Color & cineform hd codec
Hello. I have a short film in cineform hd format, and I am trying to send it to color. I've never used the program before now. Does it normally take ages to send? I'll tell it what to name it, and then color pops up with all the windows, and a little box that says "importing FCP XML..." I left it alone for two hours and it was still doing this. I thought it might be too long, so I'm trying 10 seconds worth of video, but it is still not finishing the import.
Will it not work with the cineform hd codec? Do I need to convert to Pro Res and then send to color?
I have a high-res macbook pro, 4 G memory. The version of Color is 1.0.1
Color doesn't work with the Cineform codec even though you have the QT extensions installed on your mac and it plays back fine in QT, FCP, AE, etc
The fact that the project doesn't open from FCP when you "send to Color" after you transcoded to ProRes points to some other problem. I'm using the same workflow for a film shot in Cineform, transcoded to Prores (HQ) and color correcting in Color. It works just fine.
How are you sending your project to Color?

How to install CineForm AVI Codec for CS6 and CC2014
I have installed Premirere Pro CS6 as well as CC 2014 and GoPro Studio [Free] / [all latest download on 2 Apr 2015] .
Operating System Windows 8 Pro - 64bit
i have failed to see and use Cine Form AVI option for export for intermediate conversion. What i can do is under Format - Quick Time / CineForm RGB 12 Bit and YUV 10 bit only. nowhere i can find the CineForm AVI option.
any assistant will be appreciated a lot.Dear Todd_Kopriva
thanks for reply, i have already sorted out the matter by reinstalling the product under Adobe Directory. [before it was installed in Adobe CS6 / Adobe CC directory].
i need to export files to AVI format and not Movie [Quick Time] format. that is the reason i need AVI codec.
Thanks again -
Exporting using Cineform Codec
Does anyone have experience with the Cineform Codec? I need to export a bunch of 1080/30F HDV footage out by using the Cineform codec. I've never used it before and was wondering if can be directly through FCP or if it will need to be through Compressor or what...
This will need to be exported directly from FCP. However there are a couple of things to note.
1.) The Cineform Export Codec must be purchased. Importing and viewing is free.
2.) Cineform for the Mac only works with FCP 6 EDIT:(not FCP 5).
3.) If any pulldown work needs to be done, that work will need to be done with the Windows version of Cineform.

