Colleval "Freezes" at random collections.

Hello all,
Collections updates freezes at what seems random times and random collections. This happens about 2 times a day. 2 weeks ago we did a upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 CU3.

Anyone an idea where to look for?
Kindest Regards,

There are about 55 incremental update collections. We have made ROOT Collections and in some of them we made a query that discovers the "Unknown Computers"
The colleval.log above is at the moment of the freeze.

  • MacBook Pro - Stall, Freezes at Random Times & Durations

Hello all, hope you can help me with a perplexing problem.
Starting this past Monday, my MacBook Pro (specs below) started stalling or freezing at random times. The stalls will sometimes last for 5 seconds and then I can use it again, other times it'll last for 30 seconds to several minutes. On occasion it'll freeze up so hard that I have to do a hard shut down. When it stalls, I can move my mouse and even select other applications which sometimes work. More often then not, it stalls all the programs and I just have to wait.
It does not seem to matter what applications are running or how many. Generally I run a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, or Safari - I've been alternating to see if one is better) with one or two tabs open. I've worked flawlessly for several hours with Browser, Word, and Terminal open, then it freezes up when I try to open something like System Preferences (or Spotlight or whatnot). So there is no real pattern when it comes to applications.
The temperature hovers around 55 - 65. RAM usage rarely tops half and CPU fluctuates but nothing outside of what you'd consider normal (i.e. it never pegs at 100% when stalled or frozen).
    I've tried the following:
    * Ran Rember (1 pass, then another 25 passes over night) - No Errors
    * Ran Verify Permissions - No Errors
    * Ran Verify Disk - No Errors
    * Reformatted and Reinstalled the OS from scratch (problem continues)
    * Repeated the Rember, Verify Disk Permissions, and Verify Disk - No Errors
    * Reset PRAM and NVRAM
    * Reset the SMC
    * Ran Applejack and all the tests associated with it.
In the Console system.log, there was an instance of unknown-dev: flushing fs disk buffer returned 0x5. After doing some Googling, I ended up disabling Journaling to see if that would make a difference. I was able to run for about 25 minutes before it froze up again.
Any other thoughts or theories that I could try out? Much appreciated.

If you done that, then I believe you have a hard drive issue. Did you zero-out the drive (select "Zero out data" under the "Security Options" button in your Disk Utility) before you reinstalled a new system? If not, you might try that to map out any bad sectors first, before replacing the drive.

  • Firefox 18.0.1 often freezes, at random times, since about 31 Jan 2013

    2 Feb 2013
Concerns: Firefox 18.0.1 often freezes, at random times, since about 31 Jan 2013
I am using Mozilla Firefox 18.0.1, Windows Vista, PC, Desktop.
My Mozilla Firefox freezes since about 31 Jan 2013 at random times quite often, when I do see TV or videos, also with YouTube videos. It freezes especially when I do start TV or a Video, sometimes also it freezes when the video is running for some time. I do use Firefox mostly only for TV and videos, so else I do not see.
Some days earlier (26 January 2013), I had installed the upgrade of the new Norton Internet Security 2013. The two Norton add-ons on for Firefox, I have both deactivated.
I can get out of the freezing, when I do click to end the Internet connection. After I have waited for about 5 seconds, the Mozilla Firefox browser can be moved again with the cursor. After I click to close the Firefox, and wait for about 5 seconds, the freezing also does end.
I did do two Windows restores, one to 1 week ago and the next to 2 weeks ago. After the restore, when I started Mozilla Firefox, it was at first Firefox 17. But to my very bad luck, Firefox started immediately to update to Firefox 18.0.1 I had seen this updating on Help – About Firefox. There were good times, when people could choose themselves which version of Firefox they wanted.
After the restore, I had also downloaded the latest Adobe Flashplayer version (about version 11.5), but the freezes have remained the same.
Is there a possility to prevent the automatic update of Firefox? So that I could choose which version of Firefox, I do want. When there is a serious bug in Firefox, I could nevertheless use Firefox instead of changing to the Internet Explorer. I know I myself am responsible to prevent hackers from entering my computer. I have read that 80% of users in Germany do not have any Internet Security against hackers at all.
My Internet Explorer until now does not freeze.

