Color changes between CS2 and CS4 opacity with effects turned on

Howdie.
I don't run into issues much with Photoshop, and this one has me stumped.
I needed to drop back to CS2 in order to use a warp mesh plugin.  I saved out a small portion of a file that I created in CS4 (Only containing the layer I needed to warp) and then opened that file in CS2, turned off all the effects (drop shadow, inner glow, bevel & emboss), and applied the mesh warp, then saved the file.  I went back into CS4 and re-opened it there and copied its layers into the bigger, original file.  What is strange is that the colors were a LOT lighter than they should be when compared to the original unwarped layer.  So in an attempt to figure out what was wrong, I checked all of my layer opacities, filter settings, layer mixing mode, etc. and everything was exactly the same.  I even tried deleting the layer style and copying the layer style from the original layer...no change.  I turn off the effects and check the color of the object and it reads the same as the original layer.  Both layers have no semi-transparency in the colors.  I turn the effects on and it is all whacked out.  After a while, I figured out that the problem was that the layer opacity in the effects, although reading the same between both layers (70%), is behaving as if it should be at 90% opacity in the new layer in order to match the original.  Its as if the layer worked on in CS2 has brought with it some corrupted info in its definition, that never leaves and affects any Effects you try to apply to it.
Has anyone experienced this one before?

A liitle bit more info here.  Apparently, the pixel data for the warped parts screws with the effect, Inner Glow, in the Choke and Size sliders.  The sliders simply quit functioning and have an abrupt light/dark toggle effect roughly near about value "7".
The only way I could fix the problem was to do this convoluted solution, since Duplicate Layer does not work.
    1.  Clear the effects on the problem layer.
    2.  At this point you can either work on the problem layer directly or duplicate it to create a work layer.  Doesn't really matter because both layers will get deleted later anyway.
    3.  With Channel Mixer, and for EACH color channel CMYK, move all 4 sliders hard left, so that the result is 0/0/0/0 for the CMYK values  (Do NOT use Brightness & Contrast in place of Channel Mixer because you will lose any blurred edges.  Also, using Channel Mixer does not swell or choke off the pixels along any "floating" shapes' edges).
    4.  With the selection tool, create two small selection boxs at two opposite corners of the entire layer.  Fill them with any color.
    5.  Select the entire layer (CNTL + A on a PC), and copy it to the clipboard.
    6.  Create a new Alpha channel and Paste.  The little boxs at the opposite corners of the file were needed to precisely position a copy of the layer when we Paste it into the new channel.  The contents of the channel must be exactly registered with where the original shapes were in the problem layer.
    7.  If you want, you can now delete the boxs in the corners of the channel by filling them with black.
    8.  Create a new layer and load the selection (the channel) we just created.
    9.  Fill it with the desired color.
    10.  Copy the desired effects from the original layer before warping was done and to the new layer we just created.
    11.  Delete the old problem layer.
    12.  Done.

  • Color differences between LR and CS4

I've recently switched from PC to MacbookPro and installed latest versions of Lightroom and CS4. I do most of my editing in Lightroom and sometimes export to Photoshop. I noticed that there is a huge difference between the colors in Lightroom vs the colors in Photoshop even with NO editing done at all when I firt import to Lightroom. I import my raw files into Lightroom, do no editing, reset the files to ensure no editing, and then export into Photoshop and the image looks totally different color wise. Any ideas as to why?? My color settings are all set to srgb consistanty amongst all the 2 systems. Any other thoughts on what could be causing this? THanks

    >I change the color working space in PS from my monitor profile (Eye One display tool-generated) to ProPhotoRGB, which is apparently what LR uses.
You NEVER EVER want to use the monitor profile as the working space. The only exception is when you make small graphics (i.e not photographs) for websites that need to match CSS code. Photoshop needs to be setup as the first image in
this link i.e. using a standard workingspace (mostly sRGB, adobeRGB, or prophotoRGB) and to respect all embedded profiles.
    >In other words, if I use the calibrated monitor profile in both the system preferences color profile (i.e., on my MacBook Pro) and in PS, the PS and LR images don't match. I'd really love to solve this problem, or determine what I don't understand here. Thanks, Mitch
Photoshop does not need to be told about the monitor profile. It already automatically converts everything you see to it since it knows the monitor profile by simply asking the system software. What you see in your case is that Lightroom (or ACR if you use the RAW photoshop integration) correctly exports the image in a standard color space (whatever you choose in Preferences) and then you have set up Photoshop to completely disregard this fact and treat the image as if it was in the monitor profile. This is not a good thing to do.