AME and Premiere CS5 + Cineform HD - very slow HD encoding
Hi all
This is my 1st post here, it is rather lenghty but I will try to give as much detail and hope someone can shed some light on my issue.
Also, please comment if a better worlkflow can be recommended.
I'm using PP CS5.03, Win 7 SP1 64bit, i7-2600K @4.6Ghz, 16Gig DDR3 1600, GTX580 - Mercury enabled in PP, 3disk 7200RPM Raid0 array for source footage and scratch disk, a 2disk 7200RPM Raid0 array for exported files.
My encoding seems to take forever as AME only uses 30% of my CPU, 7gigs of ram is currently being used by the entire system for the encoding - i'm sure this is not right, i have tried every other setting with no luck. When i use AME on its own to convert raw footage to a different format it use 90-100% CPU and rendering is done in no time.
I have a very long film 3hrs:32mins that I need to export to mpeg2 HD 1920x1080 25fps. (I need to make a preview file for the client that will take the least time to encode with reasonble "small" file size - estimate size for this project is 24GB) - other reccommendations with different formats, similar quality, small file size and minimum encoding time will be appreciated - must also be playable on PS3)
The source footage was 25fps shot with 4 5DMkii cameras, all footage was converted to Cineform HD codec, 10bit uncompressed.
PP sequence is Cineform 1080P with Max Bit and Max Render enabled (I always turn these on). I prefer to use the Cineform codec as loading large projects is very quick; near instant on my system opposed to using the native MOV 5D files - PP always seems to hang with the MOV files and when I clicked outside of the PP work area and back PP hangs and there's a waiting period - very annoying; since using the Cineform codec this issue is gone.
Plenty of the footage was fixed in AE - stabilizing, color corection, etc.. and rendered to Cineform HD codec to match my project. Rendered files was imported back into PP and linked footage was replaced with the AE rendered clip. All other effects on timeline has been rendered in PP, timeline bar displays green and yelow.
When I export my project using Media Encoder 5.01 it does not use all the system ressources, 30-40% CPU , see screenshot here with a 80% spike now and then and drops down to 30% again, (don't think this is normal either) 7-8GB ram max, I also noticed that my GPU has a 20% load during export. I don't mind waiting 3hrs or less to render but 10hrs +?? Can it be the Cineform codec slowing things down? I NEED this CPU to run at max to speed up this process, any help? On short test I've done from PP to AME with the smae settings the render is very fast when the CPU is fully loaded. Am I doing something wrong with this large project? When I render out my 3.5-hour project, I have noticed (by watching Process Explorer's graphs) that AME will "scan" all of my assets, presumably to make sure none of them changed or that the audio still conforms (or maybe that's when it conforms the audio). I don't know why it does this, but when the scanning is done, THEN my CPU lights up like a christmas tree and the actual work begins. This initial scanning can eat up 10-15% of the total time, and slower drives would compound it.
I noticed the audio conforming process in the beginning which takes up about 6-7mins of the rendering process and CPU processing only starts after that - I agree and i'm fine with that.
If you have a REALLY fast I/O subsystem, like a RAID-0 with 3 or more drives (I seem to recall your rig was capable of 400MB/s), have you tried rendering to an uncompressed format like UYVY (should be in the Uncompressed AVI group)? And was that any better?
I have rendered to uncompressed HD formats before; AVI, Cineform - but with ridiculously large file sizes - 5mins footage will be something like 14-15GB. I dont see the point in that for my final output. I will do a test with the UYVY format and see what results I can come up with.
My RAID 0 setup is pretty fast at the moment, this will be upgraded later to 3X Vertex3 SSD's in RAID-0 for some serious I/O speeds.
I use the latest version of the CineformHD codec, which is not slow at all, but I only convert my RAW files to this for easier workflow and export to mpeg2 HD and h.264 for my BluRay projects.
Anyway, I "think" I might have found the problem to my large project slow render - maybe I was at fault, but don't know, please advise if you think my editing skills need some fine tuning...
We shoot with 4 cameras, so I start with 4 video tracks and up to 10 audio tracks for external sound.
I just deleted the extra unused video clips on the timeline which was either turned off via "enable" option or i had a video clip placed above an unused clip.
Removing the unused clips required me to re-render certain clips or effects that has been rendered before - I just rendered the first 15mins of the timeline and noticed a HUGE improvement when I exported using the same preset as before.
before: 15mins of the project took 32mins to render including the 7mins audio conforming in the beginning. (this was before i made the project changes)
now: i added the sequence to AME, closed PP and free up the ram that PP was using and started the AME quee - 15mins of the the total project now only took 19mins including the 7mins audio conforming. That means the video rendering took 12 mins to render 15minutes of footage - 3.5hrs of footage should take just under 3hrs to render if everything runs smoothly. I'm currently rendering the rest of the timeline previews and will export the entire project after that. Will post my results - at least i'm smiling for now
