Color change on export to PDF

We use an application called Autodoc HSE which relies on hidden text in reports to redirect printed output to email, fax or printer.  It looks for the colour code 254, 254, 254 and anything in this colour is interpreted by Autodoc as a command.
It appears however that when a report is printed from Webi it first goes as a PDF and the colour is rounded to 255,255,255 which is pure white (instead of the off white).
We cannot change the Autodoc command colour for two reasons, firstly because we have so many other systems using this colour and secondly because we could use pure white as a valid colour and do not want that text interpreted as an autodoc command.
Does anyone know how we can force the colour to remain at 254,254,254 when the PDF is created?
I have seen the documents relating to Excel colours but they do not seem to relate to this issue.
Thanks

Hi HuonAqua ,
Can you please check the following SAP Note: -
[Cell background and foreground colors do not retain their shade when exporting a Desktop Intelligence document to PDF |https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361706E6F7465735F6E756D6265723D3131383233333826]
Though it applies to DESKI, I would requst you to check it in both WEBI and DESKI.
If it does not help in fixing the issue, do let us know. Also, please do let us know the exact version of the entire setup of Enterprise at your end.

  • Color changes when exporting to PDF from Apple Pages or Word

When I export to PDF from Apple Pages or Microsoft Word, there is a noticable color shift.
The RGB color values that are 23, 76, 140 in Pages for a medium shade of blue like this but appear as 50, 61, 134 with a decidedly purple cast like this in the PDF.
Has anybody else run into this problem?  Any tips for troubleshooting?

Thanks for the reply.  It was created using Apple Pages. I tried exporting to PDF in two different ways, both with the same result.
    1. Within Apple Pages, one can click File > Export > PDF
    2. The other option is to click Print > PDF > Save as PDF
I also tried this second method with Microsoft Word, and again the color was altered.  Any suggestions that you can provide to resolve this issue will be very helpful.

  • Why does text color change when exporting to PDF?

I have a white background.  In a textbox, I have black text and white text.  When I export to a PDF, the black text stays black but the white text changes to black.  Any idea why that happens?
I have a similar situation with shapes.  I have a black circle and a textbox on top of it.  There is white text in the textbox.  When I export, the white text here also changes to black.  So you can't see it in the PDF (becuase of the black circle).

I do not get the problem.
All text stays the correct color. Black is black and white is white in the pdf.
Are you opening this on a Mac in Preview, or are you opening it in Adobe Acrobat?
I have opened my .pdf (it would have helped if you had posted your problem pdf) in Acrobat on a Mac and that also has opened correctly.
I tried both exporting and printing to .pdf both work in Preview and in Acrobat.
Are you doing something else you have not told us about?

  • Format Changes when Exporting to PDF

I'm using Crystal 12.0 and have an issue very similar to these threads listed below.
While viewing a report on my development machine, all is fine.  I can export to PDF and the formatting is OK.
However, when the report is exported to PDF on the web server, the spacing between some of the text is off.  The spacing is used for a CrossTab cell in a "Display String" that I changed using "Format Field."   All that's supposed to happen here is several spaces are used to move the text under the proper column.
When exporting to PDF on the web, the text moves over to the left like it's missing some of the spaces.  I wondering if the below threads apply to Crystal 12.0.
    Thread:1220516 and
Format Changes when Exporting to PDF
    Thanks kindly for your assistance,
    -Marty

I'm having a very similar problem using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. Everything is perfect when running in VS 2008, it takes the report and exports it to PDF format via VB code. The PDF file is idenitcal to the report. However, when run on the server the one page report (when exported to PDF) gets chopped into ten 4x4 chunks. So the PDF file is 10 pages....its like puzzle pieces of the original.
I've drawn a bunch of lines on the report to look like boxes - perhaps this is causing issues? The font on the report is Arial.
The server has the 10_5 runtime installed and it is set to the same default printer as the development PC. I have been stuck on this for days and would really appreciate any advice you may have.
    Thanks!

