Collapsed precomped layer borders in CS6 vs CC

hi.
Just noticed something about precomped layers in earlier versions.
in CS6 - when you precomp a layer and press collapse you can actually see
the borders of the layers inside, right in the master comp.
like so:
if the precomp is uncollapsed you see this:
but in CC and CC 2014 the result is the same:
either way - composition borders and not layer borders i.e collapsed and uncollapsed remains the same.
it seems that in CC the only way to reproduce this behaviour is to make both precomped layer and
the precomp itself 3d:
anyone got any information about that?

I could also click pixels in my document to select that layer, rather than holding control, that selecting the layer it thinks I want from a list.
With the Move Tool selected check "Auto-Select" in the Options Bar.
sometimes it just stops working.
That description is useless for trouble-shooting, please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):

I really don't get why we don't have a traditional Undo option?
Did you not notice Edit > Undo or what are you talking about?
Edit:
I also do not fully understand how undo is working in CC.
Undo undoes the last step, if the last step was Undo itself then that is undone, meaning the undone step is recreated.

  • Scaling a layer in photoshop CS6 and file size?

Why should scaling a layer in photoshop CS6, have an effect on the size of the file?

Out of curiosity, do you have a RAM shortage (e.g., resulting in slow system performance)?  If not, worrying about how Photoshop allocates RAM to maintain its data structures, while academically interesting (well, I find it such), probably doesn't tell us all that much that's truly useful.
If you ever want to understand more about how Photoshop works under the covers, and you're a dyed-in-the-wool geek like me, a look at the Photoshop SDK can tell you volumes.  Writing plug-in software isn't for the faint-of-heart, but it will tell you tons about how things work.  Funny thing...  I didn't used to think in rectangles...

  • Collapse effect layer, using DoCommand?

    Hi all,
I try to write a plug-in for After Effects using the 7.0r3 SDK. What I want to do is to un-hide two checkboxes in relation to internal plug-in status.
    I do that with
    AEGP_SetDynamicStreamFlag(temp_streamrefH, AEGP_DynStreamFlag_HIDDEN, FALSE, FALSE);
whereas temp_streamrefH is the UI-param to be un-hided.
If I do that on an adjustment layer (on which my effect is applied) two things occur.
    1) The parameter is shown as expected in the effect control panel. This is exactly what I want!
    2) The effect layer inside the Timeline panel is unfolded and shows there the un-hided checkboxes. This is what I don't want.
To get rid of effects from point 2 I tried to collapse the layer using
    AEGP_SetLayerFlag(effect_layerH, AEGP_LayerFlag_COLLAPSE, TRUE));
called from within Render() but this has no effect.
Another approach was to get the current collection, select only the effect layer and set the effect layer collapse flag to TRUE. Again with no result.
As I've read in other threads it is possible to operate using a command but I dont't know the value for COLLAPSE. Could one please tell me the right number or give me a hint to solve my problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks brooce.
The checkboxes are effect parameters which reside in the effect control panel (same as in Supervisor). I already checked the Supervisor code and tried both approaches, via PF_ParamDefs ui_flags and also via AEGP_DynamicStreamSuite. The Supervisor behaves same as my plug-in.
First switch to Easy mode and the get back to Hard. You'll see in the Timeline panel that the layer on which the Supervisor effect is applied is now unfolded and the Supervisor is selected.
How one can impede this expansion in the Timeline panel programmatically? Again, I think its possible to send a collapse command using DoCommand() but I'dont know the value. Please, could you tell me the appropriate collapse command number?

  • AE CC 2014 - Using a Mask on a Collapsed Precomp destroy's it's properties??

Hey all I am having a ridiculous problem.
I have a normal precomp with a layer that has a multiply blending mode.
Normally i would collapse the precomp in its parent comp, and the Multiply Blending mode would be preserved (which it is).
The problem comes when I apply a simple Mask to the precomp, or use another layer as an alpha mask.
I loose my collapsed properties on the precomp....
Anyone know why this might happen? I'm using AE CC 2014, I FEEL like I've done this maneuver a million times before, is there something new and different about CC 2014 that I didn't catch? possibly I'm just forgetting something simple.
here is what's going on in my comp:

Try this. Add an expression control slider to the layer with the following expression:
    wiggle(5, 50)
Then add this expression to your scale property:
    w = value[0] + effect("Slider Control")("Slider");
    [w, w]
The problem exists because wiggle will act on all of the values in the array of the property you have selected independently. so you have to set up something with only one value like an expression control slider.

  • Can't paint at full opacity in layer mask in CS6 64 bit windows 7

A problem has developed in my photoshop CS 6 64 bit on windows 7. I can't paint at full opacity in a layer mask. It is like an 75 % opacity brush. I have gone back to the default brushes soit is not the particular bursh. My brush settings are all at 100%, mask density is 100% , the blend mode is normal,-can't think of where else to look for the solution. The brush works just fine when I am not in a layer mask.
I updated the graphic card driver and also the wacom intuos driver. It has to be somewhere in photoshop CS6 as when I go into my older version photoshop, cs5, the mask opacity works works at 100 % opacity
Any ideas of what to do next.

I am having a similar problem that I need help with.  I just loaded CS6 for the first time ever last week and have been tinkering around with photo editing.  I am trying to use an action I downloaded to whiten the whites of the eyes and teeth.  When I run the action I cannot paint with the soft white brush.  I hit backslash and it shows no work completed, just a red background.  I have everything selected at 100% opacity (brush and action layer).
A couple days ago I was able to use the brush tool to darken the background by loading an action and paiting on.  Now I can't do that anymore.
I can use my brush for other tasks.  I am so confused.  I would greatly appreciate any insight.