Question - could the unused footage on the timeline have been the cause for my longform slow render?
Is it standard practice to just remove unused clips from the timeline? I have always just disabled the unused clips and never really noticed any issues with smaller projects. I guess I will be making changes to my workflow in the future. -
Anyone using GoPro Cineform Studio as free substitute for Neoscene?
Folks,
I've not been reading here for several months, so please excuse me if I repeat a prior thread. I did a search and didn't find one spot-on.
GoPro, makers of that small fixed-focus HD camera for the sports and outdoor photography crowd, has bought up Cineform. Like I say, this is news to me as of this week but not exactly news. GoPro makes a casing that allows use of two Hero HD cameras to capture 3D, in a sense. As you'll have two cameras, you'll get two separate video files and separate audio that is blended in software. From what I gather, GoPro found the casing worked great but then they had no good way to finish out the 3D software side of it. It seems that GoPro decided Cineform was a ripe choice for acquisition.
This might have a really nice benefit to those of us with underpowered CPU's in our rigs and AVCHD cameras. Instead of spending $130 on Cineform Neoscene to transcode the AVCHD files to a CPU-friendly Cineform intermediate codec, it looks like we can use the free Cineform Studio software to do the job.
I've been kicking around on the 'net this week to see if this is actually plausible. Here and there people mention doing it, but not often in connection with PPro CS5.
So - is anyone here on the forum using the free Cineform Studio to transcode their AVCHD files to the Cineform codec, as they might have with Neoscene? Are you getting the same benefits: improved 422 colorspace, lighter CPU load, etc?
I have a Canon T2i DSLR and an AMD Phenom II 955 CPU rig. Any help I can get for this non-Intel processor would be sweet.
http://gopro.com/3d-cineform-studio-software-download/
http://gopro.com/3d-hero-system-how-it-works/Personally I'm not sold on it, cs5.5 handles raw h.264 really well in my opinion and I am the type of person that is against re-encoding a file more then you have to. Not to mention the cinaform file that get's spit out is huge so you have to cut and export a million times and it takes forever. If you have the time have fun with that, presonally I would rather get a more powerful computer before I started recompressing files just to make them work in cs5 or elements just becuase my computer blows. Even with CS3 I would just change the raw h.264 extension to .mov and deal with it so yea. Maybe if they expanded it into an editor that actually had a timeline then I could see people really starting to use it, until then I only use it for some color correction and updating my hero2 since I am forced to have cinaform to get firmware updates?
And I even have the same processor as J.elliot, a quad phenom 955 not over clocked or anything with 8gigs of memory and raw gopro video plays fine in CS5.5. Converting codec from a canon t2i camera might be the only thing it is really useful for although I would imagine getting the right codec for premiere would probably be the right solution instead of re-encoding. I searched and the t2i uses .mov and it's hard for me to imagine premier not accepting .mov files when it now supports h.264? I guess in cs4 you just had to rename the .mov to .mp4 so why do all the extra work with cineform and why does someone get a correct answer for agreeing with you? -
Content Workflow Issue using Cineform/PPro/AE
Hello, I have a potential workflow issue that I need some advice on. I'm currently editing a project in Premiere Pro CS3 using the Cineform intermediate codec (the video was shot in HDV--Canon HV30--imported using AspectHD). Everything is working fine.
However, I'd like to export some of the video of this project off to a portable hard drive to physically hand over to someone who will be importing it into After Effects CS3 (on a completely different hardware system) to spice things up for me--i.e. they are going to make a flashy intro/title for this project.
Lastly, I would like to re-import her finished video back into Premiere. She does not have the Cineform codec so exporting it as a cineform.avi file is out (I would think--or am I incorrect here?). My question is mainly--what is the best file format to hand over to my AE person AND what is the best file format for my AE person to give back to me to re-import into Premiere and keep it all in HD/HDV 16:9?
I have no idea if this is a really easy thing, or really challenging. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
BillHi Bill
well the best person to answer that question is the lady who is doing the afterv fx work for you. only she knows what her system can handle. I would recommend first and foremost uncompressed avi if she is on windows or uncompressed .mov if she is on a mac. otherwise if she cannot handle uncompressed because the file is too big you could give her a quicktime animation. i think the file is a little smaller than uncompressed but i could be wrong. but qt animation is still a big file. you could also render out the video as an image sequence I recommend a TIFF sequence suing LZW compression to keep the file sizes down. give her the image sequence she can add the fx and then she can render out the final product as an image sequence again which you can match up with the audio track on your pc. she can also give you an uncompressed file which you can then render out to cineform.