  • Color change after exporting from Lightroom

I noticed a drastic color change after exporting a file from Lightroom to a JPEG file today. I have been using Lightroom for a while, and it never happened before. I am assuming that I changed the setting somehow and I cannot find how to fix it.
    Here is the original.
After exporting to a JPEG. The color is so drastically different. I tried both sRGB and AdobeRGB and they turn out to have the same problem.
It is not as clear as JPEG files, but edited files with Photoshop CS5 also looks slightly different viewed on Lightroom.
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me.  Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks everyone for looking into my problem!
    >Can you upload a sample of each
    >* Raw File
    >* XMP Sidecar
    >* Exported JPEG
I somehow can't find XMP sidecar files in my folders.... So instead, I exported the JPEG file to the 2nd JPEG file, hoping you can compare those two JPEG files.
The colors get lighter and lighter every time I export the files. I uploaded those files (RAW, 1st JPEG, 2nd JPEG) on line. I also changed the file samples from the original post because I can't add watermarks.
I checked my flles, but there is no preset applied to the JPEGs.
I am thinking of unistallng Lightroom and reinstalling it and see what happens.
    Thanks!

  • Color separation when exporting a PDF

It's been driving me nuts, ADOBE seems to have forgotten about color separation when using the export to PDF method.  Even quark has this option.
Anyway I was hoping to know if there is a way that I don't know.
    Cheers

You’re asking for fairly archaic things here.
You can put in a feature request but you’d need to explain how this would benefit the entire user base and IMO you’re going to have a rough time doing so.
Bob, it might be archaic, but it's still used a lot in the publishing world.
in the book world, the new trend is for firms to do books in a co-edition format. The idea is to have one firm do all the work (normally in english). But then other firms from other countries and other languages will simply send a PDF of the text ONLY without the colors (cmyk).  So when I export the PDF I only need ONE color. I do not wish to export the whole CMYK.
Do you understand where I am getting from.
So in simplified terms.  The printer has 4 plates for the colours of the book and will simply change a 5th plate to the desired language.
    5000 copies
    CMYK plates
    5th plate: german text
    10 000 copies
    French
exactly the same CMYK plates as german
5th plate: switch to the french plate
    50 000 copies
    English
exactly the same CMYK plates as german
5th plate: switch to the english plate
    and so on....
The cost is greatly reduced for everyone, but we need an option to export the TEXT only.
You will simply say, but have the text in a separate layer. That is true, but in reality, it's not all the files that are built like that and most graphic designers will have the text on a separate spot color instead of a separate layer.  Unfortunately when I receive the file it's too late to do the changes.
I hope I make sense, english is not my first language.

  • Color inconsistencies when exporting to PDF

I've created a file in which I am using a master page with a graphic inside a frame; this appears on every page of my document. however, when I export it to pdf (interactive or print), the graphic changes color on two pages - it becomes lighter:
    (correct color on the left)
there are no text boxes or other frames on top of this graphic, though there is text and other images placed on the page. As a test, I deleted an image (while leaving another image, as well as text) from one of the pages this is occuring on, and when I exported it, it went back to normal. So, I placed a new frame, re-inserted graphic, and I'm back to the same problem again.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance -

Thanks for the reply.  It was created using Apple Pages. I tried exporting to PDF in two different ways, both with the same result.

