Collect Fonts

Does InDesign collect fonts of placed psd files? If not, are there any 3rd party programs taat anyone knows of to do this? Thanx.

Yeah, that's what I thought U were getting at, but I tried it and it didn't work. Am in a flurry here doing lots of stuff.But, now that I know YOU said it will work I will check my settings and give it a go another time. Thank-U Bob

Where is the "Collect Fonts for Output" option in CS5?

There was a demo script included with some versions that claimed to collect for output - i never tried it.
Most of us here use either Artfiles or Scoop. Both are 3rd party. Scoop is a plugin, Artfiles is a separate app.

I like to use collective fonts as microsoft word let me in the option fonts/collections but in InDesign CC only got favorites, why is this so limited, i like order and group fonts similar to work more selective and don't see hundreds of fonts. Please Desi

I got created a fonts collections in fonts catalog.app and i can see them in collections in the program microsoft word, unfortunately in InDesign CC is not posible, only got all the list of fonts available in the computer, the option to reduce the view of fonts is favorites or restrict by part of the name or type. I believe this feature most by included as default in InDesign CC. Manage fonts collection is a pretty good option to view big differents type of fonts selected together. even the smart collection are not visibles.

InDesign users use normally paragraph styles and character style, no need to sort out font collections. only when you set up the styles.
NEVER work without styles, don't us style overrides.
But you can type in any part of the font name and you get all fonts with this expression in the name, not necessary the first letters.

CJK font (non)collecting

Why does InDesign exclude Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts when collecting fonts during a "Package"?
It is illogical that InDesign lets you use the fonts, but not package them. And it's very vague, sneaky even, to refer to CJK fonts in the dialog without being more implicit.

CJK fonts can be tens of megabytes in size (modern ones typically contain on the order of 30,000 characters and some hold twice that many). Moreover, CJK fonts typically come with stricter licenses than alphabetic. Finally, if I were responsible for a print shop I know I'd much prefer to receive a well-formed PDF with CJK safely subsetted and embedded rather than have to install a colossal font.

Changing font in Oracle Report in PDF output

Hi,
I have created reports using dev10g(report builder). I can run report from client side in pdf format but I want to change the font (i.e from courier to Arial narrow).
How can I do this?
Is there anyone who can help me?

InDesign does not package fonts used in placed .AI files

When we package a project for our print vendor, placed .AI files containing fonts do not get collected. I know those fonts are embedded in the .AI file when printing from InDesign, but sometimes our prep vendors need to make last minute edits to these .AI files before they RIP the project. Is there a way to have InDesign collect fonts from .AI files? I know we could use Illustrator .EPS format and uncheck "Embed Fonts", but our vendors prefer .AI files. Any add-on plugins available to solve this problem or other workarounds?

I suppose you could open each .ai file, go to select> object> text objects, copy, then paste into InDesign, save and package. Then delete the pasted type after packaging. This does not work with Zaph dingbats, symbol, or probably other "ornamental" fonts, which are converted to outline upon pasting.

Font Book Vs. Font Explorer

Hi all I have for some time found a simple pleasure in downloading and collecting fonts, don't ask me why I find it relaxing, I don't know
I was wondering what other people thought of LinoType's Font Explorer as an alternative to Apple's Font Book.
Personally I find that Font Book can become tedious, especially when dealing with font duplicates.
Recently i've discovered Font Explorer by LinoType, I find it so much easier to use and a lot better for font management.
what are your thoughts?

I downloaded font explorer and it is great, better than suitcase as well. Very organized, the conflict feature is great as well, shows you all the duplicates and fonts that are either missing a printer or screen file and marks them in red. As you put your fonts into your user font folder just hit refresh in FE X and it sees them instantly, same with deleting them.

Fonts issue on 10g Reports (Linux)

