Color calibration with SpyderPRO2

Question

I want to calibrate my display using Colorvision SypderPRO2. It appears that the only variable function is the backlight control. Is there also control over color temperature, Kelvin etc?

The original question has to do with color adjustments that are done at the monitor before beginning the calibration process, as was done with advanced CRTs. They are not replicated by the Apple calibrator you are talking about. LCDs only have one real control, the backlight. CRTs could have RGB controls because they had 3 phosphors (R, G, and B).
When you use the Calibrate tab, you are doing exactly what the hardware calibrator does, except you are doing it at a far lower accuracy. Human eye calibration is inferior to hardware calibration because the human eye auto-adjusts and is not sufficiently objective for the best calibration. You can't use the controls in the Calibrate tab for the same functions as the advanced pre-calibration controls on a CRT.
To avoid conflicts, you can use the Calibrate tab or a hardware calibrator, but you would never use both. And if you have a hardware calibrator, you'd be a fool to even touch the inferior Calibrate tab.
