Color Can't Reconnect Rendered Media

I'm having some problems with Color 1.5.
Every time I close Color, it looses the rendered media. So if I make changes in one shot, I need to re-render all again. And if I render again, Color create a new render file.
Can I reconnect the rendered media?
PS: The render is not on default color render folder.

A feature of COLOR is automatic re-linking back in FCP (at least it works most of the time). If you need to re-grade a shot, simply re-open the COLOR project, re-work it, add it to the render queue, render that one shot only -- over-ride or deny any options to add or do anything else -- upon completion save and SHUT DOWN COLOR. Do NOT re-send anything. The new grade should appear in FCP upon re-opening that sequence. If it doesn't then you may need to do some manual re-linking, since COLOR is doing some things a little bit differently in this regard with vers 1.5. There is some debate about whether you can leave FCP running in the background or not, which may interfere with the new replacment. Its a "media in use" issue that FCP may attempt to protect the media from being over-written. In that case you will find multiple instances of the rendered clip building up in the grade folder.

Can't reconnect my media

My captions in the video I am making said they were offline all of a sudden and I tried to reconnect the media with the reconnect media button and I even tried to re import the captions and it still says offline and won't work. What should I do to get my media back

If the media has not been created within FCE then the media ia stored on a disc somewhere.
Is the actual media still on that disc and mounted correctly?
Telling us more about the file type of this media will help.

Offline media, can't reconnect

I have a MacBook Pro 17", Mac OSX10.4.11, FCE 4.0.1, Lacie hard drive with firewire.
So close to being finished with this project! Hit the Fire Wire connections and it disconnected from the computer. Only a few items in the timeline were offline. Went through reconnect procedure. Automatically found the files. Hit "connect", but nothing happens to the files. Interesting, some (not all) of the offline clips in timeline are not offline when I go to their "bins", so I deleted and replaced these clips. But I can't reconnect the others. I did try rendering "all" but they are still offline (in timeline and in bins). Would forcing a rebuild using this method http://www.fcpbook.com/Video3.html help or not?
Any suggestions?

I only changed the name of each subclip, as I made it. When I click on the individual offline clips, in my timeline and click to reconnect, the computer takes me directly to the location of the original stored clip, with it's original name. When I click on "choose", it lists it and I have a the choice to click on "connect", but when I do, nothing happens. Just stays offline.
I've worked on several other FCE projects and never had this problem. Feel like I've finally got the program somewhat understood. I have moved on and re-captured the media that was offline. I have pretty much decided, I'm too frustrated to continue using FCE, in the future.

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

Can't reconnect PSD files.

My partner (Final cut Studio 2) send me a project file. We're collagorating on this project. I have FCE 4.5.
I was able to reconnect all the media but he also sent me some layered PSD files. I can see them in the finder, but when I try to reconnect them, I get an error msg "The file does not have enough video tracks to reconnect to stripe at time 00:00:00;00 in sequence "xxxx.psd. Click okay to make this item independent and go to the next clip or Cancel to skip all clips from this file"
I'm still learning this FCE. How can I reconnect these files fo my FCE sees them? All the video clips have been reconnected and rendered and play fine on my MBP except for these PSD files.
There's 3 sets of layered files in the sequence. Should I add more video tracks or shouldn't FCE put in what it needs?

It's in the sequence and on the timeline but showing off line. Anyway Mike said if I re-imported them I'd loose the layers. There's 3 sections, 1st is all the layers, then each of the 2 graphics are seperated one at the begining and one at the end. they're title seq.
He said he'd show me what to do when we meet. See, we each have a copy of the video clips. He does his work in Studio 2 and saves his stuff to his raid. Sends me the project file to open in FCE. So I have to reconnect the files and tell MBP they're on my external LaCie. Everything went good except for those PSD files. All of the info was in the CFP project file plus he sent me the graphics seperately. this is a wierd deal for me!

Reconnecting renders

I rendered a series of speed changes and effects that took about 15 minutes.
After that, I started to make an ajustment to one scene when the program crashed. After relaunching, and reconnecting the media, everything that I rendered appeared unrendered. I clicked on "Reconnect Media," only to find the "render" box unselectable. Any thoughts on how to get FCP to find the renders it already did but doesn't seem to know about?

I've found trying to reconnect render files basically fruitless. Have no idea why...
Are you capturing/rendering to your system drive...profile states Powerbook G4. Do you have an external Harddrive for your media and renders? Using your system drive for media files can cause any number of problems.
Have you just tried re-rendering...does it work that way?