  • Color change between copy and paste

    Hi,
when I draw a rectangle or any other shape in Pages and give that objet a color (RGB: 175,217,82) and I copy and paste that objet, the color of the copied object does change to (RGB: 188,219,108). Copying the copied object stays the same (RGB: 188,219,108).
This unwanted color-change is very annoying! Help, what am I doing wrong?
    Best regards.
    Maurice

    Maurice,
There is a difference between the RGB color assigned to the object and the color you measure when you probe the screen area of the object with the color picker tool. I presume this has something to do with the screen driver's attempt to balance the colors or something. (Not an expert here, just observing.)
There hasn't been a change in color, just a difference between the assignment and the measurement. Trust the color swatch of the Fill tool, not the measurement tool.

  • Logo color changing between Illustrator and Premiere

I'm trying to import an .esp file into Premiere, but the color changes drastically from Illustrator to Premiere. Any suggestions on how to make it look more like the original?

CMYK originally, then I converted it to RGB in Illustrator. Both modes looked like the same too-happy blue in Premiere.

  • High ISO color changes between LR and PS?

So I came across this anomaly after taking some test shots. There's a pretty drastic shift in colors when I bring a high ISO RAW from LR into PS and then save it to bring it back into LR. This file hasn't been edited, just saved as a tif through PS. Changing my working profile does nothing, and I don't think it's calibration related because it doesn't happen with my lower ISO (3200-) pictures. What I do know is it's being converted from 24 bit to 48 bit depth and changing color representation from sRGB to uncalibrated. From researching, I understand that the file info stating 'uncalibrated'  just means that there is an embedded profile (which is what LR shows). Something is going on, but my attempts to fix it haven't worked. I've tried adjusting profiles (LR/PS are matched btw), assigning profiles, converting to profiles, and my monitor is callibrated. In detail, here is the issue I'm seeing:
LR RAW > PS TIF - everything is awesome > TIF LR - goes bad
Re-import tif edit to PS - everything is awesome again
Export tif edit from LR to JPG - looks like it does in LR (bad)
Export same tif edit from PS to JPG - looks like it does in PS (perfectly fine)
I just can't wrap my head around why this is only happening with high ISO images. Originally I suspected my monitor profile, but can't see how that would make sense if everything below 3200 ISO looks perfect between both programs. Is the tiff doing something with the noise? Is LR missing some information in the tiff? Is this to be expected? It basically seems to be diluting the contrast/vibrancy, which is easy enough to fix, but a bit of an annoyance anyway.

That's what I was trying to show with my examples. The issue I have with this is the reliance of having to use it to get identical colour results. I don't necessarily want to remove noise that I don't find is all that visible in the first place (without pixel peeping). I get okay results with milder luminance noise removal and extreme sharpening, but it's still something I don't think should *have to* to be done in every high ISO image.
Even when shooting below ISO 3200 where this LR anomaly doesn't occur  you should be applying both Color and Luminance NR. My 21Mp full-frame Canon 5D MKII "default" NR setting is Luminance 0 and Color 15, and at ISO 3200 I typically use Luminace 25 and Color 25, or higher. Feel free to change any of your default settings in LR using Develop> Set Default Settings on the toolbar. You can also create Develop Presets for 'High ISO' images using Develop>New Preset. Make as many as you need based on your shooting needs. You can also quickly adjust one (1) image file and apply a unique NR setting across all the images shot at the same high ISO setting using Settings>Copy Settings and Paste Settings or 'Sync' button at the bottom of the Develop tools panel. Check just Noise Reduction>Color & Luminance in the Synchronize Settings' panel. And yes, a 1:1 (100%) view is the only way you should be making NR and Sharpening adjustments in LR.......they will only look better at lower view settings.

Stubborn, maybe? I try to shoot below 3200 as well, but it's nice to be able to keep my options open when need be and know I won't run into oddities like this when it comes to editing. Am I asking too much?
IMHO - Why not properly use these tools in LR all of the time, since it can be done for you almost automatically.

  • Color changes between Lightroom and Photoshop Elements

I have a new monitor and I have the SyderPro4 calbration software.  My monitor is the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM.  When calibrated with the Syder my colors are different when I go into different programs.  The same photo looks different in Lightroom than it does in Photoshop Elements. When I export the picture from Lightroom to Elements the picture becomes very orange. I have already talked to Dell and to Datacolor about my issue and they both are telling me this shouldn't be happening. When I uninstall my calibration software my problem goes away, and the colors of the images stay consistant between the two programs. Does anybody have any advice to what maybe wrong?

How do you export to Elements? Directly from Lightroom? If so, what profile are you choosing? What resolution are you specifying? I normally use proPhoto RGB which is the profile that LR more or less uses internally and 330.

  • Color Issues between CS3 and CS4

Color Issue - Opened in CS3...looks fine; I then opened in CS4 and what
was grey in CS3 is now brownish in CS4.
Any ideas about what this is or how to fix?

Sorry, actually, there was a thread up a ways and someone was having the
exact same issue. It was my color profile. I just deleted the default
    and used Adobe 1998...
With that said, I am CERTAIN that in not too much longer, I will run

    in my brain..