This is not a solution. It is a gun in the mouth. Give us specific solutions, not "throw everything away" palliatives that involve no thought, investigation or effort of any kind on Mozilla's part. 95% of the utility of FF is not FF itself, but addons. After many years of developing that context, throwing it all away to get back a rudimentary 5% is as unacceptable as it is stupid.

  • Forms Application(custom built) freezes at random.  Urgent!!

    Hi
We have a forms application built in 6i and deployed on 9i Rel1 application server.
    Database is Oracle 9i Rel2.
The forms application freezes at random with no errors.
    The jinitiator version is 1.1.8.19.
The forms has scroll bars and most of them are tabbed canvas on plain canvas.
Any suggestion will be greately appriciated. Please help.
    Thanks you.

It is very difficult to say why you are experiencing a performance issue. I do recall that one of the JInitiator versions did have a problem which caused some minor performance issues. If you are not using version 1.3.1.30 (the last version created) I would recommend using it. Also, here are some things to consider,
    1. If the client machines are old and outdated, you likely will experience performance problems as the products you run on it are replaced with newer ones. For example, if you were previously running JInit 1.1.8 on an under powered WinXP, NT or older machine and are now running Jinit 1.3.1.x, I would expect poor performance.
    2. The form will be slow to start the first time you run it with the new JRE (JInit). This is because the jar file(s) as well as other files must be downloaded and cached. After this occurs, future attempts should startup somewhat quicker.
    3. If the first form/canvas that is presented to the end-user in your application contains a large number of gui objects (text boxes, buttons, etc), this will delay startup. Creating a splash or welcome screen which contains a very limited number of objects can help to increase startup performance or at least the perception.
    4. On the server (mid tier), do not access application files across network shares. For example if "Forms" is running on a machine called "myMachine" all of the Forms modules (fmx, mmx, plx) files should be on the same machine, "myMachine". Accessing these files remotely will degrade performance.
    5. In all cases, having sufficient RAM on the client and server are an important factor to ensuring the best possible performance. Of course a fast CPU is always helpful too, but generally most machine are short of memory and not CPU.

  • My macbook freezes at random times?

Hey everyone, i just got this macbook a few weeks ago second hand. i've replaced the top case, and reformatted and installed osx 10.5.8 on the computer. and upgraded the ram to 2 gb. Every since day one i've had problems with the computer freezing at random times. Either trying to do multiple things at once will cause the spinning wheel, and won't allow me to do anything. Sometimes it's just an application that will freeze or sometimes the whole computer freezes as the time gets stuck at the time it froze. The computer will also freeze when i'm in the middle of moving larger files from a firewire external drive onto the computer. Any ideas or suggestions? I've ran permissions repair and repaired the drive and neither help at all. It also took me 3 attempts to install the o.s. as it would freeze, i thought that was due to the 512mb of ram it had installed. so i installed the 2gb once i got the o.s. finally installed.

Heres a log from the most recent freeze.

  • My daughter's Mac book freezes at random times. Apple's been unable to fix it. Her college grades are suffering. How can I convince Apple to just replace it?

My daughter's Mac book freezes at random times. Apple's been unable to fix it. On most visits to the Apple store, it works fine. On other visits, it acts up, and they replace something like the RAM or the hard drive.  She lost a semester for university course notes, and currently can't use it at all, because Apple sent it out for 'diagnostics'.  Her college grades are suffering. How can I convince Apple to just replace it?

Apple policy in the past has been to try and repair three times.  If is not successful, then replace.  So keep accuarate records on when and what was repaired so you can make your argument that it needs to be replaced.

  • Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 beachballing and then freezing at random intervals

My computer at work has been beachballing and then freezing at random intervals for the past week or so.
What happens is that all processes stop. The cursor is still responsive for a while, and then the application I'm in, regardless of what it is, “beachballs.”
Occasionally I'm able to wait it out and the computer becomes usable again and other times it just freezes. Then I can't force quit so I have to do a hard power cycle and then start up again. This happens every day, at least 4 times a day.
I've been keeping the system.log open to look for any tell-tale issues and noticed that during every crash I get the following information:
    3 kernel[0] disk)s3: data underrun
    3 kernel[0]
and it repeats until the computer becomes responsive again or I decide to do a hard power cycle.
In addition, I checked the System Profiler diagnostics area and found this:
     Last Run:    11/8/10 1:05 PM
      Result:    Failed
      Failure type:    Memory
      Memory slots:    DIMM6/J43, DIMM7/J44
So…I switched out the offending bars and switched them for 1 GB bars and this problem was solved.
The diagnostics result for the Power On Self-Test:
    Last Run: 11/10/10 6:21 PM
    Result: Passed
However…I'm still experiencing beachballing and freezing problems with the same severity and frequency.
    Help!

