Color coding messages in Mail (Yosemite) does not work.

I recently installed Yosemite, and I am trying to color code messages the way I have always done using Mail. Apple instructions for Mail (Yosemite) say this: "To color-code messages manually, select the messages in the message list, choose Format > Show Colors, then select a color. Mail changes the background color of the selected messages in the list." When I do this, I get no action. Is there a fix or work-around?

Same problem, same attempts to fix this and without success, but i found solution.
This worked for me: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.appsandbox UnrestrictSpotlightContainerScope -bool true
In my case: this file '/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.appsandbox.plist' was lost.

That's it, restart Thunderbird. You need to press 'Get Mail' everytime you want to sync with the email server, in order for you to make sure messages in the application is in sync with the email server.
The following should be emphasized to realize the sync with the server. You will not see your server message disappear upon the initial Get Mail download (new messages downloaded). After you process your Inbox in Thunderbird by deleting/moving a new message, then do another Get Mail which will delete the new messages previously downloaded on the server (put in sync).
Note: If you have older messages in your Thunderbird Inbox, they will not be deleted from Server. Delete them manually from server. From then on, any new messages you download, then process (delete/move), and then do the sync by doing Get Mail again WILL be deleted.

Have you tried with/without custom email notification (SMTP) settings?
Have you checked if the defaut or custom SMTP port has been forwarded to your px12?
Have you checked if your ISP is blocking SMTP ports for your connection?

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

OS X Yosemite Mail Drop does not work...

Good morning everyone!
Yosemite is on my Mac and my iCloud is activated, in Mail preferences I've also activated the Mail Drop if the attachment is too big...
But when I drag files such as videos, zip, whatever, Mail Drop does not activate
Let me know if you know how to solve it or if it happens to you.

I had the same issue trying to send a 1.27GB file to a colleague.
appears to be working (still sending but should have errored by now)
here is what i did
I went to Mail->Preferences
click on your iCloud account then lick the Advanced tab.
make sure "Send Large Attachments with MailDrop" is checked if it already is uncheck it and save the changes by closing the preferences. go back in a re-check the setting "Send Large Attachments with MailDrop" save changes and close then re-open mail.
This does seem to be working as mail is still coming in and I am not getting any errors like I did previously.
I will know more once this is sent and I will let you know if it fails otherwise assume its fixed

Every time the anouncement of 10 year Thunderbird appears; when i read one mail: Thunderbird "does not work anymore"

My thunderbirdbox contains 2 mailboxes; they appear together on the screen the same time.
I have this "construction" for several years without problems.
Now, with the 10year celebration of Tunderbird, when i open Thunderbird , every time there is the announcement + questioning if i can volunteer ( I whish I could....). The message covers a part of my second box....
When i want to read one of my mails, thunderbird stocks and above in the screen the message appears Thunderbird does not work anymore. There is a menu what i want to do and i choose : close the program. Afterwards i open Thunderbird again and i can do everything i want to do.... Strange it not it?

I've had the Mail app misbehave from time to time. Not so much lately though. But when Mail misbehaved I quit the mail app like I describe here. After that I reset my iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. The reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot. Finally try the Mail app again.

New Lightroom 4 mail feature does not work with Hotmail

Hi,
I have tested the new mail feature today. Unfortunatelly, it does not work well with my hotmail account.
The mail is send by lightroom and received in my hotmail mailbox, but the photo is not visible. The tekst in the messages is readable, but instead of the downloaded photoI only see a red cross.
Anyone an idea what the reason is ?

I do not see any error message and the received mail contains a correct text message, only the picture is not visible in the mail. I tried to send a Photo with the email preset on small and normal but without success.

I have tried to send a photo to the hotmail email adress of a friend and it works, text and photo are visible. Conclusion is that the reason for not showing the photo is not a Lightroom 4 problem. The reason should be something on my own computer, any suggestions are welcome.

