My experience is with the iPhone 4S and the "new" iPad, both of which I ordered early on the opening pre-order day. In both cases the wording from Apple during the media event was "pre-orders will start on ABC date for delivery on XYZ date" which was also the same day they were to go on sale in stores. In both cases, the UPS truck rolled up earlier than usual XYZ date as promised to hand me my new iPhone/iPad. In both cases there were instances of confusion due to some pre-order confirmations stating incorrectly "SCHEDULED SHIPPING DATE: XYZ". In both cases that caused much fear, panick, and trepidation that fed upon itself as it permeated a widely scattered forum linked community of "adults" that seem to collectively revert to a state of childish impatience and ultimately child-like glee as they obsessively refresh their dedicated tracking browser window; become convinced that there is no hope of escaping the dread delayed shippment, and then finally receive their new toy exactly when they were supposed to. Not that I personally would ever succumb to that of course. Er uhm ... it's just what I've seen you know .. nothing I can really relate to.

I have an iMac 8.1, OSX 10.6.8 with XP running in Boot Camp partition. My USB keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged by water. I ordered a new keyboard from the Apple Store. I was sent model MB110LL/B. Special function keys will not work in XP. Any Ideas?

I have an iMac 8.1, OSX 10.6.8, Boot Camp 3.2 running Windows XP. My original keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged by a water spill. I ordered a new one from the Apple Store. They sent me MB110LL/B, function keys need updated drivers (Boot Camp 3.3) which will only install if Windows 7 is installed. I have a large amount of older software that runs under XP but not Windows 7. The Apple support team basically said "too bad". If they replace a keboard model with a new model, they should at least make it backwards compatable or provide a Boot Camp update that will allow this model to work on older iMacs. Reloading Bootcamp 3.3 several times has no effect because it does not detect Windows 7. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.

It is free. It is beta. It works well - I use it on mine and two PCs as well...
MS Security Essentials will no longer install due to compatibiliity issues - that is the idea of a beta - and the RC could be out in June.
Windows 7 doesn't work great on any Mac, or Apple drivers, fan cvontrol to manage heat, and other issues.
Put 8 in and get to know it, then when the RC comes out you'll be ready

I ended up smashing my phone and could update all other stuff on restore but cant sync any music. It is all grey at the top of the screen. Ive re installed itunes and cleared all phone data. I'm having a similar problem. I had previously (over a year ago) purchased 2 episodes of Law & Order. Then about 2 months ago, I purchased the 3rd season of Sons of Anarchy. When I downloaded these episodes to my iPad, about a dozen full seasons of various shows popped up, too. No money was removed from my iTunes account & theses particular shows aren't in my iTunes library on my desktop. I've tried every which way to delete them from my ipad, but can't. I always delete cookies and cache on exit. I use photon and puffin to watch flash player videos on tv series site with links such as put locker. I heard that there is no virus for the iPad but Trojans do exist.

Despite the dramatic title of the article, the only mention of iOS in the body was this:

The Forbes article descibes issues with the Mac OS, of which there always have been some, though certainly far fewer than there have been on the Windows platform. It goes on to speculate :

Again, the Forbes article doesn't mention any current viruses, trojans or malware that exist which will affect an unjailbroken iOS device.

Again, even Kaspersky doesn't say such things exist now, merely that they might.
Speculation about what might happen in the future or articles focusing on the Mac OS or Android are not terribly relevant. So, if you do have any other citiations, preferably from a source that doesn't derive most of is revenue from the companies it reviews, that document a virus or trojan that affects an unjailbroken iOS device, I would be interested. I have not been able to find any. I thought, perhaps, as a professional, you might know of some.

Just got back from the Apple Store...optical drive officially dead

I just got back from the Apple Store, which confirmed what I feared all along. I received my MBP C2D over the holidays and was worried when it had trouble booting up several times. After trying to burn a few cds (some would quit, others worked fine), and a few discs that refused to read or eject I visited the boards to find out that issues with the Matshita UJ 587 were widespread. At this point my computer does not even recognize the ATA or Disc Burning hardware or the OSX disc inside. The only positive to come out of this is the customer service offered by Apple. I took the computer to the genius bar and the computer refused to boot up after the tech installed an OSX disc (hence the stuck cd inside). They are giving me a new computer since this one is brand new, but unfortunately I will have to order it from Apple Care since it is a custom job. For all of you out there with early MBP C2D optical drives that are acting up I feel your pain. Get your computer into an Apple store before the problem gets worse, these optical drives are awful.

Thank you. After 2 hours on the phone with Apple Care this morning they finally confirmed what the Mac Genius told me last night. The computer was shipped back this afternoon and I'll post again if there's any trouble with the new unit, I think I just got a lemon with this one...too bad. This is my first Mac so I'm really trying hard to stay positive.

Are there advantages to buying from the Apple Store v authorised reseller?

I am planning on buying a new Macbook Pro as an upgrade from my macbook. I bought my last 2 Apple computers from my local Apple Premium reseller and have been happy with their service but I was thinking of taking a trip up to London to the Regent Street Apple Store just to take a look. Is there any advantage to buying direct from Apple, either online or in the Store, over buying from a reseller. Is the aftersales service any better if anything goes wrong?