So, to clarify: do you suggest I use Disk Utility first to see if any problems are uncovered? Or should I use TechTool Deluxe instead and test the RAM with Memtest?
My two cents would be use Disk Utility first. If you don't have the install disk handy, you can do the same thing with single-user mode. See this link for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
You have to run it from single user mode (start with command-S keys held down until you get a Unix terminal screen.
You can also run memtest from single-user mode, though I do not remember the command syntax offhand. Looking at an AppleJack log, though, I see the following command line entry that was used to run memtest on a three-pass check
    */usr/local/sbin/memtest all 3 -L*
Running memtest from single-user mode tests more of the RAM because little is occupied by the BSD kernel.
A snip of the terminal output running memtest:
    Test sequence 1 of 3:
    Stuck Address : ok
    Random Value : ok
    Compare XOR : ok
    Compare SUB : ok
    Compare MUL : ok
    Compare DIV : ok
    Compare OR : ok
    Compare AND : ok
    Sequential Increment: ok
    Solid Bits : ok
    Block Sequential : ok
    Checkerboard : ok
    Bit Spread : ok
    Bit Flip : ok
    Walking Ones : ok
    Walking Zeroes : ok
Somewhat thorough, though no test is completely bulletproof.

Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Satellite C660-184 freezes at random times whilst playing a game.

Laptop Freezes at random times whilst playing Football Manager 2011. The game isn't graphic intensive and had worked for about a month with no problems, only recently has it begun to freeze and the only thing i can do is switch off my laptop by the power button.
    I have a
    Satellite C660-184
    Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
    - Intel Core i3-380M Processor
    - DVD-SuperMulti +-R (Double Layer)
    - 4096 MB (2048 +2048) DDR3 RAM (1066MHZ)

My graphics card driver is up to date, says my latest one is 28/07/2010.
I'm at a loss to explain what is happening.
Help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi buddy,
    > The game isn't graphic intensive and had worked for about a month with no problems, only recently has it begun to freeze
This could mean that the notebook is overheating now
The reason of overheating is dust that is blocking the fan so the notebook gets hotter
I would recommend cleaning it using compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators. You can do this without disassembling the computer so its very easy and takes 5 minutes only.
Just remove the battery and disconnect AC/DC adapter before you do this.
For example I clean my notebook every 4 months because a lot of dust is coming out so its worthwhile.

  • Keyboard and trackpad freeze and randomly become unresponsive

    I've got a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011) running Mac OS X 10.8.2.
Since a few weeks ago at random intervals my keyboard and trackpad become permanently unresponsive. I don't recall any particular cause or change that would have caused this to start happening.
What happens is that the trackpad and keyboard will stop functioning completely. The computer, display etc. would continue to function properly:
    The clock keeps ticking.
If music were playing it would continue etc.
Internet connectivity (via an ethernet cable or WiFi) continues to work as well (a download will continue, and even resume if I disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable).
Presssing the power button will bring up the shutdown dialog as usual (but I can't use it, obviously, so a forced shutdown needs to be performed instead by holding down the power button longer).
.. but the keyboard and trackpad are rendered inoperable, as if they were no longer connected.
I've made no progress in finding out what could possibly be the cause of this. A few observations:
It has never happened while not using the keyboard (e.g. watch a DVD with TV series for a few hours, and afterwards the keyboard would always be fine).
It always happens while actively typing (e.g. while in the middle of replying to an e-mail).
It is not a temporary problem, the keyboard and trackpad will not become responsive again after some time (the computer isn't particulary occupied with calculating something big, no beachball and no busy mechanical noises).
It does not happen progessively. It works fine and snappy one second, and I'm touching a dead keyboard a split second later.
I tried connecting a USB keyboard but that doesn't seem to work either (I'm mentioning this since some of the linked threads below close with that as a solution).
Possibly related (although I haven't found anything in these threads):
Keyboard causes trackpad to not function properly
    Keyboard and trackpack freeze
    Keyboard and Trackpad Unresponsive
MacBook Pro Keyboard & TrackPad freeze! Totally Unresponsive!
MacBook Pro inbuilt Keyboard and Trackpad freeze when not connected to bluetooth devices?
I've crawled through some log files in /var/log (via the shell and through Console.app) and found a couple things that may be relevant, although they seem unrelated. Etiher way, I was surprised by what I found. All sorts of errors with regards to Bluetooth and USB stuff. I'm not aware of using either. I haven't used bluetooth in years and though I sometimes charge an iPod by USB, I haven't had any problems with that, and this keyboard/trackpad freeze has also happened on sessions where I started the laptop and never even touch the USB ports in the time leading up to the freeze.

