don't know if it is
compatible with Red Hat Enterprise 5.
If someone knows and if someone has an example.What manuals are you looking at?
The [SRSS 4.2 product documentation|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SRSS4dot2/SRSS+Troubleshooting+Icons] documents icon 44 as: "The server is not authenticated, the client is authenticated, and the graphic/keyboard network connections are not encrypted"
It should probably indicate more clearly that this is one of a family of icons that indicate the state of a working network connection.
So judging by this icon everything seems to be OK. The icon should go away on its own soon. If it stays up, there appears to be a problem, but probably not on the DTU or network side.
Is there anything suspicious in the server status or logs? -

Go to the Oracle website and download their JDBC driver. Then
install it
in the CF server and configure your datasource using the
"Other" option
and with the information in the documentation of the driver.

Differences between standard and enterprise ??
Hello everyone,
Where could i find an exhaustive list of all the differences between Oracle 9i standard and Oracle 9i enterprise. Recently, i wanted to use a function based index but it is forbidden in Oracle 9i standard... Are there a lot of other "surprises" like this one ?This http://otn.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/pdf/o9i_family_features.pdf is a reasonably exhaustive list of the feature differences between Enterprise and Standard. I believe it is complete, but can't guarantee it.

Please see the stack trace below from FusionReactor. This just started two weeks ago, we had been running great for over three months with no issues like this. In the past we had seen this once a month or so, but never spent much time on it because it was very infrequent. Thanks in advance for your help.

The datasources depends on the type, most databases have
dedicated tools
for backups. For CF configuration I do a nightly filesystem
backup of
all files with the following extensions:
*.xml
*.properties
*.config

Adobe Community Expert for ColdFusion -
Greetings.
A few months ago we had a boss that rubber stamped everything
with a "Sure we can do that" to every technology that was asked to
be implemented. He is now gone, but as a result of his "Sure we can
do that" attitude I am now stuck supporting a system that I have
never even heard of until the past few weeks.
I had nothing to do with the rollout, implementation or
configuration of the server running Coldfusion and my support role
of the production system should be minimal. I am absolutely
responsible though for ensuring that the server is backed up
nightly and that the backups can be used to fully restore the
system in the event of disaster.
That being said, I see that there is a backup directory at
c:\MSDE\Backup with nightly backups of the SQL database. Those then
get backed up to tape by our regular nightly backup proceedure
utilizing CommVault Galaxy 6.1. However I do see in my CommVault
logs that the following files are not being backed up each night
due to "Access Denied" errors:
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\assists\00000095.wld]
Access is denied.
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\assists\00000095.wld]
Access is denied.
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000126.did]
Access is denied.
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000127.did]
Access is denied.
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000127.ddd]
Access is denied.
[C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000126.ddd]
Access is denied.
Funny thing is for these 6 files, if I right click and go to
properties, there is no security tab to view or manage permissions
on the individual files. Similar named files in the directory
backup fine and have the security tab. For example
C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000130.ddd and
C:\CFusionMX7\verity\collections\chrid\parts\00000130.did are fine.
Can anyone tell me what these files are and the impact of
them not being able to be backed up should disaster strike?
I should also note that this is running in a Windows 2003
Environment.
Thanks to anyone that can assist.sunil106 wrote:

Coldfusion 9 Standard w/Multiple Websites and Rackspace
Can I host multiple websites (i.e., with unique IP addresses) on 1 install of CF9 Standard?
I plan to purchase CF9 standard and install it on a Rackspace Cloud Server.
I have about 5 websites I want to port over from a shared hosting environment.
Thanks In Advance,
BlueSpoonJosh, Carl, and Adam,
Thanks for trying to answer my question.
My question boils down to this: Can I host multiple websites (i.e., each with their own unique IP addresses) on 1 install of CF9 Standard on a single Cloud Site?
According to Carl, this can be configured in IIS so I believe the technical issue is resolved. So my next issue is if this would be ok with Adobe? Would I be breaking their licensing terms by having 5 (or even 20) sites using 1 install of CF9 Standard on a single cloud site?
My question arrose b/c reading this: http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/pdfs/cf9_feature_comparison_matrix_ue.pdf . I interpreted this as multiple sites can only be done wiith CF 9 Enterprise edition.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Slighty Off Topic But Relevant:
@Josh.. Not sure if you're an Adobe employee, but my questions are valid and legitimate pre-sales questions. I'm just an individual not a large corporation. So before I plunk down $2,000 for CF9, I need to know if I can legally (and technically) host multiple websites on 1 CF9 Standard license. I'm sure Adobe can afford to hire at least 2 guys to answer questions from budding entrepreneurs and small busineses. At the very least it's good customer service. Even Cisco has a dedicated support team for small business. It's ridiculous that I can't even speak (or even email) someone at Adobe to get at least "yes" or "no" answer.
Individual developers are the lifeblood of coldfusion. If it weren't for guys like Charlie Arehart, Dan Vega, Ray Camden, Ben Nadel, etc I assure you that the CF developer community would be much smaller. Last I checked, Univeristy of Wisconsin has not posted any CF tutorials or trips and tricks.
I've been a Coldfusion fan since 2005. And I've been familiar with it since 1998 while doing contract work with the Fed. So it's like a smack in the face that I am ignored once I'm ready to take the financial risk and pay $2,000 for my own copy of their server software. Developers have other options. Ignoring the devloper base is not the way to go. And that plain sucks. Adobe has really disppointed me. They've let me down. -
Coldfusion 6.1 and MX7 on Apache
I am using debian linux. I already have coldfusion 6.1
deployed via apache-ssl 1.34. I want to have load coldfusion mx7
onto the same server so I can maintain the old site, while checking
out the new features. Is this possible?Yes, you can run both on the same server. CFMX7 installed on
a 6.1 server will realize that 6.1 is there. It will install using
different ports for JNDI, webserver and ODBC ports(on winOS). The
simplest way to do this is to install CFMX7 to use its own internal
webserver. Then your URLs would all need port 8500 or 8501 appended
to the servername or IP. CFIDE will be found under
CFusionMX7\wwwroot. That same folder is where all your templates
could be placed.
You can also create a new virtual website under IIS. If you
then run wsconfig for this one site, CFMX7 will run under the new
site directly. CFMX6.1 will continue to run under your other sites.
This assumes you are running a windows OS and webserver. It
will work under other OSs/webservers using virtuals also. It would
be helpful to know what OS and webserver your are working
from. -
Question about MX7 and Oracle 10GR2 RAC
Can someone tell me if it's possible to pass parameter names
to and oracle function in MX7. I have a function that returns a
refcursor that worked fine as a simply function now it's an
overloaded function and I need to pass different parameter names
and I cannot get it to work. Is this a problem with MX7?I did a little testing, and it looks like overloading seems
to be working (for the most part) with MX 7
except
when calling an overloaded procedure that has a refcursor OUT
parameter. My guess is that since you do not specify a CFPROCPARAM
tag for refcursor parameters, but instead use a CFPROCRESULT tag to
capture the result set, there is probably a bind problem with the
parameter. I'm getting a
[Macromedia][Oracle JDBC Driver]No more data available to
read. error when I try to call it using CFPROCRESULT tag, and a
[Macromedia][Oracle JDBC Driver]The specified SQL type is not
supported by this driver. error if I try to use a CFPROCPARAM
OUT parameter of type="CF_SQL_REFCURSOR"
If ALL of the overloaded procedures do have refcursors, and I
only change the IN parameter types, and do not change the number of
parameters, etc., then I get a
[Macromedia][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-06550: line 1,
column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to
'OVER1_SP' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement
ignored error.

I have a .cfm file which includes a .js file and then calls a
newWin() function in the javascript file, as shown below :
<script language="JavaScript1.2">
<cfinclude
template="#request.sharedJSDir#/window_operation.js">
</script>
<a
href="javascript:newWin('D','<cfoutput>#request.http#/#request.daito_dir#</cfoutput>/inde x.cfm');"><img
src="<cfoutput>#request.sharedImageDir#</cfoutput>/main_menu/logo_daito.gif"
border="0"></a>
The newWin() function i the .js file is as below :
function newWin(a,b)
var win_name=a+"_appwin";
var path_x=b;
var i=newwin.length;
win_namearray
=win_name;
newwin=window.open(path_x,win_name,"left=0,top=0,width=1050,height=650,toolbar=no,location=no,st atus=yes,menubar=yes,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes");
newwin
.focus();
This code works with ColdFusion 5.0 and now I am trying to
get this to work with ColdFusion MX7. However, it gives an error on
page as below :
Line : 1
Char: 1
Error : Object expected
Code: 0
Could anyone help me to understand this issue?idesdema wrote:

Dan was talking about converting an entire query from
ColdFusion to some
type of equivalent JavaScript variable. But your example code
did not
show this.
If you are trying to get complex variables from ColdFusion to
JavaScript
such as arrays, structures or queries. You will want to
investigate the
<cfwddx...> tag.
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
<cfwddx action="CFML2JS"
input="#myComplexVar#"
topLevelVariable="myJSvar">
</script>
But your original post did not show this.

This shows basic simple values being output into a JS
function, which my
original post demonstrated. -
Implementation of Oracle Coding Standards and Code Quality Checks
I wanted to implement a list of coding standards and code quality checks for my oracle packages,functions,views,tableetc .
for example
All variables with number datatype should start with N_ and charcter type with C_ in all my tables & views definition.
This can be identified during peer review & can be corrected, but i think this is a repeated process which i don want to burden the developers rather i wanted a tool which does all these kind of checks which can be automated.
Is there any tool which does this operation or can someone give me a little idea how can i automate these stuffs bu creating a generic oracle procedure which can run through all the tables,views and generate a error report for those which are deviating from the standards.
Thus we can reduce the manual effort spent on peer review, please suggest.
thanks in advancemaru wrote:

+"Encoding the type of a function into the name (so-called Hungarian notation) is brain damaged—the compiler knows the types anyway and can check those, and it only confuses the programmer."+
Linus Torvalds
+"No I don't recommend 'Hungarian'. I regard 'Hungarian' (embedding an abbreviated version of a type in a variable name) a technique that can be useful in untyped languages, but is completely unsuitable for a language that supports generic programming and object-oriented programming—both of which emphasize selection of operations based on the type an arguments (known to the language or to the run-time support). In this case, 'building the type of an object into names' simply complicates and minimizes abstraction."+

2) Conditional Statements
IF (x = 1) --> Wrong
IF ((x = 1) AND (y = 2)) --> wrong
IF x = 1 AND y = 2 --> RightIdiotic rules. The simple rule should be readability of code. Not how many brackets to use, and when not to use brackets. Minute standards like detracts from designing and writing proper code, fast and efficiently.
There are many more rules (which is specific to ur application) which can be incorporated in the tool, there by giving consistency ,readability and easy to maintain for the developers.Bull. The more rules there are, the more difficult it becomes for programmers to write code. As it is no longer about writing readable and flexible and performing code - it is about double checking every single statement line against a huge list of rules about do's and dont's. It is not about getting the programmer focusing on solving the problem - it is about distracting the programmer with a complex and large rule list of how the code should look like.
Sorry - but this rubs me the wrong way. In that environment, I would be the first to tell you to shove your "+many more rules+".
I've developed systems in over a dozen languages over the years. I've seen all kinds of standards. The standards that work are those that are short, simple and sensible. Hungarian notation is not sensible. Writing reserved words in uppercase is not sensible. Dictating how brackets should be used is not sensible.
What is sensible is using the de facto naming standards in use today - as per .Net Guidelines for Names (MSDN) and Code Conventions for the Java Programming Language.
What is sensible is providing guidelines like bulk collection needs to be justified (not possible using SQL only) and use the limit clause to manage memory spend on the collection variable. Or how packages need to be used to modularise code, providing a public interface and private implementation.
Standards are about creating a sensible and easy-to-use framework for writing code. It is not about creating a list of a 1001 rules that a developer needs to remember and adhere to, as if the developer is now part of some weird religious sect that has rules for every single aspect of human behaviour. -
Crystal Report and Oracle SDO_GEOMETRY
Hi,
<br />
<br />
I'm using Crystal Reports for Eclipse version 2.0.4.r825 with Eclipse 3.5 and Oracle 11g as database. I configured the database connection using ojdbc14.jar. Some of the tables i want to use in the report contains columns using the SDO_GEOMETRY data type and if i try to drag this table in the data tab of the report i get the following "Unexpected ValueType" error:

I tried the same with the Crystal Reports 2008 trial version and i'm having the same problem.
<br />
<br />
I don't wanna use the geometry column in my report but because of this error i can't use the whole table. Is there a way to avoid this error and still use the other columns of the table. Or maybe there is another way to connect to an Oracle database which can handle this special data type.
<br />
<br />
Thanks in advance,
<br />

Jens KellerHi Jens,
Views would work also as you noted.
No, if DB manufacturers change/update their Servers/clients they need to follow ANSII 92 standards. If they don't return the correct data type then CR will not "hack" our drivers to fix their issues. We did that for years and was a code nightmare, when they got around to fixing the problem it broke CR again. We decided to follow the standards, it may be our issue sometimes but in this case unique data types typically are not supported by CR. If you want support and it's not a client issue then add your request to the Enhancement Request2 post.
So yes in your case it would make it easier but for others they'll be asking why CR doesn't show all fields. Same reason.... not a CR issue.
Thanks agian
