Color Brushes
In Illustrator I can create a brush from a multi-colored item and apply it to a path. Is this possible in Photoshop? I defined a colored element as a brush but it paints in the greyscale equivalent (or whatever my foreground color is). I know about Color Dynamic but that only allows me to jitter between foreground and background colors.
Thanks

Created a multi-colored brush using pantone colors
Hi, I am trying to create a multi-colored brush comprised of a single pantone color at different opacity settings, i.e. 100%, 75% and 25%. All of the multi-colored brushes I've seen have a variety of different colors, this is not what I need. Is this possible, or perhaps there are already brushes that will allow me to alter the color patterns. I would like to change colors and their respective opacity if possible.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks.
MarkMark,
As I (mis)understand it, you may create an object with the desired colours and transparencies and shape(s), and then turn it into an Artbrush, which will then be stretched to fit the path and adapted in width through the Stroke Weight, or proportionally adapted, depending on your settings. -
Sony Vaio F Series Screen Colors Brushed Out
Hi, Im running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Vaio VPCF235FG, I did windows recovery but the colors seem brushed out. I did update my Nvedia Driver but still same issue. I did some researches on google and I found out it has to do with Monitor LED not getting enough power to give full color depth something like that, but I dont know which driver or software patch I have to download to fix this issue. Please help
Hi Hu22aM,
Welcome To Sony Community!
We're sorry to hear this. I have few questions for you to help me understand what's really going on.
When did it star to happen?
May I know why you needed to do windows recovery? Is this when the computer went back to factory setting?
If so how did you do it, was it using a recovery disc or through the partition ?
Let's try to isolate the issue
Turn of the laptop
Go to BIOS by repeatedly hitting F2 right after you turn it on (was the color brushed out)
If the screen color is the same then it means that it's a hardware issue (repair is needed
If screen if normal, then go to the Sony website and update the drivers and software.

Creating multi-colored brushes in PSE 8
OK, I am having a really hard time finding information on this...maybe because it can't be done, who knows. Maybe you all do, I hope! I am very interested in using Photoshop brushes. I have PSE 8 and I have a general understanding of brushes...I know how to upload, change color, transparency, etc. What I don't know is how do I make a butterfly look like a multi-colored butterfly instead of a pink butterfly or a gray butterfly? I am assuming I need to make several layers, but beyond that I'm lost. I just can't seem to make it look right when I try to color in with different colors. I hope all this makes sense and someone can help.
Thanks in advance! She states it's also for PSE 7, but I would think that would be very similar to PSE 8, but I can't seem to make it work as I don't have the same set up she's describing. If someone maybe could see what she's trying to explain and maybe figure out how to take her instructions and apply them to PSE 8. Usually, I can follow instructions that aren't from PSE 8 anyway, but this one I am having trouble with.

Thank you to everyone!
That particular dialog is in Photoshop not Photoshop Elements so she must have mean't PS7 not PSE7. All she's doing is adding a color overlay layer style so you can replicate that by adding your solid color onto a layer over it (fill layer with color or use a solid fill adjustment layer) and using the butterfly as the base of a clipping mask (clipping group...same thing different name).
Clipping mask tut:
http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/Photoshop_Elements/layers/layer_groups_clippi ng_masks/1_layer_groups_clipping_masks.htm
This will give you a solid colored butterfly. Change the solid color blend mode to color just as she does with the layer style. (Softlight blend mode might also do the trick for you.)
Another option that I think might produce better results would be to clip a gradient map adjustment layer to the butterfly...butterfly again base to the clipping mask...instead of a solid color. Gradient maps color according to the brightness value.
You can pop in a blank layer between the butterfly and the gradient map and use paint (white or black at low opacity...color is unpredictable) to to push the color to the desired result. (Black will map to one side of the gradient and white to the other with shades of gray mapping between these brightness endpoints.)

Color blend mode / Color brush mode doesn't work
Hello,
I have CS3, working on Windows 7/64. For some reason, I cannot get color modes to work. I would like to be able to sample a color from one area, and use a brush set on "color" instead of "normal" to paint. Instead, all it does is darken and make gray whatever color it is trying to brush over. If I try to leave the brush on "normal" but the layer blend mode to "color," nothing at all happens. When I try changing the layer blend mode to anything else, (screen/normal/difference/etc), it works as it is supposed to. Any ideas how I could fix this? Thank you so much in advance!!Hello!
I have the same question, and what are the colors you are trying to paint on and with?
Did you try to reset the brush tool by right-clicking its leftmost icon in the Option bar? -
Is it possible to have a brush size greater than 100 when
using the replace color feature.
I have tried entering a figure manualy but it resets itself
to 100 each time.I'm using Fireworks CS3 (PC). I was able to enter numeric
values, press enter, and get larger brushes. If I enter a value
higher than 899 it ignores it however, but I can enter any value
lower than that. -
I am just working with Photoshop Elements 10 and I seemed to have hit a "brick wall". For one reason or another whenever I use a brush with any color to it, whether it is in "Normal" or "Color" mode, or whether I am on a solid white background, a layer of the very same white background, or a clipping mask with any color background, the color of my brush stoke is hit or miss. One time out of ten it is the color I set in the foreground, nine other times it is a related hue on the color wheel. And if I get the desired color I want on the 1st stroke, without changing anything my very next stroke will be a different color . . . BUT always the next related color in the color wheel. The third brush stroke will be the thrid related color in the color wheel, the fourth will go back to the preslected color. Brush stokes 5 and 6 will cycle through the color wheel. The 7th stroke will be the preselected color again. White, black, or light gray brushes are no problem. BUT when I start using colored brushes I have no control over the colors.
The only hint I can give you is just before I noticed this I was poking around in the Photoshop Color Kuler - https://kuler.adobe.com/create/color-wheel
Up until that point everything was working fine. I am wondering if there was something changed in Elements on me when I was poking around with different color schemes? Would a "Reset Brushes" in the Brush Menu help or really throw me for a loop?
Thanks in advace -
MarkThanks a million Barbara ! ! !
I have no idea how this worked or why it got set to act as it was in "jitter" mode but that is exactly what I needed to do to fix the problem.
Thanks again -