  • Firefox freezes at random times and I have to end process, restart to use it

I have no problems with running Firefox.
I got a new laptop, downloaded Firefox and have had problems with it randomly freezing. It will attempt to load a page, freeze and won't unfreeze no matter how long I wait. I have to open the task manager and end the firefox.exe process to close the program and restart it.
My initial belief was that I may have downloaded a wrong bit version.
I'm currently running Windows 7 with a 64-bit operating system. I am running Firefox 3.6.13.
    Any help?

It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • My iMAC often freezes after waking from sleep, or occasionally freezes at random. How do I stop this?

I have 10.6.8 on my iMAC. I have been shutting down my iMAC partly because I often get freezes a few seconds after the mac wakes. The freezes also occur at random. There is seldom any way to shut down the MAC except by pulling the power cord, though very rarely I am able to finally achieve a normal shutdown. I have tried fixing permissions as well starting in Safe Mode, and while these seemed to help at first, they no longer seem to have any affect.
I thought that maybe I got some kind of virus/trojan/etc., but from what I have read here that very likely is not the case.
I have also read here that the issue could be  "hardware."  Does this mean things like my printer or external speaker, or external hardrive? or does it mean the hardware of the computer itself? I have read about a "Hardware Test." Does this "Apple Hardware Test" have a benefit here in figuring out the problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions? I certainly can't keep 'pulling the plug,' and I know now from these discussions that shutting down (vs. sleep) on a regular basis is not best either for the imac. (I am loathe to upgrade to LION until I get this problem resolved, though, interestingly, I seem to see that a number of LION folks have the same or similar problem.)

    FussGus,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What periherals, especially USB ones, do you have attached to your Mac? Does the problem persist with everything other than the Apple keyboard and mouse disconnected?
Does the problem persist if you Start Up in Safe Mode? If so, check what items are in /Library/StartupItems and /Library/PreferencePanes.
As generic advice for sleep-related issues:
For a Mac OS X with sleep problems (file names and locations are for 10.4.x):
    -- trash /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    -- trash /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
-- reboot while resetting PRAM (restaqrt while holding down command-option-p-r until you hear three sets of chimes, then release the keys)
While not directly related, since your wakes before freezing, also refer to Computer Will Not Wake From Sleep

  • Installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp and it freezes at expanding files (will freeze at random% for sure)

    Hello there,
I have my Macbook Pro 13'' (mid 2012 version) updated to the latest IOS 10.7.5. But when i tried to install Windows 7 64bits with bootcamp by
following as exactly the latest bootcamp guide, during the Windows 7 installation, expanding files, it will freezes at a random% for sure, i've several times
and still encountering the same problems, is there any other way to fix this? I really need my Windows 7 installed.
Many thanks, and happy holiday for those who reads this.
    Apologize for my crappy english.

You may have some sort of issue with the install disc? I might try a different disc - even just try burning a new disc from the old? (I'm not sure how if that would work - don't know much about Windows installation media - but I'm sure that you could download Windows 7 from the Internet as an .iso image and burn that to disc, then use your activation key?).
    BUMP!

  • Why is my computer freezing at random times? (PLEASE HELP)

Okay, I'll have a few applications open at once (hardly anything that uses much memory) and it randomly freezes when i'm in the middle of something. When it happens i'll either wait 10 minutes for it to respond again (say if I were to press the volume and brightness key multiple times when it's frozen to see if it were responding, it'll unfreeze and it will do all those keys at once 10 minutes later.) This is really getting on my nerves. Multiple times, I have had to shut the computer down by the power button after a long time of waiting (during unsaved work).
Edit: During the freeze process, I also can't move my cursor around, but I can alt/tab and press only a few buttons from F1-F12.
If anyone has any solutions, please reply ASAP.
Here are the spec's of my Macbook:
