Collaborating on the same file / project?

Can you suggest the best way to work with a colleague on the same Fireworks file or in the same project? For example, two of us would like to be able to edit a document, sometimes one after another, and sometimes simultaneously. We could break a project up into multiple parts - ie I design one section, my colleague works on another. But we would like to use the same symbol library and keep elements up to date. And ultimately be able to output the project together as one PDF or prototype.
What's the suggested workflow for this? We would like to avoid using Adobe Bridge as it's awfully buggy. But I assume there are ways of breaking up a file, but sharing common libraries. Or copying and pasting a symbol from one document to another allows you to update all instances of the old symbol with a new symbol.
Any other best practices to consider here? Thanks.

If you are working with Dreamweaver as well as Fireworks, there is feature that enables a team to check files in and out to keep track of updates. If you look at the top right of the document window in FW, you'll see an up and down arrow icon. This icon is called the File Transfer icon.  You can use it if your document resides in a Dreamweaver site folder and the site has access to a remote server. For Fireworks to recognize the folder as a site, use the Manage Site dialog box in Dreamweaver to define the target folder (or a containing folder) as a site's local root folder.
Note: Before using check-in and check-out options in Fireworks, select the Enable File Check In And Check Out option for the Dreamweaver site in which the document resides.
Get - Copies the remote version of the file to the local site, overwriting the local file with the remote copy.
Check Out - Checks the file out, overwriting the local file with the remote copy.
Put - Copies the local version of the file to the remote site, overwriting the remote file with the local copy.
Check In - Checks the local file in, overwriting the remote file with the local copy.
Undo Check Out - Undoes Check Out of the local file and checks it in, overwriting the local file with the remote copy.

  • How can I save images and text data to the same file?

I have been looking at ways to do this for a while. My main VI saves the raw data to a text file which the users then import to Excel and plot. I am trying to simplify this process and have been looking at ways to accomplish this task. I want to be able to save the raw data to a file and then save the Labview graph as well. This will eliminate the tedious task of importing the raw data into Excel and plotting it. I can save the raw data to its own file and I can use the Get Image method for the graph and save it to its own file. I am currently using the .png format. Is there a way of saving both to the same file ie, importing the image into Excel or Word etc. Before I go off doing a science project I wanted to see if anyone else had experience completing this task and had any recommendations. Thanks in advance for any help.

well ther are a couple of ways. You could use the standard report generation VI's and make a complete report with the image of the graph embedded into the report with the raw data or you could use activeX and control excel thru LV and put the raw data into excel directly and have excel graph the data without any user interaction. I have posted a slew of VI's on the excel board if you do not have the report generation toolkit. If you could tell me which way you want to go I could possibly send you an example.
For more information and some sample VI's and tool kits, you can go to the excel board

  • How to connect two iMacs to the same FCE project?

    Hello All,
Right now I have an iMac that is about 1 year old. I'm about to purchase another iMac. What I want to do is run FCE on both and work on the same video project on both. Is this possible?
So the idea would be that I one person A could color correct and person B could edit and perform other functions on the second iMac. Can you hook them up by firewire and do this or is this beyond what you can do with FCE and two iMacs?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

    Hello Michael,
First, you will need two fully licensed copies of FCE, one for each iMac. Each license allows you to install FCE on 1 Apple desktop + 1 Apple laptop as long as you own both computers and do not use FCE on both at the same time. But it *does not* allow you to install it on 2 Apple desktop computers (eg iMacs).
Second, in order for two people on different computers to access the same project, you would have to store all the media & scratch files in a common location, and set up each copy of FCE to access the files from that location. The problems with this approach are 1) FCE cannot do this over a network, 2) you cannot connect an external FW drive to both computers at the same time, 3) FCE prefers that your FCE Project file(s) be on your system HD.
You could use an external FW drive to store your media & scratch files; then connect the FW drive to the computer that is going to work on the project - but not to 2 computers at the same time. You will still have to copy the FCE project file between the two iMacs each time you swap from one to the other for editing.

Move the "File Dialog" where you open your new file out of the while loop. Only pass the refnum inside the loop.

  • How do you send more than 1 iMovie project to the same iDVD project???