Selective Coloring in Lightroom 4
I just got Lightroom 4 last night. When I was in college, I used Illustrator and, we learned how to do selective coloring. I have no clue what I'm doing in lightroom 4 to do this. The set up is way more intricate than I anticipated. I've searched for videos online and, they are all for older versions of Lightroom and do not work. Could someone PLEASE tell me step by step how to use selective coloring in Lightroom 4??
It works, but you need to desaturate with the adjustment brush.
Use a huge brush and desaturate the entire image.
Then use a small brush and hold alt to delete your mask where you want the color back.
When you globally desaturate, you can't get the original color back, you can only color with the colored brushes. -
Is there a way to make a brush that randomizes the tip shape?
I was asked to make a couple fantasy maps that look hand-drawn. It would be really cool if I could make an isometric mountain brush that puts a different mountain down every time I click it, or a randomized series of mountains along the brush stroke if I need a range. I thought some of the special effect brushes did this, but it turns out they just randomize the rotation in CS6.
On a related note and seemingly more unlikely, is there a way to have a two colored brush that uses foreground and background? If above mentioned mountain brush consists of ink-like lines, it would be useful if the mountains came in already filled so that they cut out the lines of whatever mountain is behind it.
I know, I'm probably dreaming, but it seems plausible enough...
Thanks in advance! -TalayaHello!

Luminosity issue when changing colors
I want to change the color of a building when I use the color change brush the color looks really washed out IE dark red looking pink. It will correct to the right color if I first use the color brush set on luminosity and then use it set to color but I loose the texture of the building. It is changing the picture more than the color is there another way. Thanks
You might look into a technique called frequency separation. This would separate your texture and color into two layers so you can change color without effecting the texture. Here's an example:

Cannot Find Color Black in Color Picker
I would like to use the color black with the Adjustment Brush, but I cannot locate the color black in the Color Picker that appears when I click on the color swatch in the Adjustment Brush dialog. Could anyone give me a clue? In particular, I'd like to create an Adjustment Brush preset that includes painting with the color black. Thanks.
Consider what the color brush does. It it designed to not impact luminance, only tint! So when you brush with a color with saturation 0 (the grey at the bottom), nothing will happen! Only something will happen when you have a color with a certain saturation selected. If you want to lower the luminance of something, use the brightness slider on the brush, or the exposure slider.

I want to take a B & W photo and add color to specific areas? How do I go about doing this?
You can use the color brush. It's no full color , more like waterpainting over a real B&W photo. You can play with other brush settings (exp) at the same time.
This is the effect: -
Randomly variable brush dabs(shapes) within a stroke
Every other painting/ photo editing program do have this feature since their very early versions, only Photoshop don't. For example, If I need to paint some rusted spots on a surface I have to keep a gazillion of different brush shapes in a brush pallet and alternate them by hand. While in other programs I can make just a single brush that would paint random things and even with their own color information or being overlayed by any given color.
That's the reason I use GIMP if I need to paint something and Photoshop only for photo adjusting. Come on Adobe, it's time to borrow this feature from Gimp, and make it work even better.I concur that both features (full-colored Brush Tips and multiple Tips in one Brush Preset) would be beneficial.

Weird black "burn" in brushes when I push down on tablet
Hey everyone,
I'm recieving this wierd, almost pixelated burn in my brush whenever I push down my pen onto my Intuos4 tablet.
It's happening with ALL of my brushes regardless of presets or whatever kind of textures or effects I have on them. This image is from a fresh document, there are no filters or any other effects running. Just a colored brush producing these weird pixels. I'm running Adobe Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7 - Intel Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.90Ghz - 8Gb RAM - AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Let me know if any other info would be helpful. Any information you guys have would be super helpful as this is the most annoying thing ever.I'll leave this up because I solved this "myself" and it might help future generations of dweebs. After realizing that the black pixelization occured in gradients as well, I did some simple searching and found this link:
http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/15540/photoshop-24-bit-image-showing-blac k-pixels-in-8-bit-mode
Apparently it is simply an issue with AMD's drivers for the 7-- HD series and after a quick update the problem went away entirely. -
Is there any way to change the background color an array using a property node?
I can do it using the tools palette and the color brush there.
There does not seem to be anything in the property node.
I am looking for the array control itself, not elements within the array.
ThanksSolved
It is an array of clusters, and I had to link to the cluster element to get a color property.
Thanks
