Coliapse of DSL from usual 1.5meg to 0.21mbps

On 9th july 2.0pm had usual 1.5meg DSL download been stable for 2 years rebooted hh2 no change did speedtest.net download showed 0.21mbps upload unchanged contacted call centre abroad went through usual checks they stated all okay and my telephone line ADSL could never achieve an DSL download speed of 1.5meg even though it had done so for the previous 2 years after bt ran new cable to the house and fitted the latest RJ11 filtered socket i run computer via ethernet cable to the hub ,i checked my bt account and saw that it had been marked as resolved i complained again on 18th july and awaiting a call .
I also changed my hh2 for a hh3 and it made no difference to my DSL download i have changed back to my original hh2 i have 3 neighbours close by and they are all on bt broadband we share the same telephone pole and exchange they are unaffected and running with DSL download speeds of 1.4 to 1.7 meg so i am at a loss that bt cannot get me my 1.5meg original speed that i had for the previous 2 years as of 18th july my ADSL is 576kbps and my ip profile is 1 meg.
Can anyone help.

if using a hub 4 locate these lines located in the hub logs
Lines should look like this

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Yahoo DSL from Dell Desktop to ibook-wirless via Airport Extreme

Greetings. I have just ordered a ibook G4 to replace my Dell Dimension desktop PC running Windows XP. I am currently wired to my DSL modem (Speedstream) with SBC Yahoo DSL as my ISP. I want to do the following and need some help: 1) move my Internet settings from my Dell Desktop to my new ibook, which will become my primary machine used (would like to use my Dell for only a couple of programs that are Windows only--and then only occasionally at that); 2) once Internet settings have been set up and are working as it should, I'd like to then set up my soon to arrive Airport Exteme base station to my modem and be wireless with the full 802.11g Wi-Fi capabilities. Anyone who may have experience with similar tasks that may be able to assist me? I can't wait for my machine to arrive, and I want to make sure the setup frustration, esp. w/ the 'net set up and going wireless, is eased. Also, through from anyone who's made a similar switch from desktop using the Windows platform to a 12" ibook G4 (80GB hard drive and 1GB RAM) and how that's been as their only/primary machine would be nice to hear as well? oddly enough i entered in apple.com and that worked also so i am gonna try other devices.

Reference a DSL from CDATA section in an Xml file

I use a DSL along with some XML files in an Eclipse project. I would like to reference some of the DSL entities from within a CDATA section in the XML files and provide content assist for doing so.
Would I need to define a DSL for the XML and then implement some DSL cross referencing ?
Would I lose the default XML features of Eclipse if I do so ?
Is there a way to overload the XML support built into Eclipse for implementing this ?

I don't know about the extension capabilities of the XML editor. You would need to investigate how this editor can be extended first. This might be a question for Eclipse Web Tools Platform, if you use that XML editor (there are several XML editor plugins available).

Default Workspace changed from usual My Documents area

No big deal, but why has the default workspace location (Windows platform) been changed?

Yes. Agreed. But all previous Flexbuilder releases (betas and full releases) have always had their default workspaces within the "My Documents" folder.
It just threw me a bit when I created a flex project (accepted the default project file location) and it wasn't where I thought it would be. Its usually the My Documents folder so I just wanted to know why change? Thanks

Reverse from usual problem, Calls drop 3G!!!

Hi all.
I have read reports of 3G connection causing calls to be dropped. I have the exact opposite problem.
Every time I answer or make a phone call, my phone drops from 3G down to a 2G connection so I cannot use internet while talking on the phone. The 3G connection is also extremely flakey. This is on firmware 2.1.
My first iPhone 3G did NOT have this problem, but it had a really sticky home button and sleep button, so I got it replaced. The new one worked fine for a few days, now is very flakey with 3G connection.
I must say, I'm very unimpressed with this phone. I don't want to have to replace the **** thing every 2 weeks for new defects each time. Apple's quality control seems to have been flushed down the toilet lately, they haven't been able to manage a good product launch in years.
Has anyone had this problem, and is there any way to fix it without restoring or replacing?
And please Apple, could you just make the 3G iPhone work like the original. I've already recommended several people buy competing phones because I can't in good faith recommend this product to anyone that I don't have a grudge against!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

How to backup while away from usual Time Machine destination?

When at home, I have Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule (and a couple of external drives that I rotate off-site).
I'd like to guard against losing any files changed while I'm away from home for some days should I lose my hard disk. One possibility is having an external HD with a full TM backup on it but this isn't appealing to me because the HD would end up being stored close to my Macbook and it's possible they could disappear togather. The volume of modified data to backup would easily fit on a USB stick or SD card that I could keep in my pocket.
Is there a way to backup only those files modified since my last backup to Time Capsule (to my SD card)? Some reading about rsync, mtmd and mtmfs didn't yield anything useful.
My current workaround is to create a smart folder in Finder of files modified after a specified date and copy these to the SD card. This doesn't preserve the directory structure.

First, understand that having one, and only one, backup isn't that much safer than having none. I can't count the number of times I've seen someone lose the internal hard drive only to discover a previously undetected problem with the one and only backup drive. It sounds too coincidental to be likely, but gut feelings in this case have little to do with reality.
So, that said, I wouldn't try to limit this secondary backup method as you stated. I would create a full secondary backup plan. Use some online service, like CrashPlan or Carbonite. Note that I don't use those (not away from home enough to warrant it), so don't take that as an endorsement of those two particular services!