See if this driver works. If it doesn't, you will need to install a 64 bit operating system if you want to run windows 7.
I know this driver works for the Celeron N processors, but I don't know if it will work with the Pentium N processors.
Download, unzip and run the setup.exe file.

I have read a number of forum treads and I'm at my wits end. I want to capture in HD edit it in real time and export to DVD, BlueRay and Flash. I have spent hours on support and updated every driver and configuration setting that I know. PLEASE will someone tell me what do I need to do to get this to work?
Is it the DELL? Do I go to a Mac? (Ironic that most adobe tutorials are on Macs) Do I need a different solution? I'm going crazy! Maybe it's me and I'm capturing and creating sequences all wrong. Please provide a workflow that is working for you. Let me know if you need more specifics. Thank you in advance!2. I did a search for HDVSplit and came up with this site. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm Is this correct? Is there a released version?

PREVIEW screen showing up in RGB instead of full image
So, I sent a music video into color and for some reason the image in the preview no longer shows. only this http://twitpic.com/3lp6i8/full
I have used color about 10 times on this computer and this has never happened... can anyone help! tryn to meet a deadline!!!What format are you sending to color? What codec?

So this is a little complicated, but stick with me.
I am editing some footage in FCP. The footage consists of a girl lit under a blue light (simulating moonlight). The footage is properly color balanced, and it has a hint of blue to reflect the natural lighting.
I just color corrected it in my friend's editing suite (in order to use his HD TV as the output monitor).
Color correcting consisted primarily of crushing the blacks. We did a couple other things, but mainly that was it.
Everything looked great on his TV. We exported the files back to FCP on his computer. I then copied the color corrected quicktime files to use on my computer.
This is where things get weird.
On my computer, the color correction looks horrible. The actor looks purple! (like a character from Avatar). I opened up the files on another Mac. Same thing. The actor looks purple.
Stay with me, things get weirder. I opened up the same exact quicktime files on a PC. Everything looks great. No purple people.
I burned a DVD and played it on a TV. It looks great. I played it on a PC. It looks great. I played it on a Mac. The actor looks purple.
One final thing. Back in FCP, I took a screenshot of my computer image. I opened the screenshot on my Mac. The actor looks purple. I opened the same exact screenshot on my PC. The actor looks normal.
I really have no idea what is going on. Everything is fine on a TV and a PC, but it looks horrible on a Mac. And since the output medium could be any of these three (and the footage will most likely be viewed on other Macs), it is unacceptable for the footage to look the way it does on a Mac.
If anyone has any idea what is going on, please help.
Some information that might be useful.
FCP: version 6.0.6
Color: version 1.0.4
Footage: DV anamorphic
Raw footage codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, Integer (Little Endian)
Color corrected footage codec: DV/DVCPRO - NTSCWell, that would be great if you were making a music video for a "one-eyed, one-horned, purple people eater...", because I could never figure out if the eater was purple or if it only ever ate purple people... so now we'll find out.
Sounds like a ColorSync/ color management issue, and it could also be a driver YCbCr issue between Mac and Windows systems. As I understand things, you were happy at one point with the output of COLOR to some kind of "TV". I would find it remarkably odd that you would get these differences if you had been using a true Video I/O card and monitoring an SDI signal to a broadcast monitor and or waveform/vector monitor (which would be the only calibrated method for accurate color placement).
If you were somehow short-cutting the output using a DVI-bridge... then all of that color processing falls to internal Quicktime ColorSync and color management processes which may or may not be appropriate to the media... and can fall anywhere and is for the most part uncontrollable. This would be made even worse if you're attempting to do this "by eye" with no scope confirmation.
So somehow along this process, you were happy with the values on a Mac system, if you were processing the media under Apple COLOR, but it would appear that there was another process intervening in the displayed values. There aren't that many ways out of COLOR, and typically the complaint is with contrast being compromised with the 1.8/2.2 gamma incompatibility. But for a hue to be wrong, but then be reinterpreted more pleasingly under a different internal processing strategy implies that the files are being decoded and displayed in different ways. The only place that I can see that happening is in ColorSync.
Are you using any kind of third party "calibration" application? Or was your friend juicing the "TV"?

