Color blend layer appears pale

I am working with a colleague on some icons and am having an issue with a color blend layer.  I'm using Fireworks CS5 11.0.1.7 and he is on CS4.  The base shape is a shaded cube and we want to overlay a rainbow on the cube.  For him this looks good, but for me the color layer is very pale (using the same PNG).
colleague on CS4:
me on CS5:
As far as I can tell we are doing the same thing.  Am I missing something?  Did the Blending change between versions?
Here is the layered PNG file:

Hi,
There definitely seems to be a version issue here. I have both CS4 and CS5.1 on the same machine and there is a huge difference in the way the Blend Mode is working. Technically however I'm not sure which version is working correctly.
I tried the various options and found that taking your grey and white box over the rainbow box layer and giving it a "Color Burn" blend mode looks similar to what you need for the specific situation (maybe brighten the rainbow colors a bit). Both versions Fireworks CS4 and CS5 show the same effect with this blend mode.
Hope this helps!

  • Can't create a solid color fill layer !!

I wonder if someone can help this PS newbie before I go insane ?
If I create a color fill layer & want to set it to a solid yellow color I can NOT get it to change color
no matter what I do on the color picker it remains white
I start clicking the small circle icon ( half black / white ) & selecting solid color
I click on the yellow bit of the vertical color bar & use the cursor to select the precise shade of yellow
to the top right there is a small rectangle
the color I choose - yellow - appears on the top half , the bottom half is white
I click OK so my small box is top-half yellow, bottom half white - the layer stays stubbornly white
shouldn't it go the color I choose ??
Now whats driving me mad is that last week I was doing this for fun
I had a jpeg file of a book page that I could create a highlighter pen effect by putting a yellow layer on top & sliding
the opacity down to 20% or whatever
I have opened one of the psd files I created & the color fill layer is yellow
the left-side palette thumbnail is yellow
when I edit the color the small rectangle is entirely yellow - top & bottom
I don't know what I am doing differently or not doing that I need to do ...
    any ideas gratefully received !

    YESSSS !!!!
sanity restored.....you, sir, are a genius.
    thankyou.

    BINGO !!!!
Thanks so much Woodsroad. I had the exact same problem with my Dell Windows 7 64 bit with AMD Radeon 6700 Video card.
All the video tests passed with flying colors.
The sniffer rename trick fixed the problem.

  • Color blender tool and other questions

Hey. I've got Photoshop CS4, which I've been using pretty successfully for digital and pixel art, but there's still a lot to the program that's unknown to me, and trying to google up an answer isn't getting me anywhere. I've got a few questions.
Is there some sort of color blender tool in CS4? By color blender, I mean something that will easily let me pick two separate colors and generate a range of colors that are between them. The tool at http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/color-blend/ is an example of a program that does what I'm hoping Photoshop can do.
Is there a way to simultaneously view my canvas both zoomed in and at it actual size as I draw? This is mainly for pixel art, where the art close-up can look really different from the actual product. A little actual-sized canvas in the corner of my screen that updated as I made changes to the art in zoom in would save me the time I spend fiddling with magnifying glasses.
Is there was way to keep the smudge tool at full opacity? When using it, smudging edges of color onto a blank space makes them start to get transparent. As of now I just get rid of it by multiplying the layer a few times and then merging, but is there a way to disable that?
If there are no definite ways to do these things, any suggestions or guides you know of would be useful too. Thanks!

    Hello!
Select the gradient tool, it is an alternate tool to the paint bucket one (Hit Shift+G until you see it replace the Paint Bucket tool)
Double-click on the gradient you see in the option bar, you will then get the gradient editor http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-77dfa.h tml
Double-click on the first color stop to get an eyedropper, sample your first color, do the same with the end one, and the second color.
Once your gradient is created, you'll be able to lay down a gradient, and pick the middle color with the eyedropper tool.

  • Secondary Color Correction layer not working in .look file

I needed to edit an image for continuity reasons so I exported a .dpx frame from that section of my premiere pro project and worked on it in speedgrade.  In the workflow I have set for myself, it is best to apply the look in after effects using the "apply color lut" function.  Unfortunately, the secondary color correction layer does not apply, but other layers such as primary will.