A while back I posted some questions about installing fonts on Linux RHEL 5.
Currently, I'm in process of upgrading Client/Server Forms/Reports from 6i on a Windows platforms to 10g forms/reports on a Linux RHEL5 platform. No database is installed on the server since we are using the TNSNames in the Network Admin to connect to the database.
I have been able to convert all forms and all reports to 10g. I had an issue with the Arial, Arial Narrow, and Courier New fonts not displaying in output when I generated a PDF file via the screen using the WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT command. The fonts were translating. I was able to use Metalink Note 261879.1 and run the scripts to generate the AFM files and copy the TTF fonts to the appropriate directories. When I run the reports in 10g on Linux, those 3 fonts display just fine.
However, I have 3 other fonts (Monotype Sorts, Arial Unicode MS, and one of Barcode fonts) that I need to get working. I've worked with Oracle Support and I'll be honest, the steps they are telling me either aren't very clear or just flat out aren't right.
I've tried on Windows to use the ttf2pt1 program to generate the AFM files and copied those up to guicommon/tk/admin/AFM directory. I've copied the TTF file up to the associated directory. I've modified the uifont.ali directory to include the font, to no success.
Has anyone tried to move a Windows font up to Linux (Unix) and got it to work successfully? If so, could you provide me some steps? I've really been trying to get this to work and would do anything at this point to get it to work. I've got about 5 reports that use these 3 fonts and if I get them working, I'm done.
Please provide good detail, if possible. Oracle Support has just confused me more by providing notes to read and little tidbits here and there but haven't given me something that works in a straightforward manner.

Prioritizing fonts in Safari

I've been collecting fonts with the intent of covering all Unicode-16 code points. The problem is that some fonts are incomplete for a certain language but have nicer aesthetics or cover a broad range of characters but don't look as nice, and Safari often chooses the less appealing fonts.
So I was wondering if there was any way to prioritise fonts such that a particular font will only be chosen if no others are available.
For example, let's say I have:
-code2000 (many characters but very ugly)
-FreeSerif (in between)
-Antinoou (a very nice Coptic font).
Antinoou is the best looking script for Coptic and code2000 the least. Is there any way I can have it so that Safari always chooses code2000 last, FreeSerif next to last, and Antinoou first?

No, you need to use another browser like Firefox (and maybe Opera) which has some settings to match font with language.
I would recommend you not use Code2000 for anything because it is a windows font and there are many scripts (Arabic and all Indic) where it will most likely not display languages correctly because special Mac fonts are required. I think for any other characters there is also probably a better choice than that.

Font Weight Tool 0.25-100 pt +

I am a New Member of Adobe. My message for Adobe Illustrator Development Team:
In Adobe Illustrator CC you have added a new feature as Touch Type Tool, its good. But I want more. We know we can modify stroke weight/thickness (0.25-100pt) as our demand. We also know maximum fonts have Font Style, I mean Regular-Bold-Italic-Black-Medium-Narrow and many others...But I want My font like a stroke weight. And there will have Weight: 0.25-100 pt and also have Dashed line. Cause.. sometime we are unable to collect font style...and the font only has Regular Style. But we need Bold Style...For this bold style we give the font a Stroke and this is not best choice for a Graphics Designer...If you added a Font Weight Tool 0.25-100 pt + its will help us.

Nokia N8, RM-596 Symbian^3 Keyboard and Font - Lan...

Back in the 'old' days of Nokia Symbian S60 Devices. Nokia has decided that each phone sold to each region (Europe, China, North America, Middle East Africa, India, Thailand) would have separate language packs.
If you live in North America, you probably get Latin Fonts without support for CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), Arabic, Hindi, Hebrew.... etc. and the Keyboard is limited to English, French, Spanish, maybe Italian...
So now, the iPhone and the Android has come out. It has a unicode font set that will display almost every single character of any Latin-based or Foreign non-Latin based language.
So when you are in the US, live in the US and speak English as your mother tongue. But also speak Hebrew, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Spanish, French... your iPhone/Android will be able to browse web pages, read text messages in these languages...
BUT on a Nokia Device... you are stuck.
If you bought a phone in the US. You most probably see ? or 'squares' when going to a foreign languages website or when you receive a message in a foreign language outside your 'pre-destined' language pack.
Then, you need to say, input something in Japanese... but you can't because your keyboard set does not support it.
In the end, many people had to go to Nokia Care and have their phones re-flashed to their desired language. Those who speak more than what Nokia provides as language packs are hooped.
For example, someone who needs Thai, CJK and French cannot do any typing or reading for all these languages in the same device because the regional language pack in Latin-Based Languages.
With the iPhone/Android, you can!!!!
Of course, you can create your own unicode font and place it in E:\ or F:\ to override the Nokia pre-installed limited font set... and then hope that there is a 3rd Party FEP (IME) that will override the Nokia (Virtual) Keyboard that will work with your device so you could input in a language that is not English.
In short, this is a PAIN when Nokia does not release a fully flexible firmware that is truly UNIVERSAL in nature that works with the WORLD and make the phone a WORLD PHONE!
I am, we are, all of us are tired of hacking into our phones, changing language packs, fonts, FEPs to make our Nokia Device suit our needs.
So... my question to the Nokia N8 Developers, Sales & Marketing Team.
Does the Nokia N8, rather Symbian S^3
a) Does the Font installed in the Nokia N8 (Symbian S^3) Device support all languages, foreign languages, Double-Byte Characters so like someone in the US or Canada or the UK or maybe even Europe or China.... can read something in a foreign language?
b) Does Nokia have a Universal IME, e.g., FEP that will allow users to switch language input?
OR do we have to find hacks and workarounds again?
Please HELP! I need to know before I buy another Nokia Device and get disappointed!

OK. This is confirmed. Font replacement in the S^3 Device Nokia N8 is the same as previous (minus a few devices that required the font router)
I am going to re-edit my Nokia Sereis 60 Font again... because I used an ugly but almost complete Unicode Typeface.
Just place your 'modified font' in E:\Resource\Fonts or F:\Resource\Fonts. The font should have the same font name, font family as what the S^3 device ships with.
Simple as in N97 and N97 Mini Font Replacement and older Nokias that do not require the 'Font Router' application that cannot be installed and used in some S60 devices.
Just don't know what the size limitations are this time.

The font store automatically loads all files in \resources\fonts\ on all drives at startup. The search path is soft to hard ( Y:, X:, W:, ..., C:, B:, A:, Z and if two or more files have the same name the first one found is used. This means that files in the ROM (Z can be replaced with files on user drives.
The font store assumes that the files are in an appropriate format (see). Unsupported font files require a corresponding font rasterizer plug-in.
To install a font file at startup:
Copy it into \resources\fonts\ on any drive.
Restart the device to restart the Font and Bitmap server.
It is also possible to load a font file dynamically at run time. It is not possible to install a new font rasterizer at run time, however, so font files installed at run time must either be bitmap fonts or supported by an existing font rasterizer.
To dynamically install a font file:
Call CWsScreenDevice::AddFile() , specifying the file to be loaded.
Nokia just gave me a new project to do. I don;t know if I should thank them or curse them for not providing this basic feature. Font + Languages!

Font Issue!, not just an a regular ole issue!

Ok....I've started doing web design and development at a Application, Software, Website & Server, Hardware company. That's right we manage and house servers for local businesses, intergrate our IMS software for companies and customize for their needs, do hardware fixes, and implement websites that use our software (IMS... aka.... Intergrated Management System)....and trying to find some sort of fix with fonts
PROBLEM: We are running Vista, Windows 7, and OSx6.4 (just me, the rest are ALL PCs) and having a hard time trying to figure out a PROPER WAY of managing our Fonts throughout all the different OS's. This is probably not gonna be an easy fix if any at all, but you can see where we are running into obvious issues. We are all using CS4, but cross-platform is where the issues are.
Any suggestions on a way that would make it easier, than just serving up the fonts on a particular folder on our server to be installed onto a different machine. My first thought is the "PACKAGE" utility in InDesign, to collect fonts and images to save with the actual Native file in the development directory.
Is there any sorda program that will do this for any CS program, and also cross-platform. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! And I know I probably left out pertinent stuff that would help in answering the question properly, so please ask if that is the case

What you need to do is use fonts that are cross platform compatible. That leaves out Mac Type 1 PostScript and older Mac suitcase style TrueType fonts.
You can use these without any type of conversion. They can be copied from one OS to the other and used as is:
OpenType - fonts ending in .otf , .ttf and .ttc
TrueType - fonts ending (also) in .ttf and .ttc
Windows Type 1 PostScript - paired fonts ending in .pfm and .pfb
For the latter, Win T1 PS fonts will only work on the Mac if you place them in a specific location. And then only with the Adobe CS2 apps or newer. To use Win T1 PS fonts on the Mac, put them in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/ folder. If a folder named Fonts does not exist in that location, just create it and you will be able to use those fonts in the Adobe apps.
You can use Mac Type 1 PostScript fonts and legacy TrueType, but you'd have to convert them to one of the above formats first. OpenType is the best choice as it will support 16 bit fonts (more than 256 glyphs).

In Captivate 6 Interactions, why does the content font not change to the selected size or font?