I have 3 separate movie projects in iMovie with chapter markers and am trying to send them over to ONE iDVD project. Every time I send a movie over, it creates a new iDVD project and I can't get all 3 movies in the same project.
I'm trying to put each movies as a submenu under the main menu in iDVD.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Thanks for the help Karsten...
OK, after a long night of trial and error, I've figured it out...
Issue 1: Files not showing up in the media pane--- miraculously after shutting down all open apps and then restarting the computer, my iMovie projects are now showing up in the movie pane of the media panel in iDVD...
Issue 2: Getting more than one movie project into iDVD with all the chapter settings--- a little more complicated!
In iMovie: SHARE > iDVD gives you a new iDVD project with 2 submenus: 1 with the entire movie, and 1 with "scene selections"
If you try to add a second iMovie project to the same iDVD project; it's not possible from within iMovie (at least not that I can figure out!).
You can add this second iMovie project to the same iDVD project by adding it to the project within iDVD from the MEDIA > MOVIES pane. This, however, will only add the movie and not give you the second submenu with scene selections.
To get the 2nd iMovie project into iDVD, I dragged the 2nd movie project from a finder window into the opened iDVD project. This adds the 2 submenus (1 with the movie and 1 with the scene selections) to the iDVD project.
Hope this is useful to someone else, too.
    Thanks!

  • Labeling segments of the same file

I have dozens of short segments (a few seconds to a few minutes in length) in my timeline, all from the same file, which is several hours long and named, say, 20110301. In the timeline each of these dozens of segments is given that same name. Is there a way to label the individual segments so I can tell which is which when I'm shifting them around in the timeline?
(My workflow thus far is to import the original file into my project, scan through it in the viewer, mark in and out points for a "keeper" bit, hit F10 to dump it into the timeline, then try really hard to remember which is which. Lather, rinse, repeat. )
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Just an update...
Making the clips independent didn't seem to do anything, other than to gray out that option in the ctrl+click menu. I think for the original purpose of this thread, labeling segments of the same file, it works as well as subclipping, so both of those answers were helpful, thank you.
My second challenge (later in thread) of saving just the individual subclips or independent clips and deleting the original file remains unsolved. Media Managing it doesn't seem to be the way to go, as it claims that 45 minutes of footage is 56.5GB in space when the entire original 3 hour file is 60GB.
Because space saving has now reached a critical point for me, I'm exporting the subclips as a QuickTime movie with the current settings so I can delete the original file and try subclipping the export and saving the individual files later... hopefully my export won't be 56GB!!
Thanks again for all your suggestions, I'm learning a lot.

  • Problem with SQL*Loader and different date formats in the same file

DB: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    System: AIX 5.3.0.0
    Hello,
I'm using SQL*Loader to import semi-colon separated values into a table. The files are delivered to us by a data provider who concatenates data from different sources and this results in us having different date formats within the same file. For example:
    ...;2010-12-31;22/11/1932;...
I load this data using the following lines in the control file:
    EXECUTIONDATE1     TIMESTAMP     NULLIF EXECUTIONDATE1=BLANKS     "TO_DATE(:EXECUTIONDATE1, 'YYYY-MM-DD')",
    DELDOB          TIMESTAMP     NULLIF DELDOB=BLANKS          "TO_DATE(:DELDOB, 'DD/MM/YYYY')",
    The relevant NLS parameters:
    NLS_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT=DD/MM/RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
If I load this file as is the values loaded into the table are 31 dec 2010 and 22 nov *2032*, aven though the years are on 4 digits. If I change the NLS_DATE_FORMAT to DD/MM/YYYY then the second date value will be loaded correctly, but the first value will be loaded as 31 dec *2020* !!
How can I get both date values to load correctly?
    Thanks!
    Sylvain

This is very strange, after running a few tests I realized that if the year is 19XX then it will get loaded as 2019, and if it is 20XX then it will be 2020. I'm guessing it may have something to do with certain env variables that aren't set up properly because I'm fairly sure my SQL*Loader control file is correct... I'll run more tests :-(

  • How do I stop more than one user opening the same file?

I'm about to install Lion Server and we're concerned that more than one person will be able to open the same file at the same time. Can this be prevented? If not it seems to make the concept of a server pointless?
Any help appreciated. Already annoyed I have to phone and order 10.7 Server as it's no longer on the App Store. Can't run 10.8 as the Mac Pro is too old and Apple have cut us off.