    Hi ACD,
After Effects and Photoshop CS6 take .Looks via the LUT engine. That indeed allows for using primaries with low mid high differentiation and should yield really good results.
Secondaries can be expressed in a LUT as well, but I would typically not recommend using them when you want to integrate .Looks with your After Effects workflow. Here's why:
    - a LUT is never as precise as you'd want it to be for something as complex as secondary color grading - a LUT is always based on interpolation (as opposed to applying the effect in SpeedGrade - there it's all native, no interpolation at all)
    - For a good key you would typically use the denoise and the blur function in the secondaries. Both (by nature) don't translate at all into a LUT, so you'd have to give up using these 2 important tools
    - For a lot of work you'd want the LUT to be accompanied by a mask. That's something that also can't be described in a LUT.
Think of the LUT support for .Looks you created in SpeedGrade more as a really helpful tool for matching your comps to an overall look you design, not necessarily as the tool to apply a final grade.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Action help to copy color in layer mask to another layer mask

    Hi all,
    Having trouble with this problem...
I have layer 1 with a color mask set to black, red, blue etc.
I have layer 2 with a color mask which i want to match and also become black, red, blue
There are hundreds of files, and the color in layer 1 is always different.
Manually i would simply click on the layer 2 mask which opens the color picker, and select the area of layer 1 i want to match.
But doing that in an action does not work.
I can't get the action to recognize that i want to copy the color content of a mask, and not the specific color used in the example during which the macro is recorded. The color picker does not seem capable of selecting a dynamic input (e.g. whatever color is on layer 1), it simply copies whatever was in layer 1 during recording like a dumb instrument.
    thanks for any input.

Not sure what you mean by color mask, but I just noticed cs6 seems to have a new feature in the actions tab dropdown menu (small top right button) called 'allow tool recording'.
I just tried to make an eyedropper action with that option turned on and now the color does change when I change the image colors and run the action again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Indesign problem : background color don't appears in the pdf...

    Hello,
When I export the document to PDF, the background color doesn't appears in the pdf.
I'm a new Indesign user. Ihave searched every where, but i have not found  tutorial about this problem...
    EM2C

How did you implement this "background color"?
If, as I suspect, you changed the [Paper] swatch, then you aren't seeing a malfunction. That swatch is non-printing, and will not show up anywhere but in the InDesign editing environment. To add a color in the background, you must actually fill an object with the color and position it behind the rest of the elements in your layout.

  • Transparency and color blend space: fail!

Hi there. I keep trying to export my pdf, to no avail.
I get an error that pops up that says there is an error with my transparency and color blend space.
HOWEVER, all my images are set to CMYK (it says so in the links panel) and my transparency blend space is also set to CMYK. I have no errors in my preflight panel. When I ignore the message and continue to export, the image looks completely different and not the way I want it to show up.
Please let me know how I can fix this error! Thanks so much!

Document CMYK is the assigned profile in Edit>Assign Profiles.... Working CMYK is Color Settings...>Working Spaces>CMYK. If there's no profile assigned, document and working are the same. So in this case Document CMYK is Coated FOGRA27 and Working CMYK is US Web Coated SWOP—the assigned FOGRA is color managing the document's native CMYK colors not the working US SWOP

  • Duplicate layer appearance between documents

    Hi there,
I use a javascript that copies all objects within a layer to a new layer in a new document. This works fine as all appearances are attached to the objects but appearances applied to a layer will not be duplicated (as the objects are copied into a newly created layer). Is there a method using javascript to duplicate all layer appearances (effects, fills, strokes) from one layer to another layer?
    Thanks in advance.

It looks as thought the only way to do this is to make the appearances of the layer into a Graphic Style, group the page items on the layer and apply the Style to the new group.

  • Additive Color Blending effect

    Hey,
I've been trying to figure out how this color blending effect was created to no avail... Id like to know how the colors become additive and darker as the density of layers increases approaching a near-black color, even when blending only one color (see second image)... any insight would be greatly appreciated!
    -V

I guess some others don't understand the terminology difference between additive, subtractive, and multiply transparency modes.
In an additive mode, the color values literally add together.  So if I have 3 layers, one of #FF0000 color, one of #00FF00 color, and one of #0000FF color, and they are all in additive mode on top of eachother, they should turn into white or #FFFFFF.  This is like a RGB spectrum color wheel, and I'm assuming it's the effect you are looking for.     This type of transparency is available commonly in many imaging platforms including Lightwave 3D.
Multiply transparency does what the name suggests:  multiplies the color values, so this is not at all what you want to do.
I'm assuming that additive color is what you're looking for.  Unfortunately in Illustrator and PS this is not available.  What is available though is Subtractive color which is the opposite.  So if you want to get the additive effect in AI or PS, you have to put a Black (#000000) underlay under everything, and then set them all to Subtractive color.  This will subtract them all - and then subtract them from black, which will invert the result and turn them into Additive.  Another option is to use Subtractive, and then Invert the result.

