Color Correct Master Multiclip

An AE has already made multi-cam clips for me. I want to color correct one of the source clips. Can I do this within the multi-cam clip?
Or can I color correct the one master clip and replace it in the existing multi-cam clip? Or do I have to remake the multi-cam clip from scratch after I do the Color correction?
Can I do either one of these and have the color correct automatically update in the sequence I have already cut using the existing multi-cam clip?

Not sure the official way to do this, but if you create a copy of the clip you want to correct, correct and save it and rename it to match the original clips name and folder path (I'd save the original file someplace else) fcp will automatically connect to this clip.

Only if you do the cc'ing prior to editing the footage into the timeline.
If the footage is already cut into the timeline, you could simply 'copy' the color correction then use 'paste attributes/filters' to the clips in the timeline.
Alternatively, you could set the color correction, drag it's icon from the viewer, into the browser then drag that to your clips in the timeline. Or, simply drag the icon (found at top left of color correction tab in the viewer...looks like two sheets of paper with a hand over them) directly from the viewer, onto the clips in the timeline.

How to color correct a multiclip

i'm going to edit a multiclip ( 2 angles )
since one angle need a costant color correction and the other angle a different one, which is the best and fastest way to proceed?

apply any constant grade to the 2 clips BEFORE you make them into a multiclp. you can either correct them by dragging the color corrector onto them whilst they are in the viewer and correcting there, or by editing them into a sequence first, applying the correction, and then dragging the corrected clip back from the sequence into the bin. create the multiclip form these already corrected clips ... only then will the applied grade be carried automatically through to each clip instance in the edit
if you have already edited and now want to apply global corrections after the fact, then you need to correct one representative clip from one of the angles, then use the Find command to find (and select) all other occurrences of that angle in your completed sequence, and then drag that same correction onto the selected clips ... repeat for each angle

Color correcting in multiclip

just finsihed an mc with 6 angles. 1000's of edits. can i color correct one angle and have it effect that angle's edits throughout the whole timeline? i would hate to have to go to every edit and copy attributes. thx in advance!

Importing Color Corrected Master Back Into System for Trailer, DVDs, etc.

Thanks to all of you who have been of great help to me as I've been working with Technicolor on the Mastering of a feature. I've never really had a feature leave my system before, or at least one that I stayed in control of, so this has all been very new and educational.
Okay, question (or, rather, a confirmation) for final steps - they are sending me the following next week, for me to keep or for import back into Premiere for trailer cutting, still pulling, festival DVD making, etc. I just want to make sure this list is sufficient.

Files on a Hard Drive
10-Bit Uncompressed Quicktime of Completed Film
Compressed 422 ProRes Quicktime of Completed Film
I guess my main question is - will the 422 suffice for a high quality trailer and DVDs? They also offered to make an even-more-compressed H264, but if I can inport the ProRes Quicktime, that doesn't seem necessary, does it?

Yes. All else being equal.

Multicam and Color Correcting

Is there a way that I can set the color correction for one camera, and it applies to all of the cuts. When I drag the filter onto the clip it asks to apply it to the source angle, or to the multiclip. I have tried both, and it will only apply to that one clip and not all of the other clips that are from that camera. Will I have to apply to each individual clip, or is there and easier way?

color correction workflow for Multiclip projects is no different than for any other FCP project
that is, correction is applied on a clip by clip basis
you can only apply a universal correction to a clip (or angle) by applying the correction to the source before you start editing with it ... thereafter, every instance of that clip will have the filter applied
of course, you can apply the color correction filter to an angle of your multiclip and every instance of that angle that you cut in will have the filter applied
(i did notice before, that even though the clip may be color corrected, the multiclip display only shows the unfiltered clip, and the filtered clip only displays correctly once it is cut into the timeline)
sure, it might be nice if there was an option somewhere to force a filter applied to a master clip (or angle) to be applied to every other instance of that clip ... but there isn't!

Color Correction split screen comparison

I'm looking for a way to Color Correct a Multiclip made up of 3 angles from an interview.
I would like to do a split screen so I can match colors of one angle to the next.
FCP had a thing where you could split screen and select part of the screen as last edit, next edit, in point etc.
I only see in Premiere to do a comparison split screen of the CC on and off.

Simply I would line up whichever was the Reference Clip and and CC / grade the other to match.
Check with scopes later but primary work is done to "eyeball" and in the case of the 1st Clip..Use the Reference Monitor with a scope.

Color correction in FC Pro when working with multiclips

Is there someway to preserve the color correction I apply in the sequence timeline to a clip, and to preserve the motion attributes I apply (i.e. it's in the sequence, then I double click to show it in the clip viewer and make adjustments) when I then include that clip (through the bin) in a multiclip?
Basically I want to have to avoid repeating angle-specific corrections for each edit as I go along in a multiclip.

I tried applying corrections to each before making the multiclip and it worked this time. I think what fooled me is that the 4-in-1 window reflects the original clips. But canvas playback shows the changes in the selected angle.

Color Correcting an Already-Edited Multiclip

So, I'm not that bright. I edited a 2 hour multiclip only to realize at the end that I wanted to do some color correcting on one of the angles to match the other two. Is there a way for me to color correct an entire angle all at once without having to re-edit the multiclip or copy and paste the filter onto each clip in the multiclip? Thanks.

