Collaboration and Sharing PDF's

Is there a way to "Share" a PDF so that if I am in a document making edits and a colleague is in the same document over our work network making edits, we can both do this at the same time with the document open simultaneously without losing our work, or having one of us having to close out (and thus losing our edits) so that the other can save?
Having one of us "Save as" a new document name should not be an option, as this problem has occurred everyday.

I understand this might seem to be the answer, however we all have access to PDF's over our network, so I shouldn't have to "Send" the shared review. I am looking for a way to make edits to a PDF simultaneously from different computers, and both be able to save updated work while the document is open on the other computer as well...is this possible?

  • Collaboration and Sharing

    Hello,
I recently purchased 2 licenses for Adobe Cloud and was wondering if it is possible to share the online storage space so we can access the same files?
    Thanks!

    Hi Ian,
This is not currently possible but is something we are hoping to have available with Creative Cloud Team once available later this year.

But remember it is always up to the customer to insure what they are getting and what it costs. Don't trust the word of a sales person who makes their living on getting that sale. Lies, deceit or false promises will be and have been used by sales people for thousands of years.

  • Commenting on Shared PDF

Is it possible for people to comment on a shared PDF the way they can on a shared InDesign file? I've uploaded PDFs to my workspaces but I don't see any way to comment on them.
I saw a message somewhere on the Adobe support forum that said that people cannot edit PDFs online. I don't want to edit the PDF online; I just want them to be able to add notes to the PDF proxy that they see on Acrobat.com.
I have a PDF that a client sent me. I tried placing it into an Indesign CS5 file and posting that, but I couldn't add the file to a review. Why not?

At this time the Adobe Reader and Acrobat software is the intended and designed software for commenting on PDF files as part of the review process.
That merely makes Acobat.com a nice front end for viewing PDF files, not actually doing any collaborating with them. You should have called it buzzword.com instead.

  • Error opening shared PDF

I share PDF files through a secure web application and sporadically encounter this error message when attempting to open/download the shared PDF:
I'm the owner of the original files and can open those with no problem.  It's only when I save the file to the web application and then try to download the file from the web app that I encounter this error.  Can someone please tell me why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks Pat.  Unfortunately, I don't have an opportunity to compare the files.  Once the file has been uploaded to the web app and its available for download, I hit the error before I have a chance to do any comparison.  Do you think the problems lies within the web app itself, for instance, how it uploads files?

  • Problem sharing pdf insertions from PC Windows 7 to mac

Hello, I've been working on editing a document a client is sharing with me via dropbox. She uses a Mac; I have a PC with Windows 7. I've entered a number of edits--insertions, comments, deletions. Now, when she opens the dropbox document, the locations where the insertions are are still marked in blue, but the inserted text has disappeared. The yellow comments are still viewable. Now when I open the document, I can't see my own insertions any more either. (I have a backup, thank goodness.) Any idea how to get a file to her such that she can see the inserted text? (And to keep inserted text from disappearing if I open the document after she has?)

If she's using "Preview" on the Mac to open it. It will most likely be "broken" when saving after edits. Preview does that with forms and fillable PDFs.

  • Collaborating and commenting via the "Cloud"

We are looking for a cloud-based service to markup/comment on the proof of our monthly magazine. I thought Acrobat XI Pro might be a solution, but it doesn't seem to work that way. But maybe I'm not using it correctly and someone can tell me where I went wrong.
First, I had to download and install a copy of Acrobat XI Pro. We have about 8 members on our team - will everyone have to purchase and install the software?
Then I uploaded a file (about 30MB) to Adobe.com and opened it via Acrobat XI Pro. That went fine, as did the commenting using Acrobat's tools. But when I went to save the document (with comments) the save took a long time -- a good 8 minutes. I have a reasonably decent Internet connection.
I'm also wondering if the team members will be able to collaborate simultaneously, or if we will have to schedule separate times to comment on the document?

Did you save to the Creative Cloud or to Acrobat.com. You can also use a local server which might be faster. You re-saved the file over the internet rather submitting reviewer comments which would be much faster. If you use a shared review then people can comment simultaneously. I will let someone who uses the collaboration and reviewing features to answer other questions.

  • Is there an app that allows you to download and read pdf files on your ipod touch?