Okay, so I've seen the list on Adobe's site giving 'supported' video cards.
But I'm looking for performance upgrade:
-Windows XP SP2
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4ghz
-4gb DDR2 800 RAM
-2 TB 7200RPM HDDs (no raid)
-Cineform software codec for HDV
and...
-GeForce 7900GTX 512mb SLI video card.
I want my after effects to scream, right now, it's too slow for my tastes. At work, the macs seem to blaze through it. What can I do to really gain speed?
Thanks[email protected] wrote:

Indeed, I nearly peed myself when I first ran AE under the
multiprocessor settings on a Mac Pro. I could actually see the particles
move during a preview!!! My renders used a clock instead of a calendar! -
premiere pro cc 8.2.0 (65) build "audio dropout Detected at {timecode} in "Adobe Player"
This is new to since upgrading from CS6 to CC.
The audio pitch plays slightly at a slower pitch during timeline playback and the play head jumps back a few frames constantly at the same time while the video on the playback window skips backwards during playback constantly making it very painful to work with. I've tried to find a solution on the forum and google without any luck event found that problem to be common for many Premiere pro user. I only have one layer of video on my timeline at the moment and this is constant with all my projects since I've upgraded to Premiere Pro CC last November and no solution as come forth yet. Should I stay or should I GO? subscription is due for renewal soon? I've sent a request for help last week and still no reply?
Some help would be very much appreciated

I've used Premiere Pro as a playback device for video files for festivals etc for about 4 years. Unique amongst software (?) players PP can easily adapt to the multiple resolutions, codecs and, especially, frame rates we now encounter via Sequence Settings.
But in all that time I've had issues with mediocre playback with dropped frames, loss of audio sync and stuttering commonly seen. I have recently upgraded to PP 8.1 and Mac OSX 10.9.5 and have installed SSDs on the Thunderbolt bus so I had hoped things would be better but infact they are worse. I've seen lots of threads here and on Creative Cow about this but apart from the obvious setup issues nothing seems to have solved most of these peoples problems. So can PP play out smoothly on a rendered (or not?) timeline? If Quicktime, Avid and Resolve can play the movie properly why can't Premiere Pro?
I do note that my GPU (AMD Radeon 6770M) is no longer listed as supported but and ATI Radeon 6770M is. Is this the issue?I too have problems with audio on CS6.05, I wanted to route my audio thru my digi003 interface, but no avail., tried it on my Presonus light pipe, nada. Exporting from Avid to use in FCP
I have a personal project that I edited on an Avid, but want to export the sequences as Quicktime files to use as source material to finish on FCP 5.0, then author a DVD on iDVD.
It's for personal use, so it doesn't have to be flawless, but I want it to look as good as possible.
With so many variables, does anyone have a combo that seems to work well? I've tried a bunch, including:
-- RGB vs 601 color space
-- DV codec vs Sorenson Video 3
-- Odd-field vs Even-field Dominance
Nothing I've tried yet is cutting it, but I might not have the right combo of settings yet.
I've heard great things about Automatic Duck, but I'm not looking to lay out more $$$ for a personal project.
Any thoughts? Thanks!Export to QT from Avid using the same codec that the source material originally was... i.e., DV or HDV etc... The "Animation" codec is likely the least lossy, but it creates huge files, and it's not the friendliest codec out there...
But FWIW, the very best thing to do is export an XML file from the Avid or simply a batch list importing the file into FCP, then recapture it as it's native format in FCP... reason is, that Avid compressed the video to capture it, then you're recompressing it to export it to QT with the intention of recompressing it yet again in iDVD which is a bit too much compression being done..

Premiere Pro CC 8.2 Crashes only with multicamera sequences
After reading all complaints about Crashing, I have to say that I'm very pleased with This version performance, The blue icons Look great.
The software crashes when Multicamera sequences are set to render, and choosing H264 Blu-ray or Quick Time Gopro, in others like Blu-ray MPG2 there is not problem
However I prefer the two codecs with trouble. Also FOUND A WORK AROUND, Is creating the Multicamera sequence, erasing it and using the resulting see in Time line sequence,
and then making the cuts manually, That way it does not crashI too have problems with audio on CS6.05, I wanted to route my audio thru my digi003 interface, but no avail., tried it on my Presonus light pipe, nada.