Oh yeah ! paste attributes etc etc, it's brilliant, digital editing isn't it!
I was not quite certain you wanted the same cc for the whole 2 hour clip!
Haven't you got a lot of coninuity light problems ?
Pity I was hoping to find out if the reconnection worked. It should do if you had time code and the other meta data is the same, but maybe the cc instructions would interfere!

Color Correcting Multiclip

I have alread compiled my multiclip and I am wanting to color correct one camera angle to match the other two.
I've read you are supposed to do this before you edit the multi clip but alas I didn't do that.
So is there an easy way to correct this one angle? If I correct the first instance of that clip in the timeline it just does it to that first clip and not all of the remaining clips.
Any thoughts?

Multiclip Color Correction

So I have a 3 angle multiclip - I place it in the time line, play it and edit it. Now I want to color correct. The manual says I can drag a color correcter filter from the effects browser onto the timeline clip where I am offered the option of 'apply to source angle' which I do as I am told this will allow me to alter the settings for the whole of that angle each time it appears in the timeline edit. However, this is not what happens, it only effects the one piece I dragged the filter onto. Every subsequent time that angle appears it does not have the filter on it. Additionally the manual says to see filters rendered to multiclip angles choose "Render Filters in Multiclip Display from the View pop up menu" - this option is not in the View pop up menu.....
any ideas?

This probably isn't the norm. But, I've been color correcting and when I have numerous pieces in the same scene that can use the same color correction I just click on filters and copy all. This copies all the filters and then just go down the line and copy into each sequence. For me it goes very fast. If you're just using Color Correction, in the upper left corner are two arrows facing each direction, if you click the first in either direction it copies that CC to the next clip. If you hit the second it goes two clips over.

Color Correction - Multiclip

FCP 5.1.2 - Mac Pro - I have been working with a MultiClip that I created from 4 clips. I applied the Color Corrector 3 Way filter to a section of the Multiclip on the timeline but then realized that I did not apply it to the entire timeline.
Is there a way to remove video filters that have been applied? What about after I have rendered the Video in the timeline?
At this point, I selected the entire multiclip timeline and applied color correction - the section where I had already applied color correction now received a double dose so it's looking blue.

Save your color correction by dragging an instance of
it to your browser.
Select all in the sequence, that has the color
correction(s) and control click on one to select
"Remove Attributes". Then select filters from the
window that opens. This removes all instances of
filters from the selected clips. Then just drag that
saved CC filter from the Browser to the selected
clips in the Timeline window.
Don't worry about the render files, they'll trash
themselves... then re render.

Do I color correct angles before making multiclip?

Hi guys,
I have two individual angles I'm going to sync and make a multiclip out of. One of my clips is horribly bright and requires some serious fixing in Color.
Do I color correct or add filters to the individual angles BEFORE making the two angles into one multiclip? Or is there some way to color correct the entire angle after making it into a multiclip?
--also, any reason why my canvas when changing angles in a multiclip would show it in 4:3 while the actual video is 16:9 in both the viewer and timeline?

You could color correct before if you like, if your angle is rock solid and the changes will be consistent throughout. I don't do it that way but have been tempted.
If you do it after finishing the multiclip edit then you will need to copy one color corrected clip and then paste attributes to the other appropriate clips.
As a rule I color correct when my edit is finished.

Color correcting multi edit clips

I need some help. I would like to do the color correcting on 3 clips that will be used in a multi edit. The way I have been color correcting the footage is to just drag the whole clip on the timeline and do the color correcting before I do any editing and cutting of the clip. Is there a way I can do the same thing with multi cam clips? Once they are on the timeline, the corrections are made on the timeline, but the original clips don't change?

I think Jerry is suggesting you do the following:
-Duplicate your clip in the browser (option-d)
-Dbl-click the new clip (will load it in viewer)
-Apply Color Correction (this will affect the clip as it resides in your browser, leaving the original master clip untouched)
-lather/rinse/repeat for all clips to be used in multiclip
-create your multi-clip and edit away
Can I also do this with clips on the timeline
There are procedures for this within a multiclip environment, but I'm not remembering them well enough and no longer have access to a multiclip system for review and assistance. Check your manual..I remember this part frankly being a little convoluted, so a search of this forum or the other previously posted links should help.

Sequence color correction

I am color correcting different clips in my sequence in order to have all the footage look the same. Is there some kind of graph or something else that can show me what's going with colors in my entire sequence so I can do this more precise? Do I have to use Color for that?

I'm not aware of any feature that does what you're looking for.
You could use the search feature to locate all clips with the same name...in the sequence, set in/out at head/tails, hit command-f, type in file name and change "Where" to 'From In to Out', then click on 'Find All'.
Depending on how your project is set up, you could also control-click on a clip in the browser and select 'Label' and give it a color lable. This would assist in locating certain shots, that would benefit from a global color correction.
I occasionally use both procedures when cutting 1-hour multiclips, by setting up a 'master' color correction for say...Cam1 CU or Cam4 OTS XWS..., apply it, copy it, then paste to all instances of the clip. However, I find that each shot ends up requiring some level of tweaking due to slight changes in color and luminance shifts/intensities, caused by differences in framing and movements in the frame.