The file server software supports file locking, but multiple file access is application-dependent. In some cases it's entirely valid for multiple users to access the same file. It's up to the application to allow or deny this.
Ordinarily, if an application requires exclusive access it should flag the file accordingly when it opens the file. This will prevent other users from opening the file. However, it's not up to the server to do this.

  • Multiple images of the same file on one page

How do I create multiple images of the same file on one page? For example, I've got an image that I could fit 6 of on one page, and would like to print it that way instead of printing it on 6 individual pieces of paper.

Are you attempting to do this in Adobe Workspaces? Or are you looking for software that will do it?
If the former, you could insert the image into a Buzzword document six times. Not exactly elegant, but it might do the trick.

  • How to read the data file and write into the same file without a temp table

    Hi,
I have a requirement as below:
We are running lockbox process for several business, but for a few businesses we have requirement where in we receive a flat file in different format other than how the transmission format is defined.
This is a 10.7 to 11.10 migration. In 10.7 the users are using a custom table into which they are first loading the raw data and writing a pl/sql validation on that and loading it into a new flat file and then running the lockbox process.
But in 11.10 we want to restrict using temp table how can we achieve this.
Can we read the file first and then do validations accordingly and then write to the same file and process the lockbox.
    Any inputs are highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Lakshmi Kalyan Vara Prasad.

    Hello Gurus,
Let me tell you about my requirement clearly with an example.
    Problem:
i am receiving a dat file from bank in below format
    105A371273020563007 07030415509174REF3178503 001367423860020015E129045
in this detail 1 record starting from 38th character to next 15 characters is merchant reference number
REF3178503 --- REF denotes it as Sales Order
ACC denotes it as Customer No
INV denotes it as Transaction Number
based on this 15 characters......my validation comes.
If i see REF i need to pick that complete record and then fill that record with the SO details as per my system and then submit the file for lockbox processing.
In 10.7 they created a temporary table into which they are loading the data using a control file....once the data is loaded into the temporary table then they are doing a validation and updating the record exactly as required and then creating one another file and then submitting the file for lockbox processing.
Where as in 11.10 they want to bypass these temporary tables and writing it into a different file.
Can this be handled by writing a pl/sql procedure ??
    My findings:
May be i am wrong.......but i think .......if we first get the data into ar_payments_interface_all table and then do the validations and then complete the lockbox process may help.
Any suggestions from Oracle GURUS is highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Lakshmi Kalyan Vara Prasad.

  • Two users opened the same file at the same time with file on Win2K Server

I just had a problem with a file that could not be saved. After a little investigation I discovered that two users had the same file open at the same time. This is with both users using InDesign CS2 and saving to a Windows 2000 Server. Any ideas how this even happened? The only thing I can think of is if they both opened the file at the exact same time but even that I doubt. I guess the more likely possibility is that the user on 10.5 (which we have had a lot of problems with, it's hard to tell how many of them are CS3 problems (yes CS3) and how many are Windows 2003 Server problems) had InDesign CS2 flake out and not tell her the file was open. Has anybody else seen this? The other user was using 10.4. Both computers have the most recent updates for the OS and for their various adobe products.

I have videos on mov file and my quick time player does not play them.
The MOV file container is the generic QT file container. Any audio and video data compatible with the computer system used to create the file can be placed in the MOV file container. Unfortunate, other systems cannot play the file unless they too are configured with the same components as those used to create the file. The normal procedure here is to use the Finder "Info" or alternative media play "Inspector" window to determine what codecs were used to create the original file and, if they are available for your Mac, install them on your system for playback use. Also be advised that some "legacy" codecs may require playback in the QT 7 Player for proper QT support.
I opened with other players, there is no sound. Then I opened the same file on my windows 7, it plays perfectly with the sound and everything? What is the problem?
This would indicate these players either access your QT codec component configuration which does not include the required codec or the app has its own built-in codec support which does not include the required audio codec but you Windows 7 media player is configured with the required codec support. This may incidate the use of a really old codecs that may or may not be available/supported on a Mac any longer.

  • Multiple developers working on the same application/project

    Hi All,
We have multiple developers working differnt components of the same application/project. As most of them are working on their local systems within their local projects which later has to be integrated as one application project I am afraid the integration would be a big challenge.
Can someone suggest a way this can achieved without much additional effort and code/ functionality loss.
    Best regards,

    Hi Divya,
I this can be accomplished by using JDI.This helps in easy integration ,version and change management.

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version

It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.