  • Need help saving layer styles Photoshop CS6 Extended for Mac (Mountain Lion)

I have been trying to learn Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS6 Extended on a Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion). My Adobe software has been updated. I have been doing tutorials using a lot of layer styles. In one of these tutorials, it was suggested that if I would possibly want to use the style again that I should save it. At this point I had entered all my layer styles info and was still in the window with the list of layer styles on the left (bevel and emboss, drop shadow, etc., and the "New Style" button on the right. I clicked on the "New Style" button and when another window popped up asking me to name the style, I named it. When I looked at my styles in the styles panel, I saw the little button for the new style. I saved my graphic and closed it. Later I wanted to apply this style to text in another graphic. The style was used on text originally. When I clicked on it though the style didn't look the same. Upon investigation, a couple of setting under Bevel and Emboss had reverted to defaults. They were different numbers when I saved the style. I could go back in and change these two numbers and get the same results, but I don't understand why these numbers changed on their own -- why the style didn't completely "save." Is there something I have done wrong, or is this some kind of bug? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much for your reply! Yes, both documents were at 72 resolution. This morning I tried to save yet another style (same resolution document). It worked when I used it the first time. Then I switched to the other style I had saved. That one took some of the bevel and emboss settings from this morning's style. The numbers which will not save are the angle and altitude under the shading section. Just now I made another document (text at 72 resolution) and both styles had changed these numbers to 120 and 30. Is this something I am doing wrong? I am trying to use text of a similar font and size. I updated my software last night in the hopes that that would help. This morning I reset preferences. Don't know what to do! Thanks for helping me!

  • Actions ignoring modal control for layer renaming, Photoshop CS6

Hey, everyone! I often run actions that have modal control for certain steps turned on, in particular, when I want to give a layer a custom name. Prior to CS6, I'd run my action, the window would open allowing me to rename my layer, and then it finishes my action. However, in CS6, it seems to ignore the modal control button selected, puts in whatever the default info is and continues on. This hoses quite a few of my actions that I've been using for years. Submit a bug report?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Bruce it looks like you found yet an other bug in CS6 please report it at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_familyhttp://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family

  • How can you erase part of the black & white layer on Photoshop CS6?

I've been trying to earse part of the b&w layer to have color pop because it's easier for some floweres instead of magic lassoing. Unfortunatly my earser tool will not let me earse some of the black and white layer. What can I do to fix this issue?

Try using a Layer Mask, and paint black on the mask to cause the Black and White adjustment to become "transparent" in those areas and reveal color.
If you cause the transparency to go outside the bounds of what you want, paint white on the Layer Mask to make it apply the adjustment layer effect again.
Grayscale on the Layer Mask will cause partial transparency.
Have fun discovering the neat stuff you can do with Layer Masks.

  • Layer Comps in CS6 32bit bug

I've only seen one thread that releates to this issue with no answer resolution.  I have a reoccuring but where my layer comps display with elements moved into different positions from when I last saved the comp (all layer comps are set to save Visibility, Appaearance and Position). This seems to always happen when I re-open a document, and frankly I'm getting sick of going back and fixing photoshop documents after I save all my comps to files.  I can't imagine that this isn't a known issue or that others are not seeing the same thing.

    I cannot reproduce the issue.
Could it be you changed the bounds of the affected Layers?
Could you please post screenshots to illustrate the issue?

  • How to copy an adjustment layer mask in CS6

I want to use the same adjustment mask twice on the same image. For example I want to use the adjustment mask for curves and possibly saturation. How can I duplicate the mask but keep all effects.

You could put the Adjustment Layers into a Layer Group and use the mask for the Group. That way you'd only have to edit one mask to affect all your Adjustment Layers.

  • What's the keyboard shortcut for "Extrusion from Text Layer"? (Mac CS6)

I keep triggering this by accident and can't figure out what combo I'm hitting, or how to disable it. I've looked in the Keyboard Shortcuts but can't find it.
I'm on a laptop keyboard, so I use the fn key a lot to access enter when I'm finished editing text. Every once in a while (but often enough to be annoying), I attempt to enter out of text editing and suddenly everything stops, the gray rotating "processing" cursor appears, and for a few seconds I'm in a mild panic about how long it's been since I saved. Then a dialog box comes up asking if I want to switch to the 3D workspace or something. Clicking "no" doesn't stop the unwanted 3D thing from happening, and the last History item then says "Extrusion from Text Layer." I then Undo and go on with what I was doing.
I've always got my left hand positioned over the lower left corner of the keyboard, and move quickly when using shortcuts and switching tools. I have no idea what combination I keep hitting by accident - something with fn, ctrl, opt, cmd, shift, I don't know, plus possibly return or enter. What is it, and how do I disable it?

Trial-and-error prevails: It's fn + shift + return. (Or shift + enter on a full keyboard, I suppose? Unless that still does a soft line break like shift + return.)
But only when I'm actively editing the text layer - not with the text layer selected and Move tool active, or even with the text layer selected and Type tool active, but only when in the process of using the Type tool to edit the text layer. I still have no idea to disable it, though.

  • How do I move a whole layer in Illustrator CS6?

I've got a project where the same set of paths, all on a same layer, repeat multiple times, forming a sort of spline. Is there any way to select a whole layer, and only that layer, then move it about the canvas?

In the Layers panel click on the right side of the layer you want to select like this and all the objects on that layer will be selected. Then move as needed. Make sure it is a large stroked square not a small unstroked one.