Is there an app that allows you to download and read pdf file on your ipod touch (5G)?

There are many apps that allow reading PDFs. GoodReader allows downloading some items. It all depends upon how the site handles the download. It also uses file sharing in iTunes.
iBooks also reads and had file sharing.

  • Collaborative code sharing (PS Scripting & GitHub)

    Hi,
I’d like to invite you fellow developers - ExtendScript, Flex/HTML Panels, Generator - to read this Open Letter about the PS Devs Community’s health, prospects and a project proposal for collaborative code sharing through the GitHub opensource platform.
Actually the (humble) secret agenda is to help the community focus on better ways to collect and share its own accumulated knowledge, and possibly grow some extra influence towards Adobe: that we need, in my opinion.
Any comment, suggestion and feedback (on the original website, please) is *really* appreciated.
    Thank you for your time!

I disagree. I want to believe it. But facts are not arguments for discussion. Facts are facts. So I want to make you a proposal.
Only words are not enough and we have not sufficient feed-back from Adobe about our inner projects that will help improve Adobe development.
I am formally inviting you (or any Adobe official 'dev' representative - not 'product manager') to come to visit us. All expenses paid.
If your inner corporate politics doesn't allow you to make direct contact with clients, think well and be aware that we have no intention on create any closed project. It must be a win-win to Adobe, to open community, so it would be also to us.
It would be like put together high-demand, big quantity content and the apps in a new open-minded way never seen before.
I think 2014 will be the year of the 'out-of-box' community thinkers but they need high demand contents. We daily produce them.
It would be the year when big companies have to put big ammount of photos and videos rapidly on web and before the others, using their own metadata to improve that system.
Its the year when finaly Canon, Adobe, and other hardware companies are forced to put on action interchage usefull and accessible content information...? Ops. OK. That could be next.

Our business model have only 3 days in touch with each physical fashion product to shoot it, film it, using live-model, edition, and send it back again to our partners store.
We do this over more then 1000 products a day, with 5 to 8 images in each product, using multiple studios and a team of more then 150 people. Stylists, live-models, costumer service, photographers, editors, marketing, account managers, proggrammers, fraud detection, etc, etc.
Our live-model system and our editors/retouchers scripts have increase productivity hugely. For photo retouching, more then 450% productivity increase in 2 years!!
That's why scripts represent much more then 'easy simple tasks for photographers' (answering to mightysprite above)
Is Adobe really interested in hearing user impact? This is my answer because I'm more into actions not words or just ideas.
It was not easy at all to make our CEO to agree. Its a deadline opportunity.
I'm willing to hear your terms and conditions.
By the way, we do represent more then 60 Adobe licenses, for the moment, and increasing.
By my concern, I promise to collaborate as much as can with any open-source code to the community. If I had more time I would do much more...
Many times wondered on having some of you scripter guys here, helping my efforts to make our central scripts system work even better.
I believe that the creation of healthy competion for Adobe apps might be the 'big positive' issue that Adobe need for itself.
If this will be not the case, that makes even more sense for our own scripters community to gather.

  • Shared PDF document review

    Hi everybody,
I'm using Acrobat X Professional and would like to try out the shared PDF document review via acrobat.com
However, when I choose "send for shared review" I cannot select "acrobat.com", I can only choose an internal server. Already checked the preferences and tried a new installation, but nothing changed.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Collaboration On Shared Code File Slow

I heard about all of the hype of collaboration, and I had a Java project that my friend and I had been working on. We both set up Java Studio Enterprise 8 on Fedora Core 5 workstations, and one of us ran the collaboration server.
After signing in and beginning a shared code file, we noticed that the code line synchronization is extremely slow, with update times in lines of 5,000 - 10,000 milliseconds. Is this normal? Is there any way to configure the server such that changes made by one user are reflected quicker to the other users? Or is it just "Java slow" and there isn't anything that can be done? I personally was expecting something a bit more realtime (e.g. 50-250 msecs) than a few thousand milliseconds.