  • Speed change between CS3 and CS4?

    Hi...
I heard that AECS4 is more speedy that CS3... like effect are in real time now...
    is it true?
    Thanks...

    >Maybe CS5?
I don't think it would be a favorable model. The beauty of AE is, that it just allows so many different workflows and once you commit yourself to a specific, hardware-dependent way of working, you loose that. That's the biggest failure in Motion - complex stuff is simply not possible, because the hardware acceleration eventually gives up and then, without it, it's a lot worse than AE. AE should simply render faster and more efficient, so it takes less time to build the previews and it should have smarter ways of keeping cached data (like not loosing the disk cache frames when exiting the program). Once that works, you could think of ways to adjust interactively during looping RAM previews for instance, which achieves the same goal, but with much greater flexibility...

  • Difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images, percentage not kept

There is some kind of difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images. The images I've dealt with right now were vector images but it might apply to all kinds of images.
When replacing an existing image, the CS4 behaviour is to let the image fill up the frame. In CS3 the percentage was set to 100% as default (the % you see when selecting the image, not the container).
Also when replacing an impage in CS4, the "inner" image frame is kept, while in C3, the percentage was kept.
Is there some kind of placement preferences / settings to let CS4 act the same wat as CS3 did, when placing an image?
    -- Andreas

Yes, the behavior was changed in CS4 (and many users, like me, prefer the new system).
If you click and drag a loaded image place cursor the entire image will be be scaled to fit the proportionally drawn frame -- a huge timesaver if you mostly place uncropped art. If you want 100% of the image at 100% scale, just click and release -- same as before, or as before you can pre-draw a frame and place into it and your image will come in cropped at 100% (unless you've changed the fitting options for the frame before placing).

  • I have tried downloading photoshop cs2 and cs4 on a new computer.  I have the disc available for cs2 and the serial number for cs4.  They are both registered in my name.  I need help doing a download.

I have tried downloading photoshop cs2 and cs4 on a new computer.  I have the disc available for cs2 and the serial number for cs4.  They are both registered in my name.  I need help doing a download.  I was able to get part way through cs4, it showed up in my downloads but never got as far in the process as to ask for serial numbers.  I tried with cs2 and I got an error message that some bit of information was incorrect.  I currently have both downloaded on two other lap tops I own.  One is operational and one is dead.  I cannot access the dead one to remove the program. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

For CS2 you will need to download a special new version

  • DM3.0 EA2: Filter engineering changes between logical and relational model

    Hi,
when I am engineering changes between logial and relational model there are some issues at filter handling for me:
    - When the filter "Show Modified Objects" is activated, the filter works only on the first level, e.g. on Entity level. On attribute level all attributes are displayed, not only the attributes which have really been modified. It is possible, to show on every level only the really modified objects?
    - I think, selecting a Filter condition is circuitous. All filter conditions except "Show All Objects" keeps activated when I choose another condition. So I have to deactivate "Show Deleted Objects" when I want to see only the modified objects. It is possible to choose another control element for filtering, e.g. disjunctive radio buttons?

  • Color shift between play and pause

    Hello,
On CC 7.0 and 7.1, I noticed there is an important color shift between pausing and playing my timeline when using "CineForm Visually Perfect" encoded source material.
This is especially noticeable on reds.
Using other codecs, there is no such shift.
My video card is a Geforce 650M. At first, I thaught it might be related to the video overlay settings of the card, but there are no such settings in the control panel.
Besides, using Quicktime to play the source produces no shift as well.
As I am often doing color correction using Premiere, and as I have dropped Avid exactly because I always had this same problem (when using a profiled calibrated screen), I would like to know precisely what is going on. As I'm regularly producing shows for broadcast, it is a real problem not to be sure whether what you see matches the final exported output in all circumstances.
NB : For the need of searching the cause of this problem I disabled any custom profiling of my screen.
    Thanks ! for any answers.
    Fred

Sure and thanks. But nevertheless, if you color correct using a calibrated screen, and produce for the web ; or if you do a first pass of color correction before the ultimate pass happens with a "properly calibrated TV", wouldn't you like that your paused frame would look like your playing frame ?

  • CS2 and CS4 on same computer?

Hello! I hope this has not already been asked and answered but I did honestly try to find an answer and failed. Anyway:
    Mac with CS2 currently installed.
QUESTION: If I buy the CS4 upgrade, can I install it and have both CS2 AND CS4 running on the same computer? Not necessarily simultaneously...just be able to launch one or the other.
If yes, where might instructions for such an installation be?
    Thanks a bunch.
PS. I tried downloading a trial version of CS4 from Adobe website and could not get their "special" downloader to work. Tried Safari and Firefox. Is there some special trick?

    It is too easy.
I can't make myself get rid of ID2 and IDCS, though I no longer use them (or IDCS2) for production.
