Color Code Midi Notes on Piano Roll?

Can you color code midi notes in Logic Pro's piano roll/key editor? (I.e., can you make all C's red, C#'s blue, etc.?)
I'm tempted to jump from Cubase to Logic, but I need this feature.

Why do you ask?
I've learned to 'read' my color coding in Cubase -- just like I read ordinary notation (red, yellow, green = C Major, for example). This way I don't need to open a score editor or Sibelius when I work.
Anyway, can't be done in Logic as far as I can see; too bad.

I'm using Logic X on mac mini. When I select midi notes in piano roll with the pointer, they are at a lower volume than when in playback? I use Logic X on mac mini with Apogee Duet.

Thanks for your help Erik. I found the answer you posted about 30 minutes after posting my question. To me it doesn't answer my question 100%. The reason is that I can't expect to believe that every time someone records midi they have to go through all these extra steps to merge it (and it is not easy to do because they are hidden behind one another) in fact my problem was so unique that other logic users didn't understand why I am having this trouble. SO that brings me to my conclusion, that I have some setting that is keeping this from being a seamless operation and transforming it into a bunch of hoop jumps. Thoughts? Could it have to do with record settings of "merge"? I saw a few different settings there but none make sense to me.

Gluing 2 MIDI notes in piano roll view...is this not possible any more?

I am experiencing some very unusual behavior in version 8 - such as no longer being able to use the "glue" tool in Matrix edit mode (now called piano roll) to glue two MIDI notes of the same pitch together into one note.
Has anyone been able to get this to work?
I have to say, on a broader level, this program does not feel like it used to. Up until ver. 7, the program just seemed to do what I expected it to do...there always seemed to be many ways to accomplish something. It seemed like I never would need a manual because whatever I tried to do in the most logical way always seemed to work. The app feels more rigid now. I guess I just need to re-learn this software.

I have no idea. But I've seen the "try it once try it twice " thing happen since Logic 4.

Color code logic not feasible in Pocket Browser

Hi Team,
We had a requirement in which we need to color the rows of SAP SRS application's ItemOverView table based on SalesOrder in a particular Purchase Order. My ex-colleague, did a solution with CellVariant that ran excellently well with Desktop applications.
Client never tested this application in latest Mobile devices with the Pocket Browser and compatible OS.
Now, when they tested it. First, I came to know that the standard functionality of SAP SRS MDE like GoFunctionKey is not working.
Then, my onsite lead installed the Proper OS and Compatible Browser Pocket Browser and all the standard functionalities are working fine in SAP SRS MDE application.
SAP had clearly mentioned to me that Cellvariant logic will not work with the Mobile Device and the Pocket Browser and also; I implemented the color code logic in the desktop application with cell design but the color code did not work with Cell Design and SAP also verified it.
Now, please tell me how to differentiate the rows based on PO Number and the SalesOrder. They want it to be marked differently for one range and different for another range.

Not sure if you want to apply the blue/teal color to the name of the executive or the whole first paragraph, but you could try the following for just the name color change.
Add this style rule:
span.name {color: #258dbe; font-weight:bold;}
and then for the html:

As for divs and classes... the important thing to remember is that you can use an ID (#nameofdiv) once per page, but a class can be used as many times as you like per page.

Scissor tool to divide into several portion midi event in piano roll not affect

it seems holding down option in scissor tool mode is not working to divide a midi event in several portions in piano roll.
If i press alt the scissor turn in a scissor plus + but not affect.
Can you confirm ?

Why can't i see my midi in the piano roll of logic

I can create a track in a midi region, yet when I select the midi region the data does not appear in the piano roll! It did uintil I deleted a few tracks and now only 1 midi region appears and I cannot select another. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

The Fax modem printer is formed when you choose Fax PDF... from the PDF button of the Print... dialog box. In other words, do it once, even if you do not complete the fax, and it will be there.

Displaying multiple midi regions in piano roll

I have overdubbed some midi tracks and would like to view and edit them in one window of the piano roll.
The manual says "Ensure that View > Show Selected Regions Only is switched off."
Well for the life of me, I cannot find any option in either view menu (arrange window or piano roll) for "Show Selected Regions Only."
Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this will help or not, but if you select all the MIDI you have, and then open piano scroll view, all the MIDI will be there. The drag is it is a litle hard identifying one from the other.
I have two Ultrabeat tracks and selected both tracks, then opened Piano Scroll and both were there.
Not sure if that helps or not bro but it is what I have done to address the problem

Color Code is not working, please help

I am using the color code 080808 from adobe photoshop as my background for my template. When i put the JPG file into dreamweaver and try to set the page properties in dreamweaver (background) to 080808 it is putting me at pure black. please help me.080808 is not a pure black its a shade of it. I need a color code that matches 080808 correctly. thanks

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what you are doing, but I ran into something like this myself. I was creating GIFs in Photoshop -- type on a background color. I then created DW pages. I used the same color code for the background color in PS and again for the background color in DW, but when I inserted the images in the page, they did not match. It turned out that when I created a new file in PS, I was creating it in my default color space, Adobe RGB. I assumed that when Save For Web converted the file to sRGB, the colors would convert perfectly. What I found is that I should have been creating my PS files by starting with a new file in sRGB color space. Once I did that, the background color of my images identically matched the background color of my DW page.

Paste notes in Piano Roll changes Region size

Hi,
When I copy/paste a note in the piano roll, using cmd+C, cmd+V, it also changes the Region size. Which is not convenient at all.
When I do it with alt+mouse, it works perfectly fine. But I work mainly with keyboard commands.
Also, sometimes it even creates a new region on its own.
I am on LogicPro X 10.0.1, OS X 10.8.4, iMac 2.5 Ghz, 16 Gb RAM.
I saw similar questions already, but no answer yet.

You shouldn't have an issue...doing what you are doing.. and I cannot recreate it here..
But an alternative would be to simply copy the Region itself in the Arrange window....
Hold Down the Option key and drag region using mouse or trackpad....

Background color code is not working. Please help

But the background color is not showing.

How can I write the next midi event in Piano Roll or other tools of Logic Pro X?:
        - Slide
        - Hammer on
        - Pull of, etc.
Please, my question is for use just the computer, not external tools (keyboards).

One method is to use the event list....

Select all notes in *Piano Roll Editor,* select *Velocity tool,* then *option-shift drag* any note.
or:
Select all notes in *Event Editor,* option-shift drag any one value in the velocity value column.

Scrubbing in piano roll

I've looked everywhere and I'm surprised no one has reported this. So, it's a good chance I'm doing something wrong. When I want to scrub a midi track in piano roll, I click pause and place my pointer on the playhead and it just takes off wildly. The only way to settle it down is to move the playhead slightly to the left. It appears to be a bug. Any insight?

You have to actually click on the note with your mouse for it to sound.
Also, turn on the "MIDI out" button, upper left of the piano roll pane (looks like a MIDI connector).

I'm trying to find out the easiest way to apply FX via automation to single notes that are played into Piano Roll i.e. How would I add an effect to a singe note at the end of a melody for example?

You can automate an fx send (done in the arrangement, not the piano roll) Or you can divide the part onto 2 tracks, one with the fx and one without.

Problem with piano roll view

This might have been fixed in the update that's just installing, but when I double click on a note in piano roll, instead of all the notes from all the regions showing, nothing happens. I've looked for 'show selected regions only' and that option isn't even in the 'view' menu. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Switching from 7 to 8 is a bit of a headache, and no mistake.

In 8 if you click the note on the keyboard on the left of the Piano Roll Editor it will select all those particular notes in the region. If you double click on the note it opens the Event Edit page on the Arrange page left side.