Can't reconnect clips

So I've been working on a project that has about a billion (or so) edits in the timeline - ie lots of work so far:)
Finding my hard drive filling up I copied the Final Cut Pro X project to a new drive (using drag n drop in the Project Library)
Somewhere in the process (not sure how but it's happened now) the Event that contained all the Clips i'm using in the Project disappeared. Now neither the original version of the Project or the new Copy is able to find any media - ie EVERYTHING has the red icon with the exclamation point.
I still have all the original media (a number of MOV files) on my computer and I've tried reimporting them as a new Event. Unfortunately, in spite of the clips being exactly the same (name. duration, format etc) as in the original Project, they don't seem to be recognised in the Timeline (everything is still red and they appear disconnected from the edits in the Timeline (apart from the fact that they still share the same name).
How can I get these clips to reconnect to my heavily edited Project. I'm attempting not to freak out but it's hard!
Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry for chiming in late, but yes there is a way to reconnect a project to moved media. All the information is in Chapter 15 of the User Guide. However, this is my procedure to both make a backup and move media to an external or another internal drive:
In Finder:
Copy all the orignal source files needed to <hdd>:Final Cut Events/
Copy the project file to <hdd>:Final Cut Projects/
Copy the Final Cut Project/<projectname> folder to a new internal drive, making sure the Final Cut Projects folder is at the drive root, or in your <user>/Documents folder - I prefer the drive root. You really only need to copy the "currentversion.fcpproject" file with this folder. All other folders will be regenerated by FCPX.
OPTIONALLY copy the Final Cut Events/<project events>/ folder to the new location. If your original source files are in this folder, do not copy them as well. Again the new "Final Cut Events" folder must be at the drive root or in the "<user>/Documents" folder.
I say this step is optional as FCPX will recreate all the temporary files and aliases stored here as required.
Eject the original media drive to verify the copy is valid.
Reconnect original media:
Launch FCPX.
If the new Event does not show up in the Event Library pane or was not copied in Finder step 4, select an internal drive in the Event Library panel and create a new Event to import the media into. You can create the new event with the same name as the original event or use a different name.
NOTE: FCPX can sometimes not see events created on a removable drive, so I prefer to create all events on a local drive. The actual physical source media can be anywhere, internal or external storage, or in the Final Cut Studio/Capture Scratch folder for that matter.
Import the source media files into the Event created, without selecting the Import>Copy option, but with create keywords from folders option if you have sorted your media into folders (i.e. images, Footage, Music...). Not selecting "Copy Files" will create aliases in the physical "Final Cut Events/<Eventname>/Original Media" folder with the same name as the original source files. The aliases will link to the source media files
Once the import is complete, select the project to highlight it only - DO NOT open the project.
In the Inspector pane, click on the Project Properties button.
Scroll to the bottom of the Inspector, click the "Modify Event References" button.
A Drop down window will be displayed with a list of Events where media in the project is found. Click OK to relink all the media to the project.
Alternatively to steps 6 & 7, if you know all the media for the project is in a single Event, click the Wrench button, and in the popup window, select the "Default Event" from the drop-down list - re Ch 7, page 95 of the user guide.
NOTE: Do not create an Original Media folder, nor put any original content into an existing Original Media folder. This folder is created, populated and managed by FCPX with aliases to the original files (if the Import>Copy Files option is not selected), or original source files imported with the Import>Copy Files option. So, manually putting your files in this folder could be very confusing for you.
NOTE 2 - If you modify an original source media file, then FCPX could possibly not relink the modified file to the project, even though the file's name and physical location has not changed, as FCPX also compares the physical, as-well-as the Meta data properties of a file to verify the file.
NOTE 3 - If a project refers to files in multiple events, then all events with files referenced by the project will appear in Reconnect step 7. FCPX will search the events in top-down order. This is very important to remember as, if there are files of the same name in multiple events, FCPX will try to relink the first occurence of a file name only. To get FCPX to relink to the proper version of a file, drag the event with the proper file version up in the list.
If you do update a file, and FCPX does not relink the new version, then simply grab the updated file from the event browser, and drag the file on top of the broken event in the timeline, and select REPLACE. This will update the event in the timeline using the original event's relative in/out points.

ITunes musical library located on a WD 2TB, ext. drv. Computer destroyed by virus; ED survived. Bought new laptop, connected ED. Not able to see library. ED shows as 'G:' 95% full. How can I reconnect my old library to new laptop?

I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.

Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

I have a MacBookPro, an iPad and an iMac using a wifi connection with an airport extreme base station. Lately I am having trouble with connection time outs. Right now the laptop and ipad are connected okay but the iMac has timed out and I can't reconnect

Just the last week or so (maybe since Apple released a new software update for my Airport, I keep getting kicked off the net and can't reconnect - it doesn't even show my wifi network in the list of available networks. I am considering resetting the airport as detailed in the manual. If I do this will it act as a new one and can I set it up as from the beginning. My Mac is running OSX 10.6.8 and if I try to use the airport setup assistant it tells me i can't use this version of the app with the version of my OS (because I have upgraded my OS ) I assume

If I connect directly to the computer I have a good connection so it is not my ISP

Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.

You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).

Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310.
I had a battery drain problem. The unit would only last 16 hours before completely drained. Purchased a new battery with the same result. I figured that I should try a complete reset so I did a hard wipe. Once that was done and I loaded the unit back up and returned online, the battery drain problem was resolved but now I can not access the media card.
Here are the messages:
“A media card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device”
I can see the files. I have transferred them to my PC via the SD card but I can not open them. Here are the settings:
Media card support – ON
Encryption Mode: - Security Password & Device
Encrypt Media Files – YES
Mass Storage Mode Support – OFF
Please note – I can not change the encryption mode since it is set by policy
Security Options – General Settings – Content Protection – Disabled
The version of Desktop Manage I am using is 4.2.1.8. When I try to use the Media Manager to move the files, I get an error message and can’t move the file. If I access the file on the card and try to display it, I get:
Unable to display file /media card/ pictures/ing000000xx.jpg.rem
Here is what I have tried (from the advice on this board):
1)     Read the files directly off the media card – No good
2)     Create a “new” folder on the media card and move a file into it then try to read it – No good
3)     Email the file then read it – No good
4)     Reset Encryption mode to off then try – Can’t do it – IT Policy setting
5)     Be sure that the password was set the same as before the wipe (setting is password & device) – Can’t do it – The Blackberry prevents me from using an old password.
So I think I can’t read the files because I can’t replicate the encryption key. Could that be right? My problem is that I do not understand why this would be the case. It is still the same device and since it knows what the old password was (because it would prevent me from using it again), why would it not generate a key to access the files?
All I am trying to get off the card are pictures on my 6 year old … some are priceless. Can someone help me do this? One would think that this should not be this hard but from all the postings I have found, it seems that it is. And yes, shame on me for not moving the files before I did the reset (THAT will never happen again!) but this being unrecoverable is unconscionable given how many seem to find themselves in this situation.

Not sure why you couldn't see them using mass storage mode. Did you have the pics stored on your media card? Try going to media-menu-explore-media card-blackberry-pictures See what the extension is on your pics. If any have the extension such as .jpg.rem they are encrypted.

How can I see all media others shared with me?

For the first time, somebody shared a photo with me on Ovi. Wow! - Of course, basically it didn't work. I got a text message on my phone saying that:

When I open this link, I am first asked to input username and password (can't this thing remember me?) - and then I get an error message:

So, they sent a link that doesn't work on their own system. Fine.Doesn't matter, I thought, because now that I'm identified, I can sure browse the mediaI've been given access to. Like open my friend's profile from my contacts and see what he shared. Or whatever.
I didn't find a way to do so. There's no link whatsoever that takes me to media he shared.
Meanwhile, he tried sending me an email from within ovi, and it seems this time it works. I can see the image when I click on the link in this email (the link looks totally different from the one in the text message.) - Still, there's no way for me to come back in a few days (when I deleted themail) and say: "Hey, I remember this guy had a funny photo he shared with me. I want to see it again" - Right?
Or how would I do it?

Well, the person who shared the image is a contact of mine. He was before he sent me the link(s).
Still, when I click on his nickname from my contacts, I see nothing. (I mean, I see some Info, like when he joined Ovi etc., but then there's only:
Recent media
No items available.
Recent albums
No albums available.
Contacts
No contacts available.
Nothing that would lead me to this photo.
I wish I would be in a management position there, for the forst time in my life I feel I want to fire people. A lot of people.

Do you mean that you removed the phone from the 'manage devices' section of your iTunes account ? If you do then that won't stop you being able to purchase items on your phone - you only need to be logged into an account to be able to purchase with it.
If you do mean the 'manage devices' section then you can associate, or re-associate, a device (or computer) by using iTunes Match, or automatic downloads, or redownloading past purchases on it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > iTunes being set 'off' ?

If you are saying that you both have iCloud accounts and use the same icloud ID, then yes, the contacts will be deleted. The idea is that all devices using the same icloud ID are kept in sync. You need to use different IDs. You can keep the same iTunes ID so you can share the songs and apps. But use different icloud IDs.