No big differences, overall. Warranty coverage is the same. Return policy for DOA machines may differ (Apple will give you a brand new one, resellers may try to repair it). Apple Store stock tends to be fresher than most resellers (i.e. an MBP from the Apple Store is more lkely to have Leopard pre-installed, vs. a "drop-in" upgrade DVD).

I purchased a MacBook Pro from the Apple Store in Bath, UK about 3 years ago now, and when my Hard Drive packed up i took it into the Apple Store in Cardiff, UK to get it looked at. They replaced my Hard Drive there and then; free of charge as they were able to trace my purchase back to the Apple Store despite it being out of warranty. Will it be the same if there ever was a problem if i was to buy it off of the Apple Website?

The warranty is the warranty. Your device will be backed if it's bought from the site or brick and mortar store or even an authorized third party (in other words I bought my iPad at best buy and I can still take it into an apple store and have them back the warranty)

Can't verify student cs6 design suite which I brought from the apple store

I brought the student version of creative suite 6 design standard from the apple store about a month ago and I haven't had any luck getting the serial number. Inside the box I was given a set of instructions which I follow to a 'open customer service case' I then continue to give them the order number and the eligibility proof. However I got an email back that 'they were unable to identify my order number or coupon number'. So I when back instead to find the coupon number, but there was no mention of a coupon number on my box but the product number look similar to one of the examples given in the email mentioning about the coupon number which begun with 'DSGNxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx'. Thinking this was the coupon number I tried to enter it but I ran out of space in the in box so I guessed this wasn't the coupon number.
I tried using https://www.identit-e.com/default/index/submitadobe instead which asked for the product code but still this came up which problems.
So please help what am I doing wrong or why isn't it working for me?

Which country/region are you located in? If it North America then you would want to enter your product code on the page indicated. If you are unable to locate your product code on your box then you may want to work with your reseller to obtain a replacement.

If I'm understanding correctly, you have an Apple TV 2 (the small, black box version of the Apple TV), and downloaded the Remote App from the iTunes Store for your iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad, correct? If so...
For the AppleTV setup, hook it up to your television and, if applicable, your Surround Sound system. To do this, you'll use an HDMI cable (not included, available here) to hook the AppleTV to your Television. The cable only fits one way, and should slide effortlessly into place. If, and only if, you intend to use your surround sound system with the AppleTV, you will also need what's called a TOSLINK Optical Cable (also not included, available here). This cable goes from the AppleTV to a port labelled Optical In or Digital In on the back of your surround receiver (consult the manual that came with your surround sound system for additonal help).
From here on, we'll focus on hooking up the AppleTV, then how to setup the Remote App from Apple on your iOS device.
The AppleTV needs a network connection in order to function correctly. A wired connection is recommended, but Wi-Fi is built-in to the AppleTV if a wired connection isn't available. With the AppleTV plugged into your television, follow the on-screen instructions for setup. To connect the AppleTV to your Wi-Fi network, you'll need to know the name of the network you want to connect to, as well as any password needed to connect to it. When the AppleTV has a network connection, it'll load the latest selection of TV Shows, Movies and Music for display on the main menu - that's the easiest way to tell everything's working.
For the Remote App, all you need to do is download the free application to a compatible iOS device (Any iOS device running iOS 3.1.2 or higher). Once downloaded, go to the computer hosting your iTunes library, and turn on Home Sharing. Finally, start the Remote App on your iOS device (be it iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch), login with the same information you setup Home Sharing with, and away you go! The Remote App is entirely optional, since the AppleTV can be controlled by the included remote control, but it's a nice touch nonetheless.

I have purchased a iPad mini online from the Apple store. Since day one I had 2 issues with it. First is that the battery life doesn't last more than 5-6h active usage, and the second one is with the wi-fi. It works properly but after I leave it for a while in sleep mode and try to reuse it, it doesn't want to open a web page or app store or mail (anything connected with the internet search) but it shows that is properly connected with my home network. So I have to turn off the wi-fi connection and turn it on again so it start to work properly. After couple off days this becomed very annoying so I contacted the support via phone and they gave me instructions for return it and that I'll receive a new one without aditional fee. I get the second device in the predicted time but again I have the same issues with the wi-fi and battery life. I will be pleased if someone from the Apple expert team explaine to me what should I do, because I dont find it for normal what is happening. On the Apple official site under the specifications for iPad mini it says that the battery lasts for at least 10h and the wi-fi problem isn't mentioned anywhere. Thanks in advance.

If you want someone from Apple to explain what you should do make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one near you and take your iPad there and talk to Apple. If you tried to restore to your iCloud backup and your photos didn't fully restore, first go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure it isn't still in the process of restoring.
If the restore is complete and all your photos weren't restored, all you can do is try restoring the backup again. You might try the solution posted by ezjules in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589. This involves opening the photos app after the phone restarts and you provide the passwords for your Apple IDs, then leaving it open for the remainder of the restore process.