  • Replicating Photoshop's Color Blend in Flash

Hi, I'm trying to repllicate PhotoShop's 'Color' blend in
Flash. Flash 8 does not offer a 'Color' blend mode. The closest
    that it offers is 'Overlay'.
Do any Photoshop/Flash users out there have any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    /t

Whoa, stop right there. This is not nearly as complicated as you think.
The monitor profile is used by Photoshop to display the image without any intervention from you. You calibrate and forget it, don't touch that profile. You can work in any color space you like.
The way this works is that Photoshop converts from the document profile to the monitor profile, on the fly, as it displays the image. The calibrator automatically sets the profile as system default for that monitor at OS level, so that Photoshop knows where to look for it.
When you calibrate, two things happen. The first is that the monitor is calibrated to a basic set of parameters: white point, gamma, luminance, black point. This happens either in the video card or internally in the monitor and affects everything globally.
Then a monitor profile is created. This is a complete description of the monitor's response, in 3-dimensional color space, in its calibrated state. Some applications will use this profile, but most will just ignore it.
The reason Photoshop matches other non color managed applications if you use the ColorMunki profile as document profile, is because you then have effectively disabled color management, so everything will behave identically (but not correctly).
Remember, Photoshop converts from document profile to monitor profile. If they are the same, nothing happens, which is exactly what a non color managed application does: absolutely nothing. It doesn't even matter which profile you use as long as they're the same. The net result is always the same: no color management.
    EDIT: cross post

  • Page background color blends

I'd like to have an overall color blend from a depth of about
200 pixels down from the page top, to the the bottom of my page.
What is the most efficient way of doing this from an solid 99CC33
at the top to no color or (white at the bottom)? The background
color should extend horizontally across the page as well, but the
page blend only from top to bottom???
    thanks
    hartney

Basically make your gradient image in whatever program (5px
width or so, whatever height), then use this code replacing the
background colour with whatever you want your 99CC33 to blend in
    to.
    body { background : #FFFFFF
    url(../images/background-image.jpg) repeat-x;}

  • What is color burn layer?

I was reading one of techniques for removing blue haze from pictures.
The initial two steps were as follows:
    1. Click on your color burn layer
    2. Select all and copy the color burn layer only to the clipboard
I have never used "color burn layer".  So I have no idea what "color burn layer" is and how to create it.
Please asvise me how to creaste color burn layer.
    I have photoshop CS5 (with Windows 7).

It is not a tutorial.   Somebody asked the question in a photo forum.
I now lost the original webpage but I copied the anwer as follows:
Click on your color burn layer
Select all and copy the color burn layer only to the
    clipboard
Open a Hue/saturation adjustment layer but make no corrections just press OK.
Alt click on the Hue/adjustment layers mask this will make the screen go white.
Edit> paste... this will paste the color burn layer to the mask.
We must reverse the mask now so press Ctrl+I or Image>Adjustment>Inverse
Click on the adjustment part of the hue/saturation or Alt click on the mask again.
Now reduce saturation by moving the saturation slider to the left.
My question is how to careate color burn layer in CS5 photoshop.

  • When opening Elements 13 I have a message  The monitor profile "Dell S2340L color profile, D65" appears to be defective. I have a new Dell PC with Windows 8.1?

When I open Elements 13 I have a message. The monitor profile "Dell S2340L color profile, D65" appears to be defective. I have a new Dell PC with Windows 8.1

You can check if the standard Srgb profile has been change.
    Close Elements.
Go to Start menu >> Control Panel >> Color Management.
    Click the Devices tab.
From the Device pop-up, select your monitor.
Check the ‘Use my settings for this device’ checkbox.
Make a note of the currently selected profile, which is marked as (default). If there isn’t an existing profile, you can skip this step.
    Click the Add button.
In the Associate Color Profile dialog, select sRGB IE61966-2.1 (sRGB Color Space Profile.icm) and press OK.
Back in the Color Management dialog, select the sRGB profile and click Set as Default Profile, and then close the dialog.

  • The new nvidia drivers, weird color blending

i tried all the nvidia drivers, but all what comes after the 53.3 have a weird color blending problem, and i can't fix it.
the problem is visibale if u r looking to an image with gradient color, u'll c it as if it's not correctly blended, and this goes weird when u work with photo editing and retouching an image, u'll think that ur work is bad.
i got to fix the prob, temporaly , by accessing the advanced tab of timing, if i just edit any number the colors go ok, once i press ok and apply, everything remain as the original, and the problem is here again.
do u have anysuggestions plz, anyhelp will be much appreciated.

man, what software are u talking about (did i mentioned any test software?)
the problem i'm facing is the color blending in all drivers after 53.3 is not showing right, the gradient still showed degrade and not fully blended, as if u turn ur display to 24 bit, instead of 32bit, but actually the result i get is like the image is displayed at 28 bit
u can't know what i'm talking about , but if u try it by urself, just open an image in photoshop or any editing application, choose any image that have a gradient shown well, and c it, u'll notice that gradient is not fully smooth, it's kind of steped, and to b sure, fill a scratch background by the linear gradient tool (black, white) and c the disaster, there is no smooth intermediate grey section, u'll c steped.
    i hope it's clear dude.