Have problems staying connected since I downloaded latest version... also don't like the history drop down menu now. I use yahoo because its what came with my DSL from Verizon. Can I go back to the other version of Firefox or can this be fixed?

I can run about an hour and then it hangs up. Doesn't seem to depend on what website or program I am running. I walk away to change the laundry and come back and its hung. In the middle of a game on facebook, it hangs. Didn't have this problem with the version I used before. I have always liked Firefox and have used for a number of years. Don't want to change if it can be fixed.

You should be able to have NoSquint working properly if you use an extension to restore the Add-on toolbar.

Problem connecting to wifi from Verizon DSL router

I recently had "upgraded" to the newer Verizon Westell router (7500, I think). Well, I have setup the wireless to be able to connect a smart phone. Unfortunately, that smart phone is on AT&T (Samsung Infuse 4G). I was hoping to be cheap and use my DSL from Verizon to connect via wifi. It worked at first, prior to securing the wifi. I can connect through the wifi, but I am immediately transferred to a secure Verizon website trying to get me to "activate" my account. It will not let me go anyway, but to that site. Am I missing something? I am locked out of my wifi since I have a competitors cellular account? Any help would be great.

Simply applying security to your router will not cause the "walled garden" message your getting about activating account. Has your Verizon account ever been suspended before? If so, you will need to clear temp browsing data on your phone. Also make sure you are connecting to your network and that it didn't hop on a neighbbors unlocked network. Phones can be configured to automatically connect to an unsecured network and that customers service might be suspended. If you run into further problems please send a private message.

Deploying ear application - migrating from OC4j to Weblogic

I am trying to migrate application from OC4J to weblogic server. Apart from usual differences in descriptors, structure of EAR etc. I came across unusual error:
"both the remote home and remote component interface must be specified. Currently, only one of them is specified"
It is about deploying session bean. Usual EJB3 stateless session bean with local and remote interface, deployed without any problem on OC4J and JBoss. Of course, I know home interfaces are something to do with EJB 2.1, but this is EJB3 application and, I guess, Weblogic has full support for it. Does it? :)
Anyway, is there workaround? Or am I missing something? I don't have to tell you what problems we will be facing if I have to restructure whole application with dozens and hundreds of session beans.

OK. I just want to make sure that there are no problems with the deployment descriptors.
To pin point the problem do the following in JDeveloper:
1. Create a simple EJB 3.0 session bean
2. On that session bean create a Sample Java Client.
3. Run the Session Bean
4. Run the Client
5. If both are running fine, compare the deployment descriptors from the sample and your real application.

Noise from router on phone line

I just got my DSL from Verizon activated today, the router connects fine, and I have my DSL filters in place, but I am getting this 'snow' sort of noise on the phone line when my router is turned on.
Also, when you turn the router on when listening to the phone, you hear some beeping electronic sounds when the router is trying to connect.

What you're hearing as far as the Electronic Noises on the line is normal for many lines (like little beeping sounds), but they should only be pretty faint even on the loudest of Corded phones. That should only happen during synchronization. The additional chatter or noise you hear on the line once the modem has trained should not be present, so you may either require an additional filter on each affected phone (Some devices such as Call Switches do require them) or there may be a degraded cable somewhere presenting the higher frequency noise as a tone closer to what can be heard over the phone, or Transmit Powers could be rather high.
Some older lines in my area that have started to wear out exhibit white noise or electronic noise on the cabling just by nature. Newer cabling such as the ones I go through don't exhibit the white noise while DSL is running. if the noise is irritating and can be heard on the other end of the call as well, I'd certainly:
Check other phones
Check Filters
Try adding further filters
Analyze home wiring for any corrosion, lose connections, and dirty jacks.
Consider testing both phone and modem at your NID to see if this shows a lessened effect of what you're hearing. A line splitter will be needed for this as well as a corded phone.
Perhaps have Verizon run an MLT Test on your line to see if they can spot any highly resistive shorts through the test itself. (If found, tech gets dispatched to find it and fix it).
Consider a Home Run.
I have seen some very isolated issues where another type of DSL filter is needed, mainly on ADSL2+ lines. Might also be something to consider, getting a home run installed for your modem.

Is Verizon still selling DSL services these days?

I am in a new place that used to have slow DSL with Verizon, but it is no longer available when I try to order. I know Verizon won't deploy more FIOS and does offer expensive capped cellular Internet. Landline would be nicer beside very slow dial-up.

Wondering this myself? Just tried moving my DSL from one line to another in my home and the woman told me that since my local Verizon office wasn't offering new DSL in the area that the system wouldn't let her transfer the service from one line to another in the SAME house.

Cannot use DSL for wireless & phone simultaneously with Airport Express

Hello, I've just moved and switched to DSL from cable modem.
SBC DSL
One phone jack with the supplied filter on it allowing connection to the phone and supplied wired router
They provided a CD that configured the connection for me. In their ethernet connection it is not PPOE. Just DHCP. When I connect the laptop directly to the router via ethernet, I am able to surf and talk on the phone. When i connect the router to the Airport express and connect wirelessly, I can use either the phone or the internet. When I make a phone call the wireless drops.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?

It's a 2.4 GHz phone
This is likely your problem.
2.4GHz phones are notorious for interfering with WiFi networks, as they share the same frequency range.
This is a very common problem.
I would suggest switching to a 900Mhz, or a 5.8GHz cordless phone.