Import mail function does not work for Outlook Express

working on a windows 8.1 laptop, trying to import emails from a Outlook Express directory that was moved to the new PC. Latest Thunderbird is running and the import starts and then very quickly finishes without importing anything.

Thunderbird import does not work on my XP machine either, I already tried it. Do you mean that outlook Express has to be running at the time of import?
I did migrate the mail folder into Windows live email, so I have access to the email but only as a kludgy 2 email solution.
Thunderbird does not recognize Live Mail, so that was not helpful.
I think the import broke in some previous release and has not been tested lately.

Junk mail just does not work as it should

I've had this for ages and just put up with it.
I have my jumk mail settings set for
Enable: the following types of messages are exempt from junk mail filtering: sender of message is in my address book (and in previouos recipients).
I assume that this means that anyone sending a message who is in my address book will not then appear as junk. This does not happen and despite repeated attempts to assign each one as not being junk it never learns as I thnk it is supposed to. A very few of my incoming messages of people who are in my address book do not appear as junk but I can't see a pattern.
Over time I have tried all kinds of ways to set the various settings but to no avail and now I really think that I should try and sort it as it is low grade annoying. I would appreciate any help anoyne could give.

It looks like iCal hasn't updated when you updated your operating system if it's still writing to a .mac address like you suspected. The most recent version is 4.0.1. If you need to update your actual application you can try copying from another computer with snow leopard installed (I've tested this), or reinstalling Snow Leopard. (not a fun option for such a small issue I know)

Yosemite does not work with Kodak 5500 device driver

Upgrading to Yosemite disabled my printing to my Kodak 5500 AIO device. Attempting to print initiated the device, but no pages would print and an error would appear on the printer display. Restoring to OS X 10.9.5 solved the problem. I'm glad I didn't pay anything for Yosemite. It does not live up to the reputation that I have experienced with Apple products.

Your problem is due to the fact that Kodak has not updated its printing software for Yosemite.
Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"). Perhaps it would have the same effect with some other kinds of printers that aren't supported in Yosemite. I have no information about that, one way or the other.
I have not tested the hack myself and I don't know all the possible effects. As far as I know it will not break the compatibility of printing software that is already compatible with Yosemite. It may degrade the security of the web administration interface of CUPS. That interface is not enabled by default, and will not be enabled by the procedure described here. Even if it were enabled, I know of no way it could be exploited, with or without the modification. Nevertheless, if you have enabled the web administration interface, you should disable it if you decide to follow these instructions. If you don't know what the web administration interface is, you haven't enabled it.
If you don't like the results of the procedure, reset the printing system.

Auto focus in Safari Yosemite does not work on new tab.

Creating a new tab in Safari does not auto focus the address bar. I need to Cmd-L to activate the address bar. This is annoying because I usually create a new tab to enter a search. Is this a bug or working as intended?

OK! I've found the error by myself. The XML file I am trying to update is not schema valid. Infact I've registered the schema with this call:

Since the update my imap mail account does not work

Well, it still owrks on my imac but not on iphone or ipad. Settings are exactly the same on all three. I deleted the mail account on the ipad and ipone and re-set them up but still doesnt work. All I get is the spinner and mail hangs forever eventually it says that the mail server is not responding and to verify that Ive entred the correct account info in the mail settings. I have! Several times....

You don't input the information in manually for iCloud mail. It is automatically set up for you when you sign into iCloud via System Preferences and choose the Mail checkbox. Sign out of iCloud or deselect Mail in iCloud preferences. Open Mail's preferences and choose accounts tab. If iCloud account still exists in the list, delete it. Sign back into iCloud or check the box for mail. The account will be auto created for you.

When adding a PDF file to a New Message in Mail it does not show up as an icon link, the entire document appears. How can you attach a PDF without the entire document displaying itself?

Yes there is an option to Remove from server emails that are deleted and then emptied out of the trash folder. At least there are in most email programs so I would think Mac Mail offers this. But after you delete them and empty the trash in the mail program you have to again Check Your Email so that the server knows that email was deleted.