  • Colors change when saving to PDF from InDesign

I admittedly don't understand color handling, no matter how much I seem to read about it. Lately my files that I've been exporting to PDF from Indesign have looked slightly different and odd to me once they're converted to PDF. Sometimes the colors are dull, sometimes the drop shadows are a weird grey... Here's the latest example. Perhaps someone has some wisdom for me here...
I created this poster in Illustrator. Here's how it looks in Illustrator:
Then I went into Indesign and linked the file. (this is strange...) When I display the file with "typical display", it displays as such:
That looks pretty good... But when I set the display to "high quality display", I get this:
This is also the result I get when I open the exported file in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Why the color change?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Will...
So, upon investigating, I realized that my color space in Illustrator was RGB... Damn... I must have overlooked that... When I convert (in Illustrator) to CMYK, I get those strange colors again.
When I export to PDF, the Output is "no color conversion", so it's not being converted to CMYK yet...
Plus, I just linked the AI files in Indesign when I placed them in there.
So, Indesign must be converting the file to CMYK? And that's why the colors change once I convert to PDF? What do you think?
Also, I used InDesign to place the files so that I could create a 2-page pdf easily that the printer could work with. I had a 4-up handbills page in there that I was planning on printing as well.
So, if this looks best in RGB, what do you think about me sending an RGB file to the printer and then printing it that way? I've been told that RGB is no good for printing, but I've also read otherwise as well...
    Thanks again!!

  • Why does object sequence change once exported to PDF?

I have a two-page spread that shows exactly how I want it to in Preview.  But once I export to PDF the sequence of the objects has changed (blocking an object that needs to be on top).  I can see the object when the pdf is opened, but just for a second.  I don't know if this is an InDesign problem or an Acrobat problem.  I'm using CS4 and exporting to Acrobat 8.
In the file "Step" and "Out" should be on top.  "Step" gets covered up, but "Out" does not.

This is the cross-spine bug. You have four choices:
    1) Take this back to CS3.
    2) Reconstruct things on your master spread so that text boxes don't cross the spine.
    3) Move the problematic cross-spine elements off the master onto a live page.
    4) Wait for a patch. A number of people have been bit by this, but the only reports I've seen have been quite recent, all in the last few months.

  • AI graphic placed in ID CS4 doc changes when exported to PDF

    Hi,
I'm attempting to export a 6-page ID CS4 document to PDF, and am having inconsistencies in how the graphics look once they're exported.
I am linking to the exact same Illustrator file when placing the logo on each page, but when I export to PDF, only two of the logo images come out accurately (like below):
The other four come out with an additional black and red outline (like below):
I'm at a loss as to why these outlines are appearing.   Does anyone have advice on what kind of newbie mistake I'm making, here?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Laura

Thanks for all the help - I am definitely willing to work to find the answers!
Bob - I'm viewing the PDF in Acrobat Pro.  I'm not sure how much detail you need in the export settings, but the Export Layers option is set to Visible Layers.  I tried exporting with the other two options and the problem still exists.
Eugene, Peter & Jeffrey - I went to the Illustrator file and found some extra colors in there.  I removed them, thinking that would solve it, but when I relinked and exported it did the same thing.
I just did a test print, and it actually prints correctly - it's just during the viewing of the PDF where the problem occurs.

  • Color change when exported

Using Lr4.1 on PC w/ win7pro laptop with external NEC multisync mmonitor-calibrated,  I've taken Raws made LR adjustments, then imported 3-10 images into photoshop layers for masking, merges, few if any color changes.  Then save as all layers as a psd, then flatten the psd and save as a tiff.  When I open in LR for any other minor tweaks, sharpening, dust spots, and do an export into SRGB or Adobe rgb, the colors are terrible.  Look nothing like what I see in LR.  I've heard people have minimal issues, but I am having major changes,  many times the collors will become dull and flat or very saturated when viewed.  As an architectural photographer I need these colors close to what I took.   If I edit in CR into PS I don't have this problem.  I assume its related to the prophoto RGB color changing, but I really don't know what's going on with the color space.  The color will appear different from my laptop monitor to the NEC by a lot which I understand a pro monitor will show more colors, but the color space shift is making a lot of work done in LR useless if I have to redo it all in CR.  How can I get LR to export the colors I see in LR into a srgb jpg and Adobe tiff?
    Thanks