Not sure if I am confusing the issue but, I am assuming you are on a mac, have you tried the font book preference?...see below.
Disable or enable fonts
Disabled fonts remain on your Mac, but aren’t listed in apps, the Fonts menu, or the Fonts window.
Open Font Book
In Font Book, select one or more collections, font families, or styles.You can’t disable system fonts; these fonts have a lock icon next to the font name at the bottom of the Font Book window.
Deselect or select the checkbox below the list of fonts. To disable or enable a collection, choose the command from the Edit menu.Disabled fonts appear in gray and are labeled “Off.”
By default, Font Book locates and enables fonts on your Mac, even if you haven’t installed the fonts using Font Book. To turn this feature off, choose Font Book > Preferences, then deselect “Automatic font activation.”

I have a dilema i use a programme called Mackeeper i accidentally moved several files to my trash,i would like to put the files back where they belong but put back option is in grey and wont work??

I have a dilema i use a programme called Mackeeper i accidentally moved several checked files to my trash BUT i didnt delete them,i would like to put the files back where they belong but the put back option is in grey and wont work?? i have spoken to Apple and to no avail !!!
Mackeeper moved my files to my trash so i pulled them out of my trash to my desktop it has copied them to my desktop as well as kept them in my trash!!
im so confused and things are not working properly anymore such as my google chrome for example...all my book marks are gone BUT i can go to the google file which is out of place on my desktop and view all my bookmarks data...ALL of my files still exist but they are just out of place now which is making it hard for certain options on my computer to work...

HOW do i get this stuff back to where it is supposed to go so that these programmes work properly again???? i also used delete and command but that did not work either,like i said i have not emptied my trash and ALL the info is there its just totally out of place and the put back option will not work sor some reason!!??? im running 10.8.5 imac someone PLEASE help me!!

Step 1
Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Failure to remove MacKeeper will result from neglecting any one of these points:
Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
Don't empty the Trash after dragging the application to it. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
Don't try to drag the MacKeeper icon in the Dock to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.

Restore from the last backup that predates the unwanted changes.

Run out of licenses, can do 20 reports in 20 minutes before receiving error

I have a problem with running out of Licenses when using our ASP.NET Web Application.Our Web Application exports and opens a Crystal Report to PDF when the user clicks on the report link. Unfortunately we have only a certain number of licenses available and after each use it's useless for about 20 minutes! In a 20 minute period we are able to run up to 20 reports before getting the "out of licenses" error page. So if you have 5 users going through multiple reports in a short time we've run out of licenses and they have to wait 20 minutes before trying again!?! I am trying to find a means of improving this and have a few thoughts on how:<ol><li>Close the license being used (and make available to somebody else) once the report is created. We generally do not have 20 concurrent users at any time but in a 20 minute time span we can have over 20 report requests. </li><li>Shorten the time before the license becomes available again (like to 5 minutes) Long enough for even the larger reports to run, but short enough that the chances of 20 reports being requested in a 5 minute period is slim. </li><li>Save the License use for that particular USER for the period of time (so if they open 1 or 10 reports it all utilizes the same License). This would work fine because it's a small office of just over 20 users and the chance of everybody accessing reports in that same 20 minutes is very low. </li></ol> If anybody has any ideas, suggestions, hints, or "it can't be done" I would greatly appreciate it! We haven't found anything in the RAS settings and I haven't found anything that effects the LICENSING in .NET (and using Report.Close() does not free up the license). Thanks,~Drew 

Alright, I seem to have some success in fixing this issue, though it isn't the 100% best solution. I create the ReportDocument in the Global.asax.vb file

Since this is created as a session-level object in Global.asax.vb I reference it in the display page as Session("crpt") and I clean it up by the end of the page but I don't make the session object into nothing.<blockquote>If Not IsNothing(Session("crpt")) Then<blockquote>Session("crpt").Close() System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(Session("crpt"))</blockquote>End If </blockquote>Then on Session End in the Global.asax.vb I clean up the Session variable and call the garbage collection.<blockquote>If Not IsNothing(Session("crpt")) Then<blockquote>Session("crpt").Close() System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(Session("crpt")) Session("crpt") = Nothing Session("crpt").Dispose()</blockquote>End If GC.Collect() </blockquote>It seems to be working at this time though there is the limitation that now everybody who enters the web application gets an object whether or not they are going to run reports. The more ideal situation would be for the object to not be created until the user enters the report page or have the page that creates/displays the report to check if the object exists and if it does not to create the object.