  • Local disk access and sharing changes

I have a Mac Dual 2.3 Ghz G5 operating OS X Server 10.4.6. Among other things I use this server to run duplicates of a local internal hard drive, as well as networked client hard drives, to external Firewire backup hard drives that are local to this server.
Frequently the ownership and sharing attributes of these local external backup hard drives mysteriously change. Through Workgroup Manager, I set the disks to be shared, with certain users and groups having read/write privileges. Later, the read/write privileges mysteriously reset to "none", the owner is changed to "root", and the group is changed to "wheel." Sometimes the "share this item and its contents" box is mysteriously unchecked as well.
Manually resetting the attributes back to the desired state does not prevent the problem from recurring.
I use Retrospect 6.1.128 to automatically duplicate local and network files to these local external Firewire hard drives. I don't know if this is related to the problem or not. The backups run throughout the day.
What's going on and how can I avoid this continual reset of sharing and ownership attributes?
Thank you for any light you can shed on this frustrating problem.

Just out of Morbid Curiousity- If you get info on those Firewire drives- do they have the "ignore Permissions...." box checked.

  • Downloads to iPhone gone after sync with iTunes 9 and shared libraries

I have songs that I downloaded directly to my iPhone 3g-s. After the first time I synched the iPhone to my laptop after installing iTunes 9 and sharing songs with my desktop, songs have disappeared from my iPhone. When I search the song, the title is there but when I click the song, it says to purchase the song from iTunes. The songs are on neither of the 2 computers sharing songs. However, only some of the songs that I had downloaded directly to the iPhone from iTunes have disappeared.

I read another post here and the solution is simple: goto file and select 'Transfer Purchases from iPod". It works perfectly!

  • Is connection pooling and sharing available on Oracle 9i RDBMS ?

    Hello,
I would like to connect from oracle to sql server through db link and ODBC (Heterogenous connectivity). But every session in oracle launch session in sql server. Is it possible to have connection pooling and sharing from Oracle RDBMS level ? I need one solution : when (for example) i run 100 sessions in Oracle i would like to see 10 sessions on sql server. I would like remain 90 sessions from oracle to be queued.
I would mention that i was using Heterogenous connectivity with multithreading agent (agtctl) without success.
    appreciate any help :-)

There are two concepts you could evaluate, but they are mainly used for connections to the database, not to sqlserver, but if you can make them work with heterogeneous connectivity this could help:
Connection Pooling. When many sessions are connecting to the same database, it could be that some of them remain idle. Oracle can detect them and timed them out letting another session to enter into the database, letting the idle session remain open without closing its session. This is configured by means of the shared server architecture.
Session Multiplexing. Session multiplexing allows the same bandwidth to be used by many sessions at the same time, this enables the server to use fewer network connection endpoints for incoming request. In order for you to configure session multiplexing you have to configure connection manager.

I am getting messages that I can't download and read .pdf files since I have the wrong Adobe reader. I know about their security disasters of course, but I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and I have other ,pdf file readers as well, and for some reason they won't work either. I have 5 computers running top end processors and RAM. By this I mean I have one, this one which I am using that has an AMD Phenom Black 3.2 Quad-core with 8 GBs of Corsair top DDR2 RAM, my other two AMD have either an Athlon II triple core with 4 GBs of DDR2 Corsair RAM, one with the Phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz Quad-core with 8 GBs of their best DDR2 RAM, and two Intels with the i7 920 Processors using the triple channel 1366 socket processors and one with 8 GBs of low latency DDR3 RAM and the other with 4 GBs of the same RAM. I am getting the message on this one, which has a fresh install of XP Pro X64 operating system, as do the other 4 as well. I have run Avast Business Pro Anti-virus on this one, which I am getting the message on with a single result which I deleted, and also both Spybot Search and Destroy, which came back clean as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware, which got a lot of tracing cookies now removed, and SuperAntiSpware which also found a few cookies also now deleted. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these files to show as .pdf files rather than as a clean blank page. One other issue is that I wish to know how to turn off my downloads so they are saved and Mozilla will give me the option of returning them instead of me losing them all together as it does now. Thanks for your assistance. If there is another Adobe reader I should download and install, could you provide me with the link to it? I appreciate your assistance here
== When I download and try to read a .pdf file and when I am asked to turn off all Firefox files and if I do, I lose them since I need to know how to save them without rebooting my computer.

Brilliant! Problem solved! Thanks so much.