    Lots of steps here:
"Using Lr4.1 on PC w/ win7pro laptop with external NEC multisync mmonitor-calibrated,  I've taken Raws made LR adjustments, then imported 3-10 images into photoshop layers for masking, merges, few if any color changes."
How do you get them into PS?  What do you mean by "imported 3-10 images into photoshop"?  Do you mean you use "Edit in.." from LR, and choose "Open as layers in Photoshop..."?
"Then save as all layers as a psd, then flatten the psd and save as a tiff."
How does it look in PS?
"When I open in LR for any other minor tweaks, sharpening, dust spots"
How do you open in LR?  The normal process, after "Edit in..." is that you save in PS, and the image is automatically stacked in LR against the original (or one of the originals, if you open several by "Open as layers in Photoshop...").  How does it look now?
"and do an export into SRGB or Adobe rgb, the colors are terrible.  Look nothing like what I see in LR."
Only now they look terrible?  They looked OK in LR originally, OK in PS, OK when back in LR, but when you export they look bad - is that right?  And as Victoria says, how are you viewing the exported images?
"I assume its related to the prophoto RGB color changing, but I really don't know what's going on with the color space."
It certainly shouldn't be due to colour space changing.  The whole point of colour management is that it deals with this.
Final points:  you say your monitor is calibrated.  You do mean calibrated and profiled with a hardware instrument (Spyder, Colormunki etc)?
And, color settings in Photoshop, they should look something like this:
Choice of working space should be ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB or sRGB, but not a monitor or printer profile.  Policies should all be "Preserve" and I recommend all the "Ask When" boxed be checked (so you are warned of mismatches).

  • Font color changes when exporting to quicktime

    Hi,
I'm creating some animated text via LiveType; importing into FCE; and then exporting either as mpeg-4 (for youtube) or directly as a quicktime movie (to see supposedly the best video).
The font colors look the same between LiveType and FCE; however, when I export to quicktime (as a quicktime movie) or to mpeg-4 (h.264 encoder), the font colors look washed out. Both the .mov and .mp4 look about the same. So, I went back to LiveType and cranked up the intensity of these colors (looking pretty saturated in LiveType and FCE). When I repeat the export, the colors are still washed out compared to what I see in FCE and LiveType; but they are now probably acceptable in quicktime and web viewing.
Is anything thing I can do to make the font colors more consistent between FCE and an exported quicktime or mpeg-4 file? Can anyone suggest another converter that might be better at preserving font color? I've tried plain mpeg-4; h.264; etc.
    tia.

  • Problem - Hyperlinks change on export to PDF

Working in Indesign 7.0.3 and Snow Leopard 10.6.5
I have been asked to design a publication that will include hyperlinks to other files (PDFs and Word documents) on the client’s network.
The client has supplied as the source a Word document with hyperlinks that start with:
\\Nwfileprintvm\vol1\shared\...  and so on which (I presume) goes to a document on their network.
When I import the Word document into InDesign, the hyperlinks come in the same way. I have set up the hyperlinks as “Shared Destination” links, as there will be several separate links to the same destination in the InDesign document.
However, when I export the InDesign document to its final form as a PDF, the hyperlinks in the PDF are somehow automatically prefaced with a location on MY local hard drive (my working folder for the document). They become:
File:///Volumes/LaCie750/… and so on until they pick up the rest of the file path starting with \\Nwfileprintvm … as above.
I am exporting using [Smallest file size] since the PDF will be viewed on screen, and with “Include Hyperlinks” ticked.
So, if I deliver this PDF to the client, it looks like it will try to link back to my hard drive, rather than their network drive.
What am I doing wrong? How can I export a PDF where the links point to the client’s network rather than my local drive?

Yes, the hyperlink is defined correctly, without the preceding code linking to my hard drive.
In the hyperlink panel the full path is:
    \\Nwfileprintvm\vol1\shared\Business Development\Program Support\Ten things.doc
When I export to PDF, the link becomes:
    file:///Volumes/LaCie%20750/Work%20in%20progress/New%20work/Project%209999%20NewProject/\\ Nwfileprintvm\vol1\shared\Business Development\Program Support\Ten things.doc

  • Color change on exporting from lightroom and saving in Photoshop CS5

I have been having issues with my pictures with color management.    I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I thought over the last 2 years that it was just me.   I have bought a Eizo monitor with a hood, calibrate with a i1display pro, painted my walls gray, updated my strobes from alien bees to elinchrome bxri's.   Updated my sekonic meter to a L 758.   Have done custom white balance with gray card, expodisc, xrite kits.   The problem has been over the years when I work on a picture in lightroom and export it as jpeg or adobe rgb it gets saved to my external hardrive and the colors are really bad !!   You can go back and compare the picture in lightroom to the picture on my iomega external drive and there is a significant difference.   I do some animal photography and I had a dog that had brown fur and when I export it out of lightroom the dogs fur is actually a bright very orange color.  Same thing happens with skin tones.     When I import the photos into lightroom the pictures look ok.       The same thing is happening when I go from lightroom to photoshop the picture color looks good but when I go to File-save as - tiff or jpeg the colors are changing.   It does not matter what color space I am in I have tried them all it is still happening.    If anyone has any insight that would be great.

Thanks everyone for the help.   I have only been doing photography for about 2 years and the color managment part has been my hardest thing to get right.   My monitor ColorEdge CG243W LCD.   Wide color gamut of 98%.  Has a sensor on front of monitor that detects ambient brightness but this will only work if you are in a custom color mode.  Modes are: custom,  sRGB,DCI,EBU, Cal1.   I use the Cal 1 to be able to use the Colornavigator software that came with the monitor.  You also have to be in custom color mode to be able to manually adjust brightness, contrast, temperature on the monitr itself which I do not use because I use the Cal 1 mode.   I was not sure about the digital input signals.   I am on the DVI-I in which this allows digital signal input and analog signal input.    There is a DVI-D mode that allows only digital input only.    Also did not know if I needed to be concerned about setting the frequency that corresponds to the grahic board in the monitor ?    My bandwith was set to normal and now is on wide.   My digital input is for 1920x1200 resolution.   Appicable signal is Vesa CVT RB.  Frequency is 60 Hz.   Yes I did call Eizo twice last year when I got my monitor and did not get very far.     I have also called and spoke to a color specialist at my lab and told him the problems I have been having and he just told me to leave everything in sRGB.   Well I would like to get the most from my monitor's color gamut and when working on my pictures so that is why I am still determined to get this figured out.
I use the i1 Dislpay Pro hardware to calibrate with and the ColorNavigator software.     When calibrating.   I go to create a new target---select enter manually--Gamut ( monitor native--states recommended)--Brightness 100cd---White point (6500k)--set black level (recommemded states mininum 0.2)---gamma 2.20---priority (set automatically to standard, this adjusts gray balance while maintaining the contrast)---then I hit calibrate and it goes through the process.   The results I get are:                                            Target                                               Result
                          Brightness                                        100cd                                              99.9cd

  • Why can't I include a color profile when exporting to PDF?

I've a basic RGB illustrator file - no embedded or linked images, just flat colors and gradients.
I'm working in sRGB space and this is reported correctly in the info field at the lower left of the editing window.
    Some issues:
    1. When I look at this file in Bridge it's listed as 'untagged'.  However if I re-open it in illustrator it's reported to be sRGB as expected.
    What's broken here?
    ...and of more immediate concern:
    2. Despite requesting 'Include All Profiles' on the output page of the PDF save dialog I cannot get a PDF exported that includes the sRGB profile.
Same issues in both CS6 and CC - Windows 7, 64.
    Thoughts, comments or suggestions welcomed....
    Thanks

Your .pdf is fine, if you open the .pdf in illustrator, adn hten do edit >> assign profile, this radio biutton will bo on what the profile. Also in the bottom left of illustrator you can see what color profile your document is saved with, btuy turning that on.
Hold down option adn you will get other fun easter egg options
Bridge only seems to show profiles for certain bitmapped formats, except .psb format.
